Jenna was heading off to work. While still being in college, she worked at the campus coffee shop and was a swimming teacher at one of the high schools nearby. Swimming season was over so she got a break from dealing with two jobs. She entered the cafe and went into the backroom going into her locker to get her apron. Today, she felt happier since she got paid for swimming and now it was over. Hopefully the good day could last. She started her normal shift by serving coffee's, lattes, espressos, etc. The whole place smelled like roasting coffee beans and Jenna loved the smell of that. Even though she didn't drink coffee, only tea or espresso's the least.
"Have a good night!" I said, smiling and waving at the lady that was leaving. With a yawn, I looked at my watch. Three and a quarter in the morning. My shift was over for over half an hour now. But with the line I had that night, I couldn`t really just leave them hanging. Those people had homes of their own to return to, no doubt.
I turned and picked a bag from behind me, ready to leave.
"Hey, Henry!" Someone said from behind me as I began to walk away. I turned, seeing my friend and coworker Anthony holding up my bag with a smirk. "You got the wrong bag again, pal. That one`s mine."
"Oh, sorry." I said, smiling and trading the bags with him.
"Are you sure you can handle doing the night`s shift? I mean, you`re all yawning and messing up with our bags all the time..." Anthony commented
"Don`t worry. It shouldn`t be for that long anyways..." I reassured him. It didn`t quite seem to work, I imagined from his expression, but I gave him a smile and left for home. It wasn`t far, so I was soon lying in bed and trying to ignore the noise of my neighbor`s crying child so I could sleep...those poor people, having a baby had to be tough on a person, though I imagined they could still be happy for, well, having a child.
The next morning, I woke up with a yawn. Nomatter, what I did, my biological clock just wouldn`t let me sleep past 9 in the morning. I decided I`d take a few naps later and got out of bed. As quickly as I could, I got dressed and headed down, greeting the doorman and leaving, headed towards the mall. My mother`s birthday was coming up and I wanted to get her something this time around. Maybe some jewelry?
I took a turn towards a nearby coffe shop as I needed something to wake me up. I looked, there was a car coming, so I thought I wouldn`t cross the crossing right away. However, upon a closer look, I noticed a rather peculiar detail: there was a puppy standing in the middle of the crossing. Knowing the car probably couldn`t see it, I ran, almost on impulse, and got in front of it, waving my arms so the car would stop. It was only by an inch that I wasn`t run over along with the puppy.
"What do you think you`re doing, a*sh*le?!" The car driver yelled at me.
"Sorry! Sorry!" I replied, picking up the puppy and running towards the sidewalk by the coffe shop. As I ran, though, the puppy bit me. It was a puppy, so it didn`t exactly hurt, but I was still caught by surprise and tripped, falling on my face. The puppy ran towards into the coffe shop, probably towards the owner, or so I hoped. Since I was going to get an expresso for myself anyway, I got up and got in aswell.
Jenna had been polishing any cups that were left on the stands so they could look good on the stands. She kept polishing until she noticed a puppy coming up to the door. She stopped and smiled, opening the door slightly as she pet the puppy lightly and picked it up. "Oh...!! You're so cute~!" She said in a child-like voice as she held the puppy. "I can't keep you here though..." She frowned. Soon, she saw a man coming up to her. "O-Oh" She noticed that he was pretty handsome. "Uh.. Sir, is this your puppy?" She asked, slightly curious. Boy... if this was his puppy, she'd be happy. Having a cute puppy and being a cute guy wasn't something you'd see everyday.
I got in the café, following the puppy which was picked up by a waitress. She...she actually looked kinda nice. Not knowing why, I found myself smiling slightly. I was about to speak, when she asked me if the puppy was mine.
"No, I`m afraid not. I was actually about to ask you if it was yours, since I`m looking for the owner." I replied.
"That would be me." Someone said. I turned around, seeing a woman standing by the door. She approached me, raising her hand where she was holding a broken leash "Thank you so much, I was so worried! I`ve been looking for him all day!"
"Oh no, don`t worry..." I retorted
"Don´t worry? You were nearly run over, saving him!"
"I`d say I just didn`t look carefully. I was working last night, and I`m still a bit sleepy, so I may have gone into the crossing too soon."
"You saved him, regardless. Here ..." The woman handed a cart to me with a phone number. "If you ever need anything, give me a call, alright?"
I nodded, confused. Part of me was glad and satisfied, another part was just astonished and embarrassed, which led to me just standing there, blushing a bit, as the woman took her puppy and walked out of the coffe shop.
