Nathan Spencer

spencer-wall2.jpg

Name:
Nathan Spencer
Alias:
"Rad" Spencer
Age:
34
Universe From:
Capcom, Bionic Commando series
Weapons/Equipment:
  • Bionic Arm: Nathan's bionic arm was developed by the FSA military intelligence agency T.A.S.C. at a cost of over $500 million and was the first piece of modern bionic technology to be successfully attached to and controlled by a human host. It is made of lightweight and durable graphite composite materials and powered by a replaceable hydrogen micro-fuel cell. It is a dual-use artificial limb replacement/grappling hook with 65 feet of cable equipped as standard. The bionic arm is fully integrated into Nathan's nervous system, connected to the spinal cord and brain stem, meaning it requires no more skill to operate than his own natural limbs.
    • Swinging and Launching: Nathan's Bionic Arm can be utilised in many ways, enabling Nathan to leap from it at great speeds, or climb up tall buildings. With proper effort, he can reach speeds of up to 300 mph.
    • Superhuman Strength: Nathan's Bionic Arm grants him a limited super-strength. He can lift about 5 tons judging on the strike-force of the Bionic Arm and how far and hard he can throw large objects like rocks.
    • Superhuman Durability: Nathan's Bionic Arm is made of lightweight and durable graphite composite materials, giving it immense durability.
    • Hacking: Nathan's Bionic Arm can also hack into electronic devices and systems.
  • Steinmech M3-BC "Tungsten": The Steinmech M3 is a machine pistol favoured by FSA Armed Forces military aircraft and vehicle crews. Subsequently adopted by TASC Special Ops, the BC variant model is specially modified for use by TASC's bionic troops, becoming the standard-issue firearm for TASC's bionic troops. The Tungsten is classified as a machine pistol, marrying the accuracy of a pistol with the power and rate of fire of a machine gun. The Tungsten's high rate of fire, compact size, and unprecedented reliability combined to make a deadly sidearm for an equally-deadly unit. It is equipped with laser-ignition firing mechanism and smart-fluid barrel stabilisation, which provide excellent single-handed stability, even during sustained burst fire. The Tungsten fires high-velocity steel-core SLAP (Semi/Light Armour-Piercing) rounds which are designed to penetrate mil-spec body armour at close to medium range. However, accuracy and effectiveness become significantly compromised over longer ranges.
Powers/Abilities:
  • Secondary Bionic Enhancements: Spencer has a number of secondary bionic improvements, like his Bionic Armour or Iron Boots, that, for example, provide armour, weaponize his adrenaline, regenerate his health, allow him to jump superhuman heights and fall hundreds of feet without injury, and more.
  • Specialised Training: Nathan has gone through specialised training in the military and in Bionics. He is capable of engaging and disabling multiple Bionics, and Bio-Mechs, and tons of eco-terrorists.
    • Expert Marksman: Nathan is an amazing marksman, capable of shooting dozens of eco-terrorists before any shoot or even see him.
    • Expert Stealth Operator: Nathan can sneak around dozens of eco-terrorists taking them out one by one silently.
Weaknesses:
  • Water: Spencer's bionic arm is extremely heavy, and almost completely shuts down when exposed to water. Spencer therefore cannot swim in water as his arm drags him down.
  • Radiation: Spencer is especially susceptible to radiation due to his bionic's sensitive electronics.
  • Neural Link: Spencer's bionic arm is neurologically linked to his nervous system. If it was ever to be forcefully removed, it would cause Spencer extreme pain and render him unconscious.
Special Moves:
  • Whip Spin: A full 360 degree spin, using the bionic arms wire to devastate opponents.
  • Rip: Spencer can use his arm to tear down parts of the environment.
  • Kiting: Spencer whips his opponent into the air, while still attached to the wire.
  • Right Hook: Spencer swings his bionic arm in a downward arc which hits overhead.
  • Zip Line: Spencer moves to a certain place quickly with the help of his bionic arm.
  • Wire Grapple: Spencer fires his hand at his opponent. If Spencer's Wire Grapple connects, he can do these follow-ups:
    • Reel In Punch: Spencer pulls his opponent in and punches the target.
    • Zip Kick: Spencer pulls himself towards his opponent in and kicks the enemy into the wall.
    • Come 'ere: Spencer pulls his opponent towards himself.
  • Jaw Breaker: Spencer grabs a hold of the opponent, and punches them in the jaw, launching them into the air.
  • Armour Piercer: Spencer unleashes a powerful punch from his bionic arm, that sends the opponent flying.
  • Bionic Bomber: Performed in the air, Spencer charges straight down towards the ground for an earth-shattering punch with his bionic arm.
  • Bionic Lancer: A highly-damaging, one-hit punch delivered by Spencer's bionic arm as he dashes forward.
  • Bionic Maneuvers: Spencer grapples an opponent and delivers a one-two hit. Spencer knocks them away with a bionic uppercut. Airborne, the opponent is grappled again and is smashed into the ground, reeled in and pummelled by a finishing blow.
Personality:
Once a playful and cynical character, Spencer has become despondent, bitter and angry. His main trait however is his sheer determination. Even when faced with impossible odds, he just sees it as a challenge. Try to (and almost succeed in) kill him, and he'll make you suffer for it. It's almost to the point of psychopathy: he does not, cannot, and will not lose if he can do anything about it. Additionally, Spencer arguably takes rather too much enjoyment from throwing his enemies off cliffs or shooting them in the head, making him appear almost sociopathic. He is also something of a "wiseass" and prone to using profanity.
Backstory:
Nathan Spencer was a member of the Federal States of America's armed forces, but his military career was stopped short when a grenade removed his left arm. While on rehabilitation leave, he accepted a position as the first test subject for bionics technology by T.A.S.C., the FSA military's intelligence division. He was given the code name: Research And Development #1, or RAD #1, and the name stuck; many continued to call him "Rad" Spencer for years on end.

Under the supervision of TASC agent and supervisor of bionics technology Joseph Gibson, Nathan was the first human subject to be fitted with and control a bionic limb. Though the technology was still in the prototype phase, the fascistic Imperial Army attacked, and TASC's first operative, Super Joe, was captured. Nathan was activated early and sent into the field, given the field rank of Captain, and sent to rescue Joe and stop the Imperials. He succeeded with flying colours and his statue, along with Super Joe's, now decorates the Avenue of Heroes in Ascension City, along with other heroes of the conflict. Super Joe was promoted to Director of TASC, and he and Spencer oversaw the training of the TASC Special Ops...new "bionic commandos", just like Spencer. This unit would come to be legendary as the deadliest fighting unit in the world.

However, bionics technology proved divisive, and the populace grew weary of being normal humans in a world of super-powered bionics. Demonstrations and riots followed, coming to a head when a group of rogue bionics was accused of aiding a rebellion against the FSA. The investigation found Nathan Spencer the sole perpetrator of all crimes, and he was convicted and sentenced to death by a military tribunal. He was actually innocent of all charges, but despite proclaiming this, his appeal was denied. He was stripped of his bionic arm and placed in the TASC Military Disciplinary Facility in Fort Leavenworth to await execution.

The anti-bionics sentiment came to a head, and a new executive order known as the Bionic Purge was passed almost overnight, outlawing bionics technology. Merely being a bionic became against the law, and bionics were forced to hand in their implants or face prosecution. As a convicted criminal on death row, Nathan could do nothing to oppose the move and became despondent.
