it's the most 𝘸𝘰𝘯π˜₯𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘭 time of the year!
Between me and MorganaLeFay MorganaLeFay

People say that the ceremony is one to cherish. The one night where you find out who you will be spending eternity with. I would think its kind of nerve wracking. You don't know who it will be. What makes it worse is that you have a possibility to be bond to someone you despise. I don't think I could ever handle that. I am not one to agree with this ceremony, but what can I do? The government believes that they have the god given right to do this. And no one in that city dared to defy or doubt their power.

***
Evangeline woke up around 2 in the afternoon, almost three. It didn't surprise her in any way since she had stayed up late last night thinking about, ah yes of course, the ceremony. She had always been against it. She believed that you are supposed to find love naturally. Not have the person be picked out for you. She knew that's how life was supposed to work. But in this city, that was wrong. They knew who you were bound with. Evangeline had always tried to talk her mom into moving out of this place. But of course, her mother always disapproved of that idea.

Getting up slowly, she walked over to her drawer and picked out some clothes for the day. She took her much needed shower and brushed her teeth. Looking in the mirror, she sighed. As her blue eyes stared right back at her, she took in how tired and exhausted she looked still. It wasn't a good sight, but Evangeline knew that with a healthy breakfast and her nice walk around the city she would be fine. Walking downstairs and slipping on her shoes that were by the door, she walked into the kitchen only to have a strong smell of bacon and eggs fill her nostrils. "Good afternoon, sweetheart."her mother said and smiled at her.

Evangeline shrugged her head a little bit and grabbed an apple that was in the wooden bowl. Her mother noticed that she had grabbed it and sighed. "You know that you can't live off apples and water right? You need to eat something fatty. You're starting to disappear on me."she said, taking in her pale daughter's slender figure. All she did was shrug and kiss the top of her mom's head. "im gonna head out. Don't wait up for me."she said and went outside, shutting the door behind her. Evangeline looked up at the gray, swollen clouds and couldn't help but smile a little. Man I love this weather, she thought to herself and headed out towards the city

(Not sure how much you write, but if this is too much you don't have to match my amount)

Roran was up with sun, as he always was, though he wasn't much of a morning person. At least, he wasn't until his second or third cup of coffee. He just believed that you shouldn't waste the daylight hours, and so, he woke up at sunrise every morning.
He still lived with his parents, as all unmatched young adults did, and most of the time they slept until noon. Not today, though. Today they were up only shortly after he was, because today was a day of celebration. The ceremony was today, and the thick, cream colored envelope with his invitation to the ball was sitting on the kitchen counter, and it had been the topic of discussion all day. He couldn't get his mom or dad to change the subject!
Now it was early afternoon, and the ball was in a few hours. His mom made him start getting ready, and he took a shower, shaved, and somewhat tried to tidy up his unruly hair. Then he got dressed in the suit that all the young men were loaned, and waited until it was time to leave for the dance

After a while of walking throughout the town, she heard a beeping sound coming from the pocket of her black sweater. When she grabbed her phone and read the message, she sighed. Its time sweetie, starting heading back home so you I can do your hair and get you into the dress. Wearing dresses was most definitely not her favorite thing. In fact, she hated the idea of even looking classy and fancy. Evangeline never liked the girly style. She was more laid back. "Another good reason as to why I hate this event."she mumbled to herself.

When she finally arrived home, her mother already had her plastic covered dress hanging on the side of the chair. "Alright c'mon into the bathroom so I can start doing that beautiful black hair of yours."she hollered out from the bathroom. When she was done, her mother had weaved her hair into a perfect crown braid wrapped around her head with half of her hair down past her shoulders. Her light amount of make up was already done. "Alright sweet heart let me go get that black dr-"her mother was interrupted when Evangeline grabbed her by the arm suddenly. "Im not sure I want to do this" she said, feeling the nerves start to kick in.

"Well honey, you really have no choice. You need to do this."she said and patted her daughter's hand. Walking behind her mother to the living room, she had her chance into the slender spaghetti strapped dress. When she looked at her own reflection, she traced the sweetheart neckline with her eyes. Ugh this is revolting, she thought to herself as she looked down at the open slit showing her leg. "You are beautiful. And you look classy to."she added and kissed her daughter's cheek.

In just a few short hours, Evangeline would be meeting her mate. And she wasn't happy about it.

Roran checked himself one last time in the mirror, straightening his tie and and trying to get his hair to lay down before he headed to the door. He kissed his mum on the cheek, and shook his dad's hand, knowing that a week after the ceremony (the allotted time given to pack up all belongings and say goodbye, while also getting to know your new partner) he would be moving in with his mate. He couldn't honestly say he wasn't nervous, but it was the good kind of nervous. The kind that sharpened your senses and made you preform better.
He climbed into his government issued car (everyone got one after completing the required tests),and set his invitation on the seat next to him. He hadn't scratched off his number yet, wanting to wait until the last possible moment he could before he found of the simple digit that would change his life.
It only took him about fifteen minutes to get to the building where the dance was being held, and when he found a parking spot he sat there for a moment, the invitation in his hands, before he scratched off the number. In big bold type, there it was '26'. He slid the number into his pocket, then headed into the building, fidgeting with the hem of his suit jacket.

"I love you sweetheart! Have a wonderful time!"her mother called out as Evangeline walked towards the black car. Before going inside, Evangeline turned and smiled, blowing a kiss to her mom. Mouthing the words 'I love you', she went into the car and let out a sigh. She was completely nervous about the whole thing. What would it be like? Who is she gonna be matched up with? She remembered the first time she was at a match ceremony. Her mother had been holding her hand and she was nervous as well. Not about herself though. Mostly worried about whether this mystery man would get along with her young daughter. And he had.

The car started slowly after they heard the click of her seat belt. She stared at the envelope and ran her finger along the edge. She wanted to wait to open it, but her eagerness and curiosity overtook her. Opening it and scratching it, she stopped when she seen the first number. '2'. She clenched her teeth slightly and slowed her pace, continuing to scratch. When she seen the full number, she nodded. It was an easy relief knowing what her number was. '26'. That number repeated in her head the whole way there

Roran stood int the ballroom, chatting with some of the other guests there that he knew. As he talked, his eyes wandered the room, looking at all the girls there, and wondering which one he would end up with. She might not even be there yet, he knew that the actual ceremony didn't start for at least another ten minutes. When it did, the numbers would be called, and then the young people would be able to spend the rest of the night together.
26. That number repeated in his head, as he found himself watching every new arrival. Maybe he would spot her come in. Maybe he would fall in love with her at first sight...

After the 15 minutes ended, she pulled up in front of the place. She couldn't help but glance at her driver through the mirror. "Can I ask a question?"she asked. "You just did."he said and smirked a little bit. "Ha ha..very funny. You must have been apart of this ceremony once. Whats it like being in that position?"she asked. Evangeline never really had a chance to ask her mom, since she was in such a rush to get here. "Not to bad. Just don't get matched up with who you hate."he said and waved his hand, ushering her out.

Well that response didn't help much, she thought and sighed. Grabbing the cream colored envelope, she got out of the car and stepped onto the sidewalk. She fixed her long black dress and ran a finger through her hair before walking inside. As she was about to go in, one of the members stopped and let her through first. "Thank you."she said and sighed, walking inside the room. It was filled with dozens of people. Evangeline couldn't help but look at the brightly colored and sparkly dresses that the women wore. Wow, I definitely stand out, she thought as she looked down at her black dress again. No sparks, no colors. Just a black dress with a sweetheart neckline and slit up her leg. Wow.

His eyes nearly skipped over the girl in black. He only looked at her for a moment before his attention was drawn away by a brighter color on a different girl. Before long, the ceremony would start, and he would figure out who his match was. He gravitated towards the drink table, and grabbed a cup of punch to wet his throat and steel his nerves.

Evangeline sat down at her assigned table after she had grabbed a cup of water. She held it loosely since it was a just a plastic clear cup. Any minute she would finally meet who her life partner was. And to think that, that earlier is was a few hours. "I don't wanna do this..."she mumbled and thought of her mom for a few seconds. This is just too much.

Everyone started making their way to the tables, because it was time. Soon, a big screen came down from the ceiling, and an announcer came out. "Welcome, prospective matches," the woman said. "In a few moments you will see a number come up on the screen. When you see your number, come up to the front, and you and your match will be introduced. After all the numbers have been shown, and all matches made, you will have a few hours to socialize and get to know each other." After she finushed speaking, the number 1 came up on the screen. Two people stood, and went to the front, were introduced, and then sat together at a table.

Evangeline clapped for every match that was discovered. She noticed that some were slightly disappointed but others were very happy. Turning to drink from her plastic cup, her attention turned back to the host. "Alright ladies and gentlemen, settle down. Settle down, please. Lets get on with this ceremony, shall we?"she said and smiled at everyone. Smoothing out her dress, Evangeline went breathless when she seen the number. 25 the number on the screen read. "Wow...well here it goes."she said and clapped when she seen the two humans introduced themselves.

Im next, she thought.

Roran was already standing up before his number popped up on the screen, and as he made his way to the front, he looked around to see who else had stood. He hoped she was pretty, but he hoped that they would be able to get along even more. He finally made it to the front, and stood on one side of the announcer.

When Evangeline heard her number called, she looked up and clenched her teeth slightly. She set the cup down at the table and stood up making her way up the stage. One women stopped her to give her a hug and congratulate her. All she did was smile slightly and move a loose strand of hair out of her face. Picking up her dress slightly, she walked up the stairs and stood next to him.

He raised an eyebrow as he saw the girl in front of him, dressed in a simple black dress. Wasn't exactly what he was expecting, but she wasn't bad by any means. He smiled at her and stuck out his hand to shake. "Roran Dawnes. Nice to meet you."

Evangeline looked at him and down at his hand. She grabbed it and shook it slightly. "Evangeline Kingston. Its nice to meet you as well."she said and mustered up a small smile. Well...not what I expected, she said as she looked over him with her baby blues. She pulled her hand away from his and made her way back down the stairs when the next number was about to appear on the screen.

His own deep brown eyes followed her form down the steps, before he went down himself. He hoped that the dance would start soon, so he could get to know her better. She seemed interesting enough, and he sure there was a story or two she could tell him about herself.
The numbers went up to thirty, and then the tables were cleared away, and the dance started. Roran looked around for Evangeline, and spotted her across the room. He started making his way over to her

She rubbed her hands together slightly, thinking about her mother. She did miss her...a lot actually. But she would have to get used to being gone for a while. She looked up to see that Roran was walking up to her. Evangeline let her hand dangle at her sides. "Hello again."she said and gave him a small smile. "Guessing you would like to talk."she said.
MorganaLeFay MorganaLeFay

Roran raised his eyebrow again, a small smirk coming to his face. "Well, I find talking and getting to know each other preferable to being forced into an apartment together, with the only thing I know about you being your name." He held out his hand as music started to play. "Do you dance?"

"Actually, I do." she said and looked down at his empty hand. She didn't really feel like dancing much, but thats what this ceremony was about. She took his hand, giving it a small squeeze and led the both of them to the dance floor, pushing past the people there. When they both made it there, she turned around and looked at him.

When they got there, he put his hand on her waist and started leading her through the waltz, stepping in time with the music. "So that leads me to my first question. Who taught you to dance?"

Evangeline smiled slightly, following each movement he made so she wouldn't screw it up. "My mom did."she said and looked up at him. "Who taught you to dance? You're pretty good. Better than I am, to be honest."she said.
MorganaLeFay MorganaLeFay

Roran grimaced slightly. "My parents made me take classes. Oh my goodness, I absolutely hated them. Hated it!" But then his smile returned. "But as you can see, I did learn something from them."

Evangeline chuckled a little bit and shook her head. "You're not the only one. I didn't exactly like dancing since I was never into it. But nothing is worse than piano. My mom made me learn how. Thinking that it would pay off in the future."she said
MorganaLeFay MorganaLeFay

Roran rolled his eyes, and groaned. "I agree with you on that one. Piano sucked so bad! I couldn't play anything else besides scales, and they still payed for the lessons."

She nodded in a way of showing him that she was paying attention to what he had been saying. "Well..there's something we can agree on. Piano sucks. Now my turn to ask something. Do you have any siblings?"she asked out of curiosity.
