Secretly an Alien, Shhh
Hello everyone! My name is Mae and I'm returning to this wonderful website after two-and-a-half years, and I'm desperate for a couple stories. I'm still reacquainting myself with the workings of RpNation, but I came here to RP, so I suppose there's no point in delaying, huh? Let's get to it!
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
~ About Me ~
As stated above, my name is Mae and I'm not new to RP. I was taught to RP when I was twelve and continued to do so until I was fourteen. Unfortunately, high school caused me to abandon the craft for a couple of years, save one or two private roleplays with school friends. I have, however, recently rediscovered the stress relief that writing can be and as a high school senior... Yeah, I need that.
I'm seventeen years of age and live in the EST time zone. My time is limited to a couple short windows per weekday, as I am an AP student, a scholarship applicant, and assistant for our school's musical production. That being said, I will attempt to post multiple times a week, or at least once. My posts vary in length with my partners, but my average capabilities tend to be from two to five paragraphs depending on the point in the plotline and what I have to work with. (I can do seven or maybe eight in certain situations, though, and some of my introduction posts are pretty lengthy.)
I would love a partner who is willing to talk OOC, both in terms of planning the story further and in terms of just chatting. Part of my reason for rejoining this community is that I wanted some more writing friends. I'm a bit socially awkward, but I love to talk and I adore almost everyone, so no need to be shy.

~ My Habits and Preferences, Revisited ~
2) I usually post anywhere from two to five paragraphs depending on how much is happening in the story. I try to match my partner's posts, but I really can't go any higher than seven or maybe eight on a regular basis. That being said, if you're a fan of one-liners, I'm probably not a good partner for you.
3) I'll let you know if I'm planning to be gone for a decent length of time. Afford me the same courtesy, please. I really won't hate you for it.
4) No sexual content. I don't think it's allowed on this website, but still. On this note, let me know if you have anything you'd like to avoid, whether it's a major trigger or a small squick.
5) I'm under the EST time zone, in case you're someone who prefers a certain amount of overlap.
6) Reminder that I am seventeen. (I will be eighteen in about two months, however.) I have RPed with people older than me in the past, and I'm okay with it, but I understand that some adults prefer to avoid RPing with minors. Also, I'm open to RPing with anyone younger. Age is not an indication of ability.
7) We will use a simple CS. In 1x1s, I prefer learning about the other character as we go rather than an info dump at the beginning.

Sci-Fi | FxF | Alien x Cora*
Twenty-three year old Cora Beckett is fresh out of college and ready for her big break. She has the connections, she has the ambition... Now if only she had the ideas. After all these years of thinking that screenwriting was easy, of being told that she'd have an audience in no time... Nothing seems good enough.
Deciding that she needs a change in scenery from her lovely little rural hometown, Cora moves to New York City and is instantly captivated by the sheer human presence. She begins frequenting a local night club, simply sitting in a corner booth and allowing the raw humanity of the place to wash over her. After all, where there are people, there are ideas, and at least one of those ideas is bound to be worthy of perusal... Right?
She begins to take notice to one regular in particular, a woman who always seems to be there. She is fascinated by the life the woman exudes, and can't help but watch.
Unfortunately, the woman notices the fact that she notices. And she notices other things, too.
Namely, she notices the science fiction stickers across Cora's laptop, the space shirts, the attentive glance. And she comes to the entirely wrong conclusion that she's been discovered.

Her Name is Ashayam
Star Trek | MxF | Sarek* x Amanda
If you know who Sarek and Amanda are, you probably know what I want to do with this. Sarek is a fresh-faced ambassador from a revered clan, Amanda is a school teacher with a big heart and a love of learning, they meet, sparks fly, the hilarity of Sarek attempting human courtship, etc, etc. I’m simply obsessed with their dynamic and the prospect of playing out their backstory.
I’d like to have another, nonromantic plotline as well, but have no ideas, so prepare to brainstorm.
Also this is the original timeline. So yep.
Title based on the uber cute scene in The Vulcan Academy murders where Sarek uses the meaning of the name “Amanda” as a logical reason to use pet names because he’s trash like that. Also considered calling it “I Married a Little Green Man,” the headline in the ridiculous scene in Spock’s World by Diane Duane where Amanda insists to a reporter that there’s nothing little about her husband but uh... Yeah.

The Legend of T'hy'la (TAKEN)
Star Trek | FxF | Noble* x Servant
Set on Vulcan before Surak's Reforms.
After being declared incapable of bearing progeny and breaking her bond with her mate, [Noble] becomes obsessed with the legend of t'hy'la, the complete other half of a Vulcan's katra, someone who will always love and cherish you, someone who's always waiting for you, a mate you choose rather than take for the sake of procreation. The prospect consumes her, until she decides to embark on a journey around Vulcan to find the woman who is supposed to be her
friend, sister, and lover even after their bodies die. She receives her clan's blessing and embarks on the dangerous journey. She takes her personal servant with her to attend to her needs.
[Servant] has served [Noble] and her house for many long years, after her clan was defeated in a raid. Like many survivors of raids, she was made a servant to a high house. No matter how she feels about it, she submits to her new place in life, knowing that the same thing would have happened to another clan had hers raided theirs. When she is assigned to [Noble], before her betrothed's first Pon Farr and subsequent pregnancy and miscarriage, she attempts to serve the
woman to the best of her ability.
While out in the desert, moving between clans in search of [Noble]'s t'hy'la, the two begin to develop a friendship more fulfilling than any they had before. [Servant] becomes aware of her feelings for her mistress, but wonders if [Noble] is too obsessed with finding perfection to see what's standing right in front of her.
(Even if you're not totally familiar with pre-reform culture, you can still play this. I'm more than willing to explain pre-Surakian customs, as it's a source of fascination for me. Also, if you don't the meaning of t'hy'la, I can offer an explanation of the story behind it. Because, again, I love pre-Surakian culture and the Vulcan language.)

Love Song***
Realistic | MxM | Prince x Interest*
[Interest] has known of the link between his mother and the civilian-born queen for most of his life. The two grew up in the same neighborhood as childhood friends, staying in contact even once they went their own separate ways to pursue their individual dreams. It came as a great surprise to [Interest]'s mother to receive an invitation to the royal wedding, where her dear friend would be marrying the widowed king and become the mother to his children. Although at first suspicious, it soon became clear that her friend was truly in love. From there on out, [Interest]'s mother received invitations to the annual Christmas Ball.
[Interest] grew up with his parents leaving for a week around the holidays each year to their "adult party," aware on some level that they were attending an event hosted by the king and queen. What he doesn't expect is that after his parents died in a crash on their way home after one of the Balls when he was sixteen, was that the invitation would be transferred to him instead. On some level angry at his parents for leaving him behind and angry at his mother's friend for putting him in this position, he resolves to never accept the invitation. Still, every year, the come, and he keeps them.
Five years after the death of his parents, [Interest] is attending college near one of the Royal Households when one of his friends learns that he receives invitations to the Christmas Ball. A long-time fan of the work the queen did before and after marrying into the royal family (science, writing, art, music, linguistics, politics, whatever you want), she begs [Interest] to take her as his plus-one so that she might meet her idol. Reluctant to face the woman who took his parents from him but cowed by his friend's excitement, [Interest] decides to go.
The party is not what he expects. The king, queen, and their children (both those provided by his first wife and the ones that belonged to both of them) mill about and socialize of their own accord. Swallowing his long-seated anger, [Interest] moves to introduce himself and his friend to the queen, who is seated with [Prince], her youngest child. [Prince] stays relatively quiet as his mother fauns over her friend's son, but when [Interest] dismisses himself to allow his friend and the queen to converse in private, [Prince] takes it upon himself to follow. The two converse, perhaps dance, and his interest in the man grows. At the end of the night, [Prince] requests the honor to meet up with [Interest] again, but [Interest] simply smiles and tells him that the night would have to be enough.
[Prince] does not give up so easily. Instead, he actively pursues the other man, showering him with gifts and pretty promises in hopes that he'll come around. [Interest]'s friends are amused by his constant presence, and most are confused as to why [Interest] doesn't give the poor man a chance. Gradually, [Prince] learns of [Interest]'s deepseated fears and grudges, and sets about showing him that if only he can stand to let himself love him, [Prince] will not let him down.
Set in one of my sandboxes, called "the World of Six Kingdoms." Basically, it's a modern royalty setting where each inhabited continent is headed by a royal family. This story would take place in the North American Kingdom, within the vicinity of the San Francisco Royal Household. The North American Royal Family would have a number of Households across the continent, however, so there's opportunities for changes in setting. I'm willing to double for this (you are one of [Interest]'s friends and me as one of [Prince]'s siblings), but it's not required.

Area Fifty-One
Sci-fi | FxF or MxF | Scientist x Ruth*
"We're calling her Ruth."
[Scientist] has been with Area 51 for a good chunk of time, but as far as he/she's concerned, there never has been any aliens there. No, they deal with covering up government experimentation and keeping the public calm in times of turmoil. There's no such thing as aliens, course. As one could expect, his/her life is turned upside down when he/she is promoted to the team that cares for and studies "Ruth," an alien woman who was incarcerated eighteen months prior. Turns out, they've been aware of aliens at Area 51 all along, he/she simply didn't have the clearance level.
The thing is about Ruth... The other scientists joke about her otherworldly beauty and talk about her as an exotic pet, but [Scientist] can see the personality and vulnerability in her. He/she begins to pity the poor creature, and stays after hours to hold one-sided conversation with the creature and try to lift her spirits. Certain experiments and studies suddenly seem too invasive for this creature, and each time [Scientist] find him/herself leaving Ruth's encasement hours after he/she should have gone home, he/she wonders if she did something to him/her, or if he/she is simply seeing her for what she really is.

My Father’s Doll***
Realistic | MxF or MxM | Son* x Captive
WARNING FOR OFFSCREEN DARK THEMES (RAPE, TORTURE, ETC.)
[Son] is well aware of the fact that his father is a sick and twisted man. Something in him cracked when Mother killed herself, and he hasn’t been the same since. The first time that his father brought a captive home, he was too young to do anything about it, and his father hid what was going on well enough that he didn’t truly know what was going on. But as [Son] got older, it sunk in that his father was one of those people they always warned you about. Finally, he cracks, and arranges for his father’s latest captive to make an escape. Fortunately, the man doesn’t suspect that his son was involved. Unfortunately, he manages to dispose of the captive before they can leave the estate, and he moves on to his next victim and ramps up the precautions.
With the death of an innocent weighing heavily on his shoulders, [Son] resolves not to get involved with his father’s newest victim, but he can’t find it in himself to stay away from [Captive], especially when he knows that he/she is suffering. Therefore, he allows himself to help them in any way he can without putting him/her in a position where Father would end their life. After all, a life of suffering is better than death… Right?
Based on an old RP my mentor and I did when I was younger and still learning to roleplay. I would love to try this again.

That Which Binds Us***
Fantasy | FxF or MxF | Prince(ss) x Mage*
(Also willing to play this as a BBC Merlin AU, if you’d prefer. You’d be Arthur, I’d be Merlin.)
In an Arthurian setting, magic is against the law at the risk of execution. On this fact, the king refuses to waver. When [Mage] is discovered while on a personal journey, she is taken to the dungeon to await her death. [Prince(ss)], who makes a point to visit those sentenced to death in hopes of granting them closure despite his/her own ingrained distaste for magic, is a bit put off by [Mage]’s refusal to tell him/her just what she was doing. She simply asks that he bury her one valuable possession – a pendant from her mother – so that no one takes it for themselves. [Prince(ss)] gives her his/her word. It seems harmless enough. But when their hands come into contact, something unexpected happens. A link forms between them, and [Mage] looks on in astonishment. [Prince(ss)] demands an explanation.
[Mage] quickly explains her reason for entering the kingdom: she was looking for her soulmate. Magic-born individuals have the ability to sense their soulmate when they come in contact with them. A prophet advised her that she would find her soulmate in or near the palace, and she set out to find him or her. She also explains that if one of them dies, they’ll both die, as that is the nature of the soul bond.
Appalled and more than a little afraid, [Prince(ss)] demands that the bond be broken, but [Mage] insists that she cannot do so. A little sadly, she admits that there is one magic-born who might be strong enough to break their bond, but it likely wouldn’t be without cost. She also expresses reluctance to put [Prince(ss)] in danger by asking him/her to release her so that they might have the bond broken. Seeing the problems with this, [Prince(ss)] seeks audience with his/her father, who grants them permission to undertake the journey, seeing the soul bond as a wicked trick. [Prince(ss)] is inclined to agree, and employs a number of guards to travel with them. [Mage] is closely guarded by the [Prince(ss)] him/herself and chained within her tent during the nights.
Throughout the journey, the pair learn about one another, and [Prince(ss)] begins to wonder if he/she has been disillusioned as to the nature of magic and if this soul bond is perhaps a blessing for both him/her and his/her people.
