Looters in an Outbreak

Setting

Whenever a disaster occurs, there will be people who take advantage of it for personal gain. Houses, jewelry stores and gas stations are all abandoned. Everything's ripe for the taking, and there aren't any cops around to tell you otherwise.

Now, this is a zombie scenario where the outbreak is more of a regional problem, rather than a worldwide one. The government is still functional, and so are the authorities. A total breakdown of society is not expected, so you want to go in, steal stuff, and get out before the disaster is resolved. Whether or not it actually is resolved doesn't matter, because the characters think it will be.

So yeah, you're all part of a group of losers that have willingly gone into the heavily affected areas in order to steal shit. Presumably, you all knew each other to some extent. The area will mostly consist of countrysides and suburban towns that have been stricken with the outbreak.

Goal

The goal is to steal as much money and valuables as you can, but you have to make it out alive. At any point in time, your character can bail from the operation and just run away with whatever loot they have. If you bail, it ends the game for you. The value of your loot might as well be your "score". As time goes on, the level of danger increases, and the remaining looters are more likely to get killed if they continue.

Although bailing out ends the game, you only actually LOSE if your character dies. You'll need to bail out eventually, or you're guaranteed to die The guy who bailed out after five minutes is more of a "winner" than the people that stayed forever and ended up getting shot by the national guard. Your money is useless when you're dead.

Mechanics

Mostly simple. I have to type this later, but you can comment anyway.

Hmm... If I invest all my chara-gen points into it, could I have enough magical prowess to have some zombie minions?

Well, I tend to have character creation just be simple. No stats, levels, etc. Your character, by default, is just an Average Joe when it comes to things like strength and speed. Intelligence and charisma can depend on the player and how they make their character.

RP-wise, it would be ideal if the characters were a bunch of stereotypical deadbeats without many redeeming traits, though. Think along the lines of cowardly, selfish, greedy and obnoxious. Not necessarily outright stupid, since reasoning (more OOC than IC) is necessary to play the game.

I'll probably let players start with whatever they think is reasonable to have in terms of equipment, but they may have to bargain with me, or just have their item(s) denied outright. For initial things like guns, they will be provided at random.
