Managing Forums in a Hosted Project

Hi! I'm starting up a hosted project where the premise is about pitting any two characters against each other to see who might win in a fight.

  • How can I delete certain forums from the "Manage Forums" menu? Do I need to file a support ticket for those, too?
  • How can I make a "main" forum view-only? I was planning to have one section have the archived (uneditable) fights and another for talk amongst the users.

Each forum will have different, editable permissions.  You can create roles and determine which roles have certain powers to access specific areas in your HP.  This includes but does not limit the list to seeing forums, creating threads, posting in threads, seeing other people's threads, etc.

I am not sure whether it is possible to completely a forum from an HP.  You can always make it so that no one else but yourself can see the forum.  Alternatively, you can recycle the forum for something else that may be useful to your project.

Really? A completely "unerasable" forum? You think they'd make fail-safes for that kind of stuff...in any case, thanks! I'll come back if I have any questions.

Well, technically speaking, everything on this site is permanent.  Nothing can be completely deleted, including posts and threads.  The content is simply hidden.  From my understanding, absolutely erasing content from the site would cause some nasty, technical issues.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. :)

It seems that some of the permissions for the role you assigned yourself are not enabled.  Return to the role management page and edit the permissions under the 'Forum' tab.  All of the permissions should be enabled for your role.  Once you have all of the permissions enabled, try to create a thread once more.  Additionally, I have given the 'Host' role full forum moderation permissions (such as replying to topics and creating new threads) for the New Battle Suggestions forum in your HP.
