Fantasy Mystery of the Magi - Revival

DemetrioMachete

Messiah of the New Night
Centuries ago...
The world was a fantastic place; teeming with life in every corner. There were five kingdoms spread across three continents: the Democratic Republic of Vaars, the Absolute Monarchy of Fyelli, the Virtuous Kingdom of Romosh, the Autocratic Territories of Barbaros, and the Empire of Grendel.

Magic once existed in large quantities, up until the Magi Hunts, which drove them to near extinction. Freed from their dependency on magic, Mankind rebuilt their civilization with an Industrial Revolution. Steampower and Gunpowder are employed everywhere in every field from agriculture, to medicine, and especially war.

Only a month ago from today, the Empire of Grendel formally declared war on the entire world, assured of their victory with their secret trump card: a fusion between the technology of today, and the once-thought extinct arts of magic, an unholy union known as Magitek. When the Empire crosses the seas, their Magitek will receive their first, devastating test...

I wanted to make this a Hosted Project so I could tackle the issue of introducing characters into the setting a bit differently. But that's a tad wonky at the moment. Until then, I am accepting all newcomers who share interest in a Steampunk setting! Go ahead and brainstorm character ideas, and don't be afraid to ask questions!

I'm intrigued by the concept though I do need a bit more information on where the newcomer's characters fall in this. Are we (the newcomers) following after what the old cast has done or will you restart the story all over letting us all be on the same page?

I did do a bit of research and found the lore of your previous roleplay. Would the lore still stand for the revival or will you edit it?

How will the characters meet, assuming some of us will be from different kingdoms? Would the Peacekeepers be the key to gathering them all together or will it be solely on the player's decision on what they choose? Or will we all be of one kingdom/ alliance?

Magis are still alive so if a player would happen to be a Magi or stumble on one, what abilities do the Magis have or will you explain it all through the story?

As for brainstorming for our characters, is there any specific details you want our characters to have such as weaponry, armor, role/ job, and etc? Can one be a cyborg (Like have an artificial arm whether it works like a weapon or not)?

( Sorry for bombarding you with these questions. I just want to be able to get an understanding of where I can start creating/ thinking up ideas for my character c: )

Heh.

Yeah Id be starting all over since my previous attempt went nowhere due to long gaps between replies.

As for how I wanted to introduce characters into the setting? Gradually. I would have each character begin in their own little "prologue" which follows their actions wherever they are until they manage to enter the same region another character is in. From there, the main group thread would be used for communication with any players that have met each other.

Magi abilities are mostly what it says on the tin: the ability to cast spells. Spells have different functions depending on their school of magic, and I'd like for Magi characters to "specialize" into one of these schools.

Characters are permitted any strum of weaponry they can think of at the beginning, with a few exceptions. Only Imperial Soldiers have access to Magitek, and actual Magic Weapons Magic Armors are an absolute no-no, as they tend to break the rp quite fast.

The role the Peacekeepers play would simply be to try and turn people against the Empire into one united force. It's really up to you if you think their cause is worth fighting for.

I'm only making slight changes to the lore. Like retooling the "war of the Magi" into less of an actual war and more into a global witch hunt. I also wanted to explain the disappearance of races like Dwarvenkind, Elvenkind, Orcs and etc. Civilized fantasy races like Elves or Dwarves are all but extinct in this setting, you could count the number of living Elves or Dwarves on your hands. Half-Elves are slightly more common. This is largely due to Humanity being widespread and intermingling with other species. Like Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthalis, the non-human races were outbred into near extinction, to the point where an Elf would be mistaken for a human with pointy ears.

You can start wherever youd like, and with my experimental prologue system you'll all meet up eventually.

I cover everything you asked?

Captain Oliver Captain Oliver yes you may tag along.

Just in-case my idea doesn't fit the bill... Other than being able to cast magic, is it possible for 'passive' magic to exist? Either through a side-effect or inexperienced control over said spell that is hard for the user to maintain? Also also, is there a specifics to the schools and their specialties?

I guess? I mean some spells I know of are already "passive" in nature. When you can, expand on that.

Oh yes, and the schools of Magic.

Evocation - Magic involving energy manipulation. Primarily used for offense but it can be used to heal as well.

Transmutation - Turning living beings and objects into other living beings or objects. Or even turning objects into living beings. Or living beings into objects!

Divination - Sniffing out information and spying. Good for learning things the gm doesnt want you to know yet.

Enchantment - Providing buffs and curses to people or objects.

Abjuration - Spells that mostly affect other spellcasters and their ability to cast spells. Mostly about blocking, negating, and banishing.

Conjuration - Bringing things into existence via shifting reality.

Necromancy - Fiddling with the dead.

Illusion - Messing with the senses of other people.

Lore - Using the abilities of monsters you've encountered as your own.

Go right ahead. We're in no hurry due to the state of Hosted Projects, but you may use this space to brainstorm up a character!

You did! Thank you for taking the time to answer all my questions and you have my full interest to join the roleplay. Can't wait for it to start and if you need any help, I would be happy to provide assistance.

As for my character, I had an idea to make a cyborg engineer from Fyelli Kingdom. Due to an - almost - lethal situation, their legs were severely injured to the point the nerves could not function anymore making their legs useless. With the help of their older sibling, they were able to sustain functional but prosthesis legs to help them walk, though it took years to try to develop these 'legs' to function properly.

Until the lore is added, I'll ponder more on my character.
