Name: Luciano Barbosa
Country of Origin: The Galleria Countship
Gender: Male
Age: 19; 4th of Cratagust (Illiosae)
Hair: Black
Eyes: Copper
Eyes: Copper
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 120 lbs
Weight: 120 lbs
Distinguishing Traits: He’s rather lithe, though while fit, his body has been built for dancing, and his power lies in mobility rather than actual strength. He also has beautiful posture, partially from dance, partially because he holds his head high to look down on everyone else, and partially because he feels he’s short and is trying to compensate. Bears distinct eyebags.
Romance and Partners?: He’s completely avoidant and hopes that if he stalls around long enough he can secure victory at Cendrillion or perhaps even the Dance Heritage Competition with Klaus (something he doubts he could do with any other bumbling idiot weighing him down). Then after he’s gained his fame, if his parents are still adamant about the whole “inherit the throne and produce an heir” baloney, they will just pick someone for him so he doesn’t have to. If he ever took his head out of his arse he might realize that marriage involves more than just finding someone who will provide victory on the dance floor and political advantages. It involves things like getting along with others. Things like being kind and sympathetic. Things he does not ever exercise or have any interest in showing. Alas, prince trashbag, a lover you are not.
Position on the Rebellion?: Honestly doesn’t care. He’s heard something about how he should care because Varevia could get sacked, or the economy could fail, or something-something-blah-blah-blah, but he could not possibly care less about whatever political tomfoolery is going on in the country when he has a ball to win and a reputation to save.
Personality: He thinks much of his own talent and little of others’. Despite this he keeps his opinions to himself. If you ask for his thoughts, however, he will be hardly be afraid to tell you. Due to the high pressure of his family to outperform, he lives under the assumption that people are somehow lesser than him through lack of talent or morals. Klaus seems to be an exception due to their years of partnership, as Luciano views him as someone genuine and trustworthy and often stands up for him when he cannot do so for himself. Unlike some Gallerian youth born into high status who despise dancing because they are often forced into it, Luciano has always genuinely enjoyed the art. He lives to be respected, especially for his craft, and has essentially spent his entire life completely absorbed in it. His parents admired his dedication as a child but grew increasingly impatient with the fact that he has hardly taken to their expectations of him as a future leader of the state. His complete disinterest in such matters shows absolutely no sign of improving, but he hopes that his success in dance can keep them off his case long enough for one of his siblings to snatch the responsibility.
Biography: The affluent Barbosa family had great influence among the people in the area of modern-day Varevia for generations. With the formation of the Dukedom of Galleria in 667, they were officially established as another great political power of Roserasia. Now a part of the court, they were required to participate in the formal rituals of dance, and did so with all the diligence and confidence that they did everything else. Due to their small size and the strong importance they place on themselves and their people, they tend to stay out of international matters and focus on ensuring that the bit of land they do have is run in tip-top order. They have produced many of Roserasia’s most prominent dancers through the standards to which they have always upheld themselves, and so they uphold their children to the same.
When he was very young Luciano was the only son, and thus the attention of the castle was focused largely on him. His dance lessons began before he could walk and were at the forefront of his schooling. At the age of 6 when his siblings Maria and Franklin were born, it was clear they did not feel the same, never showing any promise in the art as their brother had, thus their practices became much less frequent. In accordance with Gallerian tradition, lessons were relentless and brutal throughout Luciano's entire life, especially as the eldest royal son. It was not uncommon to spend days without break or practice through any injury, even using the pain as punishment and motivation. Despite this, or perhaps even because of it, he absolutely adored dancing, and it has always been his main goal in life to excel at it.
By the time his siblings were old enough to determine with certainty that they were not as gifted, it became a priority to establish Luciano as a prominent dancer, requiring his parents to find him a suitable partner. Klaus Diefenbach, descendant of the former royal family of Rameria, showed promise in the art, and was chosen to be Luciano’s pupil. The Diefenbachs were popular enough with the people to be respectable, and as the Barbosas were keen to find a path to reestablish their position within the court, the arrangement worked out on both ends. Despite the boys' opposing personalities they worked surprisingly well together, and Luciano found Klaus’s ability to listen to his teachings refreshing.

However, these days both of their parents consider it a task well past due for them to find wives to bear them heirs. As the eldest child and most promising dancer, this responsibility falls squarely on Luciano’s shoulders. Still, the viscount is rampantly avoiding this due to his deep-set hatred of fraternizing with idiots, dancing with amateurs, and the prospect of future disgusting, snot-nosed, bratty children. His parents saw a chance to slip him into a potential match with a young lady from a well-to-do family last year at the Cendrillion Ball, but Luciano’s prolonged lack of experience dancing with a different and more inexperienced partner - combined with his bitterness at having to do so at all - cost them the winning title and drove the poor girl away. His hope now that Klaus is able to attend with him is that they can dance together and “reclaim the title that is rightfully [his]”.

Dance Level: Crushes everyone with his steel-toed pointe shoes. Well, almost everyone. His technique is flawless and he dances with passion, yet he lacks a certain charisma that some of his less experienced peers possess. However, his partner Klaus makes up for this with his handsome allure and free-spirited nature. Nevertheless, even on his own he is a fierce competitor and considered by many to be one of the most talented and promising dancers of his day.
Last Year's Cendrillion Ball: Last year Klaus was unable to attend, so it was arranged that Luciano would partner with the daughter of an influential businessman. She, being a person with a life, did not live up to his rigorous practice schedule, and wished to attend more of the festivities. He, being a person with no life, hated festivities and was a giant bore the entire time. In the end they lost to Prince Lysander, coming in second place. He spent the whole month in misery as he considered her to be “untalented and obnoxious”, and she vowed to never see him again.
Goals: Although his family hopes he will meet and partner with the Euthalian Princess (or any rich noble to bring wealth to the countship), Luciano is entirely incapable of charming anyone even if he wanted to. After last year’s “disaster” where he came in second place, he is determined to dance at the ball and win with Klaus, his willing victim preferred partner.
Extra: Gifted at birth with the world’s shittiest sense of direction, and also can’t swim. He has a cat named Belladonna; an evil, fat, hairy beast who hisses at everyone but Luciano, if only because he feeds her. She often sits at his feet, lurks behind his bed, or sits near the door while he practices, watching him with wide golden eyes. (Sometimes, at dinner, she will sit at his feet and he’ll toss scraps off his plate to her, accounting for her… generous… ness...). She is accompanying him to the ball.
