Mercedes Zabielski
Mercedes hated snow.

Yes, Winter was her favorite season-- but she hated snow. It was pretty as it fell, but after people trudge their muddy feet through it so many times, it gets black and nasty. Sadie wasn't a fan of building snowmen, nor did she want to throw herself into the snow and make snow angels. And the first person to throw a snowball at her was getting one thrown back, with a rock inside.

Not to mention driving in the stuff? It was dangerous! She'd nearly slammed into at least five people on her way from home to the bands storage unit. Their auditions were being held today. Two hours of mostly talentless losers trying to impress Sadie and her friends, all because they wanted a shot at fame, or to say they were in a band.

Sadie and the rest of the band members had to look through that. They had to find the person whose talent shines through all the bullcrap, plus someone whose personality would mesh well. Sadie had to admit, the band already had a hodgepodge of personalities, so she hoped they found someone who fit well. And quickly.

It wasn't like the storage unit had heat, after all. Just a tiny space heater.

Parking her car, she looked around the lot and noticed she was the first to arrive. "Really?" She blinked, then shrugged and got out, twirling her keys on her fingers as she headed for their unit. Unlocking it, she pushed it up and glanced inside their practice space. Moving towards the heater, she set it in the middle of the room and plugged it in, turning it on.

Pulling one of the lawn chairs from the side of the room towards the heater, she opened it and set it down, plopping down in it. Tryouts didn't start for another half an hour; plenty of time for her bandmates to show up, as well as people trying out. Hanging her head back, she closed her eyes, drumming her fingers on her stomach absendmindedly.

It was a good day, no, Sam would even dare to say it was a great day. It was winter, there was snow on the ground, he did so love both the cold and snow, Tennessee Whiskey had started playing on the radio and his kids were coming home for winter break. There were a few hiccups, of course, the bands ever going quest for a guitarist being the most notable as it was holding it all back and making his life miserable. How could he hope to push a band that wasn't even a full band? Any record label would take one look at such an unstable group and pull the plug before he could even open his mouth to sell them on the good points of his clients which, admittedly, were sometimes a pain to find. If they were lucky, extremely lucky, today would be the day that problem was finally solved and they could really get this show on the road, but the more sensible and experienced professional in him was sure this was going to be just a few hours of people looking for fifteen minutes of fame or something to use to bag a date as finding a decent guitarist? Not as hard as it sounds. Finding a decent guitarist that got along with them? Nearly impossible. Sam pulled his crimson 2017 Durango into the parking lot, it was one of the few luxuries he allowed himself. Sam was never one for cars and didn't care if he had the newest and brightest, hell, he'd be fine driving around a van, but an SUV had some features he admired, mainly, four wheel drive and folding back seats for when he had to help bands ferry their equipment.

As Sam stepped out of his suv, he noticed there was only one other vehicle, and it was her's. Because of course it'd be her's. It couldn't be a few of them, or if it had to be one, be Melanie or someone he could go five seconds without wanting to throw off a train. No, it just had to be Sadie. This day suddenly didn't feel so great anymore. The only way it could be worse is if it was Sadie and Zeke because then he'd have to endure their playful flirting and bickering. It never failed to irk him although he did his best to keep that to himself, the last thing he wanted to do was make it known how much he frowned upon their relationship. Band members dating was always a bad idea, why it seemed to annoy him more then any other time it had ever happened in his career, he assumed was because he had invested so much into them for, surely, it could be no other reason just as there was no reason for him to straighten out the wrinkles in his plain grey sweater or run his free hand through his long dark hair to even it out as he approached the storage unit they used for practice. When his eyes fell upon the she-devil herself, Sam felt the corner of his lip tug upwards for just a moment before it settled into a frown. She was there just lounging in a chair and Sam was fairly certain she had dozed off next to the small space heater which only reminded him he needed to buy them a bigger one after this because they'd need more practice and one just wasn't enough, especially, when she insisted on wearing torn up jeans showing off the pale legs beneath even if, in his opinion, it entirely defeated the purpose of wearing something warm for winter. It was like wearing a heavy jacket and shorts! Made no sense. None at all. He let his eyes linger on her legs as he sassed the woman in his mind, she'd catch a cold and then practice would have to go on without their vocalist who'd only make it worse by trying to participate, he could already imagine how.. pesky it would be. He could only imagine she was tuckered out from a night out on the town doing whatever it is people like her did and probably with Zeke which brought up that same feeling of needles in his stomach and that oh-so familiar irritation. Sam's eyes settled on her face, the dark eyeliner, the piercings that he would often say must have made her magnetic by now, but even if he'd never admit it, she was incredibly beautiful and when she smiled..

His thoughts were interrupted as his pocket vibrated, Sam fished his phone out and brought it to his ear, "Hello?"

"Dad?" a small voice said, the voice brought a smile to his face and he leaned against the wall, "David is dropping us off in a bit, are you going to be home?"

Even the mention of the new husband of his ex-wife couldn't damper his spirits right now, "Sorry sweetie, I won't be home until later tonight. You still have your key, right?"

"Duh," his daughter said and he could picture her rolling her eyes, "So," she said, drawing out the vowel, "Are you with them?" she asked trying to keep her tone disinterested but he could hear the excitement that bubbled beneath.

"Just one of them," Sam replied, "I was thinking we should go to the movies sometime," he offered trying to change the subject.

"Sure, I know Charlie wanted to s-" her voice paused for a moment, "Ohh, is it Mercedes!?" his ever astute daughter guessed as she was the only one he normally avoided talking about, especially, by name.

"Maybe," Sam said, the large smile breaking out across his face, equal parts embarrassed and proud she caught him.

"Tell her I said hi!" Katie said, "And when are you taking us to see one of their shows?"

The smile on his face slipped off, he didn't want to tell her his Katie said hi and never. Their shows tended to be places they served alcohol which was not somewhere he was taking his kids and that was exactly why he booked them in those places so he'd always have that excuse on hand.

"I will tell her," Sam said, he'd have to give her something, "I'll see you later tonight, love you," he said hanging up before she could hound him further about taking them to a show.

Sam hadn't looked at Sadie since the phone call started and even now he found something very interesting about that stone in the wall he now stared at. "She said hi." Sam said to the empty room, half hoping Sadie was still sleeping.

"Already late, might as well milk it."

Zeke slightly opened his eyes as he stretched out in his bed. It had been awhile since he had such a good night’s rest. He had been busy and for the first time he had nothing to do, but that didn’t sound right, actually it sounded completely wrong. He had set an alarm the night before, but what for? Zeke calmly rummaged through his memories of reality and dreams. Minor inconveniences could not ruin how comfortable he was at that moment, until he remembered.

“Auditions…” he said to himself through a sleepy moan. As if he was struck by Zeus himself, Zeke’s eyes shot open as he looked at the phone that betrayed him. He was certain that he had definitely set an alarm, and he did. As he touched the phone to turn it on, he cursed under his breath when he discovered it was shut off, or rather it was out of battery. You see, he had been struggling with sleep, so he tried one of those ASMR videos, but had he known his phone's battery would be the trade off he would have just pulled an all nighter. Worse part was that he could not even call anyone in advance and let them know he might be late.

“Stupid audition, with stupid people who can’t even band,” Zeke said while struggling to brush his teeth and put on his pants at the same time. With his phone out of commission he was forced to do the unthinkable and read a clock. He could hardly believe he slept that long. He vaguely recalled reading something that stated too much sleep actually hindered how rested one felt, but he had no time to deal with that. Zeke was in so much of a rush that he almost missed the snow falling outside of his window. “Are you serious? God hates me, he definitely hates me…I mean they could’ve canceled, jeez.”

Zeke put on a leather jacket and braved the harsh outdoors. It was a little irksome that he could not fit in his usual morning jog, but sacrifices had to be made. Zeke tilted his head back and sighed. In the comfort of Janice, his red Dodge Charger. He decided to take this time to calm down before he raged on a road full of ice. “Already, late…might as well milk it.”-Zeke logic. He did not know why he was worked up in the first place. He didn’t even have this many butterflies when he first joined the band; moreover, it was only auditions and they would probably be horrible. He was sure he would arrive before auditions, but he was pretty sure they were supposed to arrive a little early to help out and go over things. He just knew “Fancy”, the nickname Zeke had given Sam, would give him that look. That look of superiority mixed in with pity and disappointment. Thinking about it almost made Zeke crawl back in his bed and forget that their was a today in the first place. Zeke cracked his neck and shifted his car into drive. He wasn’t going to head straight to the audition. All screw ups knew that if you brought food, almost all things could be forgiven. Plus they would probably need something to stomach besides off tuned instruments and voices. Zeke would have ordered the food ahead of time, but a funeral was currently being held for his battery. With a small chuckle at a driver who recklessly cut him off he turned on his radio and started singing. All in all it was a good day. Maybe they would finally land that guitarist. That was when he realized he was wearing his jacket over his bear chest. He had left his shirt at home. “Damn it all…“

Zyon Gradio
「Hyper puppies are the devil.」

Tip: There is a hidden scroll on the body text! ^-^
The small trailer Zyon Gradio calls home happened to be chilly... No, more like fucking freezing. See, he didn't have heat outside of the rather unreliable space heater in his bedroom, which had turned itself off in the middle of the night. Again. He really needed to get that thing replaced, or better yet, actually get a better source of heat installed. Zyon himself was wrapped in several dark colored quilts, while on the floor beside the bed, another small being rested in a fluffy bed with a couple blankets on top.

Yip! Yip! YIP!!

Or maybe the puppy wasn't resting. "Oh come on..." Came a grumble from a lump in pitch black covers as Zyon shifted to look towards the blurry alarm clock. He determined it read something like '4:15 am'. "Go back to bed Arte, it's too early." The man grumbled out, then proceeded to pull the covers over his head and attempt to go back to sleep.

Bork!

There's a suspicious thump sound, presumably after Artemis misjudged her jump onto the bed and fell back the first time, followed by scuffling of blankets as she made it up the second time. A fluffy white bundle of energy wormed her way into Zyon's cocoon of covers and proceeded to wiggle her body up to Zyon's face...

Annnd then the once very sleepy Zyon found himself suddenly quite awake due to tiny puppy tongue covering his face with slobber. "Ugh Artemis! I'm awake!" His tone sounded very indignant, like he was annoyed about being forced to wake up. He wasn't really, nor was he grumpy at his puppy. She was too sweet to be grumpy at unless she does something really naughty. The covers were flung off his body, and Z immediately shivered. "Stupid heater, stupid winter, stupid cold." Muttering under his breath, he made his way quickly to his dresser and then bathroom to shower. A fluffy white 'duckling' followed him happily. There was a one sided conversation as he showered and all that hygiene stuff, and it went something like this:

"You realize when I'm too tired to stay awake at auditions and fall asleep, and probably make Sam grumpy, I'm gonna blame you missy."

Yip!

"Well at least we agree. I wonder if we'll find anybody today... Probably just a bunch of nobodies."

Yiip bork!

"Glad you're hopeful, cause I'm not. Finding someones gonna be like trying to find one of your toys you constantly lose. Impossible."

... Ruff!

Once Zyon was done in the bathroom, he headed to the kitchen to find some food. From the bucket of puppy chow he pulled a cup of food for Artemis and filled her bowl, then set about pouring some cereal for himself. It was still way to early to cook anyway. It didn't take long for the pair to finish eating, and after Zyon cleaned up, they headed into the living room where Z's bass guitar sat. He retrieved the space heater from his room and set it up in the living room. The hours after that were filled with Zyon playing his bass and Artemis playing with her toys, howling along with Zyon, and running around.

{beep, boop now to current time}

After a well-spent 5-6 hours, Zyon packed up his bass and took it out to his old but well running car. To most it was a bucket of bolts, but this car was one of his many gems. It was too cold and unsafe to take his real gem: His motorcycle that was equipped with a sidecar for Miss. Artemis, one of the last gifts from his final foster family. The motorcycle, not the side car. He saved up and bought the sidecar after he rescued Artemis. So he loaded up the car with both his stuff and some things to entertain the puppy and then got Artemis into her harness. It was waay to cold in the house and the space heater was too unreliable to leave her home. He didn't think the others would mind, nor did he really care if they did. With a final double check of the trailer house he called home, Zyon and Artemis hopped into the car and off they went.

It was a relatively quite ride, if you excluded the EDM playing in the background quietly so as not to hurt little sensitive ears. The speakers in this car can get quite loud. It didn't take long for the pair to arrive at the storage unit, but they still weren't the first there. Sadie and Sam had both arrived before them. Zyon parked the car and grabbed Artemis's leash, her bag of toys, and his bass then headed into the storage unit.

"Hey, hope you guys don't mind but I had to bring this little gal along today. It's too cold at home for her to be there alone." He stated in a i'm-not-taking-no-for-an-answer kind of tone as he walked in. Yip! It seemed like Sadie was chilling on a chair by the heater, and... he wasn't quite sure what Sam was doing. Maybe waiting for the wall to do tricks? Who knows. He wandered in farther and found a space not too close to the heater, so the band members still had space around it, but also not too far away, so Arte wouldn't freeze, to lay out the blanket he'd packed into the bag for Arte and then put down the bag on it's side for the puppy to take what she wanted out. "Play with your toys and be good, okay?" He mused to Artemis with a smile, then turned to the other two humans. Yiip! Great. Things were really looking fun. He was already bored just thinking about it.

A chair sounded like a great idea, so he grabbed one of the lawn chairs and brought it over by Artemis. He then sat down and took out his bass, which he proceeded to fiddle with lightly to entertain himself, at least for a while.

Melanie's hair was combed neatly, her eyes were lined perfectly, her lips were bright cherry red and she was sporting a pretty knitted choker, a thick, satin red dress, a pair of opaque black tights. She grinned at herself in the mirror, enjoying the outfit. Her apartment was heated but she could see that it was snowing outside so she grabbed her thickest winter jacket, the one with the fluffy faux fur hoodie, and headed for her door. Finally, their band was going to be complete. If Sadie didn't pick one today, she was gonna pick one herself and there wasn't a thing the girl could do about it. They had messed around too long, they needed to get to some shows, she was useless for band practice and garage sessions afterall.

Melanie took the lift to her minivan, which was like a mini studio in the back and it served as the bands mobile dressing room. There racks with half of Melanie's collection of clothes, draws full of makeup she had accumulated over many Christmas's and birthdays, several light stands and staging equipment. There was a lot of space for stuff but very little for other bodies so she usually kept a couple fold up chairs to set up out front for hair and makeup.

The van itself was second hand and very cheap. She invested all her money into her career and the bare minimum into things like grocerys and bills. She was frugal to the point where she'd go to 3 or four different shops before she found the cheapest deals so that she could afford all this. Her parents money was her parents money, not hers, and if that meant she had to study, work several part time jobs and take any cash job she could find so be it.

The van was rather old, however and it was always a bit of a task navigating the roads on the worn down shocks and slick tred-less wheels. Melanie was driving a manual too so she really had to concentrate. It was a fashionable death trap, really.

The air was bitterly cold but Melanie was beaming ear to ear as she greeted those who were already there "Hello hello!" She called as she parked out front "I've got the amp, and the camera so we can watch it back after, and a couple lights" she was already opening the van up as she spoke. She pulled out a camera in a camera bag and a tiny tripod and went to go set it up inside. She paused in front of Sam "Samson, how are you?" She said brightly "Would you mind helping me with the amp?" She asked politely.

Life couldn't go worse, but the sound of an alarm clock could annoy anyone. And would make the morning of a person miserable or that's what Alex thought the moment she woke up. It could be just another regular day, but today they had scheduled to have auditions to find the new guitarist for their band something Alex wasn't really excited about, having to spend hours having to hear untalented people that couldn't understand the difference between the different kind of music scales weren't worthy of her time.

She knew the audition would be full of guys or girls that just wanted to be part of the band just because that would mean they were cool instead of wanting to actually make music and Alex didn't have the patience to be around that kind of people, she thought maybe she could call sick or just tell them she had to cover up for someone on her part-time work but in reality she couldn't trust any of her bandmates to make a wise decision so she didn't have any other option rather than going.

She left her room just to find an empty house, her parents and sister were gone for another competition of Danielle once again without telling her if she at least wanted to go, not like Alex would be too happy to attend another music competition just being closer to an auditorium make her feel a shiver all around her body and she would rather avoid that kind of situation and it wasn't like her parents really wanted her to come after her small "accident" they stopped taking her to see her sister compete they couldn't be seen with someone that made them pass an embarrassment.

Alex wanted so badly to move out and live on her own but the money that she had saved from winning first place on piano competitions were taken away for her parents with the excuse that the money was meant to be used for her college, but since she didn't have the desire to attend a music college she didn't need the money and they would rather use it for her sister so she didn't have any money left and her part-time work didn't pay enough for her being able to afford a place on her own.

But she didn't want to deal about her family and her economic problems at that moment since she had enough having to deal with the audition that day. She left her house and rushed to the nearest bus stop her parents wouldn't be the kind of people to give her a car just and even less if she wasn't doing something useful for her future, so she was used to either taking the bus or the subway but it could be bothersome when it was cold or it was snowing like that morning but she would prefer taking the public transportation rather than asking one of her bandmates to bring her home.

Once she was near the storage unit Alex made a quick stop to buy some coffee and a muffin, she needed something to survive through the day but she didn't think of bringing something for her bandmates if they wanted something they could buy it for themselves she was not going to spend her money on them. Once she arrived she noticed the others were already there.

Alex didn't bother on apologizing for arriving late she just enter without making a big fuss and took one a seat that was a little bit farther than the others, she didn't want to bother Sam and Melanie who were too busy with their lamps and the cameras the girl brought and she wasn't feeling like talking to Mercedes in fact Alex didn't talk a lot to any of her bandmates she was just there because they needed a keyboardist and because she needed to have an income besides her part-time job. But it was until she saw something that didn't belong there in the first place "Why did you bring your dog? Last time I remember we use this place to practice not to use it as a petcare, that dog is only going to make waste our time today" She said annoyed at Zyon, maybe this day was meant to be awful.

Sadie could feel exhaustion tugging at the edge of her senses, trying to drag her into oblivion. She'd barely slept; how could she, after all, when it was the dead of winter and she had no heat? She hadn't told anyone in the band how badly she was struggling to keep herself afloat, with more than just staying warm. Rent was past due. She'd already been served an eviction notice. It sat currently folded up in the black messenger bag she carried around with her, stuffed somewhere in the front zipper section.

Where would she go? Sadie didn't even know. A hotel, probably. For a while, until she could find something else.

Someone entered the storage unit, disrupting her semi-slumber. Lifting her head, she had half a smile on her face-- until she saw Sam. The pair stared at each other in an uncomfortable silence for about half a second before his phone rang, interrupting any chance of a conversation they would have to force. It wasn't that they hated each other, per se... they just didn't see eye to eye. On anything. Where Sadie was a tornado, destroying everything that stood in her way to get what she wanted, he was more of a fire in a fireplace. Controlled and contained, but potentially dangerous if let out of his area.

Who had hired him again? She resisted the urge to groan, crossing her arms over her chest as she looked at the wall, trying to appear like she wasn't listening to his conversation. Suddenly much more irritated than she'd been not five minutes ago, she shot an annoyed glance as he said 'one of them'. She knew he meant her, and it bothered her that he wouldn't say her name. Why couldn't he say it? For that matter, why couldn't he have private conversations with his girlfriend on his own time?

The phone call ended a minute or so later, and he made an awkward attempt to break the silence. "Oh, hey." She shot back, her voice sugary sweet, her expression venomous. Thankfully, it was about that time that Zyon showed up, though he wasn't alone. Sadie recognized Artemis from previous practices and time spent with her bandmate, and her expression changed as the tiny white fluffball yipped excitedly.

"Hey, guys!" Sadie stretched her legs back onto the floor, leaning forward to greet them. Zyon set up a blanket for Artemis, then grabbed a chair for himself, settling not far from his dog. Sadie watched them for a few seconds, before recognizing the sound of Melanie's deathtrap. It wasn't much longer that she heard the girls voice as she burst into the storage unit. Always happy, that one. Well, happy or stressed, there didn't seem to be an inbetween.

Sadie waved to her, a small wave but a wave nonetheless. Alex breezed in without so much as a hello, causing Sadie to roll her eyes. Some of her earlier irritation returning, she shot the girl an annoyed look as she commented on Artemis. "She's better behaved than most people I know." Without meaning to, her eyes landed on Sam, but she quickly looked away. "Anyone heard from Zeke? I swear to god, I told him to set an alarm last night."

Sam's brow furrowed when it turned out that Sadie was very much awake and sometime between now and the last time he saw her, he had booted her puppy. At least, that is what he assumed he must have done because he wasn't sure what else could earn such a glare. It was like she was trying her best to put a few holes in his body armed with nothing more then those crystal blue eyes of hers, but if anyone could do it, it'd be Sadie. He took a single step forward and raised his hand to continue their 'conversation' with an equally layered tone but was interrupted when Zyon arrived accompanied by a white blur that zipped past his leg and to yip happily in the concrete room. Probably the only one happy to be there, at all. Sam eyed the puppy and the way its entire body seemed to bounce with each excited yip, he watched the ball of fluff for a moment before offering a shrug. The pup was here and there wasn't much he could do about it now, or would do about it. It wasn't a battle worth fighting even if it may make the interviews even more tedious then they were already going to be, however, Zyon had better have some bags to clean up the crap because he sure as hell wasn't doing it.

"I don't mind," Sam said finally giving voice to his stance on the pup as a bed was made for it. Luckily, Sam didn't have to endure any awkward silences as the familiar rattling of an engine filled the air, and despite himself, felt a smile slide across his face. He was glad she made it, especially with those tires of hers. He wondered how much of the way she drove and how much of the way she slid. His dark eyes followed her as she dug into the back of her fan coming out with the camera and a stand. She didn't even need to be here and already she had contributed more then the rest. When she drew near and greeted him, the only person he knew outside of his mother to call him 'Samson', the small smile filtered back onto his face. "Doing better now," Sam answered, "I'll grab and set it up, can't have you doing everything. It'd make me look bad," he finished, his eyes jumped to the very comfortable looking Sadie on her lawn chair who was occupied with her very difficult task of nothing.

It took him a moment to find the amp as, despite its size, the back of Melanie's van was crowded. It never ceased to amaze him the amount of work she put into it. He even spotted a few outfits he could recall some of the band members wearing at their last show. If the rest of the band had the organization skills and dedication of their designer, well, his job would be much easier and far more pleasant. Sam tucked the amp under his arm and closed the doors to the van, he took a moment to notice the tires and how bald they were. He frowned as he examined them as that was dangerous, he hadn't thought they were quite that bad. It only reminded him that the band needed far more cash flow then it was getting, if they didn't find a guitarist, and soon, Sam wasn't sure how much longer he could keep them afloat. He needed to figure out something, Sam didn't know how or what, but he would. Somehow. He always did.

Sam set the amp down in the back corner of the room as he didn't want it facing inwards towards the back wall as previous experience told him the last thing anyone wanted was to have bad guitar solos blared at them in a confined space, better to face it towards the door. He bent down to start setting it up when she arrived. He didn't see Alex, but he heard her. Sam paused in his work to look over his shoulder at the new arrival and was pleased to see that she, unlike a certain other band member, had properly dressed for the cold. He quirked an eyebrow up as she made her thoughts on the pup known and, well, he couldn't fault her. The puppy shouldn't be there and in a perfect world, it wouldn't be. Sam started to speak to diffuse the situation before it could grow out of hand but his mouth closed when Sadie spoke. For a moment, Sam thought she was insulting Alex, but then she glanced at him and it clicked. That little comment was meant for him. Sam raised an eyebrow at Sadie before going back to work. He had some choice words for her, but the last thing he needed right now was to pick a fight with the vixen as Alex and Zyon bickered about a dog. He'd finish setting up and then deal with the rest as that was his main job, after all, dealing with children.

"Damn," Sam hissed as he smashed his knuckles into the back of the amp. His hand had slipped when Sadie had decided to let them know that she had spent the evening with Zeke. Unwanted images flashed across his mind and he gritted his teeth as the familiar flare of irritation rose just as his stomach sank. His mood soured, Sam finished setting up the amp and gave his injured hand a few shakes to return feeling back to it, "I haven't heard from him," he said evenly doing his best to keep from saying something he'd regret, "I'm sure he is fine. Just overslept," his own words bringing another wave of irritation at the thought of why he likely overslept crept its way back into his mind.

Zeke didn’t know what everyone preferred for breakfast, and it wasn’t like he could call them with his phone being dead. In fact, he was certain that at least two of them wouldn’t even answer. “They’ll get over, its free for crying out loud,” Zeke said reasoning with himself after putting Janice in park. He had arrived at his destination...Krispy Kreme. Everybody who’s anybody knows bringing doughnuts is the morning equivalent of bringing pizza. If it was just Zeke, Z and Sadie, he might have gone with pizza anyway; however, he was still attempting to be socially acceptable. The door bell rang softly as he briskly walked in the donut shop to seek asylum from the bitter chill. “…Can’t believe its snowing out there. They call it snow, but it’s more like s-NO am I right?”

“How can I help you today,” the female cashier said with a half-hearted smile. You could tell she was already prepared to go home despite just clocking in a few minutes before Zeke had arrived.

“Well I thought it was funny,” Zeke glanced over all of the options available to him; however, he found it hard to commit to just a few. Licking his lips to keep himself from salivating, he tapped the glass as he chose what flavors would get him out of the dog house. “Glazed…that’s safe and boring so I’m sure Fancy and Alex will probably go for those. Strawberry might be nice, but that’s like putting sugar on a marshmallow. Chocolate’s not a bad way to go, but you gotta add the sprinkles or else it’s just weird,” at some point during his inner monologue he realized he was actually saying everything out loud. He shrugged it off as he smiled at the cashier who awkwardly returned the gesture.

“I’m in a band…gotta get em food,”

“I’m in a store…gotta make em food,” the cashier said sarcastically.

“Its too early...please,” Zeke mumbled under his breath. “So, could I get a dozen glazed. Make it another dozen, chocolate with sprinkles please.”

“Will that be all?”

“Uh, yeah anymore and I break into my rent money,” Zeke said jokingly.

“We have a job opening-,”

“THANK YOU I’M READY TO PAY,” Zeke said cutting the cashier off. He didn't need cash that bad. Once he paid, he nearly ran out of the store and leapt into his car. The only thing left to do was to put the plan into action.

The drive to the storage unit was…safe; after all, he was carrying precious cargo. When he arrived, Zeke looked towards the boxes of donuts in his passenger seat. At this point, they might as well have been his best friend. “Alright, here’s the moment of truth. I’m counting on you guys, and why the hell am I talking to my breakfast?” He surveyed the parking lot to see who was already there. There was no mistake, Zeke was late. He sighed and braved the gentle bombardment of icy fluff once again. Despite the brutal temperatures that came with snow, he actually liked it. For some reason snow seemed to have a calming effect with a hint of nostalgia. It was not that you remembered anything, but it made you want to remember things and smile. He grabbed the donuts and a gallon of orange juice he had brought from home before making his way inside.

“Sorry I’m late guys; my phone died, BUT there is a bright side, and it's filled with doughnuts and orange juice. You don’t have to thank me…much.” Zeke set his “saviors” down and went to go greet everyone. “Oh yeah one of those boxes only has ten. I got hungry on the way here.” It was the chocolate…it was always the chocolate…

「You wanna fight? Square up.」

Tip: There is a hidden scroll on the body text! ^-^
Zyon smiled in return to Sadie's greeting and nodded to Sam, thankful that he didn't have to fight either of them over Artemis being there. It was the next person after sweet Melanie came in that he apparently was going to have issues with. His eyes locked onto Alex as the girl entered, nothing more than an acknowledgement that she had arrived. That is, until she opened her mouth. Z's eyes narrowed at the girl, but he didn't retort right away. Sadie did that for him. He flicked a nod in Sadie's direction, as if to say he agreed with her. For the most part, that was true. Artemis was trained, well behaved. She knew how to ask to go outside if she needed to go to the bathroom, so they didn't need to worry about messes. Zyon might have to duck out of auditions a few times but that wasn't too bad. The pup had her toys, which were all silent and she would eventually calm down from her hype of being awake and out of the house.

"I really don't see why you have any sort of problem. Artemis is a. trained to not cause accidents in buildings and b. well behaved in general. She's not going to waste you peoples time, if anything it'll b me as I'll have to leave auditions a few times to take he rout quick to go. That doesn't affect you. Also, she's quite literally my only family. She's here because hey it's winter. My trailer is currently really cold and my heaters about as good a junk, which means I freeze. She's tiny compared to me, less body heat. She can't be at home, she'd literally be unsafe health wise. And, hey put two and two together and you should get the fact that I obviously can't afford to pay someone to watch her and all my friends are, wait... oh yeah, here with me. Still got a problem with my dog?" Zyon's tone was level the whole time he was explaining his reasons, and while some of it could come off as rude, he really wasn't trying to pick a fight yet. If he was, he'd be on his feet and in Alex's face. He was still seated so that was good, but he had a tell-tale glare to his eyes that showed his current temper was really not stable.

His attention snapped to Zeke as he entered, long enough to look as the donuts and frown a little. Glazed and Chocolate. Glazed was okay, he still didn't like it as it was still kind of sweet for him, but chocolate was a no go. He pushed the food to the back of his mind and focused on the problem at hand, which to him was Alex's attitude towards his puppy, who was currently minding her own business playing with a stuffed monkey on her blanket.

"Go n-éirí an bóthar leat, m'iníon." Her máthair softly whispered, placing a gentle kiss atop Marie's head.

Marigny Noelle closed her eyes for a moment taking in her mam's warm embrace before letting go. It was a big moment for her: make it or break it, or rather, at least, what she believed it to be. She never really performed in front of others unless one counted Scooby her German Shepherd or her strumming her guitar strings in the emptiness of the building when she closed the Cafe for the night. Although mam wanted to hear the songs she's been writing, Marigny Noelle didn't want to show her an incomplete work, so instead, they made a deal to sing lullabies together before bed every night as an ode to another day.

Smiling warmly at her mam who supported her through everything, Marigny Noelle couldn't be more proud of her mam's strength and courage so, she just hoped her mam sprinkled a little on her today, "Here goes nothing!"

"Oh, dear! Before you head out," Aileen started, squeezing her daughter's hand slightly as she laughed to herself. Making her way behind the counter, Aileen grabbed a warm jug with a logo of their Cafe on the front, "Share this with them. It'll keep all of you warm, especially on a day like this. Please be careful."

Shaking her head, Marigny Noelle couldn't help sigh, looking at her mam in awe, "Thank you, mam. You think of everything don't you? I'll call you as soon as I can."
latest

As Marigny Noelle arrived to her final destination, she took another moment to calm her mind and relax her erratic, beating heart. Inhaling and exhaling, Marigny Noelle could almost hear the echoes of her mam's words and even the voices of local customers who came into the Cafe frequently in her ears. She couldn't be more grateful for all of their loving support and kindness to her endeavors. Honestly, if Marigny Noelle could, she would have made an excuse to not come to the audition. However, perhaps it was time to face her fears. No more running away. No more wasting time. But, most of all, no more taking the easy way out. She would have to, at some point, put her feet in the water, or rather snow, and take a leap of faith. Besides, what's life without a little risk? Right?

But, as soon as she found the courage to open the door, she hesitated. What if. . . . it was a mistake? Maybe this wasn't such a good idea afterall. Who was she kidding? The moment she opened those doors and walked into the unit, her life would change. She had everything to lose, didn't she? What if she wasn't meant to be a musician? Much less be in a band? No. She couldn't think like that. Not when she knew she couldn't bare to see the disappointed look on the faces of those she cared about but also denying herself the feeling of an adrenaline rush. Everyone deserved a chance and in a way, she had more than one. Now's not the time to lose faith.

At the sound of someone clearing their throat, Marigny Noelle was pulled out of her thoughts. Slightly startled, the male scowled at her as she could feel the irritation radiating off the male's silhouette.

"Are you getting out or what, lady?"
"Right! Sorry. Here."

As soon as Marigny Noelle got out of the cab, the car zoomed out of the driveway without concerns. Marigny Noelle didn't blame the driver despite feeling slightly guilty for holding up his time. Nevertheless, she shook herself of the negativity and decide to change her "I can't" to "I can" and perhaps, if she said it long enough, she'd believe it. After a few more moments of delaying, Marigny Noelle shook off her nervousness once more and trudged forward. Off we go! She cheered to herself.

With each step she took, Marigny Noelle made sure she didn't spill the container filled with hot liquid as well as made sure her guitar was nestled safely in it's case. However, the young woman found herself getting slightly distracted as the sound of her feet crunching against the snow made her laugh every time. As she listened to the small noise she made with each movement she took, she couldn't help but think to herself, Huh, percussions and wind instruments could make this a neat rhythm.

Although she loved the cold, especially the snow, Marigny Noelle knew her máthair wouldn't allow her to be in the cold for so long in fear that she may come down with a cold or worse get sickly ill. Marigny Noelle loved her mam, but, at times, the older woman could be a bit overprotective. With a small giggle, Marigny Noelle shook her head before reaching the front door of the unit. Carefully opening the door, Marigny slowly made her way inside hoping she wasn't too late or too early.

But, who would have either thought that she not only found herself earlier than most, but in a strange and awkward place. What nice timing you have, you dolt!

Marigny Noelle could see that they had almost finished setting up, but seeing the band members up close and surrounding the area, the young female swallowed a nervous laugh or chuckle. Her eyes wandered around the room taking in each and every person inside. But, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she had interrupted something important and if this was a first impression, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but feel as if she made a bad one, especially when the door slammed loudly behind her.

"H-hi!" Marigny Noelle slightly yelled loudly as she instantly regretted calling out to them though she mentally hissed at the door's loudness. Well, too late to crawl back into her coat now, right? "I . . . um-" She started before clearing her throat as she found some confidence to continue again, "I brought some hot cocoa for everyone. It's really cold out so maybe it can warm us all up? Oh, silly me. Right. My name's Marigny Neolle Deòir. Nice to meet all of you! Am I too early? Should I come back a little later? Oh, maybe I should put the container down first . . ." She managed to get out, laughing nervously as she rambled until her voice droned out.

Oh, how she wish she could have stayed back in the cab. Her eyes wandered around, trying to avoid eye contact until her eyes found a male's ( Killi ) silhouette and she couldn't help but feel her face heat up. Almost as if had been burned, Marigny Noelle quickly whipped her head away from the almost shirtless male as her eyes landed on a puppy. A small "aw" escaped her lips but she resisted the urge to go over to ask if she could pet him or her.

"Don't worry, I make everyone I meet look bad!" She called teasingly over her shoulder at Sam as he went outside to help her setting everything up. She returned Sadie's wave but noted that she looked extreamly tired. She wondered if their lead singer was getting enough sleep? It would be troublesome if she was staying up late to party or go out. It wasn't really her place to ask as a staff member, but she could always ask as a friend at a later date. The girl found herself venting to Melanie a lot, so maybe she would bring it up anyway. There was a lot of hussle and bussle as Mel and Samson did their jobs and other band members talked and arrived. Alex arrived next, making a point to ignore everyone. It was her way, she was just too good for everyone. But she was committed, which was all Mel really needed from her. Unfortunately what she didn't need were arguments, which is just what Alex started. She had a problem with the dog. Melanie would rather him not be there either, but it did not matter enough that she would say anything to disrupt the group. The first arrivals would be here any minute and she didn't have time to deal with squabbling or they'd fall behind scheduled. Something that few in this room seemed to understand. "Alexandra, could I bother you for a moment?" She asked quickly trying to get her away from the potential fight she might pick if she'd let her respond to Zyon's rather wordy rant.

Melanie placed tape on the ground in an X shape "Would you please stand there so I make sure I have the frame right?" She asked her. It wasn't long after that another late arrival burst in "Ezekiel!! What on earth!?" She marched over too him, grabbed the donuts, set them aside and looked at him like he was in idiot "Go and stand by that heater I will get you a shirt! Are you trying to get sick?" She marched outside, grabbed a couple extra layers out of her truck and threw them at the boy "It's a good thing you brought donuts!" She told him, grabbing one of them, giving him a few "tut tut's" And went back to setting up the lights and configuring the camera settings.

Finally she was done, and not a moment too soon, as their first arrival entered the building brandishing hot cocoa and a very nervous persona. She and Sampson would surely fix that! "No, Marigny! As a matter of fact your timekeeping is on the dot! And you've done the coffee run for me already!" She turned to Sadie and winked "I like her already, don't you?" She said out loud as she took the Drinks off her with a warm smile and began handing them out to everyone "I'm Melanie, I do the tech stuff, as well as the hair and makeup, This is Samson, he's the boss man" She looked over at him expectantly to do the other introductions while she went over and fiddled with the lightstand. She noticed a certain someone STILL had not put his shirt on and she gave him a stern look.

"When you are ready and set, feel free to come stand on the X over there Marigne!" She would say when everyone was done with their introductions "And please, take your time!" She added, kindly

Even if Alex didn't care that much of the life of everyone else, in fact, she didn't care about what happened to them the environment in the storage unit was full of tension maybe it was the fact that they needed to find a guitarist as soon as possible otherwise they couldn't do that much but she didn't want to try and cheer up everyone else that was the work of Melanie, hers was only to play the keyboard and nothing else.

When Alex mention she was against of Artemis being there Alex noticed that Sadie was quite annoyed at the girl, Alex couldn't care less if Sadie like her or not, they came to have auditions for the guitarist not to take care of a dog. Alex took another sip of her coffee just before started to ramble about his dog, Alex just looked up at her phone while the guy continued talking about his dog and his living situation, explaining the whole situation wouldn't change Alex's mind about the dog.

She was about to reply to Zion with a snarky comment until Melanie took her chance and asked for help so the two wouldn't argue with each other. Alex rolled her eyes at the petition and stand up and walked towards the place Melanie told her but not after she was there she heard Melanie talking to Zeke about him not wearing a t-shirt "Maybe his brain cells froze just like Zyons trailer and that's why he forgot to put on a shirt" She said sarcastically as she grabbed one glazed donut and took a bite of it.

As she continued eating she heard the happy voice of someone that was really excited to be in a storage unit that only had one heater and being around all these people, she started rambling excitedly telling how she brought hot cocoa for everyone and how she was asking if she was too early for the audition. Melanie as excited as the new girl introduced herself and Sam. Alex moved away from the X that she was standing and went to grab one of the cups that Marigne was holding "You know, coming with that smile and bring us hot cocoa is not going to get you a place on the band but in any other case you can always be our errand girl" Alex said to the girl.

Sadie's eyes jumped to Sam at his muttered curse, quirking a brow in his direction. She wasn't sure if his voice sounded strained to anyone else, but it sure did to her. "I swear, he could sleep through a thunderstorm." She commented offhandedly, shrugging her shoulders. With a sigh, she pushed herself up and out of the lawn chair, placing one booted foot in front of the other until she'd reached the edge of the storage unit.

"No shit, speak of the devil." She laughed as she saw Zeke heading in, balancing two boxes of doughnuts and a gallon of OJ. She stepped out of the way as he made his way inside, eyeing the doughnuts with an interested eye. Shrugging again, she made a beeline for one of the boxes, grabbing a chocolate doughnut before turning to look at Zeke.

"Where the hell is your shirt?" She asked him, probably sounding like an overly worried girlfriend, when in reality she was coming more from a sisterly love type of direction. "You overslept, you're late, and you're shirtless? Tsk, tsk, tsk." Shaking her head, she broke a piece of the doughnut off and popped it into her mouth. "You're pitiful."

Meanwhile, Zyon was going off on Alex, but Sadie wasn't getting in the middle of that. Instead, she just continued to eat her doughnut. She'd made it about halfway through the chocolate piece of heaven before an unfamiliar face appeared, holding a container full of some sort of liquid, sprouting off words like she'd never had a full blown conversation before. Doughnut momentarily forgotten, Sadie just watched the girl until she finished, noticing her small 'aw' at the end when she noticed Artemis.

Melanie took care of Zeke's shirtless problem, introducing the band members one by one to the self conscious newcomer. As Mel winked at Sadie, the blonde scoffed, popping another piece of her doughnut into her mouth. "Someone had to." She agreed, about the same time that Alex made a comment about Zeke's brain cells. Sadie snorted, shaking her head. "Come on, guys, don't show your asses in front of the new people." She finished off her doughnut and brushed her hands off on her jeans, turning towards Marigne.

"You get props for the coffee, being early, and for liking Artemis." She didn't look at Alex, but the implications were there. "Give us a few, and you can show us what you got." She studied her for a moment more before turning away, back to Melanie and Sam, her eyes mostly on the latter. "How are things coming? And for god's sake, Zeke, put your damn shirt on!"

Things were going about as well as they always did and Sam felt more and more like a babysitter with each passing week. Sometimes, he almost preferred working with his other clients as at least then he'd get through an hour without needing to put someone on timeout, but perhaps it was what made this group special and drew him to them in the first place, but he could do with a break now and again, but heaven forbid they act like adults long enough to do that. It was almost like he had two sets of kids, his real ones and them. Sam nearly winced as Zyon went into a rather long venting about his housing situation including the fact he had no heat which was not something he knew. He had to go and get another space heater for the lot anyways, so it wouldn't hurt to grab another one, it wasn't his job to do it but he was supposed to keep them together and the band alive, letting one member freeze wouldn't help... Or, at least, that was a good enough excuse for now. Sam had the faintest hope that, perhaps, the vent would be the end of it, get out his feelings and move on, but the sheer indifference Alex displayed was almost impressive. She never once looked up from her phone, and he wasn't sure what was worse, ignoring Zyon like that or yelling back. In Zyon's place, Sam knew he'd prefer someone to fight him and butt heads with him even if it annoyed him to no end, his eyes jumping to Sadie for a moment before back to the two of them, as such obvious contempt would be like dumping oil onto a fire.

He didn't get his chance to say much though as Melanie was to the rescue. Calling over Alex, and he could only imagine how happy she was about that, to help her. She didn't need the help, but it was just to break them apart for now. Sam gave in to the desire to rub his temples with his bruised hand, Melanie was one of the bright spots in his work, at least she kept everyone from murdering one another and she did it much better then he did as Sam wasn't as kind as she was... Well, perhaps he was, at times, but not at work. Work was work and he had yet to master the balance between kindness and efficiency like she had. Sam wasn't sure what life would be like without Melanie's help and he was very glad he didn't have to find out, hell, maybe he should reach out to her to help with the other clients as if she could help keep this ragtag together, she'd do wonders in groups that weren't held together with duct tape and prayers. Alex was something he needed to look into. She wasn't a part of the group. She was 'in the band', but not truly. They meant nothing to her and while he liked her professionalism when she wasn't giving the others a set down, even if some really needed it like Sadie, Alex was the most likely to jump ship. The others might in a very intense moment, but they'd come back. Alex? If Alex left, as she was right now, she'd be gone. Despite his disapproval of Sadie's and Zeke's relationship, extreme disapproval, or questions over what Zyon did in his free time, Alex was member he was most worried about bringing it all crashing down. It was a dilemma he hadn't figured out how to solve yet and he wasn't sure he would. Someday it was going to come to a head and all he could do was hope he'd be strong enough, and capable enough, to pull everyone through it.

Sam's thoughts came to an abrupt end when Zeke arrive. His dark eyes jumped over his body. To his goofy smile that showed a complete lack of sense and awareness, to the offerings in his hand as he tried to buy forgiveness like a man would buy indulgence from the church for his sins, to the fact he wasn't wearing a shirt but was wearing a jacket. In winter. Multiple thoughts passed his mind in such a flurry he didn't have time to process them: How simple can a man be that he didn't notice he didn't have a shirt on in winter? What substance did Zeke normally take to addled his mind to such a degree and what would Sam have to do to stop that? Why did he even have on a jacket if he was not wearing a shirt and left the jacket open? It was even more dumb and mind boggling then wearing jeans with holes in them with a jacket? The comparison brought another barrage of inappropriate images of Zeke and Sadie that only enraged him further because it was another breaking point in the group that shouldn't even be there in the first place if they thought with their heads instead of their, metaphorically in the case of one, dicks. His eyes fell to his abs and somewhere his subconscious made a mental note to get a new gym subscription as if he felt some childish need to compete and it all added up to a blank stare as his mind worked through all the thoughts, images and emotions.

"I don't even," Sam said as he closed his eyes and, once again, rubbed his forehead before drawing his hand through his hair and down his face, "The sheer stupidity, I have no words, Zeke. You've... I don't.. no words," he finished as he gave up, his tongue just as jumbled as his mind.

Once again, it was Melanie to the rescue as she was, far less disturbed then he was, and tossed him a shirt from the back of her van, "Thank you Melanie," Sam said, feeling far less frustrated then he had now that Zeke could cover up and one massive annoyance was fixed before he even had to really step in, "I don't know what I'd do without you," he said smiling for the first time in what felt like forever. Truly, he'd be lost if she wasn't around to back him up and take care of things like this. Alex's comment on freezing brought a small chuckle from it, "You're implying he had any to freeze in the first place," Sam said, "But thank you for getting something for breakfast," he added and meant it. After it was all said and done, he had planned on buying everyone lunch partly because he knew some would try to go without eating because they couldn't afford much and the other because it would, if they were ever so lucky, help bond them with a new band member, but that last part was a bit of wishful thinking.

When the first of their aspiring members joined, Sam's heart plummeted to his shoes. He knew her. She worked at a cafe he often took his son and daughter to, his son liked to hide in the booth and bury his noise in his phone, but his daughter was as chatty as ever. He'd seen the two of them speak and had even spoken to her a few times as well, Marigny. It was not a name he heard often, but he didn't like it. Not one bit. She knew him outside of work. She had seen his kids. She had seen the other Sam. She was just like she always was, a ray of sunshine that was being bounced around a bunch of mirrors, it was endearing as she always was. She met with mixed reception, the standard cold indifference from Alex and a much warmer reception from Sadie, it surprised him even though it shouldn't have. Sadie could be nice, just, to other people that weren't him he felt something almost akin to pride but a bit warmer at that extra bit of effort taken to make Marigny feel welcome. Perhaps she wouldn't recognize him, she had to deal with hundreds of customers a day, surely he wasn't that... surely, there were plenty of tall men with very long hair that looked just like him with a daughter that loved talking her ear off.... Probably not.

Sam did his best to keep his face straight as he introduced the band, hoping against hope that she wouldn't recognize him, or failing that, not do very well and they can jump past her audition without anything coming to ahead even as he felt like scum because of that thought, "As she said, I am Samson, feel free to call me Sam," he gestured to each person as he named them, "The man who can't remember to put on a shirt, and probably tie his shoe laces, is Zeke who is our drummer. The puppy belongs to Zyon over there who is our bassist, the bundle of sunshine and friendship is Alex, and be glad you caught her on a good day, on keyboard," he said dryly before motioning to the last member, "And this, is Sadie, the vocalist."

He sat down in the vacant lawn chair, taking the spot Sadie had been before she left to grab a donut, it was a desperate attempt to put on a bit of a professional air to help distance himself from whatever memory of him may be lurking in Marigny's mind "The amp is set up and ready to go," he said answering her question, and as a bonus, he got to steal Sadie's seat.

"Do I even belong here?"

It was a question that he had begun asking himself whenever he didn't have anything to occupy his mind. He never lacked confidence, but reality was often more harsh than the darkest of lies. Perhaps it was just something that came with the territory of being the drummer. You were the heart, the soul, but no one really cared about those things until they were gone. With the departure of that guy it only became more evident as attaining gigs became harder and harder. Any one of the band mates could probably do fine on their own If the band broke up. Sadie was a singer. Alex could go classical if she chose, and as for Noelle, if you get any cute girl with a guitar you're a millionaire. Zyon was probably the only other bandmate who would understand since being a bassist wasn't the most attractive gig. Unlike the rest, they NEEDED the band, or at least a band. The past few days started to make him question that even more. Looking back on it he had wished he wasn't right about...basically everything. Nevertheless, it wasn't all doom and gloom. Sadie wasn't really the same since, but his experiences with his other bandmates were always hilarious. Even Alex became likeable...in the weirdest way possible. From the Antics with Zyon, Noelle's optimism, and Alex's demands he was able to keep his spirits high.

He found himself staring at the mirror for a long time, gazing at the bruises and a small cut near the top of his eye. He placed a bandage over it and decided that the other bruises, although their were few, were not enough to cause alarm. During the past month Zeke had sought a way to earn extra money and what better way to do that than to enter an underground fighting league. He tried to get a normal job first, but he quickly discovered he didn't have the temperament for things like that. You would soon discover just how many dumb questions people actually had in their head on a daily basis. 'Where's the milk,' Seriously? Is this your first time in a store? Walk around for like 20 seconds and you'll find it. Like seriously, very dumb questions. Anyway, he had won all of his fights so far, but they often came at a price....a good price in fact. Despite the risks involved, it was a good way to earn money, and let out troublesome emotions. At the very least he didn't have to worry about rent for the next few months...That's when he got the text.

"FINALLY, its about damn time," Zeke said as he practically danced out of his bathroom. It felt like old times. His happiness soon subsided as he realized what he would have to do. He flipped through his phone and found Alex's name in his contact list and sent her a message.

Alex you need a ride.

In a blur swirl of red and black, Marigny Noelle's ears perked as she turned her attention towards the source of the cheerful voice. A smile made its way towards Marigny Noelle's lips as she inwardly sighed in relief to hear that her timekeeping was on the dot. Perhaps she was off to a good start! Tilting her head to the side, Marigny Noelle listened to the woman's voice as she watched her move to and fro. Although the short-haired female seemed to be bouncing from one place to the next, preparing for the auditions, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but note the fluidity in the woman's movement. Was she a dancer? Regardless if she was or not, Marigny Noelle was in awe of the grace and poise she observed in Melanie.

As Melanie introduced herself, taking the drinks from her hands, Marigny Noelle nodded, taking in the information given to her. Tech stuff, hair, and make-up. Got it. Marigny Noelle couldn't help but feel as if her job suited Melanie being as vibrant as she was. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Melanie!"

However, when Melanie mentioned her impression of her towards a band member, a woman whom she must also impress, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but feel her cheeks heating up at her comment. She liked her already? Her smile only widened even more as she took in the compliment. But, the moment Melanie introduced the "boss man", Marigny Noelle's heart stopped for moment. Samson. . . had she heard that name before? Nevertheless, her attention drifted off in the direction Melanie had pointed towards as she gazed ahead.

However, before she could get a good look at her potential boss. . . Samson, a cold chill ran down her spine as looked over towards a new voice. As the female took an empty cup from her hand, she blinked slightly, feeling intimidated yet intrigued at the beauty before her. Although Marigny Noelle had met with people from all walks of life, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but stare at the female for a moment in disarray before hearing the female's honest words.

A small laugh escaped her lips as Marigny Noelle shook her head, "Yes, I understand it wouldn't, but, Mam likes to send out treats such as hot cocoa or sweets whenever she can." She paused for a moment, smiling, "Hearing those words. . . that only makes me feel even more amped up to give it all that I've got! Thank you."

Soon, another female's voice piped in and Marigny Noelle turned over to look towards her. Another woman whom she definitely felt small and intimidated by approached yet something inside her ignited a spark. Marigny Noelle couldn't help but internally giggle, feeling giddy despite the mixed emotions she was receiving from the band members. It was chaotic and there was definitely a commotion between the band members as she felt the tensity in the air, but Marigny Noelle tried her best to not let the swirl of emotions get to her. However, she couldn't help but be reminded of the Cafe at lunch hours. Oof! Those times definitely worked her to the bone! Nevertheless, she couldn't help but feel as if there was a hidden feeling among the band members. . . something akin to being. . . fun.

Brought out of her thoughts, hearing the warm words of encouragement: show us what you got, the female's words only made Marigny Noelle feel even more determined to show everyone in the room she had talents and skills to be in the band. She wanted to be a part of something big and wanted to belong. Will they accept her? Marigny Noelle couldn't help but feel her self-confidence rising once more as she shook off the cobwebs and nerves. She needed to give it her all and Marigny Noelle knew nothing was going to stop her from doing so . . even if the certain someone, despite everyone's scolding, still wasn't wearing a shirt. Marigny Noelle grinned, "You bet!"

But, as she left, Marigny Noelle was now greeted by none other than whom she believed was Samson. For a moment, Marigny Noelle stared at the male for a while, her thoughts not processing anything that she's seeing. Almost as if her head was spinning with adrenaline rush and happiness, Marigny Noelle's thoughts swirled in different directions as she just zoned out for a moment. Blinking back her surprise, for a brief second, Marigny Noelle was about to lift up her hand to wave at him with excitement or even squeal at the prospect of knowing someone. But, realising that might be a mistake on her part and unprofessional, Marigny quickly brought her hand back down hoping no one would notice the familiar look she gave Sam. Yet, at the same time, when Sam introduced himself, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but feel slightly ashamed or embarrassed for ever thinking they were close enough for her to call out his name so familiarly. Perhaps it wasn't the same Sam she knew at the Cafe with his kids and the Sam before her now just eerily looked like him. Whatever the case may be, Marigny Noelle gave a small smile towards Sam knowing that he could potentially be her boss and a case of mistaken identity might case her to lose her place on the band. She couldn't have that.

As hard as she could, Marigny Noelle dismissed the case and decided not to bring it up . . . or at least not now. But, as Sam continue to introduce each of the band members, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but let out another small laugh at hearing Ezekiel's introduction. So, that's his name? How clumsy. However, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but feel bad wondering if the male was embarrassed for being loud capped so much for forgetting a shirt. . . in winter. Was he not cold? Or maybe he was the same as her: the adrenaline rush just takes all the other feelings away. Next in line was Zyon with the puppy, Artemis, she believed was the puppy's name. A smile made her way towards her lips as she nodded towards the male. He had been quiet for a while and she wondered if he was reserved or just didn't want to be at the auditions. Nevertheless, Marigny Noelle tried not to let her mind wander too long as she was introduced to Alex, the woman whom mentioned that if all else failed, she could be their errand girl. The thought of being an errand girl was definitely not something she wished for since she already did that currently. But, just knowing and realising she wants to be much more than a "second-hand" player, Marigny Noelle was pumped.

On a good day? Marigny Noelle tilted her head in confusion for a moment but decided not to ask what he meant by such. Regardless, lastly, Marigny Noelle turned to face Sadie, the female she just recently spoke to as she couldn't help but gaze around the room, observing each of the band members once more. What an aura! Nodding at both Melanie and Sam's words, Marigny Noelle nodded, "X marks the spot, huh?" She questioned rhetorically, giggling softly as she slowly took out her guitar from her case and looked over towards the amp.

However, before Marigny Noelle could grab her guitar in her hand as it was still in its case, she looked up only to be greeted by Ezekiel. Tilting her head curiously in wonder, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but question to herself on why he came over to introduce himself to her when Sam had already done so. Is there any misunderstandings? Or was he just being polite? Or is this his way wanting to officially greet her than having a messenger? However, at him mentioning that he wouldn't mind her being his errand girl, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but huff slightly. Rolling her eyes playfully, Marigny Noelle couldn't help but figure out Ezekiel. He was surely someone different than she imagined and she couldn't help but want to figure him out. He was surely a whirlwind. However, before she could even get a word in, which was a first for the chatty Marigny Noelle, she blinked back her surprise when Ezekiel wanted to trade hot cocoa for donuts. Even if she was going to be in the band or not, he treated her kindly and even went as. far as to let her know that she could ask him for help, depend on him. Her heart skipped a beat for a moment.

Marigny couldn't help but laugh, "I don't remember the last time I traded food with. . . . a potential band mate or. .. friend?" She questioned softly, though "friend" came out as a whisper.

Nevertheless, as he turned away and shouted towards everyone in the room about his. .. . situation, Marigny Noelle looked away once more, flushing slightly as she quickly got her guitar wrapped around her silhouette and headed towards the stage, plugging in the amp into her guitar as she stood on the "X". But, before she could start playing or introducing herself formally in the center, Ezekiel's voice rang once more as he sat by the drum. Blinking back a surprise, Marigny Noelle turned towards in concern as she headed over towards him, "Are you alright, Killi?" She questioned, looking at him in concern before realising her mistake. "I mean . . . no, actually, you're Killi." Marigny Noelle grinned, feeling more confident, as she tried not to laugh, "In return for saying you wouldn't mind me being your 'errand girl'."

Without waiting for Killi’s response, Marigny Noëlle giggled and waved him goodbye for now. ”Please be careful with the hot cocoa. If I make it in, I’ll buy you a cold one, my treat?” At those words, Marigny Noëlle walked back towards the center and stood upon the X.

With a deep breath, she inhaled and exhaled, closing her eyes for a moment as she got into her zone, readying herself. This was it. No going back now! As she opened her eyes, Marigny Noelle’s gaze lifted, as she calmed her nerves and spoke clearly, ”Hello, everyone! My name is Marigny Noëlle Dior and for this cold, cold morning. I prepared for you this track.”

Without further ado, the young woman delicately draped her fingers across the strings of her guitar as she made sure the amp was plugged into the speakers. And with a nod, Marigny Noëlle began playing, her hands gliding across the guitar in fluids melody at the beginning of the song before leading up to the small riffs. Thankfully, she practices enough hand excercises and played everyday or else she knew . . . cramped up and sore hands would be the least of her problems. But, with each key she played and as the song continued on, Marigny Noelle’s aura changed as time passed. Her nerves melted away and she was having the time of her life, moving to the music fluidly as she played and sang to one of her most favorite songs. Misery by Paramore. It was just her and her music as she allowed her melody and emotions to flow and express.

「Well, guess we found the lost needle in the hay?」

The fact that Alex seems very focused on her phone during his entire explanation made his teeth grind. There were some days, he was very tempted to literally knock the girl on her arse. He swore if Samson or Melanie weren't there to stop him, he really would too. It probably wouldn't help, but that would definitely let out some frustration towards her attitude. He had a slight glare on as he watched Alex move over to Melanie. With a shake of his head, he focused on his bass again. That is, until someone else entered the building. He set the instrument aside to watch the interactions quietly, one hand busy now playing tug-of-monkey with Artemis. The puppy was losing, fyi.

His glare returned again when Alex opened her big mouth to speak to the newcomer, but he let it go as the other girl seemed to take it as a challenge instead of an insult. Ma... something or another. He didn't quite catch the name, so he opted to pick something to mentally nickname the girl until he actually learns it. She kind of reminded him of...a Faerie. Yes. That would work. A resilient and quite brave faerie but one nonetheless.

Zyon snapped from his yet again distracted state when Zeke yelled out about chocolate being hot. All Z had to say to that was a face palm. That was his friend alright. He was just glad Zeke's stupidity at time hadn't infected him yet. He'd missed the introductions, go figure, but he focused his attention on the audition anyway. He didn't really offer any smile back to Faerie as he caught her smile, but he was attentive. A step forward. He stopped playing tug of monkey with Artemis and the puppy tumbled backwards when he let go of the toy. Zyon was unconcerned as she was tough little gal. As Faerie took her spot on the X--Zyon caught her name this time but decided he liked Faerie better so he was calling her that instead--and supposedly steadied her nerves, he took a second to glance to his band-mates, gauging their faces.

His eyes snapped back to Faerie though as those first few rifts of a song he knew, and he just stared in surprise. He was not expecting that. The little Faerie could play guitar well, and her change in attitude was impressive. By all means, he was fairly certain they'd found their guitarist. He looked to Samson, Sadie, Zeke, Melanie, and then to Alex in turn as the song neared its end. And at the end, he stayed flabbergasted by Faerie's abilities. Someone else was quite impressed too, but that was easy to do. YIP! A little white fluffy ball of fur attempted to run past Zyon towards Faerie, all tail wags and slobbery tongue. He caught Artemis before she could get in the way and held her in his lap, but she was obviously ecstatic by all her wiggling.

The Auditions were a little bit limited by the snow, it seemed. Only the dedicated, turned up, all of them thinking they were good, only some of them actually being good. There was a range of personalities, cocky being the predominent one, anxious coming in second place. Marigney had been Melanie's personal favorite. She liked her mellow personality as well as her change in attitude as she took to the stage. Whilst Melanie was no musical genius, the girl had made her imagine the whole band around her. There were a few that came very close in skill, but none of them seemed to gel as much personality wise. Melanie personally really didn't want a pre-madonna or an aggressive personality. But she had already decided that she was going to stay out of the decision (Unless the decision was none of them, in which case she would have words. It was early afternoon when the cut off had been posted for the auditions and Melanie had begun to pack up. She thought it had been a great day, hopefully the band would come to a decision. She told them all that they should meet in the public library the next day as she had hired out one of their meeting rooms so that she could use the projector to show them the videos. The only reason was she wanted to have them properly filed and easily accessible on her computer rather than trying to have a whole band huddled around her tiny laptop, or worse still, the camera screen.

Melanie also had to work tonight, through till early morning so she hoped that everyone would allow her to meet them at the library around midday, probably giving her at least 4 or 5 hours to sleep. Later that night, she had donned a simple black turtleneck, black slacks and a shiny name tag with her name next to the logo of the tiny Chinese supermarket that she was working nightfill at. She worked with one other young man there called Benjamin, who had the personality of rock, and the night was long and strenuous replenishing stock, and making lists and completing paperwork. It was about 3am when she was finally released. With bleary eyes, and a lump of cash in her pocket which the manager had left for her in the staff room, she drove home. On her way, she struggled to keep her eyes open, so she blared loud music to help keep her occupied. At one moment during the drive she closed her eyes a split second then heard a loud BEEP from a car behind her as she had nearly swerved into his lane and hit him. Her heart in her throat and apologizes that he obviously couldn't hear on her lips, Melanie took it very slow the rest of the way home but even so a few times at lights she had began breaking too late and skidded into what would be a car if there was one there. This van was seriously going to kill her. She needed so much focus to drive it safely. She could spend ALL of last weeks pay on new wheels but then her rent would be a week late and she had a PERFECT record.

Stress ate at her, and she knew that for a while at least she could not sleep so she decided to just get her work done now. She plugged in her cam-corder and began the upload to the computer. In the half-hour that would take she sat and stared at prices for tyres to see if she could find one she could afford "Waa..." She covered her head with her hands. Maybe she could pay for it now and get rent with her credit card, but she really didn't want to pay the interest. Maybe she would just have to set aside some money and then get them next week. Her rental history had to be perfect. She wanted to ask her mother for help, and she knew her mother would help her but... it didn't feel right. It was her decision to move out, this would feel like a defeat. Melanie also checked her fridge and pantry, she had a fair amount of food "This can last me two weeks If I am careful... then I can get the tyres next week.

The upload finished and Melanie spent the next hour naming every single video after the singer, which meant PLAYING every video and finding where they said their name. Luckily she had made sure to ask all of them on video if they didn't say it to "Please state your name for the camera". It only took her so long because she kept making typos due to exhaustion and having to fix them.

FINALLY, Melanie was able to pass out, work done, plan formulated for money, rent money transfered. As soon as she hit the pillow at 4:32am, she was out cold. The next morning she woke to her alarm which had been set for 10am. 5 and a half hours sleep, not bad. She couldn't let her exhaustion show, of course, so she may have overcompensated a little and put on somethi g too bright. Tarton jacket, bright red in colour, underneath a colloared matching tarten dress with thick winter tights and a pair of ankle boots. On her face: cherry red glossy lips, black and white earings and a silkey black beret to top it all off. with some foundation to hide the dark circles and a few minutes making faces in the mirror to amp herself up, she was off.

After first making herself a scolding hot americano in her thermo mug, she made her way down to her van, laptop and phone in hand. The Library was pretty close to her house and she had spent many days there when she was doing her course, so the librarian knew her by name "Melanie! Lovely to see you! Your room is ready for you, and don't tell anyone but I've taken care of the small fee for you, I didn't get you a birthday gift last year!" Melanie honestly felt SO relieved to hear that, she almost went behind the counter to give the peppy blonde a hug "OH thank-you! You are honestly a savior! Rent has hit me hard but duty calls!" She said with a grin "I'll treat you to coffee later this week Meg!" She called with a wave as she disappeared into the room to set up the projector to work with her laptop.

Alex hated every minute of the auditions, but thankfully there wasn’t a lot of people due to the cold weather and the people that went were not extremely talented just the regular like everyone else. She knew some of the members would have the idea that some of them were amazing but in reality they were something that you could see everyday, there wasn’t someone that really caught her eye and it was because Alex was really picky and wanted nothing more than perfection.

As the auditions were over Alex rushed to her partime job, something none of the members knew she just leave the place with the excuse that she was busy and couldn’t stay long. She really needed to find another job because she was at her limit on the job she actually had, she couldn’t stand working in a place where everything was a mess and everyone blamed the othe for their mistakes and she was sure that soon she would be fired since the manager of the store wasn’t really fond of her and to be honest Alex wasn’t really fond either of her boss but she needed the money.

After her job was over she wasn’t really excited of going back to her home, but she didn’t had what would others consider friends and she would get more annoyed just by spending time with her bandmates, she was only hoping that her parents and sister were still out of town, but she wasn’t lucky her parents were there and dinner was as awkward and uncomfortable as always, her parents making clear that Alex’s sister would be someone with a future as she would be no one because she gave up on her future.

The next day as always Alex wake up alone in the house her parents were at work and her sister was probably at school or in her music school, she remembered they would meet later to discuss the auditions and Alex knew that she was going to have a critique with every person that went yesterday to the audition but meanwhile Alex took the opportunity to play the piano even if she gave up on being a professional pianist she still loved playing it and remembering all the music pieces she used to play.

Alex lost track of time and realized that she need to leave soon otherwise she would be late and she didn’t had the option to arrive on her own car since she didn’t have one and the bus was her principal way of transportation. As she arrived at the library she realized she was the only besides Melanie who seemed pretty excited for choosing finally a guitarist and set everything so they could see the auditions tapes, Alex couldn’t understand why the effort since must of them sucked in her opinion. “You choose a library from all the places in town so we could have a reunion and you realize none of them can be quiet for more than five minutes? You know what being here was a brilliant idea at least the ones with brain would actually know what a library and lets be honest there are not really brilliant people in our band” she said as she took a seat annoyed of having to see everyone that audition again “If anyone here chooses that guy that didn’t know the difference between a tone and a semitone I’m leaving this band. I can’t be surrounded by idiots” she added annoyed.

Mercedes Zabielski
Sadie turned, only to notice that someone had taken up residence in the seat she’d previously occupied. Her eyes narrowed, and she cocked one hip to the side, placing her hand on it as she did so. “You’re in my seat.” She told Sam, lifting a brow in his direction.

Sam tilted his head as if he was pretending to give what she said thought, "Then get a new one," he said and offered her a small shrug as if to dismiss her observation and complaint in one motion and turned his attention back to the band.

Never one to back down from a challenge, Sadie knew what she was going to do before the thought even completed appearing in her mind. Shrugging one shoulder nonchalantly, she placed one booted foot in front of the other until she stood in front of him. Then, without warning, she spun and plopped down onto his lap, shifting until she got comfortable. “We need less lumpy furniture.”

Sam's body tensed with every step she took. He had no idea what she was going to do, but he didn't like the way her jaw tensed or that almost gleam in her eye whatever it was she was planning, it wasn't good. His caution proved worthless as never, in his most unwanted dreams, did he expect her to spin around and plop herself onto his lap. He nearly tumbled backwards off the chair but he was far too stunned to even do that.

Before his mind could even come to terms with what was happening he was smacked with a few realities: She smelt surprisingly good whatever she used in her hair, well, she should keep using it and the way she shifted in his lap was quickly leading to something that'd he'd never be able to live down. Sam gripped her waist to try and limit her movement as best he could as she settled in. Sam rolled his eyes as she made less then kind choices about how comfy he was, five years without someone almost made it far more lumpy then it currently was and she was just lucky he had some semblance of control. "You're always a pain in my ass," Sam said, his arms looping around her waist to sit somewhere a bit more comfortable as he found balance, "So consider this payback."

Sadie didn’t give any thought to how her shifting affected him or would affect him. To be fair, it had been a while for her as well; what guy would want to come back to her shifty little trailer that she was in the process of being evicted from? And despite what people may think, she had standards. She felt his warm hands grip her waist as she settled, and she shot him a glance over her shoulder. “Shouldn’t have taken my seat.” She shrugged, looking forward again, shifting once more-- accidentally-on-purpose stepping on his foot in the process-- before stilling. She hadn’t expected his hands to loop around her waist in an embrace that she hadn’t expected from him at all. It was something she’d expect from Zeke, perhaps, considering their closeness. But not Sam. She looked down at his arms, for a moment stunned into silence. It didn’t take long for her to recover, crossing her arms across her chest as she turned her head just enough that he’d hear her. “Fine. Then it’s payback.”

"Glad we agree, on something," Sam said as he took this moment to look around the space as he just now realized where they were and there were other people around. It was disconcerting, for a moment, he had forgotten all about... everything. He looked over to Zeke for a moment as a part of him expected the man to say something, his girlfriend was in the lap of another man even if that man was him and the furthest thing from what a woman like Sadie would go for but nothing. A smaller part, a treacherous little voice he ignored, whispered how well she fit there, but it was nothing more then five years of abstinence speaking. He should push her off, or move, but he found he didn't want to. The only logical answer to that was he didn't want to back down to her and let her think she had won this, so he settled down for the rest of the auditions and didn't notice that, at one point, he had let his chin rest on her shoulder.

“For the first time in what, ever?” Sadie quipped back, turning her head towards the audition space again. Unlike Sam, she didn’t notice the others in the room, whether they stared or barely cast them a glance. After all, she and Zeke weren’t dating. The two of them would probably end up killing the other if they actually tried to date, but Sam wouldn’t think that, especially if he already thought they were together. But since she had no idea about any of this, she didn’t let the looks or lack thereof bother her. The first audition was definitely the best one. Marigny was amazing; there was no way around that. The vibe she put off flowed nicely with the rest of the band, but since they couldn’t just offer her the spot right there, they had to go along with the rest of the audition. Little as they were. At some point, Sadie grew acutely aware that Sam’s chin rested on her shoulder, and she realized it must have been there for a few minutes at least. “I liked the… third guy? Fourth guy?” Sadie shrugged once everyone had cleared out, leaving just the band members. “Couldn’t play for shit, but damn, those arms…”

His fear that they'd find no one as good as Marigny was quickly realized as the last person packed up. Some were decent players, but there was no way they'd fit in with this ragtag bunch of outcast and they'd be leaving soon enough. Marigny ticked both boxes, she was a greater player and had a personality that would overlook the numerous shortcomings of the others. He'd review the tapes, but Sam knew he had been bested by fate. He was going to have to endure the wonderful sensation that was having his 'true' life and work life thrown together, put through a blender and dumped all over the table. It didn't matter that he had spent his entire life fighting exactly this, the world wanted that blender and there was nothing he could do to stop it. He also realized that despite being annoyed with some of the auditions, and the length of them, he was distinctly.. comfortable. Even after the hours that passed, he had no real desire to move outside of that slight ting in his back, he really was desperate for physical contact, maybe he'd look into doing something about that because the last thing he wanted was to cause a misunderstanding with someone in the band, especially with the woman in his lap who was one of the worst in the lot.

Whatever peace was established was utterly ruined when Sadie opened her mouth which is usually what happened. He started to enjoy something, Sadie spoke, everything went to shit. His jaw clenched as something very sharp pierced his chest, "Great. You have his number, give him a call," Sam said, using his patented 'you're fired, don't make this a scene' voice and he knew one other thing, he wanted her off him. Now. He straightened his legs to make a ramp of his body, unfolded his arms from her waist and gave her a strong shove in the back.

"Who would you know which was the guy that didn't know how to play if you were too busy playing lovers with Sam" Alex admitted annoyed at Sadie's comment "First one of us shows without a shirt and now you two make a scene where our vocalist sits on the lap of our manager, really we show professionalism. I wasn't sure if I was on an audition for a guitarist or a reality tv show where everyone hookups, should we get you two a room or you are the ones that like doing things publicly" She added annoyed as she rolled her eyes "I wasn't sure if I wanted to puke for listening to this people or having to sit next to you all the time"

Of course, anyone who knew Sadie would know that she didn’t want arm guy in the band. Music was the most important thing to her, which meant in turn that the band was the most important thing to her. Though they were still in the garage stage, she was bound and determined to change that. She wanted them to make it big, because she wanted to fulfil her dream of performing on a stage in front of thousands of people, sharing her music and love of it with the world. It helped that she had people in the band with the same dream and passion as her. Despite herself, she found that she was actually pretty comfortable, too. Until she wasn’t. She glanced down after Sam spoke, an ‘I might’ on her lips until he made a ramp out of his legs and shoved her in the back. She landed on her hands and knees on the ground hard, her head immediately jerking back to fix him with an icy glare. Without really thinking about the consequences, she lashed out and kicked the flimsy chair, not expecting it to fold completely underneath Sam and send him falling down.

When she hit the ground, Sam had a fleeting moment of regret that passed through him. The sudden loss of warmth and the pleasant weight on his lap as well as how she hit the ground a bit harder then he had intended. Or, well, he hadn't thought that far ahead at all, he had just acted which was entirely unlike him, but Sadie always managed to bring out the worst in him. An apology was on his lips when his world turned. Quite literally. Sadie had booted the front leg of the chair, the thin, worn metal buckled under the pressure and his weight sending the chair tumbling forward with him in tow. Through sheer instinct, he managed to avoid crushing her, his right hand smacking the cold floor next to her head as his left elbow smashed into the hard concrete sending a pulse of pain throughout his body. His body smashed into her back and he wasn't sure how, but she ended up on her back and he was over her, his body flush against hers and his face inches above hers. His dark hair fell in waves around them, a curtain against the world and for just a moment, Sam lost himself in those hazel eyes. Lost and not himself, Sam leaned in an inch, closer to the woman under him. A part of him knew it was Sadie, that Sadie, but he didn't care, or, perhaps, it was because it was Sadie, he leaned further in when a voice cracked through his mind like a whip. Alex. He jumped off of Sadie and ran his hand through his hair, pushing it back over his shoulder before offering it down to Sadie, "Sorry," he said, pulling back to the safety of his carefully constructed walls, "That was childish of me even if you did deserve it."

Sadie, too distracted by her own anger coursing through her veins that he’d actually just shoved her to the ground, didn’t notice the fleeting regret in his eyes. No, her foot was already racing towards the chair by the time she even glanced his way, his apology never getting the chance to escape his lips before all hell broke loose. She didn’t expect the chair to break, but it did, and the look on his face would have been humorous if he hadn’t been hurling in her direction. Her own eyes widened, her body twisted on the ground as he crashed down overtop of her. She felt his body smash into hers, and she ended up on her back underneath of him. Looking up, the anger in her eyes dissipated as she realized how close they were. Her lips parted automatically, though nothing came out of her lips as the two of them stared at each other, the brown waves of his hair shielding them from the rest of the members of the band for just a moment. He leaned in, and she felt her body tense in anticipation. And then she spoke. The moment ruined, he pushed himself off of her and stood, leaving her down on the floor like some animal. He ran a hand through his hair and then offered it to her. Her pride shone through as she smacked his hand away, twisting again and pushing herself up, brushing some dirt off of her shirt as she sidestepped him. Without a word, she stalked to her bag and kneeled down, opening it to dig through it for a moment. A few seconds later, she stood, frustrated and embarrassed even if she wouldn’t admit it. Unable to come up with something she’d been looking for, she stood, yanking her bag up with her. A folded envelope fell out, but she didn’t notice as she turned and headed back to the entrance of the storage unit. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” She muttered, not caring if anyone heard before she disappeared from sight, heading for her car.

Sam ignored the flash of pain that was becoming far too familiar for his taste when she smacked his hand away and that look in her eyes, he would have been comfortable with anger but it looked almost hurt was the turning of the knife in his chest. He had been childish when he pushed her, he knew that the second he had done it, and he didn't really know why he had done it, at least, the reasons he kept bringing up didn't fit. Sam stepped towards Sadie as she dug through her bag to say something, but stopped. He didn't know what to say and the silence was unpleasant, to say the least. She was the one who sat on him, she was the one that kept bringing up other men in front of her boyfriend, she was the one who constantly picked the fights, yet Sam felt like he was the one in the wrong. From the corner of his eye, the one who had ruined... whatever that had been on the ground had decided to leave and Sam wasn't going to stop her. He wanted to be as far away from all them as soon as possible so he could rebuild and figure out what in the hell just happened. When Sadie failed to find what she was looking for, something slipped from her bag, an envelope. He started to tell her she had dropped it when she muttered her goodbyes. Sam blinked a few times, he wanted to be away from them, but the fact she was leaving him.. them caught him off guard. It shouldn't have, but it did.

She was out the door before he could say anything, so Sam simply said, "Lets pack it up for today. I'll text you all the time and place to meet tomorrow once I've gone over everything," and followed after her stopping only to scoop up that envelope. He almost got to the door before he gave into his curiosity to peak at it. The red words stamped on the paper sent a chill throughout his body. An eviction notice. A final eviction notice. Sam closed his eyes in frustration. Of course, she'd be facing this on the day he had tossed her to the ground, because of course. "Sadie," Sam called out as he got closer to her car, "You dropped this," he finished as he held out the envelope to her. He needed to help her. She was the lead singer and frontman. Perhaps he could give her money to stay in a hotel while he figured it out or pay her rent for the next few months until they could get stable work, but the words that left his mouth were, "Stay with me," as his mind caught up to his mouth, he quickly added, "Until we figure something out."

Sadie couldn’t stop her mind from swirling round and round as she stomped through the snow towards her car, one of her hands absentmindedly reaching across her stomach to grasp the opposite elbow. Hot tears stung the corners of her eyes, and she knew she had to get the hell out of here. She didn’t expect anyone to follow her-- well, perhaps Zeke, but he was the person she was closest to in the band, after all. Like siblings, they fought and squabbled over the stupidest shit, but they always made up. Usually over pizza. And quite possibly a beer or some liquor. Other than Zeke, Sadie didn’t have much. She was losing her home, her car was on its last leg. The band was everything to her, smartass comments aside. And despite the fact that she and Sam didn’t see eye to eye on anything, she thought he was a good manager. Smart, controlled, good with their money, professional, pretty damn sexy… She stumbled over a rock buried in the snow at that thought, her cheeks flushing pink as she wondered just what the hell had gotten into her thoughts. Shaking herself, she kicked the rock, too, and trekked on. Reaching into the outer pocket of her bag, she yanked her keys out of it, half zipping the thing back shut as she made her way out of the gate, towards where she’d parked a few hours ago. Would he have kissed me, if Alex hadn’t said anything?

The thought came unbidden into her mind as she reached her car, missing the keyhole a few times before finally jamming the key into the lock and twisting. Her hands were shaking, but she blamed the cold. And then she heard it. Not it. Him. “Not happening…” She considered just sliding into her car and pretending she hadn’t heard him, but he was already close. With a sigh, she left the keys dangling from her door as she turned. “Dropped what?” Her eyes fell to the envelope, and she felt her blood run cold. For a moment, she couldn’t say or do anything. Sam had stunned Mercedes into silence twice in a matter of a few minutes. It had to be some sort of record. The next words out of his mouth caused her to look back up at him, confusion and a bit of suspicion apparent on her gaze. How would his girlfriend feel about her living there? “You’re out of your mind.” She finally spoke, her voice lacking it’s usual edge. Reaching out, Sadie took the envelope from him, shaking her head. “Don’t worry about it. You have enough on your plate, Samson.” To her, the conversation was over.

Those same hazel eyes he had forgotten himself in were still there but it wasn't the same. He felt like he had been punched in the gut, and it seemed like he may have deserved it even if he still couldn't figure out why as Sam was sure if he had been even a few moments late, she'd have been crying in her car. He felt like a massive ass and he was fairly certain this was why his ex-wife had left him because he couldn't figure this shit out. Why those two were related was not something he was going to think about. What she said next made his stomach churn as if it was trying to strangle him from the inside, Samson. She had said Samson. It was as if she was running, using his name to push him away and he should have been fine with it. He should have taken the out she gave him. Sam could retreat back, forget this, she would be fine, someone, Zeke probably, would take her in. He could go back to the way things were and forget this entire day, but he couldn't. He wouldn't.

"Its Sam," he said, his voice almost raw after all the events of the day, "I'll make room for you. I always do," he said as he gave her a small smile. She was staying with him. The second he had seen her eyes, the decision had been made somewhere within him. "I have plenty of space, we can work together to find some new gigs and venues, start to get rolling with our new member," He added, although, technically, they had no new member yet, but the choice was plain. Marigny was it. He'd look through the tapes tomorrow, but she was the new member. She had come in like a wrecking ball to the lot and it was as if she had turned his life upside down in a matter of moments and Sam wasn't sure what to make of it. "Please," Sam said softly, "At least think about it. I'd rather have you safe, with me, then anywhere else," which was true, but he wasn't sure he wanted to know how true... Not anymore.

Sadie wanted to run. Screw the car, screw the keys, and screw Sam, shoving her to the floor and staring at her with those fucking eyes of his now… Taking a step backwards, she felt her car behind her, blocking her from moving any further away. She couldn’t run. Her eyes darted back and forth, looking for an out. She’d given him one, why couldn’t he just take it? The damned letter… she still held it, in her hands, as though it were going to disappear. But it wouldn’t. None of the letters had. ”It’s Sam.” Lifting her eyes again, she stared at him. He hadn’t taken it. Why the fuck not? It was no secret that Sadie’s history with guys wasn’t perfect. Who’s was? Hell, the last guy she’d been serious about had ended up to be married. Hadn’t that been wonderful to find out. Ever since then, it’d been a random hookup here or there, rarely. Mostly she just kept to herself. Did the band practices and whatnot, and then went home. She didn’t have a job because her attitude sucked, so her last boss said, and the money they made from the few gigs they’d done was obviously not enough for rent. She opened her mouth to protest. Really, she did. With her watery eyes, heavy black eyeliner, and ripped jeans, she was going to protest going home to her freezing trailer. But he kept going. And when he mentioned the new member, she knew they were thinking of the same person, and it definitely wasn’t arm guy. “I’ll think about it.” She said instead, her pride unable to allow her to fully commit to staying with him right away. Shifting her weight away from the car, she pulled the keys from the lock and opened her door, his words still circling in her mind. Meeting his gaze once more, it was fairly obvious she wanted to ask him what he meant. But she didn’t. Instead, she just slid into the drivers seat and turned the car on, praying the damned thing started. “See you tomorrow.” She told him, avoiding his gaze. “Sam.”

The entire way home, all Sadie could think about was Sam and his fucking offer. She pulled up to her trailer and sat there for a few minutes, staring at the trailer. The shingles on the roof were all but gone, and the windows were boarded up, making the place already look deserted. She'd done that for warmth once her heat had gone out, months ago. The paint on the sides had been chipped away by the weather, and her steps were broken, one step missing completely. Tapping her fingers on her steering wheel, she sighed, looking down. She didn't have much of a choice but to take him up on his offer, much to her prides dismay.

Shoving open the door to her car, she pushed herself up and out of the thing, shutting the door with her hip as she began to march towards the broken steps. Stepping over the missing one, she unlocked her door and stepped inside the space, shivering slightly. A copy of the eviction notice sat on her table. She picked it up, staring down at the date on the paper. Less than a week away. Crumbling it up, she threw it at the trash can, missing by a mile. "Fucking figures." She muttered, kicking a fast food bag out of her way as she went to sit on her torn fabric couch.

She didn't have much. Most of the furniture could stay and be destroyed along with this place. Scoffing, she pulled her phone out of her bag and turned it over and over in her hands before unlocking it, navigating to her text messages. Knowing she wouldn't be able to accept his offer in person, she hit Sam's name and typed out two letters:

"OK."

Her thumb hovered above the send button, but she couldn't bring herself to press it. Groaning, she deleted the word and shut her phone off, tossing it onto the table and plopping sideways on the couch. She didn't mean to fall asleep, but she did, and didn't move until hours later. It was definitely nighttime when she woke back up, and she knew she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. Pushing herself off the couch, she went to take a shower, changing clothes afterwards and heading back into her living room. She opened her fridge, spotting the expired milk in there. "Tap water it is." She shut the fridge with a bang, filling a glass with water from the sink.

She spent the next few hours on her phone, filling out job applications here and there, but mostly trying to find gigs for them. She wasn't very good at it, which is one reason she was grateful for Sam. Not that she'd admit that out loud. Really, everyone had a purpose in the band not including the instruments they played. She was grateful for them all, just not great at expressing it. Flagging a couple that she thought might be good to look into, she glanced up, realizing that morning had come.

Not wanting to stay in this hellhole a moment longer, she stood and stretched. Locking up on her way out, she headed for the library. She never went there, and to say she got lost on the way there would be an understatement. Yet still, she managed to be the third person there, somehow. Walking in, probably looking hungover, she dropped her things in a chair, barely sparing the two girls a glance. Mel was too bright, and she didn't feel like fighting with Alex. "I'll be back." She muttered, slipping out of the room. Yesterday's makeup was smudged, but she didn't really care about the looks she got from other library goers for it or her outfit.

She found the bathroom and splashed some water on her face, pulling her hair over one shoulder as she glanced at her reflection. Yes, she definitely looked hungover. Grimacing, she left the bathroom to wander the library until the others arrived.

Sam watched Sadie's car disappear past the bend and let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. That could have gone better... It could have also gone a whole lot worse and they had a very high ceiling for how badly they could botch anything much less an invitation to live with him which was an idea that became more and more attract the longer it stayed in his mind which was frightening all on its own. He should be terrified, he should be pulling his hair out by the handfuls as he bemoaned his poor life decisions as well as dreaded what to tell his kids when Sadie showed up. Katie might like Sadie and want to meet her and the band, but that doesn't mean she wanted to her to move in and what if Katie gets territorial? She hates her step-father, David, resenting him as an 'outsider', what would he do if Katie felt the same way about Sadie? What about Charles? The boy was so shy that he liked to hide in his room or in a video game that might as well have a 'do not disturb' sign hanging off the couch when someone knocks on the door to deliver packages much less a woman moving in, yet despite all that, no matter how much his mind tried to conjure up images that should have him scrambling for his phone to reserve a room at the nearest hotel for his singer, he was okay with it. Of course, she might not accept his offer, she could stay with Zeke which he was most assuredly not okay with especially after what just happened. He had almost kissed her.

Sam ran a hand across his face, he felt like he was back in high-school again, fumbling like a fool with a girl he had a crush on and having no idea what to do about it. He felt so confused and powerless, like his life was spiraling away. It was so carefully tended and constructed, orderly, and in one afternoon it was crumbling around him. He wasn't even done with today! He had to meet another client before he could even go home, how could this day possible get any worse?

As if to answer his question Zeke stepped out from the comfort of the building he was leaning on. Sadie leaving was a god send although he didn’t actually know what occurred between them. Now that she was gone he could face Fancy without holding back. He had been wanting to get in his face for quite some time, and all he needed was a reason. “Yo, Hugh Heffner, the fuck was that all about?”

Zeke continued to walk forward until he was about a foot away from where Sam was standing. At this moment he couldn’t possibly like him less. He held his hands behind his back but it was not a gesture of respect, nor was it solely for restraint. It was a warning. He was so furious that a small gesture like this was the only thing that could drown the temptation to secure a meeting with Fancy’s lawyers (who were no doubt better than Zeke’s). Despite his level of rage, Zeke seemed calmer than usual. His voice was softer, colder, and clear. His face was stern, but relaxed. These were not good signs.

"Hugh Heffner? Really? That is what you say? Want me to turn around so you can try it all again? Give you some time to think of something that is actually clever?" Sam bit out, a mixture of anger, shame, jealously and guilt gnawed at his stomach. Zeke had every right to be mad at him. Sadie had been sitting in his lap, he pushed her down and then was on top of her for a few moments even if it felt much longer. He had made Sadie storm off and nearly cry, maybe she did cry when she left, Sam was in the wrong here. He knew that. However, he wasn't about to let Zeke be the one to chide him. Zeke who couldn't remember to put on a goddamn shirt in winter. On some level, he was glad it wasn't Melanie or Zyon because at least with Zeke he can channel all those feelings into anger, and anger that was very much a green eyed monster.

"If this is one of those, 'You're a bad man and should feel bad,' speeches, save it. I know already," Sam said, part of that anger aimed at himself, "I'm aware I acted like an ass, and I will find a way to fix it so unless you have something worthwhile to say, and considering its you I highly doubt it, go away and do whatever it is that you do."

"You see that's that bitch made attitude I hate about you. You go around judging everyone else, and now that you've finally shown your true colors you want me to drop it. Nah bro, it don't work like that." Zeke actually cracked a smile. Seeing the usually composed Sam so annoyed and flustered almost brought a natural high. He was surprised, however, that Sam didn't ignore him or roll his eyes. But even in a situation where he was clearly at fault, he still attempted to look down at Zeke. It was impressive in its own way. Nevertheless, despite all his anger he successfully danced around the question and that was a problem. "So, bitch, since that's simple enough for someone like me, you didn't answer my question. I didn’t ask if you feel bad, I didn’t ask if you’ll fix it. I said, what.....the fuck......was that about? Sadie got your tongue?”

Zeke unclasped his hands, clearly irritated by Sam’s jabs and his efforts to run away from the situation, but Zeke wouldn’t let go so easily, not today. Not when Sadie was clearly upset. Not when he disrespected the entire band with his “show”. If he wanted to cross lines, then lines would be crossed on all fronts. The sad part was that before this, a tiny part of Zeke wanted to at least respect him.

"Of course I judge you," Sam said rolling his eyes, "I judged your skills when I picked your band, I judge your attitudes and actions when I look to see which one of you will shit the bed first and then do what I can to ensure that doesn't happen, I judge you and your performances for each venue I set up, its my job to judge you," he tilted his head as if he was trying to explain something simple to someone even simpler, which is very much what he felt like he was doing, "Life isn't a liberal arts college. You don't like being judged? Too bad. I don't like being flailed at by a moron who can't even dress himself, but here we are."

Sam flinched when he asked if Sadie had his tongue, no, she didn't, but he had nearly had hers, "What happened in there is between Sadie and myself. I will fix it. That is all you need to know," which wasn't true. Zeke very much did deserve to know what was going on with his girlfriend, but Sam wasn't about to give him that satisfactions., "now, I have things to do, so as fun as it was to be called a 'bitch' over and over again by someone with a fifth grade reading level, I'm going to go,"

Zeke would usually ignore his monologue, but he wanted to hang on to every word. Anything that could fuel Zeke was welcomed with open arms. He wanted to know what kind of man could turn his back on his own principles so easily. As much as he hated to admit it, his jabs at his intelligence, and his high-minded attitude often found their way under Zeke’s skin. He already knew the insults were going to rain down like a hail storm; however, this was different. All Zeke had to do was state the obvious and bring it back to the core of the problem. Zeke laughed toward the end or his speech and then immediately warped his expression back to the stern one he had earlier as he took a step closer to erase the space between them. “Okay I’m actually done listening to you,” Zeke said, just short of cutting him off.

He then brought his voice down to a whisper as he leaned in to speak. At this point Zeke surmised that this exchange should end as well because the more he thought about the situation, the harder it became to not hit him, the harder it became to completely excuse Sadie for what happened. “Was it soft? Did you feel her up as much as you wanted? Good, cause I’ll make it simple so you can go home, tuck it in your panties and take a cold shower. If I see that shit again with any of my bandmates; I’m not asking any questions. So, keep it professional capiche?” Zeke said the last part with a sly grin and then took a few steps back after a friendly pat on the shoulder. Whether Fancy took that seriously or not didn’t matter to Zeke. What mattered was that Zeke was someone who made good on promises good, or bad. He knew what he would do if and when the time came. After all, Fancy was the one that would have to look himself in the mirror.

Sam couldn't help but feel he was talking to a child, one that seemed to have something to prove to... someone. It reminded him of what his own son would do to his daughter the second she said she was done with an argument, loudly stating that 'he is done with her!' as if getting some kind of last word in made them win. But having the mentality of a large child did fit Zeke fairly well, perhaps next time Sam would put him on time out even if he had almost hit him when he had talked about Sadie that way. He knew the point of it was, to get at him for 'feeling her up', which he hadn't done, but the fact he talked about her like that angered him. Sadie was Sadie, if anyone would be the type to not allow unwanted attention it would be her... Her and Alex. Which brought up that nagging question of why she hadn't pushed him off or said anything, and she had looked anything but unwilling, but he wasn't ready or willing to think more on that. Maybe it was just anger speaking on Zeke's behalf, saying things without thinking them through which was less anger and more just his normal behavior.

Zeke's threat didn't bother him, perhaps if it had been Zyon, someone who could remember to get dressed, Sam would give it credence even if a part of him knew Zeke was right to warn him off even if his warning was the same his mind had been screaming at him all day. To keep it professional, but more and more that seemed impossible as if life, itself, was mocking him and it can in the forms of a clumsy barista and a very beautiful blond. When Zeke walked off, Sam pulled out his phone and sent a text message to his next clients, Avalon, he kept it short and sweet:

Something came up, I can't make it today. Apologies.
Today had been exhausting, he was going home and spending time with his kids and try to... recover from this.

✞———————❖———————✞

Sam was running late. He knew that. He was acutely aware of each second that ticked by, but he had other fish to fry. Sam walked up and down the aisle looking at the rows of space heaters. He had been there for more time then he would ever admit to anyone, comparing prices, different kinds of space heaters, to which he learned there were four types of electric space heaters, and pondering on which would be ideal for the band's needs. He ran a hand along his short, coarse beard as he mulled it over. Why were there so many? As if on cue, a feminine voice called out, "Do you need any assistance, sir?"

He turned to look at the employee in her bright red vest as she grew near, "Yea, I need some space heaters," Sam said, his hand still rubbing his thick beard.

Her eyes lit up as she spotted a potential sale... an easy sale. "I'd be happy to help you," she said, clapping her hands together as she stood by him to 'help' him look, "What kind of space are we looking at?" she said, her voice eager.

"A trailer and a storage unit," Sam said glancing over to the women as that giddy light slowly faded as the employee assumed his income and spending limits, "A trailer and storage unit," she repeated, her voice still high but not quite as chipper as it had been before.

"Yes," Sam said, "recommendations?"

She tapped her lips, "the ones with the fans are best for open areas, it gets heat out faster and further. She pointed to a larger box, "That one is our best, for example, it can even be held from the ceiling," Sam barely had time to look at it before she was steering him to a much smaller one, "But this one is a bit more on the affordable side, as long as the storage door wasn't left open a lot, I'm sure it'd do fine," she said, her voice low as if she was trying to avoid letting anyone else hear and give them privacy.

Sam looked to the larger one and pulled it off the shelf to give it a better look. It was nearly five hundred dollars, it was far stronger then the others. From what he saw, the others were around 1,500, this one had ten thousand. Even more, it had a simple fan for the summer which would be nice as it got extremely hot in that small space with all those bodies crammed in. It'd be hell on the electric bill, but he wasn't overly worried about that. Better to pay for a few hours of comfort then lose income from sick clients, "I'll take this one," Sam said.

The employee blinked a few times, "Are you sure? Its a bit expensive."

"Its good. Now for that trailer," Sam said as he wedged the large box into his cart.

The light sprang back into the employee's eyes as the fact she just sold their most expensive space heater and was about to sell another appliance worked its way through her head. "I'd recommend one of these," she said, smacking her hand on a decent sized box, "Radiant heaters. Its great for warming rooms, but I like it because it cuts down on the bills and you can even set the timer for it to decide when it cranks out the heat and at what level, it also comes with an internal sensor that can be set to start if the temperature ever falls below the set level," she said and leaned to say the last feature, "It is also wi-fi controlled so you can set it even when you're not home as long as your home internet is working."

Sam rolled his head as he thought about it. Considering the band's income, which he knew very well, and he doubted Zyon had much other income coming in, anything to save money was probably a good idea. He didn't want to get something expensive that would drive the bill up, but if this thing would do a great job and not hit Zyon's wallet, it was a good idea, "Sure, I'll take that one as well."

"Great! I'll help you to my counter!" She said, a noticeable spring in her step.

✞———————❖———————✞

Sam pulled into the library parking lot noticing Mel's van instantly, it was rather hard to miss, but his stomach churned when he spotted Sadie's car. It didn't escape him that she hadn't called or texted him last night to let him know her decision. He knew, keenly, because he had checked his phone every few minutes and had to stop himself from messaging her to see what she was up to. Sam took a deep breath to steady his nerves and then stepped out of his Durango and into the library. He didn't look around much when he entered, his focus on the room that they were meeting in. When he entered, he saw Mel and Alex talking. Or, well, not so much 'talking' as Mel being talked 'to' by Alex. At least it seemed Alex was in her normal mood which was, well, it wasn't good, but Sam was going to take anything he could get at this point.

"Morning," Sam said as he came into the room and noticed a distinct lack of the third member. Sadie's car was here, but she wasn't in the room. It was an interesting mix of disappointment and crushing waves of relief that he didn't have to face her just yet.

"Damn it Sadie..."

In most situations you could immediately recognize talent, true talent. The kind that someone was born with. The kind of talent that was innate and woven in their nature. You didn’t have to guess, or analyze it. have to. You just knew. After a single stroke of the guitar, Zeke knew Noelle was their guitarist and he would fight anyone who thought otherwise. His mouth was visibly open when she began to enter the beginning of the song. Without a doubt she seemed like a different person. He would be the first one to admit that he had a few reservations about her auditioning. I mean…she looked like she was going to drop the next country record. Zeke, or Killi in this case, found himself tapping his foot. (Screw it…if they don’t know by now then its their fault. We can’t get showed up in our own backyard.)

Sometime in the middle of the song Zeke ran to his drums and with a goofy grin while taking it all in. She was definitely feeling it, and so was he. It was the one thing he liked about music. Music found anyone. It was one of the pure things in this world…even if people like Fancy used it for their own whims. He knew the song well, so once he got her cadence it was smooth sailing for them. He cut into her solo, becoming the heart beat of the song as they gave it life together. He didn’t think far enough ahead to know if it would throw her off, or if the other members would get mad; however, in another light it could be seen as a true test. To see if she could keep up…or if he could. He remained in sync, anticipating the song, and the nuances every artist adds to a melody. He was willfully lost in the rhythm and melody. Moreover, it was only until she finished that he realized he didn’t want it to end. Practices could get mundane sometimes, so it was refreshing to let loose and just play because he wanted too. He had fun. He looked up at Noelle as he was still smiling and breathing just a tad bit harder than normal. (Whoops I might have just gave away my vote….). Seeing her face he recalled something. Something that should have been recalled a lot sooner, giving new meaning to the phrase, “a late reaction”. “Did she just call me Killi?”

********
Sometime after Noelle’s performance Zeke had packed up his drums during some poor soul’s audition. He made no effort to hide the fact that he didn’t care about the performance at all while he unintentionally made distracting noises. During another performance he squeezed passed the poor girl to pour some orange juice while loudly offering some to the other band members. Of course, he would blame her for thinking that playing a song backwards was okay while being unable to play it forward. He thought he heard her say she wasn’t appreciated in her own time, but he didn’t’ care enough to continue the exchange. The quality continued to dip like bad queso and Zeke was almost snoring. “Yo, we’re wasting away here. Let’s go home ear-“ That was when he saw it. Sadie sitting in Fancy’s lap. At first he didn’t feel anything. He didn’t think anything. All he could do was capture the moment. It was as if he got shot, and was waiting for the wave of pain to come over him. He could guess what had happened since he did vaguely remember Fancy taking her seat. However, his blood continued to boil until he was completely filled to the brim with anger. He didn’t know why he was so angry. He and Sadie weren’t dating…and she could do what she wanted. Maybe a tiny part of him wished they were; however, he was sure they both knew they would end up killing each other, or they would refuse to take any part of a relationship seriously. The way they were now was the best. Maybe he was just protective of her.

“Or maybe it’s because that bastard is just using his position to take advantage of her…of us.” Zeke grumbled under his breath, finishing his thought. He was sure Fancy would make some speech about being professional and then remove Sadie from such a position; however, he did the opposite. He seemed to embrace such a gesture, but Zeke couldn’t help that he wasn’t completely surprised. Zeke had seen the way he would look at Sadie at times. It wasn’t frequent, but every now and then Fancy would have this brief lust in his eye. Perhaps it was because she was the talent. “The dude is a hippo…” Zeke whispered to himself. He often used the word hippo to call someone a hypocrite, but it rarely caught on with anyone. (For good reason) However, the fact remained that for someone who was the posterchild for professionalism, he wasn’t too bothered by having a lap dance in front of the band let alone in the middle of auditions. Moreover, if anyone should have been focused, it would be the manager. He tried to ignore them, to avoid lashing out and embarrassing everyone, but his anger continued to fester with every passing second. He couldn’t see anything but Fancy’s smug look with Sadie in his lap…and was he…smelling her hair? Oh yeah…this man has to go. What started off as a bad day, turned into a good day, and has now reverted to the former. That was when he heard a loud crash. He looked back only to see Fancy on top of Sadie…inches away from her face and it didn’t seem like he wanted to move. “Okay, so I guess we crossin over to the adult industry,” Zeke said to no one in particular. Zeke stood up, prepared to make him move; however, it would prove unnecessary as Fancy came to his senses. Instinctively, Zeke snapped the drumsticks he was holding and tossed them aside. No words were needed at this exact moment, he would be dealing with Fancy later. If he spoke to him now, he wouldn’t be able to guarantee his safety. "Yeah, I didn't sign up for this, I'm out," he told Z as he packed up his things and went outside to get some fresh air. After a few moments he saw Sadie and Sam have an exchange in the parking lot. He didn’t really understand what was going on; he didn’t actually care. He just wanted to get his hands on Sam, and he couldn’t do that with Sadie here. Thankfully she left and then he confronted him. After their brief, but eventful confrontation he got in his car and took a deep breath before heading home. Despite popular belief, Zeke hated getting angry because he knew that would only lead to a place he didn't want to go back to. He liked who he was now as opposed to the person who could see someone die, and eat dinner a few minutes later. He placed his phone on his adapter and scrolled his contacts to find Sadie’s number. After his message was completely typed, he waited a few seconds before shutting off his phone. He hated to admit it…but this was kinda her fault. “Damn it Sadie…”

*********

Zeke woke up easily after an uneventful night. He vaguely remembered they were all supposed to meet at the library, but he didn’t feel like seeing anyone today. He didn’t even care that he was running late this time. One thing was certain, he wasn’t buying food for anyone this time. “This band’s a freakin sham. What am I even doing here,” he said after rolling out of bed. He went through his normal routine, remembering to wear a shirt this time, put on his hoodie and left to brave the elements yet again. He arrived at the library, and found to band…or at least a few of its members, after getting lost for a few minutes. Although he didn't really make eye contact with anyone, he knew who was all there. Seeing Melanie brought a level of comfort to Zeke, but it wasn't enough to lift his spirits. Seeing Alex just made him realize he was well within the cruelty of reality. As for Sam, he refused to even acknowledge his existence. He pulled up a chair by Alex and sat down, in reverse, with his arms on top of what was supposed to be the back of the chair. He didn't look at anyone; he only looked down towards the ground as he waited for the day to end.

「Double Puppy Trouble」

[ After auditions, a few hours later, dog park ]

Time quickly passed and Marigny Noelle found herself wandering towards the dog park for some fresh air after being cooped up inside the Cafe for so long.

“Scoob, I’m extremely nervous. Do you think they liked me? They were really intimidating but so totally rad!”

Scooby’s ears perked up as he lifted up head to look at Noe. With a small head tilt, Scoob panted slightly, gazing at his best friend in wonder. A small whine escaped his mouth as he nudged Noe’s arm with his nose.

A soft chuckle escaped Noe’s lips as she shook her head before kneeling beside her best boy. “Aw, I know. You’re my biggest supporter!”

With a loud bark, Scooby wagged his tail as Noe continue to pet him, patting his head, and giving him a big hug while Scooby just continued to slobber her with kisses.

But, without warning, Scooby quickly stopped, ears perked even more as he stood still and alert. His head lifted from Noe’s neck as he sniffed the air, catching a foreign scent. Soon, Scooby dashed off deeper into the dog park, running in what seemed to be a random direction.

“Scoob! Wait! Where are you going?”

Having escaped the drama that unfolded after the auditions were over, another pair of puppy and owner made their way to the local dog park. They’d arrived on the other side of the park, and the white puffball that was Artemis bundled through the cold weather like it didn’t even faze her. Which it didn’t.

The little puppy’s owner Zyon was quite content to walk along with his hands stuffed in his pocket and watch Artemis play catch with leaves and bounce through the snow. His mind was wandering aimlessly, not really thinking about anything in particular, not even auditions. He’d already picked his favorite anyway.

“Hey Arte--”

Z’s sentence was cut off by an unfamiliar bark from an unfamiliar dog that was bundling in Artemis’s direction. The stranger dog was still some distance away and it seemed young Artemis hadn’t noticed. She continued to not seem to notice, busily chasing leaves in the snow and getting steadily farther from Zyon. Finally she noticed the new scent coming closer, and spun around with her tail wagging so much in unbridled puppy energy her butt couldn’t hold still to look at the german shepherd coming towards her.

“What the...? Where in hell is your owner?”

As quick as her feet could take her, Noe ran after Scooby as he bounded towards unfamiliar territory across the park. She and Scooby never ventured further into the dog park to know what was on the other side of the area. A whole new world, perhaps. But, still, it was odd for Scooby to just run off by himself like he was doing currently.

Scooby, on the other hand, was having a time of his life as he snuffed out the scent that seemed to catch his attention. Either he was extremely attracted to the scent or he just found it interesting, whatever the case was, he made a beeline in the snow. With his tongue stuck out, panting with each step he took, the curious and active german shepherd quickly came to a halt when he reached the vicinity that caught his attention. With another head tilt, Scooby carefully walked over, his head down as he tried to slowly walk through the snow, not wanting to make a lot of noise. But, with him being quite huge in stature, Scooby ended up letting out a quiet bark wondering what it was jumping in the snow. A smaller him? No. . . too fluffy. Nevertheless, Scooby stopped a few feet away from the unfamiliar man who's tone only made him stare at him in wonder before sitting down in the snow as he wanted to sniff the other puppy.(edited)
However, as Noe ran as quick as she could in lightning speed after her own dog, she couldn't have fathom just how slippery and quick her pace had been as she ran through the snow. Not able to stop herself from tripping over her own feet in the snow catching up to Scooby, Noe's eyes widened as she realised she was quickly coming into contact with Scooby but just barely missed him as she saw a familiar puppy and face.

"Oh, crap!" She called out as she tried to catch her balance and her breath. But, of course, with her luck, she ended up face planting in the snow. And with a loud "oompf" she fell down. Definitely not one of her best luck.

With a small groan, Noe attempted to compose herself before lifting her head up to see none other than . . . Zyon, the bassist she briefly encountered prior and his puppy that he brought with him to the audition. Oh, great, another good impression. But, brushing off her . .. rather . . loud entrance, Noe slightly waved, laughing awkwardly, "Nice. . . seeing you again. Hi. Sorry about . . " She trailed off before moving her head over towards Scoob. "I see you met. . . Scoob. Come here often?"

Artemis watched the new puppy quietly for a few, tail end still going a million miles per minute. Then she bounced through the snow, quite literally, over to the larger Scoob with a yip. She stopped a short distance from the larger pup pink tongue sticking out of her mouth. In an attempt to approach slowly, she got as low as she could in the snow and wiggling forward. It didn’t really work. She looked more stuck than anything. At least she dug herself a hole in the snow. Ever resilient, Artemis tried a different route and stood fully up in the snow. She really was tiny compared to the german shepherd but not like a small dog breed. She looked more like an albino version of a shepherd much younger than Scoob. Artemis stuck her nose out towards Scoob and sniffed a bit.
Zyon on the other hand was faced with the woman, who he recognized as Faerie from the auditions. He raised an eyebrow at the woman as she face planted into the snow. That had to be cold. Not that he was going to say anything about it. He didn’t really smile, and neither did he wave back. “Quite the excited pup I see. Not that Artemis is much calmer.” He responded in as close to a friendly tone as he could get with a stranger.

“Often enough. She’s got too much energy to handle at home.” Zyon gestured to the fluffy puppy who blended quite well with the white snow. His attention turned to Scoob then. “How about you? Here often?” He repeated her question back as he watched the pups interact with a slight smile on his face.

Scoob's ears were pushed back as he leaned his head forward and closer to the ground. Feeling the cold snow brush against his nostrils, Scooby didn't mind it as he watched in curiosity the smaller puppy's actions as she tried to make it's way towards him. His tail wagged slightly as he patiently sniffed the air only to lean back up when Artemis came closer. With a small head tilt, Scooby's mouth parted as he panted, trying to calm his nerves as he wanted to get to know the puppy a bit more. He hoped she wanted to play as he moved a little closer towards Artemis and let out a quiet yet friendly arf.

Pawing the snow, Scooby leaned down and used his nose to brush the snow forward over towards Artemis in a playful manner before going from one side to the nice with his butt up and front paws down showing Artemis that he wanted to play with her. Another arf was let out by Scooby as he wagged his tail even more.
On the other hand, Noe slowly propped herself up, no thanks to Scooby who was distracted and seemingly excited to want to play with Artemis. Another small "aww" escaped her lips as she called over towards Scooby, "Don't play rough now. She's smaller than you, Scoob."

In response, Scoob gave another arf.

At hearing, Zyon's voice, Marigny Noelle's head turned back towards her perhaps, maybe, potential band mate, hopefully. Kneeling in the snow as well as being covered in Snow, Noelle looked around for chair to sit but alas there was none and she could only sit awkwardly on the ground. But, as Zyon mentioned how excited Scooby was, Noe could only laugh in response, "Yeah . . Scoob's been stuck at the Cafe all day and we figured it'll be best to go out for a walk on our break!" Noe explained.

Tilting her head to the side, Noe wondered what the male was thinking. Was he annoyed? No . . . from his tone, it didn't seem as such. Nevertheless, Noe couldn't quite put her finer on it. But, as Zyon continued to speak about Artemis only to question her if she goes to the park often, Noe nodded.

"Scooby's the same way. . but he's never bolted like that before. I'm sorry if he spooked both you and Artemis." Noe softly commented before shaking her head. "Not too often. With juggling different jobs, there are days Scoobs isn't able to stretch his leg or other puppies to socialize with. Most of the time, we go for walks but never leisurely like today."
But, before she could stop herself. an idea came to mind and the words just spilled out of her lips like honey. "Do you think if you wouldn't mind. Maybe. . . both Artemis and Scooby, seeing that they are both curious of each other and have so much energy. . . maybe we can setup play dates for them?"

However, realizing she was suggesting something to an almost total stranger, Noe quickly added, "I mean, of course, if you feel as if it's okay? We don't even have to bring them to the dog park all the time! I have a place upstairs in the Cafe where they can play if its too cold or hot!"

Artemis yipped excitedly at Scooby when it looked like the larger pup wanted to play. Her little pink tongue slipped from her mouth as she pushed a bit of snow back at Scooby. She then proceeded to roll in it onto her back and wiggle her little paws up at Scooby. With a full body turn and wiggle she hopped up again and bounced a short distance away, spun back to face Scooby and yipped again. Paws down butt up, she wiggled in place, waiting for Scooby to play.

Soon after that the pups were running around and playing in the snow together. Zyon chuckled a little as he watched them. "I don't think Arte was spooked. It's fine." He smiled to Faerie, caught up in the pups happiness. "I think play dates would be a great idea. It'd give Artemis somewhere to go when I can't have her with... for band stuff you know." He didn't bother to tread lightly around that subject. It wasn't like he knew weather she'd get in or not yet. That decision would be made tomorrow.

The pair continued to chat about mostly the puppies, things like their breeds and where they came from, until it started getting later. Artemis and Scooby played all the while, neither really seeming to run out of all that much energy. It was almost too soon for the puppies when Zyon and Noe called them back. As Artemis bounded over to Zyon, he picked up his snowy, cold little girl and turned to Noe.

"About the play dates, would you be okay with the first one being tomorrow? I have to meet with the band to go over auditions. I can drop Artemis over at your place in the morning?" He asked, a more genuine smile on his face now. He was pretty sure he knew which cafe to go to, and if not he'd just ask for directions. They'd exchanged phone numbers earlier in the day anyway.

Noelle nodded with a smile. Scooby came to wait beside her, seated with his tongue hanging free in happiness. "Sure! That'd work." She answered, and then looked to Scooby. "Let's go home Scoobs." Scooby and Noelle turned to leave after that, with a wave to Zyon.

Zyon waved in return, and turned away as well. It was almost like an after thought when he turned around and called "Hey Faerie, nice job today!" He continued on after that, not looking back.

[At Zyon's trailer the next morning]

It was again freezing that morning, but at least Zyon managed to get a decent amount of sleep. He even slept till the alarm went off for once. Artemis was still soundly asleep in her bed when he got up. Her feet kicked a little in her dreams and the male couldn't help but smile. After a quick shower, he tiptoed about to get some breakfast into his stomach before waking Artemis by filling her food bowl.

Yip!

"Good morning sleepy pup. Eat quickly, we gotta get you over to Faerie's Cafe." Zyon greeted his dog as he moved about putting on his coat, shoes, and attempting to find his keys. They were hiding where he left them, on the couch by his bass. He grabbed his keys and then Artemis's harness and leash. Artemis was right there as soon as Zyon walked to the door. She knew they were going on a road trip. She'd also eaten all her food like a good girl.

Zyon opened the door and the little white bundle of fur bolted out the door to the car and waited there for Zyon. He chuckled and let Artemis into the car, then got in. Off they went from there, following directions off his phone to the Cafe. When they arrived at the Cafe and had safely parked, Zyon clipped the leash onto Artemis and headed into the building. It wasn't long afte entering that Noelle greeted him.

"Morning Faerie." He greeted Noelle with a smile and a wave, before he passed off Artemis's leash. The hyper puppy was wiggling with curiosity at the new smells, and she could smell Scooby. "Sorry to drop Artemis off and then have to run, but I'm gonna be late anyway. She ate before we left this morning, but she'll probably be hungry again in a few hours. Have fun!" He stated, and waited long enough to pat his baby girl a couple times and remind her to be good before he headed out the door.

The grumble of his engine filled the air as he left the Cafe and headed to the library. Who in hell picked a library to do this meeting anyway? There was no way this was going to go well. He groaned a little and decided to delay his arrival a little more to pick up a bagel from one of the shops. Nothing on it, just a plain bagel. He ate half of it in the time it took him to get to the library, and upon entering the building he was directed to where his 'band' waited.

Melanie was there, so was Sam and Zeke. Then there was Alex--The girl got a sharp glance from Zyon--but he didn't see Sadie. Oh well. She'd roll in eventually. He pulled up a chair, next to Zeke, and basically shoved the other half of the bagel in Zeke's face before he proceeded to pull out his phone and entertain himself on some stupid mindless game. Time to wait for this chaos to start.
