Meeting the reaper

"What about your father? I heard Ashton talking about your parents yesterday when we visited." Kath was drawn from her sorrow by Melody's soothing voice and distracting words. Was this entire family just ridiculously attractive, or just the siblings.

"Our father death the plane crash is all because of him our mother never forgive him when she became the boss of the angels I don't know how ashton over took the real devil..." She looked toward the light. "Me and jack always remained the same same friendship same fights do you want to see our past?" She asked as she stopped in front of large doors. "What we looked like how we acted..." She laughed a bit. "Oh jack was so happy then.."

Smiling softly, Kath followed the angel to the doors, unsure about what she was going to see through the doors. Knowing about Jack's background simply made her love for him feel stronger, heart rising in her chest. This was immediately followed by guilt as Quentin wandered into her mind.

She stopped at a backyard where two kids were playing. She smiled. One of the kids got in the tunnel and the other one blocked it. "Oh yeah so funny let me out melody!" The kid snapped. "Oh yeah i'll let you out right after lunch!" The girl ran inside. "Melody!" The child yelled.

Kah couldn't hide her chuckles as she watched the children. They were so cute, so small: she'd always longed to have kids of her own one day, but her untimely death had clearly gotten in the way of those plans. Jack was still adorable, despite his complaints about being trapped in the tunnel, which she found endearing.

"We were so innocent" She said looking at her. The little one ran back outside. "So jack how is it in that tunnel?" She asked. "Oh well its just great it has a wonderful room and a bathroom oh the most wonderful tv screen" He was being sarcastic. "Ok, ok i'll let you out" She opened the tunnel and he tackled her. "See I knew I could do it" He said with a smile. Melody twitched and chuckled a little bit and looked at kath.

"D'you reckon he could still tackle you like that? He can...tackle me." Kath blushed softly and returned her gaze to the children, happily watching them. It was nice to see that Jack had always been sarcastic, and that his humour was similar to how he was currently.

She smiled and nodded she looked back to the children also. Another kid came along. "You guys are so boring!" The boy grunted. "Well at least we don't get in trouble ashton.." Jack said smiling. Ashton tackled him and growled. "Ashton stop!" She pulled him off of him. He grunted and walked back inside. Melody looked at her and sighed.

A small laugh erupted from the demon upon seeing Ashton tackling Jack, although she knew that she should feel bad. "I see that the boys haven't changed that much. And you still seem to have to keep them in check-I can see why you're an angel."

"Definitely. I'll need something to tease your brothers about. Please tell me one of them went through an emo phase!" Kath's eyes sparkled with mischief, her previous sadness seemingly forgotten. After all, she would be spending a lot of time with them, and Jack had been watching her, probably seeing her embarrassment.

"Oh jack went through emo" She said with a sigh. "I was glad when it was over!" She said with a smile and went through another door. She stopped in a living room. She looked around. "Hmm I wonder where they are.."

Peering around, Kath wandered around the living room, admiring the fancy furnishings of it. "Nice house, by the way." One of them walked into the room after a while, yet as they were looking down, it was difficult to decipher which of the boys it was.

She nodded. Jack jumped on the couch and laid down. A man that looked like jack came through the door. "Jack I told you to take out the trash to the dump did I not?" The man asked. "But dad its so far away.." He mumbled he had a knife the one that he had on his bed.

Leaning over to the angel, Kath murmured softly,"What's with the knife? He still has it in his room." Her brow furrowed as she watched Jack's interaction with his father; it was a strange idea that he could be so rude to a father. Glancing at Jack's face, she could see that he was wearing black smudgy eyeliner and nail varnish. This was definitely going to be used against him.

"I don't know you have to ask jack that.." She explained and shrugged. "Jack you need to go outside" He said with a frown. "Ashton and melody don't go outside why should I?" He asked. "Because I care about you more" He said still frowning. Jack sat up and sighed not saying another word. Melody looked at her. "That's death.." She said pointing at the father.

"He got a lot skinnier, it seems. Now he really looks like death.." She joked, but upon seeing the unamused expression on the angel's face cast her eyes back to the scene unfolding. It was odd to Kath that their father outwardly picked favourites, yet she was an only child (ignoring her sister who died aged three).

Melody looked at kath then back at them. "I lied.." She said looking down. She grabbed her hand and went through another door. When they went in they was in the woods. Jack appeared with melody. "I hate the woods.." He stated. "Oh well get over it.." She said pushing him. Melody sighed and looked down.

Noticing Melody's sigh, the girl was anticipating the worst. Sensing that something was going to happen, Kath focused on the scene more, trying not to get distracted,"Where's your mother through all this?" She murmured to the angel, without looking away from them.

"Here." She said quietly. She put down the wood and jack did the same. "I told you kids would have fun" It was there mother she looked like melody. "Yes carrying wood is the best mother" He said raising a eyebrow. "Oh ha ha jack" She said ruffling his hair. "Ashton stop trying to cut down the tree" Their mother said. "I don't like this tree!" He snapped at her. She grunted and turned around at them. "Who is ready for food?" Their father asked. Everyone moaned. "Oh come on guys.."

She raised her eyebrows at the children's apparent annoyance at the idea of food: to Kath, eating was one of life's biggest joy and the idea that children weren't excited was strange. Quietly, she whispered to the angel, "Your mother's very beautiful."

She nodded and smiled. "Ashton stopped chopping down the tree and get over here!" He yelled. "You know you shouldn't yell at him he doesn't listen like that.." She said calmly. "Well he wont listen in the first place..jack come help me.." He looked at jack. Jack nodded and got up and helped his father. "Jack go get ashton.." His father said. Jack nodded and went toward Ashton. "Hey come eat" Jack said watching him. "Hold on!" Jack rolled his eyes. The tree was about to fall. "Yes!" The tree fell right on jack enough to kill him. "No!" His mother cried. Melody looked at her. "That's how he died.."

"Fuck...that's rough..." Her jaw physically dropped, as tears sprang to her eyes, upon seeing the boy's life end. It was no wonder that Jack seemed to be all doom and gloom a lot of the time; his brother had inadvertently murdered him. "Wait, earlier you said that Ashton blamed him for the plane crash...How does that work?"

She sighed. "Ashton blamed him for being near him...my mother died the same day because she couldn't handle jack dying. Ashton killed me because he couldn't stand to see me if he didn't see jack... my father died of suicide Ashton the same our whole family..." She started to cry. She looked at her with a frown.

"I-I'm sorry, Melody." She reached out her arm, gently rubbing the angel's shoulder in what she deemed a comforting manner. As the tears began to fall, Kath pulled her into a hug, wrapping her arms around the girl tightly. It was clear now that the family had some issues, and that she cared more for Jack than previously realised.
