National Donut Day

National Donut Day is on the first Friday of June each year, succeeding the Donut Day event created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the men and women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.[1]

In light of this amazing holiday that takes place tomorrow (from my perspective, in eastern USA), let us discuss our favorite donuts!


I personally am an absolute sucker for Boston Cream donuts, or anything pumpkin flavored. How about you guys? Has anyone here even ever made their own donuts?

I freaking love eclairs, custard filled preferably. Next best would be strawberry jelly filled, followed closely by anything glazed.

I like the croissant donuts as well as the cake batter with the clear glaze. The latter is far easier to make than the prior.

My favorites are glazed or cinnamon & brown sugar. I've never made donuts (doughnuts?) m'self, but I'll have to try someday

I blame the fact that I used to make "donuts" while in the scouts when camping. I didn't like the type of sugar they used and ended up eating it as fried bread... I can never go back to the old ways. I also like donut holes.

Surprisingly, most of them are pretty easy. You just need a sheet to bake them in like a cake or oil to fry the dough with.


Of course, the croissant flaky goodness is not easy because pastry dough is a struggle and far too time consuming when all I want to do is turn myself into a chipmunk and shovel food into my mouth. Yum.
