Madame Le Foi's School Of Dance

Binnie Ryman

Long may she reign
Eliza Hamilton was in a hurry. She had woken up late and was late for her first lesson of the day. She walked quickly down the hall on her way to the lessen. Her heart pounded and her eyes were wide with fear, knowing Madame Le Foi would be furious if she was late.

Neal Was seated by his mothers side the dancers who were early were making noise but Neal could just as easily tune out noise as he could miss noise, he looked over his music as he gently ran his hands up and down his violin that was sitting in his lap. It was his way of tuning, he felt out the instrument, and the tensions and looseness of the strings and the slow seductive curve of the wood. Violin was his favorite, it was so much like a piece of art, music was strange to him, he could hear some of it, but what he really enjoyed was feeling it. He knew that no one else experienced music in the way that he did, and he pitted them, he could feel every note in his heart, if he held a note on his strings for long his heart would flutter and swell in anxiety, he could make a feeling emotional and physical with music. It was wonderful.

He looked over at his mother whose eyes were sweeping the room, taking in every dancer, he could almost feel her listing off in her head what she needed to tell each one. There were still those rushing in, he could feel her ticking off the time that each one entered the room, deductions increasing as the clock ticked closer to starting. He heard a giggle then sharp and clear, some pitches were so loud he could cry. He turned to a group of dancers, the ones that made the sounds and instantly his eyes were met, a blonde girl smiled at him. Her name was CeCe, he had known her for years, his mother favored her often. He turned, he didn't like to talk to the Dancers, they liked to talk to him though, there were very few men around who weren't dancers, and there was this code, never spoken, never whispered, that Dancers didn't date Dancers.

However, his mother might not see them shaking their head and moving their lips so fast in the shameful joke of Madame Le Foi and her son who limped and talked funny, but he did.

Then he felt the jolt, as his mother slammed the stick into the ground to sign the start of practice, the vibrations traveled up his spine into his head and back down to his heart, and despite himself he flinched. Just then a dancer he hadn't seen before flew into the room, she was pretty but in an average way, it was her eyes though that made him look again. Blue, like his, but... he couldn't place it...

Eliza burst into the room, a terrified look on her face. She had never been late before, so she hoped Madame Le Foi would go easy on her, but something in her said she wouldn't. She felt scared and embarrassed when every girl in the class had their eyes on Eliza. She felt like she was being judged, and, to be honest, she probably was. Her best friend, Evelyn Carne, looked at Eliza with sympathy before she turned to the rest of the girls in the class and gave them a mean look. A look that told them to stop looking at Eliza. Despite being a generally happy person, Evelyn could be tough when she needed. And she usually needed to be tough to defend Eliza. Eliza was grateful that she had a best friend who looked out for her in such a way. She was also a bit ashamed that she couldn't stick up for herself and she had to rely on someone else to defend her. She wished she would someday be able to do the same for Evelyn.

Eliza gave Evelyn a small, sad smile. A smile that thanked Evelyn for being such a good friend. Evelyn turned to Madame Le Foi and slowly walked up to her. She knew how strict Madame Le Foi could be and was scared how Madame Le Foi would react to her being late. She opened her mouth to try to explain herself to Madame Le Foi, yet no words came out. She was a nervous and shy person as it was, there was no doubt that she would be even more nervous in front of Madame Le Foi, who was most likely the strictest person she knew. Eliza closed her mouth and tried to gather what she would say in her mind. Once she had gathered them, she opened her mouth again and was able to actually give an explanation.

"M-Madame, I, I am so, so sorry I am late," said Eliza with her usual stutter. "I, I, I accidentally woke up late. I, I, I know that's a terrible excuse and I am terrible s-s-sorry. P-please forgive me, M-Madame."

Eliza took a step back and waited impatiently for Madame Le Foi, awaiting her judgment, scared of what it might be. She took a quick look back and saw Evelyn give her a sympathetic look. Eliza gave her a small smile before turning her head ever so slightly to face Madame Le Foi, her scared face returning to her. Her body stiffened as she continued to wait for judgement.

(Sorry, CRAZY week school will be over in a week and I will have more time :3)

(Oh and Culture Note: deaf refers to the ability to not hear Deaf refers to the community. Neal is HOH - hard of hearing- but he is meant to be pretty much Deaf in the cultural aspect and becoming more and more deaf as his life goes on - I'm a ASL student if that's confusing I can explain better in PM )

Neal glanced at his mother, the girl's stutter was making her extremely hard for him to understand. He missed words in normal speech but her's he just couldn't seem to follow. However he got the general idea. She was terrified of his mother and was saying sorry. His mother frowned and tapped her stick on the ground, the signal for all the girls to line up. She opened her mouth to speak, but before a word came out he tapped her, to get her attention.

"She's not late." he almost smiled at how clearly he had enunciated his speech. His mother gave him a look, he just tilted his head and looked back, the 'conversation' went on in this way. Non- verbally Madame respected his desire to not sign in public, so they just talked this way. Neal was not completely deaf, but he was Deaf. He preferred to sign but not in public.

The silent conversation of looks with his mother resulted in his minor victory. The blue eyed girl was mostly forgiven,

"Eliza. Though I appreciate punctuality, please try to be early." Neal turned to the blue eyed girl and smiled, wiggling his eyebrows. Due to his reluctance to talk, he had to be able to communicate through looks, this smile said 'your welcome! hi!' . She hit her stick one more time onto the ground. "Now. Everyone. This is my son, his name is Neal and he will be preforming in our next recital. " Neal picked up his violin to be clear what he would be doing, the loose pants he was wearing his his twisted lame legs, he was madame's child, they needed to know he wouldn't be dancing.

"Y-yes, Madame," said Eliza. "S-sorry, M-Madame."

Eliza took her position next Evelyn. She did notice the smile and eyebrow wiggle Neal gave. She blushed slightly and looked down. Evelyn must have noticed too, as she turned to Eliza and gave her a grin. Eliza gave her a look. Evelyn grinned and turned forward.

Eliza had heard that Madame Le Foi had a son, most people did. She had never seen him before, though. Upon seeing him for the first time, she thought he was quite handsome.

(I am SO sorry for taking so long!)
