My Neighbor Has A Crush

The morning was sunny, and a little too hot for her liking. It felt different from the one she was used to, but she supposed it wouldn't really matter. JJ stopped in front of the apartment building. It was five stories tall, and made of uniform red brick. "Beautiful, as always," she commented to herself. It had been her home for all of one month, and she still wasn't completely used to it. Before this, she'd lived in a cooler climate; she missed that. Still, new cities had new beginnings, maybe she'd find a good permanent spot this time.

JJ had just arrived back from a job interview at a café four blocks away. It had gone reasonably well: she hadn't offended the interviewer, at least, she didn't think she had. At the moment, she was dressed in a gray cardigan and a black pencil skirt. It wasn't her usual style, but hey, she wanted to get a job so that she could actually pay off the rent at the end of the month. She made her way up the three flights of stairs to her floor. It was a long walk in 4-inch heels, and the backs of her shoes were starting to rub. "Great, it's morning and my feet are already killing me," she sighed.

She paused in front of the door of apartment 302, her home. It was a little past 11 in the morning. Most days, she would have tried to sleep in, but not when she had a job interview, even if only for the café down the street. JJ stifled a yawn. Maybe she'd take a nap when she got in. JJ reached for her purse and started looking for her keys.

Xavier was slowly, but steadily coming up the steps of the apartment building carrying a three cases filled with prototype games for the company he worked. He was to test how good they were on the system. This would be a fun job if it was his job. The only reason he has this assignment is because they were short on beta testers this month, so they allowed the lackey, Xavier, to play some of these games, but only on his time. Carrying three boxes worth of game wouldn't have been trouble if it wasn't for the accessory that came with that add some pounds.

Just a little bit further...

Xavier was almost to his hall just a few more steps up the stairs. He reached the third step from the last and slipped. On What you might ask ? His shoe string. This caused him to tumble down the stairs that echoed load grunts and clank sounds. He landed against a wall on his back while upside down. " Auuughh.... Damn... That hurt..." He grumbled till kind dizzy from the fall.

JJ was about to insert the key in the lock when she heard the loud crashes from the stairwell. She hesitated for a couple moments. She knew she should help the idiot who tripped down the stairs, but her feet hurt and she wanted that nap. JJ sighed, her painted deep pink lips parting as she did so, and turned back to the stairwell. She slipped off her heels, leaving them in front of her door, and walked barefoot to the top of the stairs. Damn, that looks painful, she sympathized and carefully made her way down the stairs.

"Hey, idiot, are you alright?" Her tone was rough but not without concern. JJ halted a few stairs from the bottom and stooped to pick up a few of the games that Xavier had dropped. She straightened up and examined the young man who was slammed up against the wall. He looked a bit out of it. If he'd hit his head during the fall, he might have a minor concussion. If he's alright, I'll just leave and go about my business, but if he's hurt, I'm not enough of a jerk to just leave him there.

Much to his surprise, a pretty girl stood before him when he opened his eyes to see who asked the question. "Ngh..!" Xavier groaned as he made himself sit right side up. " Uh.. I think so. Thanks u-um.. for asking." He said as rubbed his head, not looking directly at her. He looked pretty embarrassed, since that he fell down the steps, but soon tried to hide it.

Xavier jumped a little as he felt a lump on his head. Ow.. What was that? He felt the lump again putting a more pressure on which made him jump higher. "Ouch!!.. Dang that hurts..." He slowly got up, moving with a slight womble, as he went on to his boxes to put the games that had fell out back in.

She frowned as he put his hand against the back of his head, but she didn't say a word until he had stood up. "Can you walk properly?" She meant it as a concerned question, but it sounded more like an insult. Oh, well. She held out the games she'd picked up. "So what's with all the games?" Why am I taking to him? She asked herself. Sure, he was kinda cute, but she wasn't really looking for a relationship at the moment. She had to get used to the city, find new friends to chill with, pay her stupid rent. Plus, my feet still hurt! She complained internally. Maybe she would just make a quick exit.

"Hm? Oh um.. Well, I work a Gaming Company and they needed someone to test a few g-games." He said as he took the games from her hand. " T-thank you, Miss." He collected all the games quickly and put them in the boxes, so he wouldn't made a fool out of himself anymore then he already did. He stacked the boxes on top other, before leaning against the wall. He felt pretty off from the fall off the stairs. He looked up at JJ and saw three of her. Noticing his image wasn't clear, he shook his head.

"Sounds pretty cool." Wow, even this kid has a job. I probably should work on that. She let out a short sigh; work was annoying.

"Just JJ," she corrected him. JJ watched as he put the games back in the boxes, not really sure why she hadn't left yet. Maybe she was interested. She didn't have many friends in the city yet, and maybe they could be; they were neighbors after all. "Hey are you sure you're alright?" She took a step forward seeing that his eyes had temporarily unfocused. What was she supposed to do, take him to the hospital?

"If you're feeling dizzy or you're vision's blurred, you might have a concussion. You have to be careful." She put her face in front of his and tried to make sure his eyes were focusing properly. "Can you see me clearly?"

"Um alright, JJ" Xavier said before looking her directly in the eyes" No, not really... I see three of you."

He stood steady against the wall, using it as a way to keep his balance. He felt a little awkward since this girl he really doesn't know was touching him as well as her up close and personal with his face, but he show tried his hardest not to show it. A little blush appeared on his cheeks however it wasn't that noticeable.

"Well, shit. That's not good." It was a concussion, definitely. "To the hospital it is, then. I'm no medical professional, but you're not in good shape." JJ straightened up still keeping an eye on Xavier. She glanced down at the boxes of games; it probably wasn't a good idea just to leave them in the hallway.

"I can stick the boxes in my apartment so no one takes them. It's just over there." I'm stuck with this guy now! Why do I keep offering to do more? JJ sighed lightly. It didn't look like she'd be getting her nap anytime soon.

"Oh.. Thank you, Um.. JJ" Xavier said before digging into his front pocket and pulling out his key. " My apartment number is 307." After awhile felt like he was going to fall down, he put his hand against the wall and slowing down to ground. "I'm sorry. I don't think I can help with the boxes. I'll wait here for you" He reached out his hand, giving her the key.

"Yup," she responded shortly and took the boxes and the key from Xavier. She glanced over her shoulder as she walked away. It would be kind of annoying if he passed out or fell over; she wasn't going to carry him down three floors of stairs. JJ made her way up to the landing of the third floor and down to 307, which was only a few doors down from her apartment and across the hall. She felt a little awkward walking into an apartment of a guy she had just met, so she left the boxes on the floor a few feet in from the door.

Curiosity called her to examine his apartment further, but she knew that was rude, and he was in the landing below, hopefully still conscious and upright. JJ locked the door behind her and headed back towards Xavier. As she passed her own door, she picked up the heels she had left their earlier and reluctantly put them on. She couldn't very well go to the hospital in her stocking feet. JJ flinched slightly wishing she didn't know she would feel guilty if she took ten minutes to change her outfit and her shoes. A couple moments later, she was standing in front of Xavier again.

"The hospital's only a little ways away, so we'll walk if we can. Just, try not to fall down the stairs again," she told him, and headed down the next flight of stairs.

Xavier slowly got back up, using the wall to balance himself. "Hmph.. Well, Alright. Lets go I guess" he stated as he peeks over at JJ prior to walking slowly down the stairwell. As he made it to the exit door, he opened it wide and held it, waiting for JJ to exit before walking down the stair with his hand against his head.

JJ thanked Xavier for holding the door, and continued out of the building and down the street. She glanced to the side making sure that Xavier was still with her and still looking alright. Her feet complained as she walked. Maybe she should have made Xavier wait a few minutes longer and spared herself this discomfort. JJ shrugged it off. There was nothing to be done now.

By the time they reached the hospital, JJ was about to throw her shoes in the nearest dumpster, but resisted the urge. "We'll just go to the ER. Shouldn't be too busy right now." It was morning, after all, and they lived in a decent neighborhood, so JJ figured they'd see Xavier pretty quickly. Maybe she could just leave him once she'd left him in the doctor's care. "This way," she added, turning to the emergency entrance.

She ushered Xavier into the waiting room, and walked up to the nurse behind the desk. "He has a concussion," she told the other woman matter-of-factly. "Right," the other responded. "Name?" The nurse asked, turning to Xavier. "And I'll need you over there to get your vitals checked quickly."

(Sorry super busy these past days)

Xavier sat in the chair with hands against his head. Oww.. Nghh... Why does it hurt so much.. He raised his hand and waved it a little before saying" Uhh.. My name is.." He stated as he put his hand down and put it next to his lip. "Uh.."

Not long, Xavier began to tap his foot while thinking long and hard about this super easy question. " Hmm.. It's... Xan- NO Xave- Nope Oh! Wait it is Xavier! Yeah, Xavier Al- al- Alexander. Xavier Alexander. " He snapped his fingers as he made the statement.
