Meeting the reaper

She sighed and opened the portal taking them back where jack was. Jack was sitting on a bench he looked back at them. "Oh hey...are you two okay?" He asked seeing it looked like they been crying. "Yeah jack it's ok.." She said with a sad voice. Jack stared and pulled his self not to ask what they were doing and where they had gone.

Catching on that she wasn't meant to let on the information which she now knew, the devil went to Jack and wrapped her arms around him. Burying her face in his shirt, Kath breathed deeply: he seemed to share a cologne with Quentin, so the scent brought on a strong sense of comfort. It wasn't that she didn't love him, but her memories with her boyfriend strengthened the bond with that familiar scent.

Jack looked down at her. He looked at melody he was confused. Melody went over to kath and whispered in her ear. "Take care of him please...he needs you" She said then backed up. She could tell jack didn't hear he was still looking down at her. He didn't mind but he wanted to know what was going on.

Slowly, she looked up at him, pressing a soft kiss to his jaw, a smile on her face. Knowing his past just made her love grow fonder, and helped her to begin letting go of her past life. "I love you so much, Qu- Jack." A heavy blush settled across her face at the mistake, hoping that he'd missed it.

Jack held her close. "I love you too.." His voice was quiet. He didn't mind if she messed up the names he understood. He looked at melody. "Do you need a hug to you big baby?" He said with a smile. "Yeah I do dork" She said going over and hugging him.

No less than a minute later, Quentin walked around the corner with Kath's best friend, discussin funeral details. Intently, she listened in, discovering that the date of the funeral was in two days time. Her eyes were drawn to her boyfriend: a lightly muscled man, who stood at around six feet with jet black hair that stuck up in all directions. Yet, as soon as Melody had finished hugging her brother, Kath forced her eyes back to the reaper.

Jack looked at her and held her hand tightly and left in his room. He looked at her when he was in his room. He stared at her with sadness. "What did you two do..?" He asked. He thought it was weird when he saw her in the park she didn't want to kiss him at all but when she came back she actually did want to it made him very confused.

Unable to lie to him, the devil carefully chose her words to tiptoe around the truth,"Your sister just opened my eyes to how I feel about you. She shared some new information, and it just made me love you even more."

Jack stared at her and smiled. "Do you understand....you have to let go of the past?" He said looking kind of worried she wouldn't. He ran his hand through her hair.

Kath nodded softly,"It's going to be hard, but I can try. But as a final goodbye, could I attend my own funeral? Maybe seeing my corpse will cement the fact that I'm dead." All that she needed was a chance to say goodbye to her friends, and a chance to get a few of her belongings back.

He smiled. "Of course my love.." He sat down on the bed and looked at her. "Is there anything you want to talk about?" He asked trying to start a conversation. He reached over and grabbed his knife.

"Why do you have that knife? Like, how did you get it and why do you keep it?" She inquired, sitting on the ground at his feet, propping her back up against the bed itself. In life, Kath had often opted for sitting on the floor, as it was simply more comfortable for her, and allowed her to rest her head on people's laps.

Jack looked at his knife. "This is my dad's knife he gave it to me when I was really little and it was my first knife so" He said with a smile. The knife had a red handle and it had some blood on it.

Peering at the knife in his hand, her eyes immediately were drawn to the spot of blood on it. Delicately pointing to it, she looked up at his face,"How come there's blood on it? Did you kill someone? I won't judge you if you did..."

"I'm not sure...it was my father's first he must of did it.." He shrugged. "Umm I was wondering...you know what never mind" He said with a nervous chuckle.

Arching a brow, Kath placed her hand onto his knee, gazing into his eyes. "Babe, you can ask me anything. Unless you want me to call you daddy, because that's just gross." she joked with a giggle.

"Overnight? Sure." She smiled and rested her head on his lap, body relaxing even more. His warmth simply brought her to the brink of sleep, pulse calming down from the hummingbird's heartbeat.

Kath moved to the bed, propping her pitchfork up against the footboard of the bed. She crossed her legs, and held out her hands, closing her eyes in anticipation of her present. "I love gifts."

Jack smiled. He reached in the dresser and got out a box that had a ring in it. He put the box in her hand and sat down on the bed next to her. He smiled and tilted his head seeing how she would react.

Opening her eyes slowly, she peered inside the box, jaw dropping. It was truly beautiful, but imbued her with a certain sense of dread,"I-is this an engagement ring?" How could dead people marry? What would be the point without children?

Jack looked at her for a moment then moved some strands of hair out of his face. "Well... not really... maybe we should wait a little while until that" He said looking down for awhile then looking up at her for a moment.

His words relaxed her, which encouraged her to put on the ring, opting for her right ring finger. It fit perfectly, but she wasn't mentally ready to wear anything on the traditional wedding ring finger. "Dead people can't marry. Can't have a kid. Can't grow old."

Jack looked at her with a side smile. "Is that what you think?" He asked tilting his head a little bit. He got up for a moment and stretched. He couldn't sit down for long. "You are right at the growing old you stop once you get to 20 though.."
