Miscellaneous:
These roles aren't necessarily a requirement, but would add more flavour/drive to the story in mind. The roles that aren't filled will be taken by an NPC played by me to drive the story along.
Each role here will have certain traits/are allowed key pieces of information that can either aid you or bring you closer to madness depending on how you play that role. The role limit is more akin to what my ideal amount of that said character within the story but multiple of the same role can be taken, just needs some discussion and slight tweaks to future plot points.
Legacy Students (1/3)
These are students that descend from a consecutive line of Miskatonic alumni. Majors can be changed, these roles are more of a reference to the Dunwich Horror.
โข [character name] Armitage, a senior Ancient History major with a fascination for the past. Descendant of Dr. Henry Armitage, the former Chief Librarian at Miskatonic.
โข Alistair Everett Rice, a junior Classical Languages major. Descendant of Warren Rice, a former professor at Miskatonic. TAKEN.
โข [character name] Morgan, a sophomore Chemistry (organic chemistry/biochem) major. A descendant of Francis Morgan, a former professor at Miskatonic. This role in particular comes with a twin/sibling NPC I'll play as (or you could if you wish) for narrative reasons.
Miskatonic Memoirs Member (1/1) โ Prince F. Dupin
A member of a new clubโa student-run blog/newspaper for the student body to keep up with the latest ongoings of MU. For better plot involvement, would recommend them to focus on more of paranormal documentation. Think the Lovecraft Investigations/Ghost Files type of work. With a penchant for digging their noses into all things weird and whacky, they're bound to find it.
The International Student (1/1) โ Bruce Robert Smith
A student, for story reasons, hails from Australia and received a full-ride scholarship to Miskatonic. Why? This student doesn't know either. Their journey to Arkham began with a wax-sealed envelope with a letter of acceptance from MU, alongside a full-ride scholarship with their course of choice as well as fully paid for class materials as well as housing for the duration of their course at the dormitories. Will they investigate into the reason of this peculiarly generous offer or take it as a strange stroke of luck?
For when you decide where to house your character.
Notable Locations:
Orne Library
A large library that boasts its collection of rare books and tomes. In its oldest wing, there's a study room that seemed to be always taken, under lock and key.Miskatonic Museum
Like Orne Library, the university's museum prides itself on its rare collection, all from various expeditions that have taken place over the years since the university's founding.
Baudelaire College Dormitory
A co-ed student accomodation that provides meals served in the dining hall three times a day, provides security, and weekly activities for its tenants. A popular choice amongst international students and non-locals. Located on-campus, it's the ideal housing for the academically-focused.Carmine Books
Located along the river in Arkham's Merchant District, Carmine Books serves as Arkham's oldest books dealership, run by Carmine Mannheim II. This 3rd generation storeowner was formerly an antiquarian based in London before settling down in Arkham with his two children, running the bookstore together after taking over his father's place. A popular place for students to find textbooks secondhand.Finch Hall Dormitory
Finch Hall serves as a female-only dorm on-campus. Not as as glamorous as Baudelaire College, not having as strong security and extra amenities, but serves well as solely housing without the extras.Swift Hall Dormitory
Swift Hall serves as a male-only dorm on-campus. Not as as glamorous as Baudelaire College, not having as strong security and extra amenities, but serves well as solely housing without the extras.Coffee Pals
A cafe a block away from MU owned by a local named Darwin "Pal" Palethorpe. Also nicknamed โPalโs.โ While not MU alumni, he has an immense admiration of the university, and would lament to his regulars about how he failed to meet requirements for admission. A popular spot for students and faculty to meet and work thanks to the cafe being open 24/7 as well as the free and decent wifi.Zeiss & Sons Laundromat
A laundromat within the Merchant District thatโs open 24/7 and student friendlyโproviding surprisingly contemporary vending machines that has both hot and cold food and drinks (Mr. Zeiss had specifically ordered from Japan after a visit there.) Frequented by many low-income students that are unable to afford food.Oleander Manor
Key & Tomeโs residence that also acts as their office. Donated to them by one of their members. Located between the University District and French Hill. The Tav
MUโs tavern frequented by students and faculty. The Sinking Ship
A seedy dive bar within downtown Arkham.
Full Name: Ophelia "Helia" Mannheim
Role (if applicable): NPC
Course & Year: 2nd Year Fine Arts
Age: 23
Sex: Female
Residence: 7 E. Main Street, Merchant District, a studio (which is actually an attic) above a bookstore.
Physical Description: Helia stands at just 5' but sustains a compact figure with some slight curves, always dressed in earthy tones. Unless she's studying, she won't be seen without her wire-framed glasses and bangs neatly combed. A light dusting of freckles occupy her nose and cheeks. Her skin is almost a sickly sallow which contrasts with her snarky smirks and chortling. Her dark brown hair falls in light waves and reaches just under her underarms and is kept loose.
Occupation: Sales Assistant at Carmine Books
Full Name: Warner Vicario
Role (if applicable): NPC
Course & Year: 3rd Year Ancient History
Age: 24
Sex: Male
Residence: Baudelaire College Dormitory, University District, Arkham.
Physical Description: A lean stature that stands at 5'11" with a perpetually solemn expression, Warner would strike most as a snob who thinks anyone isn't worth his time. Most would be surprised he keeps himself well considering how much he's seen at Orne Library at the same study room all year round, dressed head to toe in borderline formal wear. His definition of casual are slacks, a cable knit sweater and a white turtleneck underneath with Oxfords as his footwear.

Role (if applicable): NPC

Physical Description: Freddy stands a little taller than his twin, being 5โ10โ and is more muscular than her under his baggy/ill-fitting apparel. His hair is similar to his twin, but not as brushed back and keeps it in loose curls. Has the signature Morgan youthful appearance, with large, dark and gentle eyes and sports a grin that de-ages Freddy. But from his motherโs side, he inherited his angular face, cleft chin, aquiline nose and tan skin.
Occupation: Barista at Palโs.
Full Name: Fay Velasquez Morgan

Course & Year: 2nd Year Chemistry (Biochem)

She keeps her curly hair cut short with barely any accessories, brushing her hair back. Sheโs always seen with makeup, always done well along with statement earrings but otherwise, keeps light on accessories. Never usually seen in skirts or dresses and prefers tailored slacks or wide trousers, suiting her ambitious and domineering personality.
Occupation: Nanny
Radio Riverside
MU's student-run radio show which was created by the A/V club and frequently collaborates with the Miskatonic Memoirs.
Miskatonic Memoirs
The university's new student-run newspaper. There have been predecessors of a student paper since MUโs early days but theyโve all shut down overtime, only for a new paper to be formed and history repeats.Miskatonic Student Government
Unlike the States' nationwide student governing organisation, the America Student Government Association, MU decided to remain independent from other institutions and form its own student government. The student government looks after matters such as events, club funding, and advocating for the student body and frequently communicates with the faculty. No club can officially form unless it passes approval from the student government or receive funding unless approved by all officers from the said government.Key & Tome Society
Key & Tome is MUโs undergraduate senior society, its members made up of rising students and backed by notable MU alumni whoโve found immense success after graduating. Known for their charity events and large revelries but exclusive membership, most are wishing to join but never do. Many donโt even know how they choose their members.
Q. Whatโs the time period of the setting?
A. Our current time, but Arkham itself is such a backwater town itโs behind technology-wise.Q. How much does the students/faculty and the general public know about Arkham and MU and their weirdness?
A. As far as anyone knows, MU is on par with the rest of the Ivy Leaguesโ education and prestige, albeit still not as widely known overseas. Theyโre known for their rare collection of texts and a wonderfully brilliant (but sometimes odd) faculty as well as the veil of local folklore and urban legends that soaks MU and Arkham with an eerie atmosphere. Other than its spooky small town appearance, nothingโs out of place, unless one looks closer.Q. Whatโs the age range for our characters?
A. Mid to early 20s.Q. Whatโs the storyโs content going to be like?
A. Thereโll be 18+ themes mentioned, and given the vibe, definitely some macabre descriptions involved.
*Except for The Miskatonic Memoirs, which is solely for the role set. Feel free to ask me for suggestions/possibilities.
**Try to keep it as grounded as possible, an ambiguous experience that isnโt quite a confirmation nor a disproof of the existence of the weird and otherworldly.
Please use only real face claims, and feel free to ask me anything below. Iโll answer as best as I can.
P.S. Please ignore the mapโs street names, theyโre a bit too on the nose haha.
