INTRODUCTION
Hi there! I'm Purity. Comp sci college student, video game enthusiast, occasionally avid writer, and supposedly an anime fan. I'm making this thread separate from my main thread mostly to find people that share a recent obsession of mine: Makoto Shinkai films. I'm looking to create a story that emulates the style, so likely an oriental fantasy taking place in modern day Japan. Whether we're taking inspiration from real life myths and legends or coming up with something entirely new, I'm looking for a story that has impact and meaning. And hopefully longevity. Below is an about me, but it's also generally what I look for in a partner. So please, read everything! I even significantly cut down this post for ease of reading in comparison to my main thread if you've seen it, but if you want something more in depth with other plots and samples, check it out!

ABOUT ME
  • Novella-style, I do 600-1000 words while going a bit longer on starters.
  • No triggers. Tell me about yours however!
  • Love romance and platonic stories, and I have no gender preference for my characters.
  • Main preference for romance is mxf or fxf. The only pairing I'm not interested in is mxm. Just doesn't speak to me, and I don't want to half-ass it for you either.
  • Love playing multiple characters, but depends on whether it's appropriate for the story.
  • Talking about what we're going to do is my jam, I like to plan and worldbuild a lot beforehand.
  • If we make a story, I don't have a preference for either of the main roles we come up with.
  • Very talkative OOC! I'm available pretty much 24/7 on Discord, and all RPN notifs are forwarded to there as well so I'm almost always available.
  • No triggers. Tell me about yours however!
  • I will try to be as transparent as possible. If I like something, I'll let you know. If I don't like something, I'll respectfully let you know. If I'm going to disappear for a bit, I'll let you know.
  • Ghost-friendly! Would absolutely appreciate a heads up, but real life first. I'll bump you once after a week of inactivity and then I won't bother you.
  • Quick disclaimer, I am in no way knowledgeable of actual Japanese culture or language, so I apologize if anything is offensive.
PLOTTING
Now onto the important part! Bottom line, I'm looking for a story that includes modern Japan, fantasy, and a beautiful juxtaposition of the two alongside everything that makes your heart melt. If you have something like that to pitch to me, I'm all ears!

Here, I have some starters I would personally love to start off with in vague order of preference, but they're not something we absolutely have to do. Some of them are a bit open-ended, but that's just because I wanted to develop an overarching plot with you. The gender pairings are included just because it's easier for me to envision these stories with gender pairings, they're in no way concrete and I promise I'm quite flexible. On the same token, I'm also happy to tweak around details for these, just because they're based more on main concepts that I want to explore in writing rather than specifics.
THE SONG OF WATER
Muse A is an orphan, a victim of a massive tsunami that once swept through the countryside where she lived. It drowned her mother, her father, her friends, her hometown, and it nearly drowned her as well, until... it didn't. Adopted by her great-uncle and great-aunt, she lives close enough to the bay that swallowed her childhood home to visit the sunken town every now and then. Because she can breathe underwater, and in fact, feels much more comfortable underwater, away from the troubles of the world, the pressures of society, the schoolwork, the work work, just her and the flowing water as one. And so she keeps it as her little secret, her little comfort in a life that's already filled with so much sorrow.

One day, she runs into Muse B, who she can clearly tell is from out of town since it's a fairly small town and she knows most of the inhabitants. And clearly, he has secrets of his own, because he asks Muse A if she knows of anyone in the town that can breathe underwater. What unfolds next is an adventure of rediscovering the past and figuring out exactly what happened, and how to prevent it from happening again.
JIJINKI
Muse A is a high school student that matured far too quickly. Having buried his father in the past and taking care of his mother from an illness for a long time, he's no stranger to death, especially when his mother finally passes. Per the arrangements made in advance, Muse A goes to live with his grandmother in a smaller town, who shares his grief for his mother’s death but takes solace in her faith in spirituality. Muse A, unfortunately, shares no such beliefs and is only left with his sorrow.

Until he visits the graveyard and finds Muse B eating his mother’s rampaging spirit. Much to Muse B's surprise, as normal humans aren't supposed to be able to see spirits.

Muse B is a similar age to Muse A, but that's about where the similarities end. She's a Jijinki. She can eat pretty much anything, whether it be physical or more conceptual like energy or time. But she's dying. She's been looking for a way to cure herself, with the only thing she's figured out so far is that eating the souls of people staves off her own death. So far, she's restricted herself to only consuming those souls which have recently died and can't depart for whatever reason, but eating dead spirits is losing its efficacy.

Despite the most awkward of introductions, Muse A promises to help Muse B find the cure she's looking for, and she in return agrees to show Muse A the spiritual side of the world along with discovering why he's suddenly gaining these abilities.
OKUNO
Muse A is the emperor. Well, he used to be anyway. During his reign, he found what most of his predecessors had struggled to find for so long: the key to immortality. For quite some time he fashioned the future of Japan, ruling the courts often from behind the scenes and occasionally on the throne when people didn't suspect he was the same person all this time. And yet, now, the Japan he'd spent so long crafting had evolved so quickly that it was unrecognizable to him. In the modern era, he'd found that immortality was by far a curse more than a blessing. Despondent and without much purpose, he spends his days drinking and going through part time jobs to pay for rent.

One day, he decides to try and snap out of his despondency by taking a walk at a local park. That's where he runs into Muse B. Muse B is a fox. Well, she used to be anyway. Once upon a time, Muse A had found her injured outside his palace. Knowing of the supernatural abilities of foxes, he'd nurtured her back to full health with a combination of medicine and his own spiritual energy, before releasing her on the palace grounds. She'd often sleep by him whenever he was out amongst his courtyard gardens, until one day she'd found she'd taken enough of his energy to where she'd gotten an extra tail, and with it, the kitsune's ability to shapeshift. She left the palace grounds that day, setting of to see the world as only a human could.

Which is why it hurt her so much to see him like this now. He doesn't recognize her, but perhaps it was time to pay back an act of kindness from so long ago.
YUKI
Muse A is a compassionate soul. When he's not studying for his next exam or hanging out with friends, he's engaged in community service, whether that's providing for the elderly or volunteering at kitchens feeding the homeless.

Muse B is the spirit of winter. But because that's not exactly a job that pays the bills, she often frequents the kitchens that Muse A volunteers at, sleeps outside or in internet cafes when she can afford it, and picks up odd jobs in order to pay for her crippling addiction to mangas. After all, winter is only one season of the year, and she has a lot of time to burn.

But one day, one of the elderly that Muse A is caring for passes away after giving him their last words which he can't quite make out. Muse A is of course sad, but doesn't think much else of it until the weather starts to become more chaotic, the cold of winter doesn't come, and Muse B chases him down demanding to know what happened to the spirit of fall.
THE LAMENTED
Muse A is a huge fan of urban legends. It certainly beats the monotony of school and a part time job, but it’s not exactly a hobby that a lot of people share, not to mention she doesn't often have a whole lot of time to make it to all these random locations. One day, though, she learns about a legend which isn’t too far from where she lives. Ecstatic, first thing after the busy part of their day is done, she makes her way over.

And she does find a rather terrifying looking spirit, but it seems to be rather at peace sitting next to Muse B, who’s talking to it as if they’d just met at some café. Seconds later, it disappears in a swirl of glittering points of light.

Muse B is a Shinigami. He deals with these urban legends before they can hurt anyone and keeps them as legends instead of reality by appeasing the spirits and helping them finally rest. But having done this for so long means he's slightly out of touch with the modern world, and so he asks Muse A to help them find new urban legends to tackle through the internet. And maybe teach him a thing or two about these newfangled smartphones.
CONCLUSION
