Nations?

Hey new to the site and the terminology "nation" in role plays. can someone help me understand what a nation is and explain what makes them different from other role plays?

Nations, or more accurately Nation Building RPs, are RPs that focus not on the player as a single character (although they may have characters in the RP), but as a distinct nation. Nation Builders will typically create their nation around a set of military, economic and social/political/religious values and the focus of the RP is about their interactions with neighbouring nations. If the Nation Building RP requires, individual characters might include rulers (kings, emperors/shoguns, presidents, etc), military leaders (generals, daimyos), religious leaders (cardinals, high priests) and possibly economic leaders (corporate CEOs, Merchant Guild elders, etc). Either as their nations, or as this host of characters, the participants of a Nation Building RP interact with other players and their characters, either creating treaties, making war, trading or religiously dominating their neighbours.

All in all, Nation Builders tend to be more rules-deep RPs simply because they are such grand scale games. Some may even take place over months or years per player post, dependent on the pace of the RP.
