It was more or less an average school day. Kids clumping the halls, yelling, shouting, the janitor who is totally not Stan Lee getting knocked down. Finally Richard managed to get to class. Everyone was talking amongst themselves but hushed when Principle Eaton came in with some girl.

"Hello students." He said in that formal "I'm the boss" voice of his. "As you know, the school is on a rather tight budget. Your teacher is out sick today and all our substitutes are otherwise occupied. Due to this, you will be havong a free period. Also, in more uplifting news, we have a new student." He gestured at the girl who was with him. "This is Serenity Rowe. Please try to make her feel welcome. That is all for now. I have some paperwork to fill out."

Everyone knew that "having paperwork to fill out" was code for "pig out on donuts and sleep." There was never any paperwork. The school was ona tight budget so they hardly ever invested money in things. But that wasn't important right now. What was important was that they had a...

"Free period!" Richard shouted, pumping his fist in the air as he completed the thought vocally. He pulled out a box containing a card game. "Who's up for a game of Sentinels of the Miltiverse!"

His usual group crowded around as he set up.

Meanwhile, Adrian Thane was on the other side of the room. He didn't like school. Too many people. At least all of his friends were in his class. He sat in a corner on his switch playing Breath of the Wild. He would get every last Korok seed if it killed him. And it did. A lot.

Rayna West​

Rayna wasn't very concerned with Principal Eaton, she was busy trying to get her pen flipping skills on point, discreetly making it spin behind an Ethics textbook she was reading. She didn't lift her eyes from her hands until the new girl was introduced: she seemed quiet, and kinda cute. After Richard's shout (which was loud, an annoying to her), she diverted her gaze towards Adrian with the intention of telling him to go greet the new face along with her, but after seeing him tapping buttons on his Switch with what seemed to be increasing frustration, she sighed, rolled her eyes and let the situation be.

"Don't cut yourself with that virtual sword, edgelord." She said to himself, and proceeded to approach Serenity on her own.

Rayna approached the girl, still flipping that pen with her left hand.
"Heeeyz there! Uh... name's Rayna. Rayna West." She said, stretching her hand moderately to see if she caught on the high-five. "So! Skipping the soap, you seem cool, and I like cool. If you want someone to show you the ropes 'round, I can do it."

Adrian sighed. Was he the only one here who had any sense. Well, actually, Naomi probably had more sense than him but that was besides the point. Rayna would probably say something wrong and get herself into trouble. Or out of trouble since that seemed to be her specialty. How she avoided trouble when she caused so much of it was a mystery to him.

SERENITY ROWE​

As Principal Eaton addressed the class and introduced them to the new student, Serenity, for her part, played on her phone. The new Snapchat filters were pretty dope, she had to admit, but nothing beat a good old dog face filter. 500 selfies later, about half of which involved her posing with her Starbucks cup like a totally basic girl, the principal had gone, and the entire class was left to themselves.

Serenity was interrupted mid-selfie by another who introduced herself as Rayna. Her eyes flashed briefly; she had seen this girl before. But that glint was soon gone as Rayna offered a tour. "Like, yes please!" Serenity chirped. "A tour would be soooo great."

LILI McILROY​

Yay, free period. Another excuse to slack off, and this time, it was legitimate. Lili fumbled about in her backpack, hunting for her sketchbook, pencils, and headphones, all of which she found. Though, to her dismay, the headphone wires were all tangled up. Oh well. She set up her whole deal, put on some heavy metal, and began to sketch idly, all with her trademark "meh" expression on her face.

As she drew, her mind wandered back to the events of last night, with Stratosphere and the magical gems and the minotaur. This seemed like something lifted directly out of an anime of some kind, and while she wasn't opposed to the idea of being a magical girl, she was a bit concerned as to how she was going to 1.) explain it to her parents, 2.) juggle fighting monsters with fighting homework, and 3.) find her goshdarn dangly cherry. She hadn't been able to find it last night.

NAOMI WRIGHT​

In the very back row of desks, near the corner where Adrian sat playing his game, Naomi sat hugging her backpack, not really thinking about the events of the previous evening. Her eyes were fixed on Adrian, and her heart beat quickly. For within her backpack was her own Switch, loaded up with a game of ARMS. And she was preparing herself for what she once thought was impossible: she was going to ask Adrian to play with her. If she could help fight a minotaur, then she could by golly ask her crush to play a video game with her.

Adrian felt a bit uncomfortable. Was someone watching him? He could usually tell when someone was paying attention to him because very few people actually did, much to his relief. He turned around. It was just Naomi. Huh. She had a weird look in her eyes. Probably nothing. He went back to his game.

The new girl, Serenity, seemed like an airhead. Selfies, Starbucks, snap-chat. All the standard features. And the way she talked. Who used the word "like" like that? Ugh. He made a mental note to avoid her at all costs.

Richard was thinking about what had happened last night. It had been... dark. He had woken ip in armor and stuff. It was weird. Ah well, no time to think about that now. He had a game to play. But they needed a fifth.

"Hey new girl... ah... Serenity! We're missing a player over here. Care to join us?"

Richard was just being friendly. And also he kind of wanted to romance her. Because, y'know, 78th times the charm.

Phoebe Nesseth​

Phoebe had been in a daze most of the morning, still mulling over the events of the other night. She hadn't had the most exciting life, but she had been through some wild stuff on occasion... still, nothing in comparison to literally transforming into a magical girl and fighting a giant monster. Her head was swimming with questions: how is this possible? What will we do when it happens again? Why us? And what does it all mean?! Worst of all, she couldn't even tell anyone about it! They'd all freak, so of course she had to keep it hush-hush. She felt like a pressure cooker, practically bursting with the need to talk this out with someone, maybe work out her confusion, but she just couldn't. It barely registered to her that the principal had announced a free period, but the class's loud cheers snapped her out of it and clued her into what was going on. Everyone seemed to be content to goof off and play games, but she needed a deeper distraction right now. So, she chose to do something unheard of... her homework! Being productive was decidedly uncharacteristic of her, but she had to drown out her thoughts by focusing on something else. Thus, against all odds, she pulled out her notebook and began doing algebra.

"Riiight...!" Rayna said. She was a little taken aback by the speech stretches, but tried to keep her demeanor as straight as she could. "Seems like we're off for the day, so! We can ditch and-- "

Rayna's suggestion was hijacked by Richard's comment. She glared at him with a stare that tried to convey as clearly the words really, dude? But took aback a second to let Serenity respond.

Who was this beta male, trying to get her over to play some dumb game with him? A disgusted look came over Serenity's face, and the purple rhinestones in her glasses flashed momentarily. "Um, ew. No," she replied, effectively shutting Richard down. Turning back to Rayna, she said, "Yeah, let's ditch. I can't even here."

Richard had to admit that was kind of a rude tone. But why bother starting something when he could just play his game.

"Okay then." He said politely. "Hope you enjoy the school."

She probably wouldn't. Not a lot of people did. It was school. It had a sucky budget. They never learned anything. But, hey. There were friends here so that was good at least.
