"Growf!"
A daughter’s anger,
A daughter’s heart,
Shall tear the Kingdom apart.
A daughter’s anger,
A daughter’s love,
Gifted with all the Power Above.
Little girl lost
Shattered glass
Restore to throne
Right at last.
Prologue
Once Upon a Time … Isn’t that how these tales always begin? Yes, once there was an infant girl. She was found at the doorsteps of Child Protective Services. At least they didn’t have to look very far. How so very thoughtful of whatever cretin left her there. But I digress.
The infant girl was taken in, weighed, measured and found wanting - of a home that is. Sadly, some would say - not I, but some - there was noone to adopt her. Though on reflection, perhaps it might have been better if there HAD been. Then there wouldn’t have been all the fuss and upsetting of the status quo. She was instead placed in a foster home. Then she was placed in another, then another, and another. Time and again she was told that there was noone who wanted her. But then who would want such a brat?
As the child grew older, the foster care grew worse. Time and again she suffered at the hands of her foster families - or their neglect. Finally it became intolerable and she struck out on her own.
Delightful story, isn’t it? Well, almost.
For all the ill treatment she had received our young woman never lost the good in her soul. Oh, she might pilfer something to get food to eat, but she would as quickly share her good fortune with a homeless family.
I think I am going to throw up.
Then one day, our young woman awoke in the middle of a forest. That forest was MY kingdom. I worked very hard for it. The people were loyal to me. Because if they weren’t … But then SHE came along and filled their heads with all manner of lies and nonsense.
The Plot
This is a basic fairy tale in which a girl from the 21st century finds herself in a fairy tale kingdom ruled by a dark queen. Everywhere she goes she finds the people are downtrodden, often enslaved. Most simply can’t be trusted because they are so poor that they will betray you for any sum of money that eases their next moment of life - or earns them a way to avoid certain death.
But she will also soon learn that - for no reason at all - there is a price on her head.
She will also soon learn that - for no reason at all - there is a price on her head. Somewhere along the way our young girl must find loyal followers, friends who will not betray no matter the cost or offer. She will have to face the wrath of the Dark Queen and make a place for herself. In short, she must lead a rebellion.
Characters
Blank CS
I am actually looking for serious characters. While comedy is wonderful, this RP had tags for Gritty and Violent. It is, after all, based on a tragedy. Some of these characters will meet a tragic end and NOT live so happily ever after.
These lists are not necessarily complete. In fact, I can already think of some I forgot. Has to be a Prince in this story somewhere, right? There will be secrets about The Girl that will be revealed in the roleplay. For one thing, she may discover she has … innate powers. You see, she has finally come … home.
The Girl - pretty self explanatory. I am going to suggest age 16-18, street savvy. (I am NOT stuck on the backstory, but PM me if you plan to run this slot. I am not stuck on the age either, but I DO want her fairy tale young - as in something her Prince will be drawn to.)
The Seven Dwarves - not stuck on the number. These could be thieves, slaves, whatever, but of diminutive stature. Let’s keep the number at least 5. And the names can be original. I would PREFER originality.
Three Bears - Yep … you guessed it. A family of bears. Of course they can talk. This is a fairy tale. But, be creative. This family COULD have some skills. Maybe they got evicted from their home - and it was just right, darn it. And again, I am not stuck on the number three. Maybe there is a younger kid born after the one in the old fairy tale.
Three Pigs - by now I think you get the picture. Pigs. They talk … yeah. At least by now they have learned the lesson about using bricks. Classic, but even I have to admit, maybe not the best suited for this RP. Still, they are a classic fairy tale.
Red Riding Hood, Granny, Wolf - I am a fan of Hoodwinked, so bring them on. Yes, the squirrel too if you wish. Or, you can go all dark and gritty and use the version from the TV series Once Upon a Time, or just be original. I will be posting some suggested images that could go very well with the darker genre.
Robin Hood and the Merry Men - be creative, but remember Robin is NOT the hero of the story, just one of them.
Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion - these will be the characters years AFTER the wizard helped them. One option for them is to have them serving the Queen instead.
Enemies
The enemies here are - complicated. I have some specific plans for some, limitations placed on others. Some could switch sides. Some are being coerced. Some are Cursed. Some you better not turn your back on if you hope to trust them. A few I may turn over to some of you to run. But do NOT betray the Dark Queen or it will be the last thing you do - if she catches you. (Good way to find yourself with wings, fur, and a hankering for bananas.)
Goldilocks - B&E specialist
Puss in Boots - thief, pirate, rogue. “Pirate? That means water. No way! And it is a dashing rogue!”
Gaston
Captain Hook
Sheriff of Nottingham and Sir Guy
Winged Monkeys
Wizard of Oz
Magic Mirror
Posts
Given the number of characters I am trying to draw in, I will be relaxing the demand for post length. I usually shoot for 500+ words, which is nice and all, but not practical for every post. I will likely hit 500+ words myself, but don’t expect that of others.
I DO expect decent spelling and grammar, third person past tense. (I am not going to grade you. Not a grammar Nazi.)
Please make sure we know what character is active in your posts. A thumbnail of your character wouldn’t hurt. There will be a lot of characters to search through otherwise to figure out who you are.
