My first group RP

Reve the Third

The King of Slavadia
Okay, I've finally managed to get a group of active RP members... I managed to get our schedules of when we'll decide when we decide on adding our part to the RP. And now we're at the point where we figure out who goes first, and who does what at what time... and now I realise... I don't know what I'm doing.

Do any of you have advice for how I sort this out? I've never had an RP where there's more than one person Role Playing with me. So I'm finding it difficult to organize this.

Well, you don't necessarily need to have a posting order since if one person doesn't post then you either have to move on or wait. But posting orders are great if you have a lot of people!

To reduce the large amount of pages to read from two people back and forth RPing, have them bring it to the PMs and then, once finished, post it all in one big post. Just a suggestion.

Basically, a group RP is multiple 1x1s. You can interact with one person or multiple. If multiple, usually it's an order pattern unless someone skips the other person. So if there are 3 players, including you, it would be: you post, 2 posts, 3 posts, you post, etc.

Get my drift? Group RPs aren't complicated at all. They're just a big 1x1 with multiple people. :) Hopefully this helps in some sort of way.

Just do it. You're going to fail; it's inevitable with it being your first time. The experience you gain though will be all worth it.

I'm familiar with how people similar to you operate. Stop thinking. Start the role play. See how far it goes. When it dies, study what didn't flow and give your mind those questions to chew on. The more reference points you have, the more complete your path to the perfect RP will be.

You'll get the hang, trust me.

I already failed once.

And I don't want to fail again.

The last one I learned that there's a lot of inactive Roleplayers on this site.

After finding ones that ARE active, I want it to go right this time.

Failure is not inevitable... it's just hard to prevent.

Ah, I get the feeling. Definitely. Nobody wants to fail. You have to see though, that it's a major part of the process to get to where you want to go. Most lives of the richest rich, smartest scientists, or most prodigious athletes, were filled with much disappointment early on if you take a good look (Warren Buffet, Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan).

The attitude you have is good; not wanting to fail again. Your first misstep did its job. You learned there are a lot of inactive players on the site, and what you do now will be better than before. Failure shouldn't discourage, but motivate you to improve on what you did before. Anything to avoid that sting. It should allow you to give your all in hopes to someday beat it, or prevent it, going off what you've said.

Forever mulling over and shaping things is kind of a disservice to yourself ( :( ). I hate to see it happen. It robs you of an important process. The site has plenty of guides on things, so feel free to look around. I'm not beating you over the head for asking advice either. It just seems you want to get to a perfect step 10 without walking on 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 first.

Now, it's a bit difficult to answer your question Rev, because it's essentially asking: how do I do a role-play? That's very hard to answer. The answer covers everything. Is there anything specific you were looking for?

I KNOW how to do a roleplay. I've roleplayed before I've ever been on this site. I've just never done it with more than one person. I've been through several trial and errors, so failure doesn't usually phase me... its just it's been a while since I've been... challenged.

Besides, I've already figured it out: a second instance. A way to deal with 4 or more other Roleplayers is to have multiple groups. From there, All I have to worry about is occasionally fusing the two together.

Good luck to you then. Holler if you ever need help.
