Main OOC

Hello!

This is my first time rp'ing on this forum, but I have previous experience on other forums.

I'll present my character soon!

Hey there @Mr.Sandstorm the character creation thread with the profile template and the Example character profile will be up soon, but there'll be no point putting your character up without those threads! Though I can't wait to see what kind of character you come up with.

I'm curious about a few things in this universe:

Do humans still eat? And if yes, is it still the same types of food we eat today?

How have religions fared so far? Do people still believe in deities? Do temples and monasteries still exist?

Are there still other nations out there? Are any of them in conflict?

How have work relationships evolved? Is physical labor still a valid form of job? How are companies and businesses usualy run now?

Does anyone still talk about ethics?

Last one, and its about the augmentations: would you (the GM) allow augmentations that actualy increase one's battery life? I'm talking about hair that can absorve light, or the ability to digest celulosis. Of course, it's nothing that would make the character completely independent of energy recharges, just something that can increase the lifespan by an hours or so.

Question 1: Yes! People do still eat, and for the most part it is just like normal food, though most of it is made in a lab then cooked in restaurants or fast food places. People don't necessarily need food anymore though, like some will completely forgo food because paying for it would probably cut into their budget for their energy bill, but you can still find it.

Question 2: Ehhhhh, kinda, but not really. With humanity progressing further and further away from the organic to the inorganic, the kind of older beliefs have either changed or died off, while newer beliefs have formed as well. I'm not exactly an expert myself in religion, but for the few believing in a god/deity or higher self, the slow progression to a more 'immortal' body would probably be an aspect of their religion, though of course there's always the opposite with people believing that they should keep their organic bodies because that's what god intended or something similar. For places of worship, there isn't anything public in Uoria, but people are allowed to have them in their homes or in private areas that aren't too advertised.

Question 3: Yes to Nations, No to Conflict. Yes there are tensions between nations, but this world isn't exactly Earth, so I can't just give the stereotypical answers to the normal everyday conflicts that happen outside of the City. Nations have fought, won or lost, and now everyone has settled down over the past couple centuries.

Question 4: Yes physical labour is still a valid form of employment, and it's usually the main form of employment too. I know now in today everyone has that fear that robots and machines will take their jobs, and in some places that has happened, but for this rp when all of this was happening in history instead of letting the robots take our jobs, we just became robots. A huge section of the city is dedicated to production, while the other three sections are pretty much commercial, residential, and office buildings or company centers. It's likely that at least ten other people you know work in that production sector in a factory, if you're not also working in that sector yourself.

Question 5: Yes! There's still common day talk amongst strangers and family at the dinner table, or in academic settings with professors and scientists, or even in religious and political circles. I think that kind of discussion would probably never go away to some degree, and while many wont bring up certain topics or talk about it at all, you could certainly find someone else to talk to about whether we're still human or if a Company's humanitarian program is really for the people or not.

Question 6: No. Nothing that increases battery life in that way, but I could be negotiated with on augmentations that have a slightly lower time than their base counterparts or having something else in mind. I do want to give people creative freedom, but allowing certain things to slide for no good character wise/story wise reason would be pointless to the rp.

What exactly is the IRIS system? What is it's precise function? From what is revealed, they seem to be alike Secure Identification Chip networks used by some companies in real life. Are IRIS chips also implanted near the C3 Vertebra?

So I'm thinking about making my character an activist. She would be part of an international organization that believes that, while humans have no point in keeping their organic selves anymore, the process of augmentation has to happen for the greater good of humanity, not corporate interest. Their proposal of uniting all the nations on (Earth?) into one supranational body is rather utopic, but aside from that they're the "middle group"  when compared to the other parties. If the current condition of political parties translates in any relevant way to this distant future, that means that they get flak from both the corporations and the naturalists, and support from neither. As such, my character would suffer aggression from both sides whenever conflicts between them arise. This would often force her hand to resort to violence.

Would this fit in the story you envision, Detective?

@falseJTAC
I had to do some research, and no the chip isn't in the spinal cord. It's actually in the head, near the spinal cord but not. I mainly had to stop researching because it was freaking me out, but rest assured, it is in the head.
And IRIS is a "Guardian" AI; a government controlled AI that monitors any person with the chip. I know it sounds a little predatory, but IRIS basically takes care of a lot of systems within Uoria and is a major step towards what I would call uniformity? Possibly that's the right word. IRIS monitors things like when you die, many kinds of basic health tracking (Heartbeat, Brain Functioning), more upkeep things like energy bills or insurance bills or something similar, keeping an 'eye' on crime. Though that's a lot of background stuff that people don't really care about. Most people know IRIS as a kind of Siri/Google AI that lives in their head now. Most people use she/her pronouns for her, and ask her questions and stuff, sometimes making friends with her, and really she kind of adds to that sense of wonderment and ingenuity that visitors get when they visit Uoria.
Also it's a great tool for me, the gm, to have a character/story reason why characters can suddenly be informed of facts they usually wouldn't know. If they don't know something, they can just ask IRIS. If they need updates on something like battery life, they can just ask IRIS, because she knows, and that leaves the characters to worry about other things.

@Mr.Sandstorm
Mr Sandstorm, I love it. They're perfect for a revolution plot, and really I think we're bound to do one.

@Detective Rascal

Nice! I'll go with that then. I might be the last one to post the character tough, I prefer seeing what everyone else went with, so I can keep in mind how my own character would add to the dinamic. I'm a team player, see, It's definitely not like I'm just lazy or something....

Well, it was a pain in the ass cos the coding on this site really isnt what I remember, but I have a character sheet up, if you'd like to look, I'd appreciate any feedback.

Happy to change things if need be as well.

@TimeSplitter I know how you feel about the coding. I used to make beautiful coded posts, but they're all ruined now and there's no way for them to come back. Even the scraps we have now is half broken too, it's an utter loss.

I only have a few things with Jak too, so this should be easy. If you could add an extra 10 minutes to the arm time, and an extra 20 for the leg, we'll be all good for Battery Life. Possibly 2-3 more sentences for the personality and appearance section each, maybe make him a tad bit older, and I'm personally sorry, but the t.v case has to go. If you want me to clarify anything I can!

@Detective Rascal

Yea the coding is a real shame, I'm gonna miss it.

I figured the case wouldn't really "fit" but I liked the idea too much so I figured I'd at least ask.  ^_^  All good though, made the changed you needed.
