Chapter One: Coming of Age
The Land of Harmony: Chowaku City: The Gunshugakure Academy

ISA1nB6.png

"Look at them, so bright eyed and full of potential, they have no idea tha- ah! hot! hot!"

Ryohei Sakurai, the Chowakage, or leader of the village hidden among crowds, had just burnt his mouth on his tea. Up until that moment he had been gazing down indulgently upon the genin formed up into neat rows on the training ground below from his perch within the staff lounge.

The Gunshugakure academy was a towering, modern building, made bright white concrete with four full floors of classrooms so Ryohei had quite a vantage point over the crowd of genin below. There certainly were a lot of them, part of the reason he had pushed for a much larger intake of new students then in previous years was simply to fill out this damnably large building and justify its cost to the daimyo. There were other, much more important reasons as well of course but that had been a consideration.

"...Why are they lined up like that?" Asked the Chowakage thoughtfully, after carefully setting down his mug.

"They're waiting for you lord Chowakage," said a mousey woman standing nearby with a long suffering expression. "It's their graduation and you're expected to give a speech,"

"Eh? OH! right! Right!" Ryohei stood up abruptly, seizing up his mug again and tried to drain it quickly, which he instantly regretted. "HOT! AH!"

His spluttering provoked a short coughing fit and then Ryohei got himself under control and attempted to look dignified. "Well then. Best not keep the children waiting then hmm?" he said, striding over to the fourth floor window he had been looking down through, opening it and stepping out into the empty air. The Chowakage fell like a rock, his ceremonial kage robes fluttering behind him like a broken parachute, one hand clasping his hat to his chest to prevent it flying away from him. Ryohei landed, with a noticeable thud, in front of the assembled students.

"Students of the academy!" Ryohei began, brushing himself off a little and giving the children a warm smile. "Or perhaps I should say 'former' students of the academy. Let me be the first to congratulate you all. By passing your final tests here and graduating you've taken your first steps out of childhood and into adulthood, out of obscurity and into glory! Out of innocence and into shouldering the burdens of this village. Although it might seem far away now, in time this land and its people will come to look to you all for guidance and protection. I believe you all possess the potential to rise to that challenge. Although fate and other forces may place obstacles in your path, take comfort in the fact that overcoming them will only make you stronger, better suited to the path ahead."

The kage's smile twisted slightly, becoming somewhat wry and ironic. "Keep those words in mind as you face the very first of those challenges today. Although you are all no longer academy students, you are not quiiiite genin yet either. There is one final hurdle in front of you before you can reach that milestone," Ryohei cleared his throat and produced, from the voluminous sleeves of his robes, a scroll that he unfurled and peered, also producing a pair of thick, black rimmed reading glasses that he put on.

"I'm going to divide you all into groups of three. Each group will journey together to a certain location, to meet a jonin instructor who will administer a final test to see if you are truly worthy of becoming genin. Ahem.

Naomi Hanataro
Naomi panted, palms against her knees and brown braids hanging over her shoulder as the Chowakage divided up the teams. Of all the days for her to be late, it had to be on the day graduation ceremony. Somehow, one way or another, she'd managed to squeeze into a line. Not the right line--not the line she'd practiced in--seeing as how she didn't really recognize the people she was standing next to, but a line nonetheless. Fortunately for her, the Chowakage seemed to have delayed his arrival as well.

Brushing her braid aside, Naomi peered up at the man she'd only ever seen on TV. He was as handsome as he appeared on the screen, bearing a dignified, gentlemanly countenance as he addressed the graduating class. Or, perhaps, such an image was all in Naomi's rose-colored head. Regardless, Naomi straightened and checked that her new umbrella was in place, trying not to embarrass herself (and her teachers) any further. Maybe she was lucky and the leader of their village hadn't noticed.

The gift from her adoptive parents was bigger and heavier than she was used to, but Naomi found it beautiful nonetheless. More importantly, it was hers. Just like all the others of the Hanatora family, she finally had a ninja umbrella of her own. She could finally call herself a member of the Hanatora clan. The thought made Naomi giddy with happiness...at least until she heard the word 'examiner' escape the Chowakage's lips. Naomi blinked, eyes widening. Admittedly, she hadn't been giving the Chokage's speech as much attention as she should've--about as much attention as she gave class lectures. Glancing around her, she took note of the faces of her fellow students. Some seemed tense and nervous. Others confident. Vaguely recalling her name being mentioned with a couple of others, Naomi leaned towards the person to her right.

"W-What's going on? Aren't we ninja already? Why are we having an e-exam?"

She could only hope it wasn't a written exam. If it were, she was almost certain to fail.

Shinichi Kabuso
Listening to the Chowakage speak Shinichi hopped excitedly from foot to foot ready to get moving at a moment's notice, seeing one of his fellow graduates arriving late he thought that it would only be right to exact a small penalty for her tardiness. "Hey Shizuka?" With a smirk he tucked his chin in a little and whispered to the creature nestled in his scarf. "See Naomi back there? Since she was too tied up with something else to get here on time how about you take some of the string with you and she'll be bound to get here on time after that lesson." Peeping in understanding the otter slipped down his back and grabbed a line of simple string from his pouch before dropping to the ground.

While his partner scuttled quietly down the line Shinichi tuned back into the speech, he was curious about what the final test he was talking about was but first things first was the team assignment. "Aw YEAH!" He shouted as his name came up alongside his partner in pranking Akio. Speaking of pranks Shizuka had reached his target and carefully wound the string around her ankles, it probably wouldn't make her fall over unless she was especially clumsy but it would at least make her stumble.

Scampering back and returning to his usual place draped around Shinichi's shoulders he gave a short grunt to indicate his success. "Nice going pal, but did you hear? Akio is on our team!" Raising himself up he squeaked in excitement. "I know right? Come on let's go find our team!" Looking around he waved an arm while yelling at the top of his lungs without a care for who else heard him. "HELLOOO! AKIO AND KAORU OVER HERE!" Jumping on his head Shizuka stood up on his hind legs to help search.

Ryoken Sakurai

Ryoken was, at first, abit worried when his dad didn't show up immedately. Was he sick? Hurt? Did that burrito he had last night not sit right? It wasn't sitting right in Ryoken's stomach either after he saw his father put it down and forgot about it. Though Ryoken couldn't miss this ceremony for the world! He was so very proud that he gave the camera man not one, but three great smiles! He was just so excited he could barely stand still!!

And he wasn't, in truth he was fidgeting and shuffling about even as he stood in the line, and when his father came down from above he looked like a kid who just saw their favorite superhero movie came on. It took all of his flimsy will power not to shout "HI DAD!" when he showed up, he was so cool! Even that slight coffee stain on his cloak didn't detract from his coolness!!

Awww man!

His speech was cool to!!!

Wait, what did he say though? Ryoken cocked his head slightly, his eyes looking up and a finger tapping his cheek as he tried to remember what his dad was talking about... But... He did mention his name with two others! Well three others, two of his fellow classmates and Tatsuya Minazuki. he wondered where he heard that name before.... Ryoken shrugged and began to look for the two others mentioned, hmmm........

There was Haru! He liked Haru! He remembered long ago when Haru gave him the crust off his Sandwich! (A sign of friendship forever in the eyes of Ryoken) Meant he was a good guy! And trustworthy of course! The fact he often gave him food definitly meant he was the best type of person!

But, wait, didn't he also say Mibu? Oh yea Mibu... Hmm... He often tried to find Mibu, but he could never get the drop on her, but she always snuck up on him though! Espeacially when he was trying hard to find her first! shes a hiding champion! It's like shes always under his nose, and at the same time not!

"HARRRUUUUUUUU!!!!!!" the young man howled, breathing in another breath "MIIIIBUUUU! Where are you guys!?" he added his voice to the shouting math, in truth, he only shouted because another person shouted, it meant he could right? Why weren't others shouting yet? it was so much fun!!

Oh, were his other friends around? Hmmm, wonder where they all went... Or should he go say Hi to dad? Wait no, those curls, the hair color it was Emerie!! He loved when he saw her, she usually gave him something tasty! Plus her hair reminds him of ice cream and her mask was cool! Though he wondered if it made eating weird? Doesn't matter, he began waveing madly. "HI EM! Em! Hey! Emerie! Emerie! Over here! Look! I'm here!"

Asami Kurayami

Perhaps thirty minutes of sleep wasn't enough, but who could blame her? be it either anxiety or excitement today was a big day and certainly not something one could just accept and proceed as if it were another day at the academy. No, for Asami this was huge, everything she trained for was leading to this...all those hours of studying and pushing herself further, each small action led to this and her mother's excitement certainly didn't make it any easier on the poor Genin-to-be. Her eyes told the story of great anticipation and disbelief but also held that look of exhaustion that was constantly painted on the poor insomniac, her body jittery as currents of electricity passed through her fingertips onto the neighboring hand; however it was more from nerves than boredom this time around, she even found herself being shocked on the doorknob as she left the house this morning.

Asami often felt the sudden urge to look herself over in the large windows of the first floor on the towering academy building, the sun helping provide little reflection as she gazed over her gear: A dark hoodie with her clans' symbol engraved on the left arm and guarded with light padding beneath it , tan multi-pocket shorts, over mesh leggings and her worn black sandals grinding their heels into the ground beneath her. Still, the one thing on her mind was that headband that she'd finally be able to call hers after all these years studying it had finally paid off because here she was among the rest of her classmates that had the drive and ambition to succeed, each of them with their own goals to achieve while hers wasn't even in arms reach yet.

A yawn slipped past Asami's lips as she scanned the area yet again, this time the chattering of students being interrupted by a heavy thud, sounding from the very front rows and emerging from the small cloud of dust was the villages Chowakage, an older and decent looking fellow who seemed to share the excitement of their graduation as he gave his heartwarming speech, which woke Asami from her dazed state; red eyes now scanning over each individual as they were named off for these 'teams' everyone was being placed in, almost shocked to hear her name apart of the second group. One of the boys Tomoki Fuji, she knew for his record of getting into fights and not exactly being the sharpest kunai in the pouch while the other Arata Kawakami was also known for being rather antisocial, but unlike her, he seemed to have a nasty bark to go along with it. Compared to the other two she was rather dull and lacking in any sort of reputation other than her test scores, written test scores to be exact, but regardless she braced herself for possibly the most volatile interaction in her years as a genin.

Asami began weaving her way through the crowd, eyes darting from side to side as she searched for both boys, her hand up almost instinctively as she called out to the best of her ability over the chattering voices and the loud bellowing of another genin looking for someone named Haru and Mibu? that wasn't her concern though. "uhh...Arata? Tomoki?" she had finally moved into a clearing between all the gathering groups as she tugged nervously on her sleeves as the sparks began dancing along her knuckles, "Okay, let's try again..." She inhaled and steadied her breathing as she spoke a bit louder than before. "Arata, Tomoki?!" a few people around her almost seemed shocked at the combination and a few whispered, but even she couldn't make it out over the chattering.

Her eyes continued to scan the grounds for the two, as she shuffled in her spot and took small steps out to see if they got mixed in with the crowd and maybe they couldn't find her, she was pretty small and easy to lose in certain cases but then again she was one of the few crazy enough to wear black outside while the sun was nice and high so how hard could she be to spot?

Emerie Sairento

Finally, she had done it. The academy had been conquered. Her clan couldn’t stop her now. She was a genin now, and her journey as the first Sairento ninja was about to begin. Emerie was excited, but contained herself well. A pure Sairento such as herself couldn’t be caught acting such a way in front of anyone.

Emerie had woken up early this morning, just as she did every morning. There was no real need to, as she woke up with her hair perfect and ready for the public. What she woke up early to do was pick out an outfit, and do her daily target practice. Throwing a kunai and aiming her launchers had to be muscle memory, something she could do in her sleep! Today was no exception.

Emerie’s outfit today was a tight black shirt beneath a snow white vest with several pockets. The black shirt’s sleeves widened as they approached her hands, helping to cover the wrist launchers she always wore. Emerie’s black cargo shorts possesed several pockets as well. And on Emerie’s feet, were her favorite pait of white boots. They felt as snug to her feet as ever.

Finally finished recalling her own outfit, Emerie watched in slight shock as the Chowakage landed before the genin with a thud. He gave his speech, one that made Emerie smile, before he announced the teams.

Naomi. Emerie liked her. She was foolish, sure, but she was nice and was always happy to let Emerie tru out one of her mother’s inventions on her. Perhaps one day Emerie would be testing her own inventions on Naomi. It was an exciting thought. Shinjiro, however, was not a name Emerie was too familiar with. Whoever they were, Emerie was certain they would make a good team, and complete their new teacher’s test without too much difficulty.

Emerie was about to call out to Naomi, and call for Shinjiro, but her attention was grabbed by the barking of another one of her favorite people. Ryoken! Her way to fame!

“Hello Ryoken!” Emerie replied waving back. She had come prepared in case she had to confront him once again. Slowly, Emerie reached into her vest, before suddenly pulling out a peanut butter sandwhich in a paper wrapping. “I have brought you a snack!”

This was perfect for Emerie, because not only was she publically showing off her friendship for the kage’s son, she was showing off right in front of the kage himself! This wasn’t just her own fame being boosted here, it was her whole clan’s! She tossed the sandwich to Ryoken, before approaching Naomi.

“Let us find Shinjiro and get going, I would like to get t’is final little test finished quickly,” Emerie said confidently. Officially becoming a genin was top priority right now.

Tomoki Fuji
Tomoki was rather quiet as he stood forbearingly in line for the Chowakage to give his speech. He didn't even understand why they had to stand in formation anyways. Finally he decided to say something, "Arrrgh! What's taking so long?!" He inquired in an irritated tone. Suddenly, Tomoki spotted the Chowakage descending from the staff lounge. "About time." Tomoki thought.

Once he heard the Chowakage say something about a challenge he striked his open palm with his fist as he smiled in an irritatingly smug way. He was pumped up now. He was prepared to complete whatever challenged was planned for them and proceed his journey to becoming a shinobi. Tomoki went on to hear about his two group members that he would be with in this challenge. Asami Kuriyami and Arata Kawakami. "Asami Kuriyami...? Arata Kawakami...?" He said indistinctly in an attempt to try and remember who they were. It then dawned on him who they were. Asami Kuriyami, he always thought of her as a quiet girl who was a jerk. And then Arata Kawakami, he just flat out thought was extremely unpleasant. In the midst of his thinking, he began faintly hearing his name being called in the booming crowd and lifted his head up to see who was calling his name. Knowing it was a female voice, he guessed it was Asami. So he walked towards the direction in which his name came from and began shouting. "Asami!! Asami!!!" Tomoki screamed.

As Tomoki continued walking in the direction from where he heard his name, he spotted a female wearing all dark clothing and he immediately knew it was Asami. "Hey Asami! There you are!" He yelled cheerfully now that he found her.

~Mibu~

The sound of a pen flying across pages of paper got more and more intense the Chowakage's speech continued, reaching a fever pitch as he started naming teams:

Kohaku Fujioka
Shizuo Murate
- Redacted -

Team - Kazou Yamamoto

Asami Kurayami
Tomoki Fuji
Arata Kawakami

Team - Miyako Fujihara

Naomi Hanataro
Shinjiro Kaede
Emerie Sairento

Team - Makoto Takenaka

Akio Hiraku
Shinichi Kabuso
Kaoru Issho

Team - Sakura Yamauchi

Haru Mori
Mibu
Ryoken Sakurai

Team - Tatsuya Minazuki

Amber eyes glanced up, from the pen. All very useful notes. Today, there was so much to learn today. Like, why the excitement? Did anyone here seriously think they were going to fail the academy graduation? Where was the confidence in their skill?
If they were this excited about teams, would they be that scared about the test to stay on a team?

And the scrambling and calling out names, why bother? They were initially lined up in perfect lines, breaking formation only made things slightly more complicated. But, that too could be remedied. The crowd was rowdy.

Shinichi said:
"HELLOOO! AKIO AND KAORU OVER HERE!"
Ryoken said:
"HARRRUUUUUUUU!!!!!! MIIIIBUUUU! Where are you guys!?"

The hearing loss however? A little less easily remedied.

Well, one of those was appropriate to respond to... as soon as hearing was restored. Ryoken was talking to another person, outside the squad formation. Normally this would be worth watching, however, they were told they had to report to a sensei. Though... the kunoichi's eyes did wander for a moment, trying to ascertain the make of the sandwich, the type of bread used, and the ingredients inside. All would be telling about the person who made it. Were the ingredients put together with care, or sloppily? Were they the cheapest ingredients around? What of the quality of the bread? It would tell as much about the intentions as it would- no these thoughts were distracting. They had a mission to do right now. And a certain kunoichi was slightly upset about the current condition of Tinnitus in one's ear.

"Ryoken, it is unclear why you were shouting. We were organized. If you have notes on people positions, things like this are hardly a problem. We are on the clock, are we not? Our objective is Chosen Vale Community Clinic. And to find Haru. And to become Genin. Please do not shout his name again to find him, that is inefficient. We shall look. Tardiness is not a virtue of a strong ninja."

The amber eyes again quickly scanned the area for the third teammate, and a masked kunoichi would quickly be by him, trying to literally drag Ryoken by his collar as if he was on some sort of imaginary leash. As she went, she held her ear with her other hand, repeating the word 'meb' over and over under her breath.

When Haru was found, the kunoichi simply called.

"Haru, Ryoken, Mibu, the three names called. Let us hurry. It will be enjoyable to see you become official genin."

Arata Kawakami

Arata wasn't especially excited to be declared a genin. For him, it was only natural that he was going to pass, and there was no glee whatsoever involved in getting a basic recognition of skill by age 13. In fact, if he had to reflect on it, he would rather be ashamed about only receiving his Genin qualifications now, as there were no few Shinobi that got too much higher heights away younger than himself projecting a shadow on his heart, something that would constantly bother him if not for the fact that he had the excuse of being born after the war to justify his lateness - After all, how could they expect him to show off his greatness when there was no battlefield for him to shine on.

It was such a twisted point of view that caused the boy to feel rather sullen when the time to go to the ceremony finally came, inherently dissatisfied by the fact that he was going to lose even more of his precious time listening to the Village Leader's talk, as if that improved anything in his life. No need to say that this sullenness quickly became an actual resentment when the Village Leader actually decided to take his time start his speech, indulging in shenanigans that could only seem as ridiculous in the remarkably biased view of Arata as if exclusively to annoy the young man even more.

By the time the old man finally did his job and announced the teams, Arata was already half a steep out of the area, his lack of patience tempting him to directly leave to the area towards the Iron Blasters Health and Fitness gym to finally meet his sensei and start the training he longed for. In fact, he was only a step away from doing so when the feminine voice half yelling - for it was a remarkably soft attempt of a yell - his name stopped him. Tch. I can't believe I'm stuck with two incompetents. He grudgingly muttered under his breath while making his way towards the voice, paying little to no attention to the fact that he only knew some superficial stuff about his new teammates - Namely that the female one dressed weirdly and that the guy was loud - as he directly transferred his pent-up frustration towards the other genin.

Willing or not, the time that it took for Arata to reach Asami was still remarkable, as the Genin made his way through the crowd with a commendable ease as soon he decided to join up with his teammates, managing to arrive there merely a couple seconds after the kunoichi called for him a second time. "I'm here. No need to yell ag-..." He started just to be cut by Tomoki shouting back to the girl as if that made it any easier for him to get there - something that visibly displeased Arata. "Are you a stupid or what? Why would you drown the sound made by the person you're searching for in your own senselessly loud barks instead of just making your way here without wasting any extra energy?" He started as soon as the other boy made his way to the group, quite obviously extremely displeased by his loudness.

Shinjiro stood towards the back of his line, the young boy slightly taller then most kids his age. During his duration in the academy he had come to learn that it was rather troublesome to stand at the front of any sort of formation. Truthfully not many people enjoyed being unable to look over the person in front of them, the sight of another persons back was hardly something worthy of grasping their attention for anything longer then an iota of a second. These feelings heightened more so during such an important event were even the famed Chowakage would be making an appearance. Thus upon arriving to the growing group of 'genin to be', Shinjiro had quickly made his way towards the back of his line. It wasn't as if being at the back bothered him anyways, especially since he could still see what was going on.

It was a while yet before anything spectacular happened, Shinjiro passing the time by exchanging a few casual greetings with a few of his class mates that had arrived just after him; many of whom were accompanied by their parents who upon arrival to the ceremony had proceeded to make their way towards the other parents already present. As time ticked by the group of adults grew, villagers arriving to watch as the future defenders of their village made their first step into the real world of shinobi though their excitement and chatter was easily drowned out by the sounds of father's and mothers cheering on their children amidst the soft chorus of happy sobbing from several of the more emotional parents all of which had made for a rather interesting orchestra of noise. This cacophony of emotions from the adults evoking a more comical series of reactions from their own offspring. Some of them revelled in their parents excitement, matching it with their own high energy response, some shy'ed away from their overzealous parents; turning away in embarrassment as they unwittingly humiliated them in ront of their friends. The most amusing however was the reaction of the boy three lines to the left; the pool of tears he was presently creating as he flashed the widest grin towards his parents was a rather interesting response to the occasion.

Though despite the build up of noise, excitement and anticipation for what was to come; the sudden silence that befell the awaiting masses held far more impact on the heart. Almost instantaneously the hundreds of men, women and children fell silent as a wave of raw suspenseful energy gripped at their very cores. It was time. Almost each and every individual present stared upward in unison as the Chowakage appeared, the man dressed in typical Kage attire in mid descent as he leapt from the fourth floor; his billowing robe creating the only audible sound as it fluttered against the rushing air until there was a thud, quickly followed by an explosion of roaring and applause which itself died out as the Kage began his speech.

Cold sweat snaked its way down Shinjiro's face as he watched and listened in awe, it was truly happening, he was graduating from the academy and on the road to becoming a true ninja. Heart beating in anticipation, Shinjiro could not help but fidget slightly as he took in everything that was happening, the nerves and excitement overwhelming his attempts to remain completely composed. The sheer weight behind what the Chowakage spoke of was both terrifying and inspiring. It was the pure truth of what awaited these genin, the reality of what was to come and the confirmation of what was expected of them and to hear someone as renowned and powerful as the Chowakage speak of such expectations from them was more then enough to get the adrenaline pumping and boy was it pumping for Shinjiro. The only thing lacking right now was the sight of his Uncle in the crowd or the many friends he had travelled with the years prior to coming to Gunshugakure, to even see one of their faces in the sea of people would have made this moment perfect.

As the list of assigned teams were being read out, Shinjiro upon hearing his name being called had quickly begun to scout the group of students, his height coming to an advantage at this moment as he quickly made out the snow white hair of Emerie a few rows ahead and to the right. Whilst he hadn't spoken so much as a word to her during his time at the academy, it would be a lie to say that he did not know who she was. Considering her genetic traits, she did stick out like a sore thumb already, especially among a few of the boys in Shinjiro's class though Shinjiro himself never really participated in those conversations. Naomi too was a topic of conversation among the boys in his class though the subject matter for the most part always seemed to revolve around something she had done. It was no secret that she was ditzy and clumsy, both traits having caused 'all eyes' to be on her. Her eye patch as well was often times brought up, though every time one of the boys would speak about it, the 'story behind' how she got it was always different. Shinjiro himself never really took their foolish gossip for the truth anyway.

The Chowakage's speech coming to an end was quickly followed by a couple more cheers from the audience; the sound of whistling breaking through the bellows of over excited parents, though for the unfortunate girl standing directly in front of Shinjiro what stood out the most was the one father who had timed his cheer to perfection just as everything else had begun to quieten down. "Megumi Baby!, You managed to get a team!! Papa is sooo proud of you!!" his almost melodic cheer causing 'Megumi' to collapse to her knees in embarrassment, her face bright red and buried in her hands as she shook her head in humiliation. A bit of laughter soon followed after from a few of the students as well as adults in the vicinity. Shinjiro though smiling and stifling his own chuckle had walked infront of her and quickly knelt down beside Megumi, his left arm placed upon her right shoulder.

"Don't worry about it, your dad's just being a typical parent and after today nobody is going to even remember this moment" he offered reassuringly. "Stand up and be proud, we are all going to be official Ninja after this last test.. best not dwell on something this trivial and instead savor the moment. After all we only ever become official shinobi once in our life" he removed his hand and instead held it in front of her, offering to help her to her feet. "Come on.. I'm sure your new team mates are eager to meet you, lets not keep them waiting much longer". A few seconds passed followed by a few sniffles and Megumi was back on her feet, rubbing her tears away with her right sleeve just in time before her two team mates arrived. Bowing and saying her thanks, the team of three quickly scampered off to their designated location leaving Shinjiro to search for his own partners... alas, call it good fortune as it appeared that Emerie had already grouped up with Naomi, the pair of them standing a few yards away from where Shinjiro was.

"So it finally begins" muttered Shinjiro to himself, as he quickly dusted himself off and made his way to his team mates. It was best to look presentable on their first meeting.

"Shinjiro Kaede"
he held his hand out towards his two partners. "I'm looking forward to working with both of you"

Kohaku Fujioka
Bright humming emanated from one of the rows of graduates as they waited for the kage to make his appearance. Normally, Kohaku would loathe having to stand around and wait for so long. But for now, she was too giddy to care. “I’m a ninja~! I’m a ninja~!” She chirped while bouncing on the balls of her feet. One of the chuunin instructors heaved a sigh behind them. Getting the small girl to stay completely still for such an event was truly an exercise in futility.

She couldn’t wait to tell Hikaru when he got home. Her brother had been away on a mission for the past week, he’d be so surprised when he finally got back! “Maybe we’ll make manju to celebrate." She gave an excited squee, fighting the urge to spin. "Or maybe a cake!!”

Finally, the kage made his appearance. A dramatic entrance that demanded the young girl’s attention. “Look, Riku!” She pointed at the Chowakage before bouncing and waving excitedly. “He’s so cool!”

At least until he started a speech...

Kohaku quickly went back to humming and nearly squishing the corgi doll in her arms. It was only when her name was called that her focus returned. “Aawww, why do I have to get paired up with the grouch?” Kohaku whined, her bottom lip sticking out in a pout. “Why not someone cooler? Like Emerie? Or Shinichi? Even Ryoken would be better and he tries to steal my lunch!” Alas, in the chaos that erupted, her protests went unheard. “Not fair, Riku....” She pouted, the doll only squeaking in response. Normally, she would’ve been quick to join in the ensuing chaos. Instead, the small kunoichi was too caught up in her own moping to jump in.

Haru Mori
Haru shifted his weight uneasily, sapphire eyes scanning the crowd of graduates. They’d all done it. One way or another they’d all been deemed worthy of graduating the academy. It was…

Terrifying, honestly.

Sure, he maaay have been able to graduate the year before. And he maaaay have let panic get the better of him and his chakra. Judging by the proctor’s face it was quite the spectacular failure too. He couldn’t even look the man in the eye all year after that.

Something shifted next to him, a person suddenly appearing. Haru jumped, turning to see Naomi hunched over attempting to catch her breath. He reached over and tentatively patted her back. She may have been late and in the wrong row, but at least she made it? Haru quietly offered her a small bottle of water from his pouch.

A gasp escaped the crowd and Haru’s gaze snapped up towards the plummeting kage. “Uwaaahhh!” Why did he jump from that high? Wasn’t he going to get hurt!? Haru could only watch as the Chowakage landed with a loud thud, kicking up a cloud of dust. With wide eyes, he listened to the speech, completely rapt by the man's words. This was the most powerful shinobi in their entire village! The man everyone listened to.

"I'm going to divide you all into groups of three. Each group will journey together to a certain location, to meet a jonin instructor who will administer a final test to see if you are truly worthy of becoming genin."

An icy dread washed over Haru, breaking the spell of fascination. Another test? Then what was the point of the previous exam!? The boy's breathing picked up, it was another chance at failure, another opportunity to make an embarrassment of himself and his clan. He could see it now... Haru: the first Mori to have Storm Release in several generations, fails becoming a genin not once, but twice. His stomach twisted in a sickening knot.

"W-What's going on? Aren't we ninja already? Why are we having an e-exam?"

Naomi's voice drew him back to reality for a moment, Haru barely able to look over at her. "We-we're not ninja yet... I don't-" He swallowed, his whole mouth feeling dry suddenly. "I don't know why they told us we were..."

Thanks to his initial panic, the boy had missed a chunk of the team announcements. Perhaps it was only through dumb luck that he hadn't missed his own team. Or maybe it was another cruel trick of fate... Mibu, the name was familiar to him but that was about it. Haru could vaguely recall an appearance but honestly couldn't recall ever really seeing her while at the academy. But Ryoken?

No...

No, no, no...

A shaky hand raked through his messy blond hair. Why did I have to be teamed up with the Chowakage's son!? That meant even more eyes were going to be on him. Even more people were going to be judging his every move. To say nothing of the cl-

"Haru, Ryoken, Mibu, the three names called. Let us hurry. It will be enjoyable to see you become official genin."

"WAH!!!" Haru let out a fairly... undignified shriek as both of his new teammates materialized beside him. "Uh, uh, uh-" He stared at them with eyes rivalling saucers, "R-right! Let's go! Hahahaha ohgodswhydidyouhavetosneakuponme?"

Naomi Hanataro
Naomi tilted her head to the side as the kind boy who had offered her water responded to her inquiry. For whatever reason, he seemed to have a hard time looking her in the eye. It confused her since she didn’t consider herself to be a particularly scary person. However, Naomi simply chalked that to Haru being Haru. Haru was afraid of everything, or so she recalled. It had taken her moment to recognize him.

His clarifying only raised more questions and she opened her mouth to ask more, but was halted as other students began to disperse and call for their teammates. Shutting her mouth, Naomi decided to observe her surroundings instead. She might not be the smartest tool in the shed, but she wasn’t stupid. Even if she hadn’t paid too much attention to the speech, she could still put enough together to realize that whatever exam the teachers had planned for them it was meant to be done in a team.

Fortunately for Naomi, her teammates were able to find her with ease. The first was Emerie. Pretty, smart, and confident, the white-haired Sairento was Naomi’s opposite in every way. It was perhaps for that reason that they had become good friends. Naomi admired Emerie confidence and elegance. It probably helped that Naomi never found a reason to say ‘no’ when Emerie needed a test subject for her mother’s inventions either. The thought that Emerie would be on her team filled Naomi with relief.

“Okay, that’s sounds good,” Naomi replied happily. “But…uh…do you have any idea what this test is about? What exactly are we supposed to do?”

Perhaps she could cram last minute. Her experiences with tests that weren’t practicals weren’t good. She didn't want to let the team down with her incompetence. Other more confident and more skillful ninja might be eager to get the exam over with as efficiently as possible. Speed was their thing. Not Naomi. She liked to be prepared. To do things at her own pace. Therefore, she wasn’t in any particular hurry to begin their test.

Not like anyone had specified a time-limit.

Shinjiro Kaede approached not long after. It seemed they wouldn’t have to search for him after all. Naomi moved forward to take his offered hand. That was her mistake. “Nice to—woah!”

Unaware of the string tied around her ankles, Naomi stumbled. Arms flailing, the eye-patched girl tried to regain her balance, which only resulted in her falling backward instead of forward. She felt the back of her head hit…something…before she landed.

“Owww…” Rubbing the back of her head, it took Naomi a good couple seconds before she realized that her ‘ground’ was actually a person. Haru had broken her fall.

“Oh no!” Face flushing red, Naomi hurried off the boy....only to stumble once more. This time on the actual ground. Removing the object that caused her fall ought come first. Finding a kunai in her pouch, Naomi cut her ankles free of the string before going over to check on Haru’s condition. “I’m so sorry! Are you okay?”

Her teammates were there, Haru’s teammates were there, the Chowakage's son was there, and Naomi wanted nothing more than to sink into the ground and die. However, she had to make sure Haru was okay first.

Akio Hiraku

Mention: AllHailDago AllHailDago
The waiting bit was boring. Akio shifted his weight from one foot to another as he stood in line with his peers. He couldn't do anything sneaky when he was in clear view. Unlike Shinichi, he was clumsy and he knew it. Akio tickled the ceiling of his mouth with his tongue. It felt funny. He amused himself for several more minutes until Chowakage Ryohei jumped down to the ground. Finally!

Akio was among the older students at the academy. Not because he was stupid; he enrolled a bit late due to a personal problem. He didn't want to enroll. That was already over, though! The academy proved to be more fun than studying alone, and he came to know a lot of new friends. His mouth curled up into a grin as his mind started to wander, away from the speech and toward his memories of school.

"-Shinjiro Kaede and Emerie Sairento. You are to meet Makoto Takenaka at-"

...what is being listed?!

Akio snapped out of his daydreaming. He didn't miss his name, right? That would be embarassing. In front of the Chowakage, of all time!

Luckily enough, the listing of his team was a few groups after. Akio puffed out a sigh of relief. The expression of panic turned into a wide grin. His final test would be underground! His luck was exceptionally good today. It didn't take him long to find one of his group member. Shinichi's shout was too loud to ignore. He skipped over the field and tackled him into a hug.

"Got you!"

He exclaimed happily. Shinichi always know the best way to mess with adults. Now if he remembered correctly, Kaoru is the weakly kid. Where could he be?

"Do you see Kaoru around?"

Shizuo Murata
"Well maybe I'd like to be on a squad with someone more mature," Shizuo Murata said, from directly behind Kohaku, albeit several inches above the peak of her rather diminutive frame. "You ever think of that?"

Shizuo pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. This day was quickly turning into an ordeal. In the first place was it really necessary to put on this kind of production just because they had graduated? Half the damn apartment building had turned up just to watch him get a headband, there was the Toshinoris and old Mrs Umezaki...and of course Shizuo's Mum was there, waving like a maniac with Yuuka in tow. And in the end they weren't even genin yet! As if Yuuka should be out while the weather was still this chilly for something like this! Sometimes Shizuo's mother just didn't think of these things!

"SHIZU -CHAN! WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU SWEETY!" Shizuo's mother shouted, somehow easily making herself heard over the din of the crowd. She was a dark haired woman in her late thirties who tended to attract some attention regardless of whether she was shouting or not, but this was really beyond the pale. Shizuo felt his cheeks burn as they went bright red and he tugged his cap down over his face, maneuvering himself around Kohaku to block her view of his Mother.

"ANYWAY!" he said forcefully. "If we're supposed to be a team then there isn't much to do but wait until Kojiro turns up. Whatever they have cooked up for us I don't want to have to handle it with one less pair of hands,"

Ryoken

It took roughly three seconds for the sandwich to leave Emirie's hand for it to be in his mouth and half way to being eaten. He barely tasted it in truth, but he tasted the friendship within each bite with his heart. Oh how he loved it!

Wait when did Mibu get there? Yay Mibu he found you! "Hiiiggg Mifu!" He said with mouth full of sandwich and friendship, he wondered where she was, she was so very helpful when it came to finding things and reminding him if he forgot or did something odd. Then he found more friends! And Haru! Why did he look so afraid?!? Oh no! He fell! Whos butt is on him though?

Oh it was Naomi!!

He swallowed practically half the sandwich, which looked admirably painful. "Hi Naomi! Hi Haru! How are you two today?" The embarrassment of these people completely going over his head. It was like he simply didn't care, or even know what it mean, to be the kage's son.

Perhaps it was that bumbling personality that got passed down so well.

Ryoken watched the group as he awaited their words, or food, he silently hoped it was food.

Kaoru Issho

Kaoru stood half hunched over, rubbing the back of one hand with his opposite thumb. He was excited to be at the ceremony sure, but it felt like the crowd was staring at him. He could almost here their comments on him being too small or weak to be a shinobi. While his size was... problematic, and he was smaller than even the smallest girl in this graduating class, he could still fight!

For a spare moment his spine straightened with confidence. Confidence that dwindled as he waited for the Chowakage and looked around at the other graduates. He caught his own hand as he tried to instinctively reach for the book under one arm. Now was, rather unfortunately, not a time he could be caught reading. Not with his parents eyes on him. He had to show them his resolve. Show them he definitely belonged like he said.

As the Chowakage arrived and gave his speech Kaoru's eyes sparkled with wonder. He pushed his glasses up his nose as he wondered how well he might do a cool hero landing like that! The speech too! Kaoru... wasn't good at talking. He tended to use words people didn't know, and stuttered through every sentence he ever spoke. But he had to try so he could be as cool and strong a hero as the Chowakage some day!

As he listed off the team names Kaoru sunk further into himself. He expected the extra test, and was honestly excited for it. But his team.... the other two were people who'd pranked him frequently throughout the academy. Plus they didn't every really seem to try paying attention seriously. Why them?! He moved as the crowd dispersed and everyone began yelling for their teammates. Loudest amongst the din was Shinichi...unsurprisingly.

Kaoru made himself as small as possible as he weaved through the crowd towards them. Carefully managing to not bump into anyone, Kaoru made his way to Shinichi and Akio. He stood slightly behind and to the side of them as he tried clearing his throat to get their attention. Unfortunately the crowd was too loud to hear his attempts over. Finally he simply spoke up, though still not over loud. "I-I-I'm r-right h-here, guys."

Kojiro Zanki

Kojiro was beet red as he stood in line. He had no real problem with the lines and crowds and waiting. No that wasn't the at all. The issue was his family sending him image after image of how proud they were, and how he was gonna be the greatest Zanki ninja ever, and how fast he's grown up. His mom sent him mental picture after mental picture of him as a baby and progressing to now. He was *very glad* that Mental Snippet was not an openly seen communication.

His face cleared up slowly as his attention was turned away from his family by the arrival of the Chowakage. A soft, breathy laugh escaped Kojiro's mouth at the silly entrance. Kojiro likes the Chowakage. He was always nice and doing silly things that made people smile. Kojiro was happy their village leader was a good person. He smiled brightly as he listened to the speech and team announcements.

He was PUMPED for the test with their new sensei. He hoped he could show off the new wind jutsu he'd been working on! Shizuo and Kohaku....Shizuo and Kohaku.... The memory suddenly surfaced and he remembered the two. Shizuo was kinda serious but nice enough, and always had his hat. Kohaku was fun and energetic and Kojiro LOVED her little puppy puppet!

He made his way silently through the crowd, trying to spot his new team. He saw them together a short distance away and worked his way over to them. He was bumped into repeatedly, unable to say excuse me or the like. To avoid too serious of bumps he lightly touched people's shoulder as he passed behind them. When he finally managed to reach his team's side he let out an extended exhale and lightly touched their shoulders. He gave a wide, open mouthed grin to the both of them! This was gonna be great!

Shinichi Kabuso
Seeing Akio coming Shizuka braced for the impact but kept quiet and let the glomp come as a surprise. "Oraya?!" With a yelp Shinichi stumbled but quickly burst out in laughter at his friend's voice while Shizuka squeaked in greeting. "There you are! I haven't found Kaoru just yet." In truth he was too busy trying to discreetly watch Naomi and see how his little trick turned out to search effectively.

When she finally tried to move and took out Haru in the process he bit his and snorted as he tried to hold back his laughter, while he didn't often go after the nervous wreck of a boy things had turned out so much better than he expected that he couldn't help but find it a bit funny, besides he had the only other realistic suspect hanging off of him.

Looking around for his other teammate his gaze was drawn to the sound of proud parents calling out mortifying things to their kids and he spotted a cluster of his clan members watching him with broad smiles, feeling a twinge of nervousness he smiled back shakily at the thought of the upcoming test. In many ninja clans reaching genin rank was seen as a coming of age event and it was doubly important for Shinichi as the future head of the Kabuso clan, in theory he could take up the position as soon as he passed though in practice what elders remained would remain in charge until he was considered ready to lead.

He snapped out of his thoughts when Shizuka tugged on his ahoge and pointed at their missing teammate. "Oh hey! There you are, awesome!" Bringing his grin back full force he gave Kaoru a friendly backslap. "So...where's subterranean training ground 13?"

Squad Tatsuya

An ungodly shriek took out what was left of kunoichi's hearing, a slight buzz left in its place. It was the team of screaming apparently. But why? There was nothing to get too excited about yet. And nothing to be afraid of. Certainly nothing threatening their lives? Still, they were her teammates.

Hibiki said:
"Your teammates will be precious to you, you have to protect them with your lives. Be patient with them."

Well, if they were supposed to be precious...

Two hand were offered, to Haru, and to Naomi, though she only spoke to Haru.

"Please do not yell. You are supposed to be precious to me, though how is unclear. If you are precious, you will be protected.

Though, if that is the case, please don't yell, loud noises upset the shadows.

In any case, we have to be at Chosen Vale Community Clinic soon. It should not be difficult for our group to pass. You seem... more coordinated than others here. Your fear is perplexing, you graduated, did you not? Your back's covered if you will allow it, and Ryoken will be by your side. What's there to be afraid of? You will be caught if you fall, and shielded if you would be hurt. We are a team now, if you panic, we have cause to worry."

A sharp face then turned to Ryoken.

"And please, please, do not yell more. We can celebrate... after we get our headbands. Perhaps at a restraunt.

There is still a ringing around from both of you..."

Mibu started to walk towards the Chosen Vale Community Clinic, slapping her ears with her palm, humming to try and get back full hearing.

Emerie Sairento

Emerie watched silently as Naomi fell, taking Haru down with her. She frowned slightly, as she watched Naomi cut her ankles free. How had her ankles been tied? Having some joker going around messing with people at a time like this wasn’t acceptable in Emerie’s eyes. Nonetheless, it was still funny. “As much as I enjoy watching you all roll in the dirt, I would like for us to become genin sooner rather than later, yes?”

“I assume t’at this will be a test of our ninja skills, to make sure we did not make it t’is far by accident,” Emerie explained. She herself had no idea about the test, but didn’t see why everyone would go somewhere different for a written test.

Emerie was anxious to get going, and began slowly shuffling away. “I know where our destination is located, so follow me s’il vous plait?” Emerie turned, looking iver her shoulder to make sure her teammates were ready to go. Once they appeared to be readying thenselves to follow her, Emerie would take off at a relatively fast pace through the city streets towards their location.

Asami Kurayami

Asami sighed as she continued to shuffle around in her spot, not wanting to go too far just in case she missed them or if they were looking for her, but the cheers and applause from another raven-haired woman not too far off in the distance enticed her; however, the stern looking man who stood beside her was enough to keep Asami at bay as she waved shyly at the woman while avoiding her fathers gaze as she turned back into the crowds of genin gathered around her, a rather large group gathering around the kage's son while the remaining groups were either introducing themselves formally or heading to their designated areas to meet their sensei which wasn't a bad idea and the young genin normally would've followed their lead, that is if she knew were her team members were.

As she went to turn on her heels in order to continue her search, another voice shouting her name caused her to jump slightly as Tomoki, the louder male- well second loudest out here- approached her with a rather eager expression, while to the left of her another more slightly irritated voice called out briefly to silence her summons before turning harshly on the other male which proved the rumors of his attitude to be very true much to her dismay. Yup highly volatile just as she expected, maybe this was karma for her being antisocial, maybe it was all a cruel joke and she was in some sort of twisted genjutsu, regardless maybe if she refrained from saying anything too foolish or getting in his way he'd simply let her be. "Hey..uh, let's not start off on the wrong foot...it's a bit loud out here and hard to tell what your own volume is, no harm done right? Just a bit chaotic since everyone's a bit anxious." She stated as she looked between Arata and Tomoki before gesturing in the direction of the gym.

"Maybe we should get a move on, that way we don't keep Miyako sensei waiting any longer, and we can introduce ourselves since I imagine these teams are a long-term deal." She chuckled nervously before turning and walking off and away from the other crowds, sneaking a glance over at her family once more before looking down at her hands as she moved along. "I'm Asami Kurayami, but I suppose you already know that by now, I excelled at the test involving genjutsu and chakra control...I'm not really a taijutsu fan, although I heard some kid managed to knock himself out once so things could be worse...Uh, I like...foxes I guess and yeah..." She never really knew what to say during introductions even on the first day at the academy she rambled on about her favorite color until the instructor allowed her to take a seat, so hopefully one of her new teammates had a more attention-grabbing introduction.

Shinjiro stood there, unsure what to say as he watched Naomi fall backwards and land atop another student; the sheer sight of her bumbling backwards almost eliciting a laugh from the long haired boy though through sheer willpower alone he just about managed to stifle it at the last minute. It wouldn't have been the best of first impressions if he were to burst out laughing at his own team mates expense, more so if either of the two affected by her fall were actually seriously injured. Alas, it appeared that neither were physically hurt during her fall though It seemed the rumours were right after all; She was a klutz.. or so it appeared to be from first glance.

Noticing the string that Naomi had just severed from around her ankles it became clear that all was not as it seemed and that Naomi was more than likely the victim of some childish prank. There was no plausible reason for the string to be wrapped around her otherwise. Instinctively Shinjiro began to scan the group of students nearby, his eyes looking for anyone who may have reacted to Naomi's graceful plummet and it wasn't long before they fell upon one half of the renowned troublemaker duo; Shinichi Kabuso. Unlike his partner in crime Akio who was presently bear hugging the blond haired heir apparent to the Kabuso Clan, Shinichi was in a fit of giggles. Whilst unable to know for sure, Shinichi was most likely the culprit behind Naomi's accident. Shinjiro sighed and shook his head. Of all the days to pull a prank... especially in front of the Chowakage and his Son; the latter of whom had joined their growing group.

Despite having barely said a word to Naomi, Shinjiro could not help but feel a bit of sympathy for her; the sight of her falling onto another student surely could not have gone unnoticed by Ryoken and if Naomi were like any of the girls from his class who fawned after the 'famous' son of the Chowakage, then embarrassing yourself in front of your 'crush' was surely a mortifying experience. Once more, he sighed. Poor girl.... or so he assumed as it appeared Ryoken did not care much for her tumble or Haru's plight as he addressed both casually. Whilst he was thankful that Ryoken didn't point out the blunder, Shinjiro could not help but feel a twinge of annoyance towards his lack of compassion, was it because of his status as the Son of the Chowakage that he felt it unnecessary to offer a helping hand towards the fallen victims?.

Frowning his brows as he lingered on the thought, Shinjiro chose not to act upon it. Making a scene now wouldn't have been ideal for anybody.. this was a special occasion and not one that should be ruined with hostilities regardless of its severity.

"Here.. let me give you guys a...." Shinjiro was interrupted as a young girl appeared before them, her presence undetected by Shinjiro until she was literally right in front of him. Despite her sudden appearance her willingness to aid the fallen had helped to quell his annoyance from earlier.

"You alright?" inquired Shinjiro, walking up to Naomi. As he did so, he overheard Emerie speak her two cents regarding the final test. "I agree, that seems to be the most logical reasoning behind this final test... perhaps they want to see the potential or lack of potential in the team compositions.." he added as she finished before returning his attention to their other team mate. "We're a team now.. so rest assured you won't be taking this test alone.. knowing that fact, is there any reason to even be nervous? I'm sure the instructors considered our strengths and weaknesses when they decided on these teams.. so passing this final test should be real easy... you cover our weaknesses and we will cover any of yours?.. Deal?"

In his attempt to reassure Naomi, Shinjiro just about managed to catch Emerie shuffle away with his peripheral vision. Her eagerness to get this exam going not lost upon Shinjiro. "Well... shall we catch up then?" suggested Shinjiro as he himself turned to go after Emerie though not before bowing and wishing good luck to the other students nearby.

Tomoki Fuji

Tomoki somewhat struggled making his way through the large group of people gathered on the field before he made it to Asami because mostly everyone had broke the formation and just began scattering everywhere in an attempt to find their teammates. Multiple people bumped into Tomoki in which he responded with a, "Get out of my way!" Or "Watch where you're going!" When he reached Asami, he noticed his other partner, Arata, was already with her. When he heard Arata's comment he was speechless. He couldn't answer his question because he had never thought about it that way and didn't have an answer. "No I'm not stupid." Tomoki said aggressively. "Let's go. Don't wanna keep our sensei waiting. Plus, I wanna know more about this final challenge." He uttered and smiled in a conceited way after watching Asami start walking off.

Tomoki was pumped for this final test because he was determined to pass it. Tomoki was going to be a genin. Doesn't matter if there was a test or not. Nothing would stop him from achieving his goal of becoming the one of the strongest shinobi to ever live and encourage and inspire the kids who need it most. He also would not let anything stop him from proceeding further into his journey of becoming a shinobi. After catching up to Asami and following closely behind her he introduced himself as well, "I'm Tomoki! I'm good at Taijutsu and Ninjutsu. I moved here from Kemonogakure."

Kohaku Fujioka - Team Kazou
And there it was, complete with the usual grumpy tone. Kohaku didn't even need to look to know the sour expression donning Shizuo's face. But turn around she did, a little spin that put her face to face with her teammate. Well, face to collarbone, more precisely. The petite graduate still had quite a bit of growing to do, nearly all of her classmates had passed her up. Puffing her cheeks out in defiance, Kohaku stuck her tongue out at the grump scowling down at her.

Yep, real mature...

Something caught her attention then, a voice calling out to Shizuo. So, he had family here too then? Even if she tried to peer around her now embarrassed teammate, there was no way she was going to be able to find the source of the voice. How many other graduates had friends and family gathered around the field, watching and cheering them on? Her grip on Riku tightened, the doll letting out a small squeak. Why did you have to be on a stupid mission today?

By the time Kojiro reached them, her dour expression was replaced with a tight-lipped smile. Her voice took on a faint, brittle edge to it as she spoke, "Well, he's here." Kohaku quickly spun away, heading towards the park with her usual bouncing step. "Don't wanna keep sensei waiting!"

Haru Mori - Team Tatsuya

Haru hadn't been able to get a word out before Naomi collided with his back. His arms flailed wildly in a futile attempt to remain upright before the two went crashing to the ground. He scarcely noticed the apple or water bottle that tumbled from his pouch and rolled away. The blond's groan was muffled by the grass. He wasn't hurt by any means, but he'd still fallen right in front of the kage's son.... and that huge crowd... Just leave me here... how am I supposed to face them after that? Or sensei even...? Maybe he should've just forgotten about the whole thing and stayed home.

Finally, he accepted Mibu's hand and slowly stood, violet eyes unable to look at either of them. "R-right, sorry..." He murmured, only looking up as his teammate began striding away. Way to go Haru, not even ten seconds as a team and you've already made a complete fool of yourself. Would Mibu even want to be teammates with such a failure? Would Ryoken? How long before the Chowakage realized his mistake and removed him from the squad?

Would that really be so bad though?

Haru shook his head, dwelling on it wasn't going to change things anyway. He turned back towards Naomi and Shinjiro, giving a short bow. "G-good luck..." He didn't wait for a response before turning and walking after Mibu.

Team Makoto: Naomi Hanataro
Ryoken’s greeting was to be expected, the popular boy reputed to be bright like a puppy. It was Mibu that surprised her. Mibu didn’t often offer a helping hand to others. But then, perhaps Naomi simply didn’t know the masked girl very well. Rarely ever saw her, in fact.

“Hehe, she called you precious,” Naomi said brightly to Haru as she took Mibu’s offered hand right away. Unfortunately, the boy didn’t seem to hear as he was still face flat on the grass. Perhaps he was more hurt than she’d thought. Had the fall given him a concussion?

Her attention was drawn away as her teammates spoke. Emerie wanted to be a genin as soon as possible. Naomi couldn’t blame her. She’d like to be a genin as well. Her anxiety for tests (mainly written ones) came from a string of failures at the academy. Her graduating had been a miracle in and of itself. She hadn’t even mastered the Bodyflicker or substitution technique for crying out loud. Shinjiro must’ve picked up on that worry. She was more worried about her grades affecting him than whether or not she’d pass and become a genin.

Still. His words did help.

“I’ll do my best,” Naomi replied. That was all she could offer. “Just let me make sure he—,”

And Haru was on his feet. A quick survey of his condition revealed no serious injuries, though Naomi wasn’t a medic-nin by any means. His eyes also seemed permanently glued to the ground. Even when he wished them luck, he hadn’t looked up. Or when he followed after his teammate. Keeping one’s eyes on the ground was one of the major causes of tripping. Naomi ought know. She was about to warn him when her eyes caught sight of something else. An apple and a water bottle lying carelessly in the grass. Haru’s? Going over to pick up the items, Naomi looked up to find that Mibu and Haru were already out of sight.

Seeing as how she hadn’t been paying attention to the speech, she hadn’t a clue where his team had gone for their test. She didn’t even know where her team was testing. Emerie and Shinjiro likely did though…which reminded her: they were waiting.

“Sorry about that! I’m ready!” Naomi quickly put the items in her pouch and hurried after her teammates. They were her guide to the testing site after all. She’d have to return Haru’s things to him later. Once the genin exam was over.

Chosen Vale Community Clinic

The sign was certainly quaint, as was the building itself. Doctors were scary creatures for those from the outer districts of Chowaku. The bills... the waiting... the needles. Closest thing to monsters of lore within the city limits. At least thugs could only steal the money you had on you. The fact this clinic was in the slums was only worse.

A masked kunoichi shivered, instantly shaking her hands against her elbows, mostly covering the veins. It suddenly seemed much colder for some reason. But there was no logical reason for that. The team was there to take a test of some sort. There was no reason to be nervous of the test. Why would any one of them be nervous of something mythical, like a doctor? Highly illogical, and therefore that thoughtline had to be severed.

It didn't matter too much WHY they were here. Just that they were. At least Haru and Ryoken hadn't screamed on the way there; hearing was restored to Mibu. However, it was impressive how fast Ryoken could finish an apple. Inhuman almost. Fascinating. Was this supposed to be what made teammates precious?

Haru still seemed highly illogical all the way there. The way he stared at the ground, the way he apologized... the boy was an introvert, that must be it. An extreme introvert. Being in a crowd of so many people must have pushed him to an extreme. He likely would want some alone time. Mibu could not allow herself to be caught then if she decided to watch him later.

Teammates needed gifts. If a restaurant would raise spirits with Ryoken later, what could raise Haru's spirits? Perhaps a sleepmask. A way to keep people out. Could that be an affordable gift considering the expenses of a month? It would be worth it to make allowances. Teammates were precious afterall.

Well, Mibu might as well make conversation. What would even be brought up? That was how friendships formed, correct? Granted all the books read by Mibu were so dramatic about it. According to them Naomi falling over Haru meant at some point they would be married. Red thread of fate. Interesting. That could be an interesting point of conversation.

"Haru, a question. The girl, Naomi, fell over you earlier. Does this bring any feelings to you? Perhaps she was acting clumsy because she likes you? Ah, wait, it appears we are here.

Ryoken, would you knock, you have the... most approachable voice. Tatsuya Minazuki is who we are looking for. Hmm... What sort of test could this be? "

Mibu held her hands to her ears, being preemptive.
