Fantasy Midnight Howl - IC

F0XTR0T

More Than a Simple Two Step
Midnight Howl
The suburban town of Montarry is of a moderate population, although incredibly mundane to a small group of four to-be seniors who want to live a little before the rush of their school year and life finally takes hold. And so what better idea than to sneak out to the nearby woods, ignoring the large fences and posted no trespassing signs to try and see what the big deal is.

It was officially the second week of their final summer, the Friday that the group had decided not only to have a little fun, but kick off their three months with quite the bang.

The nearby woods had been off limits to trespassers as far as any of them could remember with no knowledge on the true owners. Many residence of Montarry assumed them to have left long ago or died, leaving the large swaths of protected land to the city . Others were much more skeptical, claiming it to be an acient burial ground and haunted by restless spirits or something of the sort.

Alex didn't buy any of it.

She assumed it to just be another patch of trees that was good for a nice little scare for the group that had hung together since the 5th grade. Every year they spoke about going, but in the past either parents or one among them was forceful enough to keep them home or drag them to a movie. But not tonight. Definitely not tonight. At the end of the year, they were most likely never going to see each other again, or at the very least it would be a long enough time before it occurred. And so with enough begging, pleading, and promising that flashlights would be brought, the more frightful of them caved and agreed to the little excursion.

A stupid grin was plastered upon the young woman's face as she jogged over to the streetlamp the five of them normally met at. Briefly checking her cellphone before it was shoved into her pocket, only a few minutes to midnight on a full moon. Priceless. After they got back with nothing more than a few bug bites, she was sure that her younger siblings would be terrified at the story she could whip of up to tell them even though it was way past their bedtime.

Leaning on the lamp post with a steel flashlight in hand, she tucked a loose strand of dyed hair behind her ear as she waited for the others to arrive. If they bailed on her now, not only would it disappoint but most likely cement the fact that they would never have a chance to do this again in the future.

So here's to hoping...

Krystal Charleston

The air was humid, making sweat run down her face. As she walked down the sidewalk, alternating between the shadows of night and the street lights, Krystal couldn't believe she'd been talked or rather, tricked into doing this through the promise of flashlights.

She knew she shouldn't have given in to peer pressure, even if it was with the bunch of friends she had had known since fifth grade. This whole thing was stupid, dangerous, and not to mention reckless on so many levels. Yes they were almost all adults. Yes this little outing had been talked among them for years, but Krystal had never expected that it would actually, finally, happen. She just didn't. She was, perhaps unsurprisingly, scared. Various questions and scenarios raced through her mind. What if something happened, or even worse they got caught trespassing on forbidden land? What if all their parents freaked once they noticed their children were no longer in their beds? Krystal was concerned what her mother hen of a mom would do if and when the woman found out. After all, Krystal had no idea how long this "adventure" of sorts would last into the night.

And yet Krystal had still done it. She had sneaked out. She had always been a well behaved child for the most part, always doing what her parents had asked of her, trying her hardest in school, and never getting into trouble, but now of this moment? Not so much. It hadn't been hard to sneak out of the house as her parents were heavy sleepers, she managed to step through the house silently and unlocked the door before slipping out into the night without any problems. It had been easy-

The sudden sound of something in a nearby garbage can made her heart stop, halting her reverie. Stopping in her tracks for a moment, she squinted, only relaxing slightly when she saw a furry little head pop out. Oh. It's just a cat. She continued walking, her stomach in knots. She sighed, running a hand through her red locks. She had to admit she was a little curious, her ever imagining mind getting the best of her. She really had read too many mystery novels. There was even a tiny part of her that was happy as well to do something else with her friends, as it was becoming harder and harder to hang out little by little as the years passed. Before they knew it, they all would be graduating high school, moving on to college or wherever. Krystal knew she was lucky to have friends such as them, but to this day she wasn't sure what on earth they saw in her as a friend. She was timid, nervous, even sometimes paranoid. How they could put up with it was a mystery.

Turning a corner, she came face to face with a shock of (dyed) teal hair and eyes filled with excitement under a streetlamp. Alex. Biting her lip, Krystal tried to calm herself. She shook her head, "I still can't b...believe we're doing this." She admitted to the other girl, absently pulling at her sleeves as she waited for a response.

Zachary winced as his bedroom door creaked closed behind him and the noise echoed through the upstairs hallways. He paused, listening for any sign of stirring from his parents' or brother's bedrooms. After waiting for a few seconds he released a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. Looks like the coast was clear. As he gripped the flashlight that he'd promised his friends a million times to take with him on their little excursion, he pulled his phone out of his jean pocket and checked the time.

11:50. 10 minutes to midnight. That should give him enough time to get to their usual meeting place and still have time to spare.

I still don't understand why I have to take this damned flashlight, Zach thought as he shoved his phone back into his pocket and started towards the staircase. It's not like there's anything dangerous in those woods anyway. But whatever makes them feel safe I guess. He slowed his pace as he began to descend the stairwell, walking on light feet as to prevent the stairs from groaning with each step he took. When he reached the bottom he went immediately to the front door and exited his house, locking the door behind him with the extra key he had. Then, he began his leisurely stroll to the light post he'd been to many time before.

Zach was in no rush to get the night over with. No rush at all. This was the last summer he'd get to spend with his childhood friends until who knew when. Maybe they'd never see each other again after their senior year was over. Zachary shook his head when feelings of nostalgia settled in his stomach as he recalled the countless nights he and his friends had spent together in the past. Always laughing and having fun, catching fireflies on those warm summer nights with not a care in the world. He missed those days.

Ugh, snap out of it Zach. You've still got time to make more memories before we go our separate ways. Summer's not over yet. Taking a deep breath, Zach rounded the final corner to their meeting place, enjoying the cool, gentle summer breeze that blew. As he approached the oh-so-familiar streetlight, Zach was surprised to find Alex and Krystal already standing underneath the occasionally flickering light. Alex's teal dyed hair and Krystal's almost constant nervous stance were impossible to miss. Thought I was finally gonna be the first one to arrive, but I guess not, Zach thought to himself.

"Yo, Alex, Krystal," he called out, lifting a hand in greeting. "You two are early. I thought I'd be the first one to arrive for once," he said as he came to a stop next to Krystal.

Earlier, Alex had texted her telling her that they should go to the forest. The forest, a place Alena doesn't mind taking a hike in, just not the forest that Alex suggested. Alena had heard many different stories about what happens in that forest and those who go in never come back. Alena didn't know if she wanted to jeopardize her life by going into a forest that was not meant to be entered.

Alena got out of bed, she let out a soft sigh as she walked to the bathroom that was in her room. Alena took a nice hot shower before she got ready to face death in that forest. Alena thought that since she is going to face death, she might as well be clean. Alena got out and dried herself off before returning back to her room and changing into comfortable attire. Alena was going to regret going to these parts of the woods, but if she backed out now, she would be viewed as a chicken. Alena still had an hour before she would leave to meet up with them. Alena didn't like sneaking out of the house, but it wouldn't be sneaking out if she told her mom that she was going to Alex's house for a sleepover. Alena's mom was overprotective of her, and she had every right to be. Even though Alena was innocent, followed the rules, her mother still viewed her as a little girl and wanted to protect that little girl at all cost.

Alena has a brother who is in his second year of college, which isn't so bad, but when it's just her and her mother at home it gets pretty quiet. Alena is usually the one who has always stuck alone at home since her mother works late and often times goes on business trips once a month.

Alena decided to wear a white tank top that covered her stomach but whenever she would reach up, her belly button would show since the tank would rise up just slightly. With that, she put on a good pair of blue jeans and her good running sneakers. Alena dried her hair just slightly, but she left it a bit damp, it was hot out. When Alena finished getting ready, she had about two minutes before she left the house. She went to the kitchen, she grabbed her backpack on the way downstairs. She took two apples, a small knife, four granolas and two water bottles. She also took the small bandage kit and her jacket and left the house. Alena was always that one friend in the group that was always prepared and plus she never liked going hungry.

Alena took the easiest shortcut to where they had said that they were going to meet. Alena felt emotional on her way there, but she never showed it. When she got there, she saw a teal dyed hair which caught her by surprise and she saw the other two girls and Zachary. Looks like we're missing one more before we leave. Alena felt a bit underdressed, but she didn't want to be too hot. Alena went over to Alex and Krystal and gave them a hug. "Hey," Alena said as she hugged them and then turned to face Zachary.

Even though Zachary was a part of the group, she still seemed to make a fool of herself. Alena couldn't talk to guys for her life. She didn't know why, but she was terrible at it. She seemed to always have trouble talking to Zachary. He always put up this tough wall and for Alena, she respects everyone's space, but with Zachary, she can't help but look a fool in front of him so she never says anything. Maybe it's because she likes him but doesn't want to admit it.

Alena was the baby of the group, she was seventeen while the others were eighteen or nineteen. Alena ran her hand through her hair as there was a slight silence between her and Zachary before she turned to Alex and examined her new hair. "I like what you've done to your hair Alex. Bold move," Alena said as she complimented her.

Tom woke up reasonably late around five i ties late to be exact, he wasn't one for time keeping and he wansnt one to care for it either. His parent had gone to bed along with his little sister yet being silent wasn't one of his virtues. Rummaging round his room for clothes that weren't so dirty he found a long trench coat and some casual clothes. Chucking them on he walk out his room and into the kitchen wheee he picked up his backup and walked to the fridge. Beer. Beer is what he needed but also what he wanted. With a few bottles in his bag he swiftly made his was toward the front door before stopping suddenly as he was confronted by a pyjama monster.

"Where are you going tommy.." the small but innocent voice said. Tom could'nt help but smile at the little sister covered in her blanket and her teddy in her hand. Ruffling her hair he smiled to her before crouching down to her. "I'm just leaving the house for a bit. Remember how I'm leaving soon? Well I'm saying good bye to all my friends, you know how lovely they are." His heart strings always pulled when telling white lies to his sister but it couldn't be helped and taking a breath he made his way out the door. She was the only person in the world that he worried about endlessly, yet that wasn't going to stop him from having a good night.

Quick hop and Tom made his way over to his bike. Putting the key in he turned on the engine and off he went blitzing it down he road. The thrill of a motorbike was what he lived for. The rush of not knowing what will happen but life speeding past like a gullet from a gun. He was never one for being quiet and the bike did just the thing. It didn't take him long before he park it up and began strolling toward the meeting place without it. Seeing the group in his eye sight, he admired them all for a second. Each and every one of them. None of them would he ever forget or wish to for that matter.

"The party has arrived!" Bellowing his voice across to them, a sort of 'swagger' in his walk he bounded acrosss the path towards them. Shinning white teeth smiled at them as he pulled out a bottle from his bag and popped it open. He was roaring to go, ready for a night he wouldn't forget with the friends he wanted to keep forever.

Thankfully, people began to arrive.

First, Krystal approached being her old nervous self. As she marveled that they were actually doing this, Alex gave her a a brief excited nod with a small grin. "It's about time we did."

Second, Zach walked up with a wave, musing that he thought he was gonna be the first to arrive for once. "Do you really think I would be late for this?" She chuckled, still clearly brimming with anticipation.

Next, Alena hugged both her and Krystal before complementing her hair. Raising an eye brow, she responded "Thanks... but you know I've been talking about doing this all school year. Just haven't been able to due to the damn dress code." The girl gave her head a gentle shake, her loose real ponytail swaying lightly for emphasis.

Tom was last to arrive, a bottle of bear in clear view. With a sigh she walked over to him and tried to ease it out of his hand. "If we do end up getting caught, I'm sure the cops would go much easier on us if underaged drinking wasn't involved."

Once everyone was ready, she gestured down the road, everyone beginning to follow her energetic lead as they neared the edge of the woods. Soon the chain-clad gate came into view, the faded "No Trespassing" sign casting an intimidating air about the group. Seeing as there wasn't a way through, she wedged her flashlight between her jaw and carefully scaled the four-foot iron gate, landing softly on the other side while turning on her light.

Once everyone had gotten across, they began to follow the trail deeper. At first, nothing was out of place from a normal swath of woodlands. Alex cast a glance towards the group, the smile upon her lips not having left this whole time. "There isn't anything out here, so I'm not sure what you're all so worried about."

The red head couldn't help but smile a little at the other girl's words, Alex's excitement was contagious, even though Krystal's stomach was still churning. "I guess..." She replied, looking down for a moment as she added, "I just hope we d...don't get in trouble for this." The second she said it, she winced. "S..sorry. I don't mean do be a downer...it's just...." She then gestured in the direction of where they were going as she thought of the NO TRESPASSING sign, trying to convey her feelings.

As she noticed a suddenly very interesting speck of dirt on the sidewalk, Krystal heard a familiar voice. Out of the corner of her eye a young man with slicked back brown hair approached her and Alex hand up in greeting. "Hey Zach." Krystal said after Alex had spoken, turning to face him as she gave an awkward wave and nervous smile. "Nice to see you too."

Then Alena arrived with hugs, complementing on the other girl's hair. Krystal giggled softly as she returned the greeting, finding some amusement in the fact she hadn't commented on Alex's hair herself with she had first arrived, but now that she thought about it, it seemed so Alex like. She couldn't blame the teal haired girl for hating the school dress code, even though she had had hardly any problems with it, not being one to try something new too often. More than once, Alex and Alena had dragged her to the mall for a shopping trip.

Last came Tom, and as always he had a swagger in his walk, perhaps unsurprisingly a bottle of beer in plain view. Krystal tried to hide her distaste for the stuff, never really understanding what the thrill was or having the urge to break the rules. Even so, she admired him for his guts all the same. She always had.

With all of them now here, Alex, a bounce practically in her step, led the way to the old rusted gate and climbed over it. Krystal sighed, hesitating. Here goes nothing. Swallowing, she began the climb herself, moving as quickly as she could, the metal creaking under her weight. Even when she had made it halfway down the other side, she didn't jump down the rest, not wanting to risk getting injured if she could help it. Once on the other side, she followed her friends, wondering what they would find.

Seeing only some woodlands, Krystal felt a slight twinge of disappointment. This was it? She like nature and all as much as the next person, but..."Yeah." She said, agreeing with Alex. "I...I suppose you're right."

She was ready to go back all the same, relieved. Yet, knowing a few of the others, they wouldn't want to leave just yet.

Agent Richard Conrad drove down the highway. It was a late night for such a drive, but he had to get to Montarry before the sun beat him to it. His Chevy Cobalt (colored black) didn't look out of place among the few other cars on the highway. Agent Conrad himself liked the simplicity of it all, but in all honesty, going to some boring American town in his boring Agency-owned car didn't suit him.....not that he had a choice in the matter anyhow. Richard's eyelids had begun to grow heavy two hours before, but he soon saw the sign for Montarry, posted well on the outer fringes of the city itself. The Agent adjusted his position in the seat, as he had been in such a position for a good part of the day. He was eager to find a hotel and stretch his legs before getting some shut-eye.

Agent Conrad glanced at himself in the mirror, signing as he thought of the assignment handed to him some days before. It was a pretty straight-forward missing persons case, but he's had enough of that in the past. The cases usually shoved absently onto his desk were solved within a month. "Expect nothing more, Agent Conrad..." He'd mutter to himself, yawning. "God, what a day..." He focused back on the road, not wasting any time stretching and searching for a decent hotel as he rolled through the inner-city. "Damn, some of these places are really....there's one, that'll do." Richard pulled into an independently-owned hotel. It looked decent enough, for a few nights at least, maybe for a month even. Pulling into the parking lot, Richard stepped out, stretched, and locked his car. He'd bother with his bags tomorrow morning, right now, he just needed a room and sleep.

The older lady at the reception desk was rather kind, and even gave him a room near the parking lot. He voiced his gratitude absently and went to find his room. Upon entering, Richard was rather surprised. One thing he had learned the hard way from his trips across the country in his line of work, that good, independently, local-owned hotels were few and far between. The tired man took off his shirt, flopping onto the bed and skipping the covers altogether. As he drifted off, he thought of the supernatural, of the things that hid from humanity, that owned the night.

Tomorrow, he'd have to meet with the Chief of Police.

Zachary laughed at Alex's question. "No, I suppose you wouldn't. I swear, you're acting like we're about to uncover all of life's secrets or something." He stood waiting with Alex and Krystal and chatting about whatever came to their minds when Alena arrived next. He watched her hug Alex and Krystal before she glanced at him, not saying anything to him as usual. Smiling, Zach said, "Hey." When she didn't respond, he shook his head and thought, I see Alena's just as strange as ever.

Not too far behind Alena came Tom, flaunting the beer he felt the need to take with him everywhere. Zach rolled his eyes as Alex proceeded to try to take the bottle from Tom, scolding him as if he were a child. Finally, everyone had arrived.

It's good to see not much has changed.

Alex, looking like she'd practically explode with excitement, began to lead the group to the fence and immediately hopped over when she reached it. Zach stood a few feet away from the fence and watched everyone climb over, making sure there were no problems before beginning to climb up himself. When he reached the top, he hopped down easily and followed everyone into the dark forest.

Nothing, just like I expected,
he thought immediately.

Overhearing Alex and Krystal's conversation, Zach walked up to Krystal and put his hand on her shoulder. "Well, if anything does come and try to eat us, I'll be here to chase it off," he said humorously. Letting his hand fall off of Krystal's shoulder, he immediately added, "And who ever said I was worried, Alex? I've told you maybe a million times that it's just forest out here."

I mean, that's all that COULD be out here... Right?

Alena took a moment to blank out right in front of Zachary. This was going to be their last summer together before they headed off into the world. Alena wanted to make the best of it, no more being shy, no more thinking about the consequences. Alena was about to take action this summer. She could feel Zachary's eyes staring at her, which is what snapped her back into reality. Alena replied back with a quick but subtle, "Hey." Alena didn't know why she could talk so easily to the others, but whenever it came to Zachary, she would blank out. Alena hated that about her, but luckily for her, Tom arrived.

Alena let out a soft but light chuckle when Alex tried to grab the bottle from Tom's hand. Tom was never going to stop drinking, it's what he did. But Alena did want to be side by side with her best friend so him drinking all those beers, always worried her. "You guys are going to draw attention over here," Alena said to the two as she tried to quiet them down.

As the group began to enter the forest, Alena let them all go first before she followed behind them. Alena stayed in the back and watched as Alex and Krystal started up a conversation about god knows what, and she watched as Zachary followed up next to them. Alena decided to walk up to Tom and start a conversation with him.

"You don't really think that there's anything out there, do you?" Alena asked him.

Tom couldn't help but smirk at Alex's attempt to take the bottle from his hand. With a little height advantage, he decided to wiggle it in-front of her face giving a a sly wink to her. "Come on, you can reach. Or gimme a kiss and you can have it for free." Joking of course, he took a sip from it before looking round to the others. A quick look over to Krystal he smirked and gave a wink to her. Even though he'd known these people for years upon years, he'd never pass up an opportunity for a little fun.

Once Alena pointed out them being loud, he smirked to her as she walked over. Wrapping his arm round her shoulder he gave her a friendly kiss to the cheek. "Like what? You think the boogy mans gonna come out and play?" He couldn't help but laugh. There was a slight amusement at the tension that was drifting through the air and into the groups way. Even Tom himself wasn't sure what was around but he was sure as hell that it wasn't going to be something along the lines of legends, ghouls and ghosts. Looking back to her as they walked, he gave a wicked grin before speaking. "Don't worry, you've got me to protect you." A quick wink, and that was that.

"I never said you were." Alex sighed, but it was clear the general air of the group was tense, even if it were just slight.

They continued for another short while, the thick tree cover limiting the bright moonlight that could reach the forest floor, their flashlights a necessity as she brought the group to a halt. The forest had fallen oddly silent. Bugs no longer chirping, larger animals no longer moving through the brush. Even the slight breeze sounded as if it were holding its breath. However, none of this managed to bother the young woman as she turned to face the rest of her friends. "Well... it looks as if this trip was a bust." Her voice held slight notes of disappointment as she continued. "Should we head ba-" Suddenly she was abruptly cut off by a loud, hellish snarl, a large wolf leaping out from the shadows of the trees and leaping straight for Krystal. Moving unbelievably fast, it pinned her to the forest floor. Not hesitating in sinking his fangs into the space between her neck and shoulder. "Krystal!" Alex screamed, the beast growling and turning face her instead, baring its bloodstained fangs.

Krystal bit her lip as Zach's hand left her shoulder, and gave him and Tom a half-hearted smile at his wink. She knew Zach was just trying to lighten the mood, but it sounded like the beginnings of a horror novel with what they were doing...On a seemingly normal night as usual, five teens trespass onto forbidden property and walk into the woods beyond, oblivious to--She stopped herself before she could continue, shaking her head slightly at her somewhat irrational fear, then took a deep breath. They were fine, even though they were breaking some rules, and everyone was together. That was all that mattered.

As they continued to walk further into the woods, Krystal looked up at the patches of star speckled sky visible above the treeline. Oddly enough she didn't hear any animals scurrying around anymore, but that was probably due to the loud sound of her heartbeat in her ears. She just couldn't get herself to calm the hell down completely.

Alex turned to her and the rest of the group, sounding vaguely disappointed before she was interrupted by a snarl. Krystal didn't even get the chance to blink as she was suddenly tackled by a large blur, knocking the wind out of her as she fell to the ground. She struggled to move, saw a flash of a gleaming maw in the moonlight, and then felt fangs sink into her skin, somewhere close to her neck.

Pain. So much pain. She heard multiple screams including her own, a bloodcurdling one, with the fangs pulling out of her flesh moments later. The weight on top of her shifted, for a moment allowing for green eyes to meet amber orbs and a muzzle smeared with blood, her blood she realized, her heart skipping several beats, with the beast then moving off of her completely as it lunged straight for a distraught Alex. Too shocked to move, somehow Krystal found the energy cry out, "Alex!!!"

Late into the night, Richard Conrad opened his eyes, his mind forcing him awake from a vivid dream. He sighed, sitting up in bed, glancing at the time on the alarm clock. Rubbing his eyes, he stood up and stumbled into the bathroom, turning on the faucet and splashing cold water onto his face. Agent Conrad looked at his reflection in the mirror. He couldn't remember what his dream was about, but it wasn't a very pleasant experience. The Agent noticed his skin was pale, as if he was frightened beyond his wits. Timidly, he ran his fingers along his collar-bone, watching as the blood returned to his skin. "Hmm," he muttered, "must've been a pretty bad dream then..." He soon found himself taking sleeping pills, then sitting on his bed. The firearm on the bedside table gleamed in the moonlight, and he reached out and removed the magazine. Silver bullets. Hard to find these days, and rather expensive to make, but it gives him peace of mind.

Agent Conrad laid back on the bed, using the covers this time to keep out the cold. As he lay there, he thought of past cases, of events that left him shaken, disturbed mentally. Not all of his previous cases have been successful ones. One search lasted for months on end, but others usually take weeks. Some people simply don't want to be found, or are simply deceased. While these kinds of cases weren't exactly rare, some did not yield so much as a footprint. Those kinds of cases disturbed Richard, but he's kept it together all this time. He swore vengeance for those that never returned, that fell into the clutches of the unforgiving wilderness, never to see daylight as a human. Those that join the pack... He thought to himself as the pills took effect, and he drifted off.

"You couldn't protect me...not while you're in your drunken state of mind." Alena joked as she ran her hand through her hair. Alena didn't like the feeling that this forest brought. Alena hated it, she didn't like anything about this forest. She kept herself on her toes as she was very cautious about where she was stepping. Alena didn't mind being next to Tom. He was always kind to her and she appreciated that a lot. Also, he was the easiest to talk too, apart from the other girls. But Alena didn't have that relationship with Zachary. Whenever she would try and talk to him, she would feel intimidated and back up, maybe that was because she had a small crush on him.

Alena could feel something watching them, but she just thought she was being paranoid. Alena ran her hand through her hair once more, she tended to do this everytime she was nervous. Alena heard something growling for the past minute and before she could even blink, a giant wolf or beast or whatever you wanna call it came out and attacked Krystal. Alena couldn't even get a scream out of her. But her face said it all. Alena's face became red as she let out a scream moments later. "Krystal!!" Alena shouted as she looked around frantically to see if she could find something that would help her remove the beast from her friend.

"Guys! Do something!" Alena shouted at Alex, Tom, and Zachary.

Tom was enjoying the night. Everyone was in high spirits waiting to settle down, well hopefully. He still had his arm round Alena he couldn't help but smirk at her comment about his drinking. He'd only had half of one, but it wasn't quite enough for him. Drink was a way to cope, not that he had anything majorly disturbing in his life, it was just a way to cope with life in general.

Never the less he kept moving with the group. Stopping with the others as he heard the noise, small hairs in the back of his neck stood up. Mind racing, heart pumping and thoughts dashing in and out. 'Bear? Nah. Wolf? Nah..wait..' out from grndarkness the creature had gone for Krystal. Tom stood in fright, it took a lot to get him as a statue but this sure did it. The bottle he was holding smashed against a branch on the floor. His bag fell to the ground off his shoulders, and the scream from Alena woke him up.

"Oi! You big haired donkey!" Tom crouched down reaching for the smashed top of the bottle. He didn't know what he was doing, he had no clue what this thing even was, but he knew he had to help. Running towards Krystal, he tried to jab the smashed edges of the bottle into the under arm of the beast, yet what would he do after that but stand and stare. He couldn't get to Krystal with his thing still stood by her. 'Back away quick..' his mind spoke to him. Frantically waving his arms about, Tom tried to lure it away. 'Come on then! What you gonna do!' The common etiquette of himself came out, fear made strange things of people.

As Alex was the first one who had screamed, she was the one the beast focused on first. Snarling as it looked to begin its charge, she adjusted her grip on her steel flashlight and as it ran towards her, she swung with both hands. Luckily she managed to hit her mark, the side colliding with its skull. Now the light it gave off flickered uncertainly, it partially bend due to the resistance of the wolf's bone. Speaking of the animal, a blow like this would normally put one out of commission, but this only seemed to piss it off as it roared, rushing towards the young woman with determination. Leaping it's paws collided with her torso, it taking her breath away as it then bit down between her chest and stomach, dragging its fangs up towards her throat. While it was reasonably shallow, the wound still burned as pain tore through her body. Letting out a scream of her own, she lost hold of her flashlight as she tried to instinctively cover the wound, but was unable to as the wolf was still on top of her.

As Tom then made a bunch of racket, it growled and turned towards him, running with a blind bloodlust.
