~Character Application~
Have you read all the details?Steady on, eager adventurer! Ensure you've read all the other tabs before you turn to this one! You can access them via the links above! Exclamation marks galore! |
In Magicborne, each player shall primarily play as the remaining twin, left to deal with the consequences of their sibling's capture and thrust into the dangerous quest to locate them - so for them, fill out a main character form. Here's a couple of pointers for you. The idea is that our characters start relatively weak (as is reflected in the starting stats), growing stronger as the RP goes on. So please make sure your characters are planned around the potential for development. The twins can be either identical or non-identical, same gender or different gender - both options would be interesting to explore! Similarly, all of our characters were born in Bordissa, and either work and live there, or must have good reason to be back visiting on the day of the kidnappings. I won't tolerate cookie-cutter characters, so ensure your characters aren't one-sided.
That said, you'll notice the main character form is not alone. During the intermissions between chapters (and during the opening scene), we will also be playing the other twin. They count more as secondary characters, and whilst we'll be playing them occasionally (and they're incredibly central in the plot!) they shouldn't be considered your protagonist, as is reflected in the lesser content of the twin form. Twins may have different magic veins (as remember, veins are down to personal choice!), and you do not need to fill in a stats section for them. There's also a third form, a writer introduction form. Please DON'T fill this in until you've been formally accepted into the RP; once you have, please edit it into your post (and you might also want to post it in the OOC!) The idea behind this is to get to know each-other a bit better before we start writing, as we'll have more fun as friends/fwends !
To apply, please simply post your completed form down below! When you've done so, I'll give it a good look and then PM you with any edits I might require. Don't be afraid of this, this is just to make sure we're all on the same page. Once you've completed your edits and informed me, if all is fine I'll then formally accept you by liking your post, and then we encourage you to hop on over to the OOC page, post your writer introduction form and start planning out your character's relationships with other characters. If your form is nowhere near my expectations, sadly I'll be forced to outright reject you, though we wish you luck and happy writing elsewhere in a more suitable tale for you!
~The Stats System~
Credit to welian for inspiring this!
Credit to welian for inspiring this!
'Ah, numbers!' cry a chorus of mortified writers. Fear not - the system is relatively simple. The stats system is in place for three reasons: firstly, to balance people's battle abilities; secondly, to provide reference to the strength and abilities of enemy NPCs; and thirdly, to provide and encourage a sense of progression. It relates SOLELY to combat scenarios; you'll notice there's no defense related stats as taking damage is entirely up to your own common sense and creativity. At the end of each chapter, each character will be given an extra four stat points to use at their behest.
There are a total of six stat categories, with values ranging from one to nine. One is the lowest possible, nine unnaturally high, with four as your average Joe's rank. Each characters will begin with a maximum of twenty points to spend, with no more than six in any one stat - this cap will be gradually increased as the RP goes on. Here's a brief description of each stat:
-
Technique
- Your character’s ability with a weapon/weapons of their choice, as detailed elsewhere in the relevant section of the form, be it bow, sword, etc. or a made up medieval-style weapon. Guns and gunpowder related weapons are not allowed. As you need a soul to use magic, there is no such thing as magical/enchanted weapons, though people do sometimes channel magic through weapons, especially if constructed from Mananite (and weapons can be charmed by a charmer). The higher the Technique value, the more comfortable and skilled the character is with their weapon. One would mean not knowing how to use any weapon; four would be your average person, reasonably competent though relatively inexperienced in actual combat; six would be a low-ranked soldier; and nine an unrivaled prodigy.
-
Physicality
- Your character’s physical fitness, including their stamina, endurance and muscular strength, allowing them to last longer in combat and use their power to their advantage. The higher the Physicality value, the greater these qualities become. One would be a complete weed; four your average tradesman; six your standard Protector; and nine basically a medieval Dwayne the Rock.
-
Intelligence
- Your character’s combat wits, including strategic knowledge and ability and general worldly knowledge. A character with high intelligence might be well-versed in battlefield tactics, alongside knowing enough about the world to identify materials and locations which might prove helpful - somebody might have read all sorts of war stories but have no combat experience, and hence they would have a strong intelligence stat in spite of weaker technique/physicality stats. One would suggest an entirely inexperienced recluse; four would know the combat basics competently; six might be well-knowledged in general society and beginning to intentionally employ unorthodox battle tactics; nine would be a strategic brainbox.
-
Perception
- Your character’s awareness in the heat of combat - their ability to keep tabs on their immediate situation and respond with adaptability, spotting openings, staying on their toes, and keeping a cool head. The greater the perception value, the greater their propensity for the above attributes. One might be completely lost in combat; four would be able to act semi-fearfully on wit and instinct; six would be able to keep their head and spot some openings; nine would be entirely unafraid and an on-the-spot genius.
-
Aptitude
- Your character’s proficiency in handling magic. This magic falls into a single vein as described in the magic section of the form, where we also expect a little detail concerning their abilities and experience. A higher aptitude value indicates a greater proficiency and capacity to use magic without detrimental affect. One would be entirely untrained, two the bare minimum to survive and infrequently use magic; four your standard tradesman able to use magic sensibly but not for extended periods of time; six a low ranked soldier’s level, able to use magic combatively with a greater capacity than normal; nine an unmatched legend.
-
Fortune
- Your character’s luck, according to the fabric of magic itself. Luck and fortune are very much scientific reality in this world, and your characters find themselves affected accordingly - a higher fortune value indicates higher general luckiness. Here, four would be a completely neutral standing, with three/five ever so slightly unlucky/lucky, all the way down to one as a disaster magnet and up to nine as the kind of person who’d win the lottery multiple times (if there was a lottery in this world, that is...)
The Character Forms!
The actual forms are below, accompanied by some guidance on what I expect from each section. I'm not great with coding, so if you want to fancy up your form feel free, just make sure it's still easily navigable!
Though we have began, this RP is currently open and accepting, and will be so until the end of the first chapter! So don't be afraid to drop in an application! |
- Main Character Form!
-
Name:
Full name! Generally I've gone Latinate/Italian sounding names for Nortalians, and Hebrew-root names for Meridanians (though you're free to be flexible with that!)
Age:
Either 18/19 given they were all born nineteen years ago.
Appearance:
Include a picture (either realistic, anime or drawing is fine with me!) and then at least a paragraph of description! Include your character's height, and other stuff such as hair colour, eye colour, clothing, physique, etc!
Personality:
At least three paragraphs describing what your character is like, complete with both strengths and weaknesses.
Tagline:
A snappy little sentence of no more than six words which encapsulates your character - for example, 'The Hardy Hunter', 'The Man Without a Plan', or 'Misfortunate Incarnate', etc.
Code:[side=right][sh]Stats:[/sh] Edit the bars to allocate your stats: each character begins with twenty points to spend, with no higher than 6 allowed in any one stat. Copy and paste the shaded and unshaded boxes accordingly (and feel free to colour them in!)

[th]Stat[/th][th]Value[/th][th]Total[/th]

Technique⬛⬛⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜?

Physicality⬛⬛⬛⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜?

Intelligence⬛⬛⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜?

Perception⬛⬛⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜?

Aptitude⬛⬛⬛⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜?

Fortune⬛⬛⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜?

[/side]
At least two paragraphs - it doesn't need to be all doom and gloom and tragedy necessarily though as our characters will have lived fairly regular lives (albeit in a highly irregular world). Include your character's current occupation.
Acquaintances:
Most of this section will be gradually filled in after you are accepted. Use the OOC to discuss with other players how your characters might know and think about each-other, as remember all of our characters were born in the same year in the same rural community, so connections are highly likely! Please also fill this section with relationships to family members such as their twin
Magic Vein:
Your character's chosen vein of magic: see the magic section! Also add a brief description of their common uses of it, and their capabilities.
Weaponry and Inventory:
Does your character own/know how to use a weapon? What do they carry around with them normally? (or what will they take on the journey?)
Skills, Interests and Fears:
Fairly self-explanatory - at least one paragraph!
Other:
Any miscellaneous details!
Link to RPing Sample:
Provide a link to a recent example of your writing in an RP context, just for reference!

Notable NPCs
Along our travels, we will encounter a number of additional characters. Whilst combat enemies and random people like street salesmen can be controlled by you, there are a number of key NPCs who'll be involved in the plot and who will be controlled solely by either me or Semblance . Here's another cheeky accordion for them!
- King Auxis Gazam of Nortalis
- The Gazam family is the long-standing royal family of Nortalis, situated in their castle in the capital Salarch. Auxis himself is a fifty nine Ignal as per kingly tradition, and has been at war with Meridania almost immediately since he came to the throne twenty-six years ago after the Seer Crisis. A younger Auxis was horrified to find his soul declared tainted at a visit to an Assemblant seer in spite of regularly practicing his incantations. He then lead an almost city-wide inquest which discovered everybody was suffering from the same problem. This lead the king and his senior scholars to conclude that some sort of dark curse must have been placed upon the entire nation, with spies in Meridania reporting the corruption of their current Lekheyr. In order to save his people from this purported curse, the king launched a full bloody military assault on Meridania, which has continued to this day. A tall and foreboding man, he largely keeps himself to high society, save for rare public audiences and visits to spur on army training camps. He has a wife, Queen Tesopa, and five children, ranging from their early thirties to their late teens: Victor, Primea, Mataea, Ulthur and Mirium.
- Lekheyr Chalach Tzarut Meldiyv
- The current Lekheyr of Meridania, Nortalians know incredibly little about Chalach Tzarur Meldiyv apart from purported tales of his corruption and his poor treatment of his own subjects. He is depicted in propaganda as a narrow-eyed, deceptively handsome desert-dweller, with long, dark hair.
- Duke Cognis Gressiarza
- The leading academic at the prominent Salarch University, Cognis is an abstinent Sensorae credited with much of the recent decades scientific process. A man of about thirty-five with swept-back golden hair, he is known for his stubborn determination and general stuttering manner. He is also a man of intensive privacy, though it is known his wife died ten years ago giving birth to his son, Enzo, an incident which has left him frequently traumatized, keeping his son in seclusion until very recently.
- The Three Heroes
- Folktales spread from village to village about the latest exploits of the Three Heroes, figureheads of the Nortalian army: Fabian Fortagon, the fearless Ignal and son of the king's brother; Quentin Bellia, the collected and strategic Acquarian; and Roburdo Proguer, the short-tempered but heroic Aurval. So many tall-tales have been told at this point that it's difficult to discern the actual characters behind these figures, but these three heroes are celebrity figures and the 'I want to be when I grow up' of many Nortalian children.
- Faustus Mordecai
- Another celebrity figure known as the greatest magician of the current age, Mordecai is an arrogant Ventant famous for selling incredibly short-term good luck and putting on remarkable shows of his magical prowess at Salarch, both usually for a hefty fee.
- Albalocke Duske
- A mysterious Protector in Salarch.
- Cordelius Fugal
- An kindly old man who's lived in Bordissa since the twins were all born. He has always acted as a sort of additional grandfather to the twins, known and loved for his sacrificial kindness to everybody, and for his protective watchfulness over them in their childhood days; he's lived as a sort of hermit as his kindness has generally lead people to repay him with kindness, though this was certainly never his intention! He lived with his wife Cistea who passed away a year ago. He has remained abstinent with magic for as long as anybody can remember, and goes unusually quiet when the topic is brought up. He was killed after a surprisingly personal conversation with the mysterious bandits before they ransacked Bordissa.
~Cast List/Character Database~
Fancy Standing Out?Currently we have 11 players with a variety of different characters! We won't be accepting any more Sanitigion characters due to popularity, and we also have a lot of bowmen, Sensorae and Traslocal folks! How about trying out a more quirky weapon - a pike, or a spear, or the like? Additionally we also currently have no Agrirran characters, and no Ghiacciel, Mortius or Aurval main characters! |
Below is a database containing some key and interesting information about each character for your viewing needs! If you're planning a character, use it to see what kind of stuff we already have and spur on your creativity accordingly!
