No one really knows what happened to the world that caused it to collapse into darkness. The flat world reduced to a few hundred islands atop the Arceia crystals are all the remain. Expeditions to the void are few and far between, and often no one returns.
To the skies there is the largest and most powerful of the Arceia crystals in The Sun. It draws in Aether, or the energy created when magic is expended and radiated raw magical energy. Magic that is not turned to Aether reaches the darkness of the void and there is rots and corrupts until it becomes Black Magic.
Black Magic twists and corrupts all it comes in contact with and all that it touches. Anything that enters the void without sufficient protections becomes a creature of the Void. These creatures are sometimes summoned by magic, most of the time by a Hexist, are used against other people. There is a large amount of these distorted creatures that are there from when the world fell into the darkness.
Victorium
Victorium is the largest and probably the most spread out nation in all of Arceia. It according to their own history before the fall the were the oldest and the largest nation to exist even then. They place values on equality of the human race and unity with each other. However, they are at odds with other nations with different beliefs such as Ilium.
Proud believer in the power of education of the masses, Victorium runs the most well known and prestigious school for young Magisters, Lightbream Academy. This academy is run by Madric Mervle, the current Grand Magus of Lightbream Academy. He has held this position for the last twenty years.
Victorium prides itself on running nearly entirely on magic instead of other fuels. People can make a decent wage just filling crystals with magic in order to fuel things like street lights and other utilities. While Victorium is not the most advanced of the nations in Arceia, it is proud to be one of the modern nations.
The architecture in Victoria is fairly simple. Wooden and stone buildings built to be small enough to be efficient while still being large enough to be comfortable enough. The largest and probably the most extravagant buildings in Victorium is one left from before The Fall - Lightbream Academy.
Many Magisters in the nation of Victorium travel to the city of Academy to become Magisters...
Ilium
Ilium is a nation that believe that it is a person's magical affinity is what should grant them political sway. Those with high affinities are treated as royalty, and are even taken from their birth families to be raised by Magisters of similar standing. However those with low magic affinity are often treated like servants, or worse slaves.
In Ilium the military is very prestigious, and is relatively small due to the fact that most of it’s members are younger Magisters of higher affinities. Think like the knights in medieval times. Due to this most people who do not have the ability to keep up in a magic battle normally do not end up on a battlefield.
Ilium’s architecture is primarily reminiscent to the architecture of earth during medieval times. Castles and smaller villages around them. They are fond of taller structures for important buildings and the homes of the wealthy, but smaller ones for lesser ones.
Some of Ilium’s students, normally the more gifted ones, travel abroad to study magic, some even at Lightbream Academy...
Alashar
Alashar is mostly located on a single desert island. Most of the settlements are located along The Miahalhayat, the large river that flows through the island. The flooding of the river allows for fertile lands that grow a large variety of exotic spices and regular crops. However despite this, what Alashar is most known for is their large Arceia Crystal exports. Beneath the country of Alashar lies perhaps the largest remaining vein of smaller crystals left in the world.
Coin talks loudest in the cities of Alashar. In the end one’s magic affinity doesn’t mean much if they don’t have the coin to back them up. Many people come to Alashar seeking their fortune. So of them do, but the most of them end up making a small to decent wage working in the crystal trade.
The architecture in Alashar is mostly sandstone buildings that are build to be cool in the desert heat. They favor open markets and grand bazaars. The people tend to wear brightly colored clothing and jewelry due to the wealth of the nation.
Many young Magisters of Alashar have enough wealth to travel and choose their schools. It is not uncommon for them to join the studies in Lightbream Academy...
Punacia
The most warlike of the Nations, Punacia has the single largest military of all of the nations. All citizens are required to serve at least three years in the military when they come of age. There are very few exceptions to this rule, including people who are deathly ill and people who are crippled to the point where they could not fight at all. The most fulfilling thing a person can do is serve in the military. As such, it does not matter when affinity for magic and what race they are. All that matters is that they achieve honor for their country through war.
The majority of Magisters that come out of Punacian schools are war-mages. As such Punacia is constantly at war with some nation trying to expand their borders and military forces. Currently, they are at war with both Victorium and Ilium as they are trying to take some of their smaller islands.
Most of the architecture in Punacia is built to be very strong and resilient to magical bombardment. Most homes have a shelter underground in case of attack. Their homes are fairly simple, meant for living in but not really living in. While they do have people who work in areas other than the military, they are not as prominent.
Despite the war some young war-mages decide to pose as normal Magisters in order to hone their skills at Lightbream Academy...
Leicia
Perhaps the least noteworthy of the five major nations of Arceia, Leicia is a very peaceful place. It is a the smallest of the largest nations, as well as the one with the least amount of Magisters in their workforce. The area consists mostly a lush grassy field and gentle forests. As such the majority of the people who come from Leicia are farmers by trade.
Leicia is a quiet place where the concerns of the other islands don’t really seem to matter as much. Most people don’t concern themselves with the war or the dwindling space to live. The most that the people of Leicia need are the simple pleasures in life: sunny day, a nice breeze, a little good pipe weed...
The buildings in Leicia are mostly wooden, they tend to be well polished and painted as there is little else to spend one’s money on other than a fair home. The roads are usually dirt roads. Most folks own a little bit of land. Most of those folks tend to the land.
Looking to learn magic that will better serve their community, some of Leicia’s residents will go to Lightbream Academy to become practical Magisters.

Magister World Building
The islands of Arceia are all the is left of the world. There are nearly two hundred floating islands of different sizes and locations/heights. These islands float above a desole and horrific land known as The Void, the rotting remains of the world that fell.
No one really knows what happened to the world that caused it to collapse into darkness. The flat world reduced to a few hundred islands atop the Arceia crystals are all the remain. Expeditions to the void are few and far between, and often no one returns.
