1. How are magical girls created?
Magical girls are girls who were selected as having the necessary traits to be likely to act as a magical girl should. Those parameters have become a lot more loose in recent years, however, it is still a process not everyone cuts through.
When a magical girl is chosen, the current guardian, the most powerful magical girl of the former generation now turned into the mascot of the new one, will approach the candidate and transport them to the hall of paintings. A seemingly endless castle hall lit only by torches and where one is surrounded by different strange paintings from both sides. If the candidate stops to stare at a particular painting, the final exam is over and the magical girl is bestowed with the magical entity the painting represents, in the form of an item that represents their new power.
These days, magical girls go over one more step before they´re considered full magical girls: they go through a year of government funded extra classes before they are given a magitech suit: a piece of technology that replaces a magical girl´s outfit and can even be worn without activating the magical girl´s powers themselves. Beyond the mechanical capabilities, these suits also enhance a magical girl´s magic.
A girl can become a magical girl from the age of 5, being that no girl will become a magical girl after they passed the age of 16. However a magical girl only has to retire at 23 at the most. While formerly no magical boys existed, some boys nowadays are easily confused with the girls by the new system, resulting in the existence of some magical girls who are, in fact, boys.
When a magical girl is created, she is met by the "mysterious entity". She is but a voice inside a black tunnel, and she is the one that gives magical girls their individual tasks.
2. How does a magical girl use her magic?
Magical girls can trigger the use of their magic by allowing themselves to be possessed by the magical entity that matched them. To do this, they must call upon the name of the magical entity while holding the item that represents their power. Upon being possessed, their eye color changes to the color of the magical entity (if that matches their eye color, then it stays the same) and their outfit changes into a magical girl outfit. Magitech suits are capable of channeling the energy of the magical girl outfits through themselves, thus altering their own shape, but allowing a better channel of said energy.
Magic for magical girls is classified in genres, since that was their original configuration. At the moment, a single magical girl can hold four different genres within herself, each giving her a different power. However powerful and enhanced this power may be, however, it will expend the "cria" within the spirit and the fuel of the suit. Both of these are recharged at the end of the day by meeting the quotas set by the mysterious entity and by the government. Failing to recharge will exhaust the fuel in an average of two days and not recharging one´s cria will lead to it´s exhaustion and the death of a magical girl over three days, on average.
By fulfilling her main task, a magical girl´s power is greatly augmented. Not only do they become overall more powerful and need to recharge their magic only once a weak, but they are given one extra special ability

3. What are "magical entities"?
It is an unknown factor as the magical entities don´t know it themselves. There is some pratical information to know though. A magical entity is an independent, bodiless identity, or to simplify a personality without a mind or a body. For reasons unknown they take the form of a painting before they are taken in by the magical girl, then taking on a form that matches the new power of the magical girl. When active, their physical manifestation is through the magical girl´s outfit, and eye color, and on occasion one´s hair color or even their voice.
Though this was never confirmed, some argue a magical entity´s personality shapes its powers. This is not certain, however. What is, is that possession by a magical entity can only be controlled to an extent, as the magical girl looses all control over her own actions, Her mind and intend will be interwined with that of the magical entity´s, making it so the magical entity knows it´s purpose, however, beyond that everything depends on how the magical entity thinks. Their bodies and the information they have access to (memories included) appear to be roughly the same as the wielder´s.
A magical entity is filled with something called "cria", a form of magic energy whose source is thought to be the mysterious entity as she appears to be able to grant it. The cria of a particular magical entity can match a particular literally genre and it is unknown if magical entities come with several types of cria to begin with or if external factors have an influence on the type of cria one has.
4. What kind of tasks does a magical girl have to do?
Magical girls are given four major tasks with their job.
The first is the purpose to fight against the Apparitions. This could be argued to be their main purpose and it is what gave them the status they have today. Magical girls have to fight with and prevent the spread and feeding off the Apparitions.
Secondly, magical girls have to fulfill the daily quotas posed by the mysterious entity. With a few exceptions, these daily quotas generally amount to a particular amount of good deeds that only a magical girl could do. They tend to be relatively simple to meet, as a magical girl´s very survival may depend on being able to meet such a quota, whose meeting will allow their magical entities to automatically restore their cria.
Also relatively simple is the third task, to meet the government quotas. This has only become a thing in recent years as magical girls began wearing the magitech suits. While more standardized , these quotas may change from day to day. However, they come with different options, allowing a person who is unable to meet one version of the quota due to circumtances to be given a chance to meet a different quota to trade in for fuel in the end of the day or beginning (9-12 PM or 6-9 AM) of it.
Lastly, upon receiving their powers as magical girls, each one is assigned a task by the mysterious entity. These tasks are personal and often extremely hard to achieve for said magical girl. However, completing them will give her a full blown promotion among magical girls. Doing so isn´t mandatory, however, a magical girl that doesn´t try at least once a month to progress in her task will be stripped of her powers as a magical girl and maybe more.
5. Can a magical girl kill or harm another?
Yes, yes they can. In fact, apart from government regulations, there are no rules preventing magical girls from fighting or even hurting each other at all. However, a magical girl who is killed will not actually die, but instead be transformed into a different form. It could be a toy, a pet, a chibi version of themselves, anything, but the magical girl will be sealed up inside it and whatever it is will be taken away to a separate realm. The only reason this isn´t classified as a "death" in fact, is the fact they can interfiere with the living world to an extent and the fact the guardian assures magical girls none of them actually died.
However, there IS a way to kill a magical girl for good and that is to have her expend her entire cria.
6. What is the role of magical girls in society?
In recent times, magical girls have become public knowledge and since then their famous heroic acts made them heroes. As time went by, the line between heroes and mere celebrities began to grow thinner, as magical girls weren´t as carefully chosen and their job was ,lot easier with the magisuits. This was further stimulated by the way the magical girls treated themselves allowing people to make them into a show and even starting to participate in battle contests for fame and wealth.
The general high status of this massive group led to a shift in society in their favor. Magical girls are now on top of society. Men in general have taken more of a middle role in society together with retired magical girls and girls too young to be magical girls., whereas non-magical girls are often viewed as either slackers or unfitting depending on whom you ask, thus being at the bottom.
7. Is anyone forced to be a magical girl?
No. In fact, you have the option to retire at any moment even if you are one. Don´t expect people to not come for you if you retire mid-battle (though Apparitions don´t make much of a distinction anyway), but you have such an option. Furthermore, you are asked before being brought to the painting realm whether or not you wish to become a magical girl. Even today, despite the huge status disadvantages, thousands of girls everywhere refuse to become magical girls. Some end up joining up the ranks not with magic but with specialized magicsuits alone. Some do the opposite: there is an independent force of magical girls who believes their purity has been corrupted and thus refuses to use the magicsuits.
This will contain an explanation as to what magical girls are and how they operate in this universe.
