Since it's the first series of sentinels. They lack things like the ability to take away mutant powers or the ability to reactively adapt to different powers or anything as cool as along those lines.

They do have their genetics scanners that target mutants. They will attack non mutants who attack them but most non mutants who don't attack them will go unnoticed.
