I suppose that this shall suffice as an image of Quies, champion of the Moon Goddess.

At the Banquet | So We Begin

Selected by the Moon; that's what he had been told upon being invited to this banquet.
I suppose it's an honour, thought Quies with a pensive expression upon his face. He knew that victory entailed subsequent glory and the adoration of all the land's people, but that defeat would entail death. Does it really matter? Why should either outcome be desirable to myself, who lives simply for the sake of being? I suppose I do desire victory, but... why was I selected in the first place? I've never been one for violence; though I suppose my very serenity does so embody the aspects of the night. Rien pondered on his situation and the implications which it held for the state of his being and his future. Glancing across the table, he saw the other champion who had been selected by the Sun to serve as his opponent in the tournament. He supposed that he should acquaint himself with her before the tournament began. After all, they entered not from personal enmity, but rather because they had been selected as champions by warring gods.

"Hello," said Rien "I suppose then that you're the champion of the Sun. I am Quies d'Nox, who has been selected by the Moon as her champion in this annual tournament between the celestial deities. I don't really know what to make of all this, though I presume it should be an honour to have been selected as one who might embody the Moon herself this year. I suppose we should acquaint ourselves before the tournament, this is likely the last chance at civil conversation we'll ever have; soon we shall be interacting as enemies seeking one another's blood rather than just a boy and a girl making pleasant conversation at banquet table. Quite a morbid thought really, when you consider it." A faint smile crossed Rien's face; it would hurt him so to harm this radiant figure before him, though he acknowledged that he had been chosen by a god.
Surely, the will of the gods is immutable, thought Rien, in melancholic apprehension of the times to come.

Teri had mixed emotions. Having been a street rat, when she was claimed the Champion. She thought it was a joke. But, when people dragged her to get ready for a dress and did her hair, she was shocked. This much attention in such a little time almost made her crazy. So, when the man across the table addressed her. She didn't say anything at first.

What should I say? I don't know what to say. She glanced up again at him as he kept talking. She stared at him. He wants to strike up a friendly conversation? I suppose he has a point. "I suppose your right. Nice to meet you. I'm Teri. Not as quite elegant name. Now if you'll excuse me..." She stood up and walked to the dance floor since she felt like she had already messed up.

At the Banquet

The girl before him seemed nervous.
It's only natural, Quies supposed, seeing as to what lies ahead of us; I suppose I would be nervous too, if I truly valued all that I have in life. Though she responded to his petition in the affirmative, it was clear that the girl was unsure of herself and her present situation.

Teri, is it?
Quies felt quite sympathetic for the girl; there was something to be appreciated about her youthful naivete, the unsure way in which she spoke of her situation and herself, the tentative glance she threw back at Quies as she rose and retired to the dance floor. How most pleasant indeed, he thought, taking a final sip of wine from his goblet and wiping his mouth with the serviette before him. Then, he followed Teri to the dance floor.

"Teri," he said upon finding her among the attending crowd, "surely the present situation in which we have found ourselves must come as a great shock to you. Indeed, it is the same with myself, though perhaps I may have been better able to retain my composure. Alas, despite it indeed being quite dire, it is not necessary that such a situation might place such a burden upon you that even pleasant moments cannot be enjoyed. Thus, if you will then, let us partake of a dance of joviality, a final jubilant indulgence before our inevitable dance of death." He extended his hand towards her in a gesture of invitation. "May I have this dance?"
