Jon
Soldier of Fortune
Thanks for taking interest in our roleplay!
velleity
and I worked really hard on it. To explain things simply, this is a small group roleplay that will focus on participants working in pairs. Without spoiling too much of the plot, the roleplay will take place a few hundred years after the queen and her children have been sealed by the hero king. Because of the actions of the current Prince, the Demon Queen and her children will be released, though they will have lost the majority of their power over the many years they spent sealed away. In order to restore all that they have lost the Queen will use her power and children to influence the Prince and his knights to restore their power and take back her throne. Over-confident and thrill-seeking, the Prince will believe the Queen can bolster his knights and make use of her children and their powers to protect the realm.

KNIGHTS
The officers of the realm and protectors of the royal family, Knights are a noble class appointed by the lords of their respective lands and approved by the King. They are loved and admired by most who meet them, and some even consider them to be angels sent from the gods to make up for past transgressions. The process of becoming a knight differs with each country; the rural Athal selects their strongest and kindest farmers, while the city-sodden Taskana prefers academy-tested candidates. Romance, land, and riches are forbidden to all Knights while they serve to keep their minds pure and far from greed. Death or exile await any who choose to abandon their duties, while aid and wealth support a proper Knight’s country. Guardian as well as a diplomat, a Knight must protect his or her country from wrongdoers as well as taxes and bad trades. These peaceful times, however, have left many Knights rather bored with only the occasional petty thief to apprehend or lost child to find. Many long for the thrill of adventure and the glory of a battle won. The young Prince spends much of his time with the Empire's knights and relies upon them heavily after his parent's death. He considers them brothers and under the guidance of the Demon Queen, he assigns them each a demon to aid them in their duties.
DEMONS
Ambitious and cunning, Demons are willing to take any measure to achieve their goals, no matter how cruel or vicious. It is for this reason, as well as the legend behind their birth, that they are seen as evil incarnate in minds of humans, despite the fact that such a horrid character is not always the case. Demons appear human to an untrained eye (and in this time of peace, all eyes are so ignorant), though a strange, uneasy feeling accompanies the air around them. Should a demon lose control of his or her emotions, a monstrous beast breaks through their human façade. They are creatures talented in combat, but far more skilled in the area of dark magic; they may create sensory illusions, conjure the dead, cast curses, control shadows, and even share their power and mind with a chosen individual. Demons once walked the lands in vast numbers, but their kind have been hunted to near extinction since the time of the Soul Seal. The Queen and her children are severely weakened to the point where they are more human than demon. It is unknown why they truly lost so much while being locked away but their skills in dark magic have no faded. Each one of the children appears to possess a unique trait to bolster the knight they are assigned to. They also appear to gain strength from sins and atrocities as they spread fear and darkness in the realm. This is open to interpretation
SCHOLARS
In the days of the war, magic was a rare thing, and rarer still were people who studied and cultivated the art of it. Those who did became the Hero’s magicians. In the beginning, they were merely occasional advisors consulted during before battle, but their role in the kingdom grew to almost equal that of the King’s. No longer were they mere magic users, but tutors and advisors and strategists as well. In the current age, advancing technology and a greater population than the Empire had ever known, they became known as Scholars. Today, Scholars are tenacious learners of more than just magic and are just as responsible for the current peacetime as all the kings before them. They are admired just as much, if not more so, than their chivalrous counterparts, though they are not so well known for an angelic quality. The Prince keeps a Royal Advisor close at all times.
SETTING
The Voston Empire is the world’s greatest continent and home to several different countries that span across long fields, hills and mountains, parched deserts, seaports, and everything in between. Humans reign the world and demons are all but extinct. Legends say that great dragons soared the skies during the times of war, that sirens called to sailors long lost at sea, even that angels remain in the world as watchful guardians of the Fallen children. However, the times have long changed as legends are lost in the new era of machines and gunpowder. One could be a master scout and search their whole lives without finding more than a whisper of the existence of magical beasts.
MAGIC
Magic consists of six paradigms: Alchemy, Conjuration, Elemental, Enchanting, Illusion, Restoration. Other forms include Dark magic and Life magic, though both are highly taboo. None but demons and the most wicked of humans can utilize the darkness to their advantage, while Life magic often requires the use of blood or living sacrifices. Magic is a gift free for all to learn, but only those with a strong affinity for it, such as most Scholars, can wield anything more than the basic spells.
