Lee-Feng Soo Han sat unceremoniously upon a stone bench in the garden. He had long white hair gathered neatly in a ponytail with a wispy white goatee surrounding his thin, pale lips. He was silent and motionless, enthralled in a deep, troubling train of thought.
Sunlight bathed a greenery surrounding the scene as William Porter made his way toward his aging master, hands cupped behind his back. He was of Jamaican-American descent, having short cropped hair with dark sunglasses to conceal his milk-white eyes. Despite his clinical blindness, Will immediately took notice of Lee-Feng's uncharacteristic behavior. Sifu was usually busy tending to the grounds, meditating, or hovering over Will's training.
"Is everything alright, sifu?" Will asked with a soft tone of voice reflecting his concern without the threat of patronizing the elder.
"I fear that I have not done enough," Lee-Feng answered him. He was distant, still entangled in his thoughts.
Will sat on the ground in front of Lee-Feng, crossing his legs. "You are the greatest man I know, sifu. Talk to me. Tell me what's on your mind?"
"One day they will come for this place, and I fear I have failed to protect it." Lee-Feng's composure cracked ever so lightly as he uttered the words. Tears threatened to spill forth as his chin quivered. Will was deeply troubled by the sound of his voice. It was a moment of vulnerability he had never witnessed before.
"Who? Who will come?"
Lee-Feng opened his tender brown eyes and forced a warm smile. "You have been such a good student, William. It's time I tell you the truth."
Will was unsure of what to do or say, disturbed by Lee-Feng's sudden anguish.
"There are forces in this world given to darkness. One day their army will descend upon this city, and you must ensure they do not succeed."
Will's brow furrowed tightly. "Hey, sifu. Whatever happens, we'll face it together."
Lee-Feng forced another warm smile, nodding several times before rising to his feet. "Yes, William. We will face it together." With that he made his way inside the dojo, leaving Will alone in the garden to process the vague revelation.

The sun had set over Citadel City only hours ago. William Porter was peacefully meditating in the main hall when the power abruptly failed, leaving the dojo in darkness. He opened his solid white eyes slowly, and gave a slight glance of his right shoulder as his superhuman hearing picked up the low thundering of approaching footsteps. By his estimation they numbered in the hundreds, and were closing in from every direction. He calmly took his sunglasses in hand, opened them and placed them over the bridge of his nose. He took a deep, tranquil breath before the doors of the dojo were kicked open.
Will slowly rose to his feet, uncrossing his legs into a firm stance facing away from the doorway. Shadow Temple ninjas began to flood the doorway on mass.
"Lessons are closed for the evening. Please return tomorrow-"
Before he could finish, his acute senses detected movement behind him, and the swinging of a blade fixed upon his neck. Will reacted with a spinning duck to avoid the path of the blade. As his torso shifted sideways toward his assailant he threw twin punches, to the chest and stomach of the attacker. Both landed flush and with devastating force, knocking the ninja off his feet and sending him across the dojo floor like a rag doll.
Will returned to a standing posture, facing the invaders. He tucked his fists under his armpits before releasing a breath and bringing open palms to his sides.
"You've brought violence into this sanctuary," Will declared, lowering his chin as an anger swelled inside of him. "I can't tell you how upset that makes me." He slowly removed his sunglasses, tossing them carelessly to his right side. He lifted his chin, opening his milky whites.
"So I think it's best if I show you."

The Universe
Mythic universe is an OC super powered universe with the goal of building an actual universe, whole and true. We do not accept ports of any kind, Marvel, DC, or any others. Mythic normally requires origin RPs for each principle character, but since this presents unique challenges (like getting a group together to support a lead hero and villain for an entire RP) I decided we needed a sandbox sort of story that will allow characters to stack up for their RPN debuts.
Blackout will serve as a grand opening for Mythic, and a test run for all of our characters. The idea is that once you take out your OC, and complete a plot alongside others, the exposure and experience will make the process of origin stories that much smoother. And to be clear, unless you're a side or supporting role, you are required to complete an origin story. The whole point of Mythic is to do super powers properly. Without the process of a genesis and full development, you're just a rando in spandex.
I am available for each and every origin story. I have no issue playing a non-meta supporting role; they are just as important and rewarding when done right. I understand that for most people this is looked upon as toxic and boring. People want to be front and center, powers-a-blazing, and that's perfectly fine. Blackout is a way to bypass the origin process for the time being, and give everyone a taste of what they can expect from a given character's section of the universe.
The year is 2013. the location is Citadel City, NY. When the power grid supplying the city mysteriously goes down, the city falls into darkness for what will come to be known as Citadel's Longest Night. As civilian technicians hopelessly scramble to get the grid back online, an army of Shadow Temple ninjas descend upon the city with the goal of seizing absolute control over the advanced metropolis. Thousands of Shadow Temple agents who have been living incognito will emerge to participate in the invasion. From corrupt civil workers, politicians and police, to villains and even mundane civilians who have been waiting for the order to strike. The resulting city-wide conflict will play host to any number of hero and villain appearances. The possibilities are limitless at this point.
The primary hub of Shadow Temple activity in the city is Global Tech, a research and development company. For decades it has served as a base of operations for the Shadow Temple, as well as nefarious villain activity in general. The leader of the Shadow Temple force in Citadel City is a character I currently manage. He is shrouded in a thick, murky layer of absolute mystery, and will remain as such for the time being. That's a whole other story for a whole other RP. All you can know (IF you're a member of the Shadow Temple) is that he is referred to as "The Master." Only a handful of select villains have ever seen his face or heard his voice. The Master is never talked about at random to protect his identity. Can't be shrouded in mystery when every lackey is blurting your name out around strangers.
Founded in ancient Japan sometime in the 11th century. They developed the shinobi code and techniques prior to spreading it throughout feudal Japan via their agents. They represent the use of violence to control one's own destiny. They teach unconditional loyalty to the temple.
They employ ninjas highly trained in the arts of shinobi, kenjutsu, and jujitsu. Some are metahumans, some are not.
(Night vision aid is pretty much mandatory. A gold glove signifies that you've killed a Light Temple monk in combat.)
Founded in ancient China sometime between the Han and Tang dynasties. The Temple of Light represents the protection of innocent life, the prevention of violence, and the spread of virtue among humankind.
They employ monks highly trained in the arts of wushu, judo, and qiang (spear/staff). Some are metahumans, some are not.

What Are The Temples?

The Rules
This story isn't about anybody. It's not even about Blindside (Will Porter). It's a special story that lets everyone participate. This means you can't cheat and make it serve as your origin story. It doesn't work like that. I will tell you flat out that this plot used to be one of my primary character's story lines. I've since switched things up so that it does not revolve around Crusader, at all. He will be present, however, and the plot does serve to throw a huge twist in his development. Having said all that, you're free to use it in the same way. The only rule plot-wise is that you can't cheat your way around a proper origin story. No one cares about history on a character sheet when it comes to super powers. No offense to other RPs and their casts, just a fact of the genre.

- All sheets will be mailed to and accepted by me before participation.
- Earthling Metahuman characters only, for now.
- 99.99% of all powered individuals are metahumans. They were born with genetic quirks that manifest in powers. TO reiterate, radiation exposure kills people, it doesn't give them powers.
- Maximum of 3-5 powers per meta, and please, for the love of god be reasonable. Matter, reality, and time manipulation with strength and speed is entirely too much unless you're a villain.
- Try not to bluntly emulate existing heroes. Some clear influences are acceptable, but the emphasis is on OCs.
The Sheet
There used to be a wonderful coded sheet but it was the dirtiest code you'll ever work with in your life. Sections would randomly multiply themselves over and over until the structure was so broken it would stop working altogether. So this is a simplified version. I will be looking to have another coded version made after this RP.
