Jae's body type resembles Steven Kim's (as shown in picture), making him physically fit. He is 5'11" tall and weighs about 180 lbs. Most of his weight is in his muscles. His hair is dark brown and remains in a clean short cut with some layers on top with a dash of bed head fluff (like this). His eyes are a shade of dark brown. Due to his split heritage, his eyes and hair color stem from his father's side, along with his almond shaped eyes, and his body structure and height stems from his mother's side. His fashion style resembles this alongside his nursing scrubs and paramedic uniform.
Personality: Jae is a leader type of person. He strives to better himself every day. He tries to be a role model for his friend Benjamin and encourages healthy choices. Jae tends to be an introvert. He only speaks when he feels his opinion applies to the situation or conversation. Jae does have a sense of humor but it is more of a "bonding-in-the-moment" sense of humor, with a tad bit of casual teasing. He is reliable and an adventurer. He isn't afraid to take risks where he feels he can succeed. Jae does not flee from responsibility, in fact he openly takes it upon himself to handle.
Backstory: Jae was born and raised in South Korea. His father was Korean and his mother was an American woman. A problem occurred that caused his father to abandon his family. His mother, heart broken, moved back to the States with Jae, in hopes of finding better work. Jae's mother died when he was at the age of 17. Her death forced him into one year of foster care. No one wished to adopt a nearly grown boy, so once he reached the age of 18, the foster care system set him up with a job training program where he forced himself to succeed. He did not want to rely on anyone but himself and so he trained in the medical field. He managed to become a CNA and started his training to be a paramedic. His father remains out of the picture and no contact has been made between them. He managed to become a per diem employee at a local hospital, which aided his funds for college and an apartment. He met his best friend Benjamin Callahan while taking FYI courses at their college. Benjamin got into many peculiar situations, causing Jae to feel compelled to keep him out of trouble. Benjamin then became glued to Jae's side to the point where they shared the same apartment and they became best friends from there. Despite the differences in their hobbies and interests, Jae enjoyed Ben's occassional gossip about the latest trends. Years passed and Jae's experience in the medical field have reached a higher place. He became an LPN and moved out of his apartment with Ben, and into a condo flat. Still being the best of friends, Ben frequently seeks to move in with Jae and hangs out with him as much as possible. Jae willingly takes Ben with him on traveling excursions around the world on vacation.
Other: Jae is bilingual. He can speak Korean and English fluently. His story focuses on a trip that he takes with his friend Ben. While traveling around Europe they shop at some neat antique shops and Jae happens to buy an old collector coin. The coin is later to be discovered as the cause of the woman's apparitions that Jae sees and chases after. Jae's fixation on this mysterious woman causes Jae and Ben to follow her into a strange alley that takes them into a time-loophole; thrusting them back in time. Jae and Ben quickly discover the lack of modern inventions and have to adapt to their new surroundings until they can figure out how to return to their time period. Of course, Jae's mysterious lady keeps him well distracted, despite Ben's pleas for focus on getting home.
Inspiration: When I first started the creation process for Jae, the song "Free Somebody" by Luna had been the first song in the list. I mulled over that song a few times with the phrase "free somebody" sticking in the back of my mind. When I came back to the site, the song had changed to Twice's "Cheer Up", which confused me but it didn't throw me off too much. If it is okay with the judges, I just want to say that I am keeping my inspiration from Luna's song in addition to the inspiration I've gleaned from the other three songs. The style of music genre for "Foreign" gave me the idea that I should create a character that isn't my normal "white guy" type. So instead I created Jae with the idea that he is partially Korean and English-American decent. f(x)'s "4 walls" helped fuel the world that Jae Grant and his friend Benjamin live in. It gave root to their struggle with staying in their modern time zone and walking into time loopholes that bring them into the past. This song inspired their story, while "Cheer Up" added to Jae's confusion with dealing with the mysterious girl that caught his attention in his world. The song gave me the idea of his relationship with her and how they interact with one another. Baby Metal's "Gimmie Chocolate" sprouted the idea for Jae's friend Benjamin, who I describe below.

Benjamin's body type is a bit more on the stocky side. He is 5'8" tall and weighs about 190 lbs. His hair is brown and reaches his shoulders. He has been trying to grow a beard so he has some scruffy stubble too. His eyes are a hazel-blue.
His wardrobe consists almost entirely of metal rock bands and gamer shirts. He has multiple zipper hoodies and skater sneakers. Despite his age, he doesn't try very hard to impress. Many of his jeans consist of at least one hole in the knee and fraying at the heels.
Personality: Ben has always thought of himself as a decent person. His friends would describe him as one that follows the crowd or the type of person who wouldn't do something out of his normal routine. He's predictable and a bit of a worry-wart. If his friend(s) start doing something that is illegal he'll get all fussy and attempt to disuade them. Should his nagging not work, he refuses to be left behind and follows suit. His sense of humor is all over the place. Sometimes his humor is sarcastic or self-deprecating and at other times his humor revolves around quirky cultural/media references that Jae doesn't always get. Ben likes to know things, whether they be useless facts or gritty gossip. He is most often seen playing video games or dancing in his living room to some intense metal music, if you can call that dancing. He is loyal to friends, but also self-serving in his personal needs and wants.

His parents signed Ben up for boyscouts for a few years before highschool. He gradually leaned more secular and enjoyed his selfish life-style. Ben grew to like the punk and metal bands that shaped his sense of style. His parents still care for him, helping him with his college tuition and apartment fees. Despite his turn from his family's religious views, he kept his Christian-influenced morals, deeming them respectable and worthy to uphold. His parents do not like more than half of his friends from school, especially those who got him into gaming, but they encourage Ben's involvement with Jae. Jae presents himself as a role model that Ben's parents feel Benjamin could learn from. Feeling pretty good that his parents like Jae, Benjamin keeps his friendship with Jae strong, even though he continues to hang out with his geeky gang of troublemakers. Once in college, Ben managed to get himself a part time job at a grocery store and a gas station. The money he earns from this go towards his entertainment and car bills.
Other: The day Jae and Ben returned home from their trip to Europe, Jae started acting funny. He kept staring off into the distance as though looking for someone. At one point while leaving the airport, Jae takes off in a run, causing Ben to be confused and chase after him. Fearing to be separated, Ben manages to keep Jae in sight and sees him standing on the side walk looking into an alley. Ben reaches him but Jae decides to walk into the alley. Frustrated, Ben looks around and follows Jae inside, only to discover when he comes out that he is no longer in the modern world. Trees and dirt streets surround them. Later on, Ben remembers back from his boyscout days that chocolate is one of the best survival foods to have on you, causing his obsession with buying chocolate in the old world while traveling with Jae. He felt that the safest food he could eat was chocolate, fearing any diseases that could befall him while living in the past. He tends to be a bit useless in a fight, though adrenaline and rage helps him on rare occassions. (spoiler) By the end of their story, Ben turns a new leaf and listens to Jae's healthy advice and keeps himself prepared for any future craziness.

However, in this contest's case, I managed to come up with something as I listened to that song and was working on my main character contestant, Jae Grant. Benjamin spewed out of my mind when I realized that I think it would give Jae Grant another person to focus on while he travels back in time chasing down his mysterious lady. Benjamin became that "side kick" character that whines and occassionally has that good idea that the protagonist tends to forget about. Benjamin plays that role of loyal friend who gets into trouble and relies on Jae to get him out of sticky situations. On that note, the Baby Metal song kept singing about chocolate, and in this story's case, chocolate could be one of the most safest types of food that Ben would be obsessed with eating while trying to survive in that old world. The need for chocolate became very strong. The music type added to Benjamin's character. He's a metal fan and a gamer and he likes his modern privilages. The inspiration for his body type stemmed from Eli Wallace in Stargate Universe. Their personalities are a little similar but their talents are completely different. Ben is by far no math genius.
