Naruto: The Shogun of Shadows
War has swept across the shinobi world once more! War is a familiar face to the shinobi, however this is no routine border skirmish or covert raid. The careful balance of power between the fivre great nations has been utterly upended by a full scale invasion perpetrated by a mysterious invading army. The invaders arrived by sea, so the land of water was the first to feel the brunt of their efforts. All throughout the islands, key ports were assaulted by strange metal ships that disgorged vast quantities of heavily armored foot soldiers and unidentified shinobi. Taken by surprise and stretched thin by the wide scale nature of the invasion, Kirigakure was unable to mount an effective defense and the hidden village fell in short order.
Kirigakure's sudden fall greatly alarmed the other villages and they were even more alarmed when they received envoys from the figure behind this mysterious invasion. Identifying himself only as "The Shogun" This mysterious figure proclaimed himself the rightful ruler of the shinobi world and demanded the immediate surrender of the remaining great powers.
He did not receive it.
Instead the villages put aside their old grudges and paranoia to join forces against these upstart outsiders. An allied force from all five nations, including survivors from Kirigakure, converged in the east of the Land of Fire to meet a massive, multi-pronged assault from the invaders. Unfortunately for what would have otherwise been a heartwarming tale of unity in the face of adversity the battle was a disaster for the allied forces. Paranoia and mutual distrust prevented the allied forces from coordinating effectively and the shogun's forces were able to pin down isolated units and overwhelm them with numbers. It was only thanks to the sacrifices of a handful of elite jonin from all five villages that the battle was prevented from turning into a complete disaster. By fighting a suicidal rear action, these heroes allowed the bulk of the allied shinobi forces to withdraw to pre-planned rendezvous points to regroup.
You are one of these shinobi, a genin or a chunin, you probably thought your next few years were going to be full of routine missions escorting caravans or hunting bandits or maybe you were training up in preperation for the next chunin exams. Instead you've just born witness to the opening salvos of what will undoubtedly be the most devestating war of the shinobi world. You might already have seen friends, family or teachers die before your very eyes. But you are still alive and as long as you're willing to fight, this war isn't over just yet. In fact, the war is just beginning...
Hello! Welcome to Naruto: Shadow of Shogun. This is a Naruto AU rp featuring an all new cast of characters and an entirely new story. The goal for this RP is to depict full scale warfare against a powerful invading force, with the hidden villages of the shinobi world forced to band together in a desperate struggle to defend their homes. As a player, you'll create an original genin or chunin character and steer them through the perils of war as using a stat system to represent their growth and hard earned experience. Over the course of our story, your characters will gradually gain more agency over the tactical and strategic approach to the war and by the end of it it may very well be your decisions that determine the outcome of the war as a whole. Rules and Expectations
- The RPN site rules are in effect: This is pretty obvious and everyone should be familiar with them
- The GM and any potential Co-Gm's are in charge: That would just be me at present, but it's possible I'll take on more staff in response to the needs of the RP.
- Remain respectful of your fellow RPers: Just be cool to each other, even if you have disagreements or find your personalities don't quite mesh do your best to remain civil. If you can't resolve any disputes to your mutual satisfaction I or another GM will step in.
- Let your voice be Heard: If you're not sure about something or just have a great idea for the RP let us know! We can't do anything about it if it stays in your head. We will eventually have a discord server open to all players for easy communication. You can also post anything like that in the OOC and free to PM me if you would rather speak privately, I'll do my best to stay on top of such correspondence.
- No Godmodding: Broadly speaking godmodding refers to controlling someone else's characters by writing their reactions or confirming attacks on them in your own post. This isn't very fun to deal with for the other person and not conducive to good roleplaying. Don't ever do it to another player without their permission and be careful about doing it to NPC's.
- Do your best in terms post length and quality: We are aiming for detailed with this RP, multiple paragraph responses with good spelling and grammar are ideal. We can be flexible about this to some extent, scenarios and situations just aren't conducive to long posts and sometimes people are tired or busy. The bare minimum is a paragraph or so that's been given a good once over for errors. Detailed responses give your RP partners more to work with and make you more fun to RP alongside so it's to everyone's benefit if we all do our best. If I feel like your responses lacking then I'll reach out and we can have a friendly chat about how to extend and improve your writing.
- Post Regularly or Stay in contact when you cant: I'm pretty flexible with this sort of thing, mostly cause I often struggle to stay consistent myself, but hwhat I'd like to aim for is to get a post a week from most people: If you don't post when a scene is waiting on you after a week you will be skipped over, after two you will be removed from the RP. Now I'm not going to ever boot anyone from the RP because you have exams, or work is crazy, or you just feel like shit and can't write for a while, so if you reach out and let me know you can't post for a while then you are golden, but you do have to reach out. Ghosts get the boot.
- Read all the provided material: The mechanics and worldbuilding information will be posted in separate threads and linked here via the index. If you're on mobile the links to these will be under a drop down menu above the thread itself that says "linked contents". There shouldn't be too much to wade through so if you can give everything a quick once over that would be great
