Fandom Monster Hunter: Aftermath

LiviathRose

Eliminating the Heart
Monster Hunter: Aftermath is based off of the Monster Hunter series in a completely different scenario and world. You are introduced to light-modern and apocalyptic settings among the already present MH settings. This is to bring a different pace and challenge that is different to familiar (and unfamiliar) players. It is not necessary to know about the Monster Hunter universe as most information will be readily available.
568768 Introduction: There was the Old World, then the New World, and now we are in the conflict of "Our" World. Each time, we all followed the same cycle of death and rebirth suffering catastrophic events only to be left to rebuild again. Rebuilding after an awaiting end with nothing but scraps and the declining able bodies. Things really never changed, the cycle still goes around but each phase, our time extends before the next catastrophic event but no one seems to complain or notice. We all know, in the end, history still repeats itself.
In recent years, the start of the cycle begun again and this time we were left in a worse economical situation than previous in recorded history. Though to be fair, again, no one was exactly prepared either. Some of the generations of our people clashed during the start of the cycle due to desperation of survival, causing Hunters and Riders to come into contact with each other after the Riders of always been rather hidden. This has caused a lot of tension among the communities, but due to the circumstances, they are learning to get along slowly. The agriculture of the land is lacking making food and herbs scarce, because of this also resulted in a decline in the monster population. Which was good and bad.
We have little options left, but we cannot stop rebuilding. Strangely, after the incident, the land is still dying. Why?

The Cycle of Generations: It is believed that a full cycle of chaos and rebirth occurs per generation. After the marked Chaos ends, it is meant the new generation begins. Each "Marked Chaos" is represented when an Elder Dragon has caused catastrophe to a generation directly or indirectly and changed the world's economic system in some way or form. Each "Cycle of Generations" has been given a name based of the Elder Dragon that caused the end of the cycle.
Fataleos: The end of the Old World happened on an unusual occurrence when a Crimson Fatalis came face to face with it's relative, the White Fatalis. The Scholars suspect there were some territorial issues among them which resulted and wildfires that lasted for months spreading far and wide. The damage impacted the economic system greatly but left mankind struggling for survival on basic needs.
Gogm'aros: The end of the New World happened similar to that of an atomic bomb when Zorah Magdaros and Gogmazios came face to face. Their fire power clashed at extremely dangerous ways. Zorah Magdaros body was used like a massive bomb against Gogmazios heated oil laser causing the most fatalities and economic change. Zorah's body remains acted like a radioactive catalyst. It is confirmed Zorah is deceased but there have been no confirmation of Gogmazios death.

Riders and Hunters: Riders have been a small hidden community of people who believed in taming and riding monster. Very few people or Hunters knew about them until the recent Gogm'aros Cycle. There are very few Riders left but doesn't mean they get special treatment. Riders and Hunters do not get along because of their differences but due to the desperate need of survival, they have come together to make ends meet. There is a very thin line between the two of them when it comes to peace and Riders have strict limitations on what they can tame and where their beasts can be present. However, it would be no surprise if a Rider has broken those rules for their own selfishness. Hunters are made up of various skilled people who used crafted weapons to hunt and kill monsters to protect their cities or gather materials. Most Hunters are proud people and are not a force to be reckoned with.

Fleets: When the New World was first discovered, there were Fleets that traveled to be part of the new discovery. The First Fleet consisted of some of the notable people to make first landing like the "Commander". However, there are no longer any survivors from the First Fleet to tell their stories of their adventures 90+ Years ago. You can still find some documents recorded by the Scholars.
The Second Fleet were the builders of the New World who crafted weapons and built the home of many during the time. There are still people from the Second Fleet but are a few in between. They were very advanced in their craftsmanship.
The Third Fleet was the brain of the New World. The Scholars who documented and studied every thing there was to study. They are still around till this day.
Forth Fleet were the "farmers" and surveyors who studied the land and ecosystem. The Forth Fleet are at a very critical time due to the changes in the ecosystem and lack of production.
The Fifth Fleet was the last to enter the New World. They were your hunters with randomized skills. They are very much present now days.

During your time in the "Aftermath", you will come across many different monsters and some may appear different from the original. Those are known as A.R.D Monster which stands for Alpha Radioactive Decay. ARD's resemble that similar to "zombies" and are extremely more dangerous than their parent genes. It is nearly impossible to get near them without suffering chronic pain without the appropriate gear. They will be stronger, faster and more aggressive than a non-ARD Monster.
Below you will find a list ranging from E - S+ on each available Monster to help you get a better idea on their challenge. Some will be listed "Extinct" as a result from the Cycle of Gogm'aros. Their original wikis will be linked to assist unfamiliar players to the Monster Hunter Universe or refresh the memory of returning players.

E = Extinct R= Rare T= Tamable
P = Passive Pa = Passive Aggressive A= Agressive
Class E is the only class that is unorganized in any specific way. This class is specifically used for the Endemic Life in the Monster Hunter Universe. Great for filler missions or "extras". This enables the player to have pets however, pets have no special skills and are relatively useless.

Some monster are considered to be just as strong if not stronger than Elder Dragons. Please study your opponent before going into the fight. Most ARD's are considered Class A. The list for ARDs are separated. **Class A Monsters are only tamable through a permit and for the most proficient Riders.**

Any Monster listed as an S+ Class is being referred to as an Elder Dragon. They are not easily taken down and can cause significant damage. Elder Dragons are the reason of the "Cycle of Generations". Some Elder Dragons are no longer living due to an unfortunate circumstance, while others are in hiding until the "Mark of Chaos" begins. No hunter is to take an Elder Dragon on alone. Elder Dragon missions are only commenced by the GM. Sightings can be initiated by anyone. Elder Dragons are not tamable!

  • You are a "Child of the Fleet" meaning you were an offspring from one of the original Fleets (1 - 5). Realistically, the earlier the Fleet you choose to be from, the older you are. Child of the First Fleet cannot be younger than 30. Child of the Fifth Fleet cannot be older than 30. (With Exceptions).
    • Riders are not from a Fleet. They all originate from the same hidden village known as; Wanunuzi.
    • Some Riders may be outcast and not participate in the Village but will come with very difficult challenges.
  • Based on the Fleet you choose, you naturally have the skills based off the Fleet Parent. However, you are free to pursue whatever occupation you desire. Example: If you are a Child of the Third Fleet but chose to be a Hunter, you are more knowledgeable of a Monsters weak points or more knowledgeable of your surroundings.
  • All Characters have one primary weapon of their choosing and are able to choose a secondary. However, they cannot carry both weapons in the field. Choose based on your situation and your current team.
    • Proficiency is based on a 0/100 scale. If you chose to have a Primary and a Secondary, an example: Primary = 60% Secondary = 40%.
    • A primary must always equal more than the secondary equaling out to 100. If you chose to only have a primary weapon, you are naturally at 100% proficiency.
  • You are able to make more than one character with only one Rider. Please be sure you know how to balance your characters. Hunters must outweigh Riders due to their small population.
  • All Tamed Monsters by Riders only have one special skill. You can choose a different Monster at anytime within probable cause. Doing so will eliminate your current by death or release. Same species of monster can have different skills. Your Monsters skills (except special) are based off of natural abilities. This prevents OP Monsters. Each tamable Monster have restrictions (pro/con) which you can find provided shortly. You may also use this list to choose your tamed monster.
    • All tamed monsters cannot enter cities/villages. You can only use or ride your tamed monster on the field.
5284368.png

To keep order and keep all Hunters and Riders safe, each one are given ranks while Riders are given Permits in addition. Permits are what allow Riders to tame higher rank monsters. Below, you will see the basic idea between both and what it takes to rank up. Ranks are similar to the Monster Classes.

Rank 1E - The Starting Rank for all Hunters and Riders just starting out. This is also the only rank pure Scholars and Scientists can aquire. Meaning they cannot go out on the field without escort in higher ranks.
  • Requirements: None
Rank 1D - Allows Hunters/Riders to Hunt Class D Monsters.
  • Requirements: 3 (1E) Missions or 1 (1E) Escort.
Rank 2D
  • Requirements: 3 Class D Missions
Rank 3D - Final Step before ranking up to Rank C.
  • Requirements: 5 Class D Missions
*Permit D - Standard Permit for all Starting Riders
  • Requirements: None
Rank 1C - Allows Hunters/Riders to Hunt Class C Monsters.
  • Requirements: 8 Class D Missions, Supervised Rank C Test.
Rank 2C
  • Requirements: 5 Class C Missions
Rank 3C
  • Requirements: 8 Class C Missions
Rank 4C
  • Requirements: 12 Class C Missions
Rank 5C
  • Requirements: 15 Class C Missions
*Permit C - Allows to tame Class C Monsters
  • Requirements: 2 Previous Tames, Class C Training with Supervisor.
Rank 1B - Allows Hunters/Riders to hunt Class B Monsters
  • Requirements: Supervised Rank B Test
Rank 2B
  • Requirements: 20 Class B Missions
Rank 3B

Rank S - Allows Hunters/Riders to hunt Elder Dragons
  • Requirements: 3 Supervised Class S Missions
Rank SS
  • Requirements: 10 Class S+ Missions

As a Hunter or Rider, you know that you cannot live without hunting down those big monsters. The main reason behind hunting (and gathering) is to bring back meat, materials (like leather) and boast about your accomplishments. However, everyone knows that some point in your life, you're going to need a friend or two.
Below is a list of "Named" groups which are hunters who have made a name for themselves together. However, does not mean they can't work with other people.

In order to create a Named Group, your group must contain at least two members with one being the Handler. A group can be no more than four and a Max of one Rider.
Requirements:
  1. Name of Group
  2. Members of Group Starting with a Leader if one is chosen, followed by the Handler.
    1. List their Name, Primary Weapons, and Tame if Applicable.
  3. Type of Group
    1. Gatherers, Hunters (Class E-S+), Scholars, etc.
**A Handler is someone who handles the questing and information sources. However, they are able to be Hunters or Gatherers if they decide to do so. They are less-often seen as Leaders.

Established Groups:
WIP (Waiting on Players)

Open Groups:
Upepo wa Uhuru (Wind of Freedom)
  • Leader: Kichi Anaba (Rider) / Insect Glaive / Slicemargl
WIP (Waiting on Players)

Welcome home Child of the Fleet! Unfortunately, things have changed to what you are use to and each day is a new challenge. I know it is not what you had in mind for your life, but we were unfortunate to suffer the Mark of Chaos. However, think of it like this. We now have the honor to create something better from the ground up. Here, let me show you around and refresh that memory of yours.
Near the entrance of our "village", on the outside, is the Rider's Sanctuary. It's where they keep their tames while they are inside the village walls since their tames are not allowed inside. Never been an issue of over-boarding, but that may be because there are not that many Riders left. Heard there were still some out there though that's not part of the community. There is still a lot of tension between Riders and Hunters, so if you can, stay out of trouble. I don't recommend going there unless you're a rider. It would look a little odd and people talk.
Once you get inside, you're introduced to some small vendors who try to catch Hunters or Riders before they leave but they carry just your basic needs. If you want the good stuff, you have to go deeper into the village. Then you have the Outer Barracks which home our Hunters (and Riders) that just stay inside the village and protect it from outside threat. They tend to like the home-life more than the adventure life, or so I have always thought. I heard a lot of the newer Hunters stay here too. Next to the Outer Barracks is the Kelbi Café. Serves just about anything you can think when they have the supplies. They encourage Hunters and Riders to bring their own ingredients though so they can still serve the common people. You know, things are tough now days.
Further back, towards the middle, is where the Elder Marketplace happens. All your weapons, armors and hard to find goods can be found here (as long as they have it). There's a Smithy too. A lot of the common homes are here as well for our non-hunters. Nothing special. Many of them are simple huts as it is only what we could afford with the limited materials we have. It's a very busy area!
Now, towards the end of the Village is the spot for a lot of the training grounds, gathering for people pairing up and so forth. There's not much too it actually, but they decided it would be best to keep the Hunters and Riders away from the common people. Couldn't even tell you why at this point though. Well, enjoy! Make the best of it!

Personality: Often giving the silent treatment, Kichi is not someone to mess with and does not hesitate playing the role of "karma". Kichi has been in the village since the rebuild and knows how tough some of the Hunters can be. Thus, she will shut someone's mouth as quickly as they open it. Though she is generally more friendlier to other Riders and people she has made relationships with. Kichi has great leadership skills and will look out for her allies or her fellow "Upepo wa Uhuru" members. When someone has reached her core, she turns out to be rather open and enjoys a good laugh.

Backstory: Kichi arrived to the Village created from the remains of Astera with her Tribe Leader, Garu, and a few other members from their Tribe. Garu managed to come to terms with the Hunters there as they both agreed to set their differences aside in the sake of survival. During this time, Kichi built the Stables for her fellow Riders, giving them a safe place for their tames and offered to train the willing. Eventually, Garu passed away leaving Kichi Anaba the next kin for the remaining Tribe to look up to in guidance.
Not much time has passed since these events leaving her a little "cold" towards others but has proved her worth in the Village. When she is not tending to the Stable or on hunts, she is often found having a few drinks with some of her fellow mates. Her tame; Slicemargl has been with her since the explosion creating a strong bond.

Thank you for being interested! The Monster List and Tamable are still being worked on at this time. (If you want to be a rider and had a monster not listed yet in question, just ask. )Everything else is finished for the most part. Please ask questions. Your questions and ideas could help develop the RP further! This is my fourth day working on this, so I am sure there is something missing.

I'm really interested in this as a concept- but I have to shamefully admit I've never played Monster Hunter! I have an idea for a character, who would unfortunately be a Rider (the characters that would be Hunters are already in other RPs), but of course I don't know how much of her I would have to adjust to be eligible! If you have room for a noobie like me, I'd be quite interested. :)

Hey DapperCat! You don't need any experience with MH as most of the information will be provided. I am still smoothing out some things to make it more understandable to new players and the weapon/armor system will not relate to the game. That way it is easier to understand. I'll be working on CS Templates shortly for people. Till then, I am trying to see how many interests I get and how much I will have to adjust based on player numbers. Any questions, you are free to ask!

No rush, really! I know how difficult setting an RP up can be. :D I think there's one question I know I need to ask, is a hermit-like Rider a possibility? I don't know much about Riders, so it may be a dumb question!

No questions is ever dumb. But what do you mean "hermit-like"?

Well, I have a character that is essentially a hermit. She lives in woodlands, alone, and has perhaps gone /mildly/ insane- (okay quite a bit) due to seclusion and only speaks to animals, and in this case, monsters, critters. She's grown used to the company of wildlife, not humanoid life! In her usual lore at least.

EDIT: Dear lord forgive the amount of comma's. It's quite late here. ._.
EDIT 2 HAHA: Of course the animals don't talk back. Though she thinks they do. Insanity and all.

That is fine. However, please note that being alone in woodlands without connecting your character to the Village in someway will put them at risk. Not only is it very dangerous just being out on your own in a decaying land, but Hunters and other Riders might target you as hostile. Hunters may automatically attack due to the tension between differences and realize you are rouge essentially. I would try to connect them to the village in someway if you don't want to challenge yourself in that way. Have connections with people from the Village, or be a supplier of sorts. I am creating the Stable Trainer for riders at the moment. You could connect yourself to her if you don't have any other ideas.

That wouldn't be an issue! Perhaps she has recently come to live just outside of the village. I don't know if her having lived in the woods alone for a while before-hand would be an issue backstory-wise? But her little patch of grass and trees may have been found out and now she feels pressured to move to more safety, AKA, the village. Albeit reluctantly. Please let me know if anything sounds non-fitting. ^^

That is all fine. If you want to send me CS before the template is finished, I can help you shape it to the template and explain things where there may be confusion.

I'll wait for the CS! I don't mind editing wherever you see fit. And if it would end up with her not being herself anymore (which hasn't happened to me yet in forum RPs adjusting OC's to lore so!) then I can always re-evaluate and see what to do next. :D

Quite late here but I will be looking at it and maybe filling it in tomorrow! One little question; 'Tame'. I suppose this means each character gets 1 monster that is like their companion?
"Tame" refers to the Riders Monster Companion. ONLY Riders can have this. Your Tame's Rank must match yours if not lower. You can always change your tame later in the story as death is possible for them, or simply just releasing them for something better.

Gotcha! Well she was planned to be a Rider. And low level is no issue, I'll look through it and fill it in asap. :D Thank you ^^
