Welcome to the testing facility. As you may - or may not have - been told, you are here to serve as 'test subjects' and to be trained in the skill of Resonance. Yes, I do realize that I said you were to be used as test subject. I can assure you that we will do all we can to make sure no harm comes to your physical being, so long as you cooperate fully. Our first task is to analyze your current skill in Resonance. Once that is judged, we will give you a Seed, a Song, and fit you with a cartridge. Please step this way - it really will be better for you if you do so.

Only me and @SaphireTsuki are allowed to post here. :)

The room was nearly bear, books and a bookshelf on one side, a bed in a corner, and a desk in the other. There was a small, grey rug on the floor, a few blue cushions, and the closet that made up the wall between bed and desk was filled with kimono and pants, and shirts. One or two of the books lay strewn across the floor, and a girl sat surrounded by papers, sorting through them, on the floor. Her blue hair streamed around her, some papers laying on top of it, indicating that whatever she was doing she'd been at for a while. If they listened close they would hear the sound of her muttering to herself about the contents of the papers, reports she had gathered about the more dangerous, manic side of her assigned scientitst. She was sure she wasn't his only subject, but so far he was the only one who'd taken an interest in her.

P r o m p t ________::..He looked over his current work, chewing on his lip and skimming over the contents of the document while insufficiently thinking about the details. He found himself awfully distracted, pencil tapping impatiently on his desk with his right hand. The notes were skewered, not organized in the least bit, simply placed where it was the most convenient at the current time. He was regretting it now as he marked where things needed to go, jotting down areas and patching notes that were written in a caveman like format; good for notes in quick timing, but terrible for reviewing later when each and every detail was needed to create justified results. It bothered him to no end when he got like this, so caught up in whatever he was trying to prove that he simply tossed words around as if they were balls on a kindergarten playground. Clutter, confusion, and it eventually led to bickering, something they could all use less off, if he was less than honest with himself. Pausing for a moment, he looked over to Saphire. He wondered how she managed to keep herself so focused on the work he assigned her; speaking of which, he needed to find her a new book to read, as of that matter. She made his work much easier, taking the load of his back and letting him focus on the most important things - such as unscrambling his own cryptic phrasing in a timely manner. He was easily overwhelmed and that made him very distracted. "Saphire," he sighed, brushing a small strand of stray, light brown hair from out of his face and boredly placing his head to rest in his hand. The document rested on the table now, pencil laying beside it as he let out loud puff of are. "Perhaps we should be done with work for now, yes? I believe it's about time for lunch."

The girl's head moved from the half-arranged papers, eyes owlishly moving from one source of focus to the next. Kyoden Taguchi, her scientist... what had he...? Oh, right, it was time for lunch. A break would be nice, though she'd have to arrange the papers into two piles, the organized one and the papers that still needed to be sorted. The look in her eyes faded, replaced with calm and the eyes pointed downwards, her usual timidness returning. She placed the papers she had to one side, gathering the rest of the ones around her so that she could resume work right away. "Y-yes sir, L-lunch should be soon." she winced at her own voice, sounding overly loud in the once-silent room, and quickly moved the two stacks of paper to their places on her bed, the foot having those in need of being sorted again. Her gaze once more avoiding him, she stood there awkwardly, pushing some of her hair behind her ear in a fit of nerves.

P r o m p t ________::..His calm orbs watched Saphire for a second before turning away, gather up any documents he could work on during lunch into his small document case; it was similar to a suitcase and a laptop bag, but was made for documents and a couple writing utensils. Nothing fancy, he'd noted several times, simply functional. And it did do the job it was designed to do. He packed about six documents in as well as a single pencil and a pen, clipped the latch, then loosely grasped it into his hand and walked towards the girl. He found her shyness cute - in a friendly way, of course - a bit like a small child that was meeting a new person for the first time. She was definitely much more mature than most of the other subjects around the facility, and that's mostly why he kept her around. He nodded at her and started to walk out of the room, key dangling from his wrist as he pulled the creaking door open and stepped out, noise filtering into his ears. His attention was mildly pulled away from his current objective as he watched the first of the other subjects filtered into the cafeteria rooms; at least, those who were non-dangerous enough to socialize with others. Those who didn't function well around beings were kept in their cells and had meals delivered to them it a very cautious manner. All for the safety of the building, of course, he consistently told the staff and those who had their meals brought to them every day. Just for the safety of the building. "Saphire," he addressed, stopping in front of the main hallway and pivoting his head to look back at her. "Is there anywhere in particular you'd like to sit today?" To him, it didn't really matter. As long as he could eat without any obsessive interruptions, it was fine. He figured it might be nice for Saphire to choose today, seeing as it was nice outside - if that's where she wanted to go, of course.

She had been quietly walking behind him, but when she noticed some of the other subjects she inched behind him, watching as the others started to talk together. More people? People were never good, they always went about things in odd ways. Like... like talking to her, instead of just saying what they wanted. It was so confusing, since she was just... used to being told what to do. The mostly-grey and white cafeteria was serving soup for lunch today. That was good, it meant she was less likely to get a sick stomach. A-and... oh dear, there would be more of them, wouldn't there. She usually hid behi- oh, h-he wanted her t-to choose? She gulped nearly silently, letting out in a tiny voice her answer "S-somewhere w-without a lot of people. U-um... m-maybe outside?"

P r o m p t ________::..He nodded at her, glancing at the doors and reaching into his pocket. His hands briefly touched over a small remote, pressing a button, signalling to the main office that they would be heading out soon. "Hn, lets go get lunch then," he stated evenly, planing one foot forward and beckoning with the other for Saphire to follow him. After a few steps, he stopped walking and turned towards her. "If you don't feel comfortable going though the line, I can always grab lunch and you can go ahead and wait by the doors. Just tell me what you want," he huffed, voice gentle but stern so that she knew she had to answer the question. He didn't mind grabbing her lunch, it might make things a bit quicker for him, anyways. He shifted his weight onto his right foot as he waited, quickly checking his watch so he could monitor the time. Inside, he was making a mental list of experiments he knew had to be done by the end of this week. He preferred not to set day dates, because things might have to stretch into the next day if something went wrong and then everything got messy. Rather, it was, "As long as it gets done around," instead of ,"it needs to be done by,"

She looked Kyoden Taguchi over, noticing how he was slightly antsy, and nodded. "J-just a sandwich and f-fruit is fine, s-sir...." He must have been in a rush, if he'd asked her for help. N-not that he wasn't used to it, but... and now she was fidgeting, hands wringing one another under his gaze. And more people were coming in... and she was itching to get out of the way. If they wanted to talk to her she would, of course... but she was almost certain they'd get mad at her for stuttering and being hard to hear.

P r o m p t ________::..Kyoden glanced at the girl, raising a hand and patting her head softly a couple times. "No need to get nervous, just head towards the front door," he murmured before heading towards the cafeteria line. Unlike the other test subjects, he didn't have to wait in line. Instead, he simply stepped up to a window and placed his order. He had to wait no more than five minutes at any given time to get his food before he could head off wherever he needed to go. Just as she had asked, on his tray was a couple of items for him and a sandwich and fruit for Saphire. Everything was neatly wrapped, bottled, or canned to prevent contamination and the only utensils given were plastic ones that would easily break if a fight rose up. Safety measures, you know, just to keep things safer for everybody in the building. Quite a big deal around here, especially since these weren't exactly government approved facilities in the first place. It kept word from breaking out and their operations from being shut down, which would be bad for a lot of them. Lawsuits, human rights laws, etc. etc. Yes, not good at all. Not very good at all. Nonetheless, the items were precariously stacked on the slated tray as he started walking towards the door himself, looking for Saphire before he decided to go outside. The courtyard was fenced, of course, and the place really was in the middle of nowhere. Not a lot of subjects were allowed outside without a bracer, which sent an electric impulse whenever they attempted to escape beyond the courtyard. It was enough voltage to knock just about anybody unconscious, unless you were like a 400 lb, seven foot tall man. That was very unlikely to happen, anyways.

"Yes sir." She nodded to him, walking out the door, shoulders raising with apprehension, but down the way she went. And into the entrance, out to the courtyard, and she looked around for any source of shade. Hopefully one near flowers? That would be really nice, actually... and there one was! Daisies and other garden flowers, nothing poisonous, she was sure, but not the kind of thing you'd want to eat anyway. She sat down near them, laying down on the grass, a small smile. After all, there was warm sunlight, the gentle smell of flowers, and slight wind... It was peaceful outside, when there wasn't anyone else around....

P r o m p t ________::..Kyoden made his way to the front doors, quickly passing out of them and making his way down the stairs. For a moment, he wondered with Saphire had run off to. Then he spotted her, resting in the grass, surrounded by flowers in the shade. He smiled lightly before heading over to her, tray in hand. Just like her to find such a spot to each lunch at. Sitting down as well, he slid the tray over to her and picked up his food, beginning go carefully unwrap each item before pulling out some documents that still needed taking care of. "Eat up," he mumbles, glancing over the paper currently in his dominated hand. He had to admit, the spot she picked out was quite nice. The day was rather hot and the shade made it an enjoyable temperature. "Very nice spot," he spoke again, this time through a mouthful of food.

"T-t-thank you, sir." She told him, looking up and down, taking the tray with slightly shaking hands. What to do? She had food, and could eat, but it was always so odd around people... she slightly shook her head, taking some of the wrapping off of part of the meal, taking small, measured bites. Food was always good, after all, at least here. She'd never been outside of these fences, she realized, so she couldn't exactly say anything about the rest of the world. Dr. Taguchi, however, had... so he must find this place dreadfully interesting, or maybe boring. She wasn't sure which.

P r o m p t ________::..Kyoden nodded, taking another bite of his sustenance. He released the tray, continuing to glance over the document with a small hum. He glanced over at Saphire, seeing her shake her head just barely, curiosity prodding into his thoughts. "Something on your mind?" he questioned, setting down his document to look at her, eyes intent. She had to be thinking of something, there was no way there was nothing on her mind. He was always curious as to what his test subjects were actually thinking about, and he was content to listen so long as they weren't arrogant about it. He took a sip of his coffee, neatly folding the document, and then placed it underneath his document case so it wouldn't fly away in the slight breeze there was at the moment.

The wind blew, a few long strands of her hair going out, but she continued to eat calmly... until Dr. Taguchi said something, then her hand jumped slightly. "M-my thoughts? I w-was just t-thinking about the outside. A-and hoping that y-you were here because you enjoyed your time here, a-and not because you h-had to be. I-I mean, it would b-be sad to j-just do something because you had to, wouldn't it?" She hadn't said anything out of turn, had she? It must have been something she shouldn't have thought, there was no other way. She'd always heard people be told that they weren't allowed to think about the outside, so she tended to try not to...

P r o m p t ________::.."Of course I like it here," he stated simply placing down his food on the short glass. "I realize that... I'm not always the kindest or most stable. But nonetheless, I do enjoy my time here," he sighed, popping himself up by locking his arms behind him. He huffed, thinking for a second, before glancing at Saphire to look for a reaction. "I'm guessing you are wondering about the outside world?" He figured as much; he was pretty sure every test subject did. Many of them probably craved a sense of freedom from this place, to explore, but it just wasn't allowed. They would all have to die here, just as the scientists would. Another measure to keep them all from being persecuted. He wouldn't mind telling her about the outside areas, where he'd been, and the such. As long as she didn't go around telling others. That might cause issues that they didn't need, and other scientists would want his head if they found out he had done so.

"J-just a little bit... I'm sure there are r-reasons why we're here, t-though." Even if she'd never known about them. After all, if there was a reason for them to be there, then there was funding, and this place wouldn't exist without that, even she knew it. Though, the songs most people were given to use seemed kinda... dull. There was something missing from them, and now she was wondering about something not related to the topic so she forced herself to pay attention to him again. "A-and I know I'm not supposed to, so I'm sorry..."

P r o m p t ________::.."Well if there's anything directly on your mind, feel free to ask," he stated, picking up his food and continuing to eat again. "Just make sure you don't tell anybody else, bad things would happen to the both of us." He sighed, slowly recounting all the things he did remember about the outside world. It'd been a while since he'd been outside of the facility, he had to admit. And he wasn't planning on heading out any time soon. In fact, he was pretty sure it was against policy for anybody but the test subject transport crew to leave the facility without being put into a force coma so that they couldn't escape, and even then they weren't aloud to speak. It was a strict policy, he realized. Perhaps something that would need changing in the future; he was getting a bit restless here himself.

"Yes sir." She nodded, resuming her own eating calmly. She didn't have much left, only a little bit left before she would be finished, but she didn't move once she had. It was nice being outside, and she didn't want to go back inside just yet... mainly because she was worried about what they would do once the organizing was finished. What would they have her do, sing? Try to fight the projections again? Something possibly worse? The experiment part of the day always worried her, but being outside, able to smell flowers and hear the wind, always calmed her down.

P r o m p t ________::.."So what exactly do you want to know?" he questions, staring outside the fence. It wasn't too far away from there If she wanted him to explain the outer world, there was no way that was happening. He'd have no idea how to start, and nonetheless how to finish. Just not something he was able to do. He continued to eat, pondering how he would respond to each question. It wouldn't hurt to just tell her the truth about everything. He took the last bite of his food, washed it down with a sip of his drink, crumpling up his wrappers. He then tossed the onto the tray and then flopped down on the ground, one arm under his head and the other by his side.

What she wanted to know? Everything... nothing... but she had to pick one thing. So... she finished her lunch, swallowed, and asked Dr. Taguchi one of the things that had worried her. She'd come across the word often in reading, and learnt quite a bit about it... from a technical point of view, but she didn't know for certain. "D-dr. Taguchi... w-wha... that is to say, a-a... wh-what's it like having a family?" She looked up at him, then down at the grass and flowers, afraid she'd said too much. "O-or.. j-just a m-mother or father..."

P r o m p t ________::.."Family, eh?" He sighed; this was going to be a difficult thing to explain. "It's..." He was going to have trouble explaining this to somebody that had never experienced it. He wasn't sure how to start, so he just started talking. He cringed at the fact that his 'speech' would be unorganized. "It's nice," he started, letting out a sigh. "You know you're surrounded by people who care about and love you, the feeling that they would do just about anything for you. Parents, especially." He wasn't sure if that would be good enough, but it was the best he could offer at this moment. She might be able to ask another question that would help him along.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So... people would love you? But... "w-why?" She blushed, noticing that her question had actually escaped her mind and jumped out the exit that was her mouth. And then she squared her shoulders, looking him in the eyes, "W-why do they love you? Why would they do so much for you? I... I don't... understand..." And now she was curling in, looking up an down, "N-not that you're explanation is bad, j-just..."

"What do you mean, why?" he questioned, before shaking his head to clear out his own pondering. This was a time to answer

her questions. "I..." He thought for a few seconds, deciding best how to answer her question. He honestly didn't know himself. "I guess.. they just do. It's a respect thing, I supposed." It was nothing he'd thought about before, if he was to be honest with himself. He barely remembered his childhood at all, just a few blurry memories of obscure things that didn't all that matter. "That's really all the answer I can give you." He shrugged, glancing at a fingernail and then looked at her. For a moment, he was concerned about her posture; but then he shook it off. It seemed to be rather normal for her.

"Thank you." She told him, hiding her surprise. Of course he wouldn't know... even if he had had a family, it wasn't like everyone else would care to remember how it felt and why they did stuff like that. They all took it for granted, didn't they? Something that everyone had... except people like her. But thinking about it wasn't going to help at all, and... and... "S-sorry for asking something so strange."

"It's alright," he hummed, stretching out among the grass. "If there's any other questions, feel free to ask," he stated, finally letting himself relax enough to close his eyes.

A rather patient person he was; an, of course, there was always the fact that he would most likely spend the rest of the day out here. There was nothing that really needed to be rushed at the moment. All the other scientists were very capable people that could handle themselves quite well. In addition, Security knew quite well where they were at the moment. If anything did arise - which, he doubt it would, seeing as the facility was normally quite peaceful - then it wouldn't be a problem to find him. He needed this time to relax, to actually get to spend time outdoors instead of being restrained to the stuffy confines of the indoor facility.
