Fandom Monster Hunter Interest Check (World Exploration, Character-Driven, Lore Expansion)

Sleipnir

The Eight-Legged Norse Horse
Hook
In a world full of monsters, wyverns, and dragons of all types, roaming the wilds, safety can be found nearly exclusively inside the walls and gates of villages, strongholds, and even the occasional city, scattered across the continent. Behind their walls, mankind can find refuge from the beasts which stalk the world beyond, across tundras, oceans, forests, swamps, and deserts. Few are brave enough to push through the wilderness beyond -- traders peddling goods from one village to the next, mail carriers delivering messages from one guildmaster to another, vagabonds hunting for work or a home... and of course, the hunters who slay massive beasts to ensure save passage for the rest.

For a few years now, there has been peace throughout most of the continent, as calamity after calamity has been curbed by brave hunters. And, beyond the normal quarrels with the average monster, things have been quiet.
Mostly.

Rumors of sightings of dragons have taken hold in some of the larger cities. Large and more dangerous wyverns have cast their shadows across high mountains, and tales of elder dragons and Nergigante, dragon-eaters, have begun circulating. Even so, there hasn't been a reliable sighting of the worst of such creatures just yet... only rumors and fears. Some settlements, especially larger ones, have been plagued by more frequent attacks, more monster sightings, and more trouble, all with no clear cause. Word across the roads and between villages has been that these attacks have felt targeted. Occasionally large wyverns and higher-threat monsters have been found dead by hunters riding out into the wilds, with their killer nowhere to be seen, leaving rumors, speculation, and mystery in their wake.

What's killing these monsters? What's causing these attacks? Why are they targeting these towns and cities in particular? There are questions to be answered, and surely some dangerous threat to be dispatched at the end of the trail. Will your weapon be lent to the journey to find out?

In More Detail...
I'm looking at starting a Monster Hunter roleplay, at least with a few friends, and anyone else interested in popping on in -- so fear not, there's no concerns about a minimum number of players in order to make this happen. It's definitely happening.
I love the idea of the Monster Hunter world and would love to play in the sandbox provided. My thought process is to explore various towns and villages and areas created for the game to investigate the mystery at hand, where we can create new areas and plot lines as we see fit. I have a rough idea of where the dominant story is going to go, but ultimately want to provide a lot of room for player creativity as well, so build to your heart's content. The plan here is to battle the monsters where it's relevant, sure, but I'm also very interested in creating a world, characters, and strong character interactions.

For me one of the things about Monster Hunter that's equally frustrating and fun is the disjointed lore. On one hand, it's a little confusing... on the other hand, it sure does leave us a lot of room to play!! So I'd like to do exactly that!! We can build more world as much as we want as we go. One thought I had is, as the pressure mounts and the danger comes closer, we could even toy with characters building a village of their own somewhere in the wilderness to act as a base of operations and home area.

Let's see what we get!

This is a cool idea! I've never played Monster Hunter before but I do have MH Generations for my ol' 3DS, and I really like it - despite it being confusing for beginners. I'm definitely learning as I go!

Will there be a CS template?

Once I start working on the pages for it, I plan to have a character template! I’m not looking for a specific monster hunter version here, so it’s all good! The idea’s pretty similar across the board, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Cool! Can't wait!

Ready Up!
Alright, plus me and my two already-in friends, that's about five of us, possibly six, so let's heckin go. I'll be putting up my character sheet soon as a reference, but I have a couple more errands I need to do before I sit down and put their sheet together. Here's the Character Sheet thread! Several threads have already been linked together.

We're all newbie hunters yeah?

Oh that is a solid question. We’ll be starting as moderately experienced newbies everyone should more or less know how to use their gear unless they just don’t want to, but still be fairly young adventurers in some capacity! That doesn’t mean they have to be like. SUPER young or inexperienced with the world— they do live in it, after all!

Helll yeaahhh!!!
Do we stick with one weapon? I was hoping to be capable of switching between HH and Bow if possible. If not I'm cool with HH!

I don't mind that. I plan on having Timber stick to switch-axe but I think there's enough options that people can have two weapons.

Speaking of... my character, Timber, is posted in case anyone wanted a reference!

I'd love to throw my hat into the ring if you're still looking for more players!

Please let me know if there's anything missing or wrong with my CS ^.^

Oh? You have my attention

Question, though. I've played mostly spinoff games (monster hunter stories 2 and other such oddities), and have somewhat of an affection for monster riders. Will we possibly be able to include them in the character roster?
