Monsters. When people hear that word, they think of teeth and claws, pitchforks and torches, but it's different when they're real. When the stories aren't just stories anymore, people react differently. Fear is present, of course, but there's also the reality of the situation that drives things. This is where the differences come into play.
For centuries, even millennium, monsters kept themselves hidden from the human race. They're an inherently violent and prejudiced group of beings, after all, and because of their secrecy and seclusion have never quite had the numbers to overtake humans as a whole. Some countries and leaders gave them another option, though, when we discovered that what we thought were myths and fairytales were real. If at least some of them would volunteer to go to war for us - for only a short term, perhaps two years - they would be allowed to live among us in peace, without having to hide or fear being hunted down and killed.
Nothing is ever perfect, of course, and some aren't very happy about the situation, opposition and argument coming from both sides of the quarrel, but for now it's working to keep peace. And may every being on this earth pray to their respective deities that this arrangement continues to work, or we may just destroy our world altogether.
The basic plot is just the coexistence of humans and fairytale/mythical creatures in a modern world. Most creatures tend to look at least mostly human - or have a human form and a creature form to switch back and forth between - so they've managed to hide that way for so long. And so begins the integration of monsters and myths into modern society. You may use most any mythical creature/monster you'd like, but nothing too god-moddy or powerful. If anything like that happens, I or my Co-Mod jj9095 will let you know. Have fun
((Borrowing TheHarlequinCat's rules because they are very good rules and appeal to me ))
RULES: - Must be semi-literate (AKA: At least 1 paragraph, and preferably more if you can muster it. But 'brain farts' are understandable, and writer's block happens to everyone.)
- Use proper grammar and spelling to the best of your abilities. (Example of WHAT NOT TO DO: 'Mercedes a beautifil gurl wnet over to her crushand smiled "hiwho are you?1/1111!" she asked and she knew that even after she was hurt bu her lst boyfresind that she culd still luv him haha she thoughts to hrsefl wow i liek him.') Please, do NOT do that.
- I am REEEALLY striving for diverse characters; personality-wise, hobby-wise, race/gender/sexual orientation- EVERYTHING. I just want this to be a nice way for people to develop new ideas and characters and concepts and just really let their OC creating juices flow. So pardon, if I may be harsh on character forums.
- Let's keep this RP at a PG14 level; I mean you can have cussing, adult themes, and dark problems. But, let's not overdo it or make this a 'smut roleplay' or a 'emo kid roleplay.' I mean, I'm not stereotyping but I'm going to be honest: It irritates the hell out of me when there are characters that are 'Mary Sues' or 'Gary Lous.' Or they aren't multi-dimensional characters with flaws and human qualities.
- Tell me something about yourself on the top of your forum to show you read the rules, I would like input on my RPs and everything- I love getting critiques and giving advice. I mean, just connect somehow. How was your day? :big grin:

Appearance:
Name: Carson 'Crane' Reynolds, Alistair 'List' Reynolds
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Species: Human
History: Crane and List lived in a middle class family that couldn't quite cover the expenses for their more challenged child, Crane's, medical expenses. As such, he could only sometimes have the medication he needed to be 'normal' and never went to therapy. List was a mostly normal child, but fiercely protective of his brother, as their parents were rarely ever home, working long hours to provide for their family's basic needs. Having to all but raise his own sibling made him grow up too quickly, and so did the death of their parents. Both List and Crane witnessed their parents' brutal murder, and while Crane's dysfunction grew worse List only got colder and more determined. They've been chasing after the man that did it for years now and have ended up settling in New York when the trail went cold, trying to find more leads as they live their lives.
Personality: List is cold and calculating. He's smarter than the average person and perhaps might have been called a genius had he been given the chance and the right coaching. He reads people and situations extremely well so he manages to keep himself and his brother mostly out of official trouble.
Crane is unstable, to put it lightly. He has times of lucidity, so when he finally snaps and starts acting crazy he usually catches people by surprise. He doesn't perceive morals as others do and so will do most anything if he feels like it and List lets him.
Sexuality: Bi. Neither cares very much for people in general, but they have no preference for gender.
Other: To support themselves and the very small apartment they live in, they work as security at a bar, and List also sometimes bartends when needed.

Name: Nicolai Kresnov
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Species: Werewolf
History: Nicolai has always had the desire to protect people more than himself, so being a soldier wasn't something that had ever really scared him. He enlisted when he was 17 and fought for two years before coming back. His time fighting changed him, made him high strung and wary of every movement and sound, but the one time that he was off his guard he was attacked by someone who somehow knew what he was and was left to die. He was found by Crane and List who, in a rare show of generosity, helped nurse him back to health. Nicolai's stayed with them ever since, trying to help them survive, as well as trying to make them do things for their health like eat right and stop smoking and drinking. He doesn't approve of their vendetta, but loyalty and friendship make him stay anyway.
Personality: Nicolai is fiercely protective and loyal to a fault. His desire to protect others is stronger than his self-preservation, for most all cases, and he's generally a mother hen-type because of it. He does everything he can to protect those he cares about, and if he can do so he tries to make others happy as well.
Sexuality: Demisexual. Unless he loves someone, no physical action means anything. Gender doesn't factor in.
Other: He lives in the small apartment with Crane and List and accompanies them most everywhere to make sure they're safe/semi-healthy.
