Hey, I’m Ulyee
I tend to write more in the winter, and even more around the holidays, so this is a particularly lovely time for me. But while I love the cold and snow, I tend to shy away from winter holidays. So here are some ideas that match my particular moods this time of year. There will be a heap more to come. Message me with your thoughts, I'm open to any and all ideas, let's dig into something fun.

A Less Than Perfect Winter
Winter in the most remote places in the world is nothing short of shit. A remote weather and research station in Greenland carried a handful of onsite, disgruntled grinches. Being away from family, food, and resupply trucks doesn’t bode well for merriment. Even less helpful was the snow that covered the place, keeping them locked in for the whole of winter. But cheer still tried to shine through, in the form of a few particularly happy workers and comforting presents from the head of staff. But they were in for a long, dark, winter. And happiness has a shorter half life on ice.
The Dead in the Dark of Winter
It's a hard enough time being dead during the rest of the year, but when the holidays come around it's that much more of a sting. So, warding off boredom and loneliness, they set upon a tiny town to haunt. Wanting to spread their ‘cheer’ with those who seemed so unfairly happy. But when they found a lone, living soul that seemed immune to their attempts to ruin their holiday cheer, they were left stumped. Even more so lost when the person seemed to be slowly growing the ability to see, hear, and smile with intent at the ghost.
Hide the Rings, Bring the Candles, Winter is Here
‘It's a sorry soul that enjoys their spouse’s flight.’ When winter comes, bringing all of its annoying cheer, fervent shopping, and family gatherings, a business trip forces one of a pair to depart, leaving the other happy, despite their hatred for the holidays. Free at last they look to the world they once knew. To clubs, drugs, and self indulgence, leaving their ring behind at home. It's these freedoms- the joys they bring- that drive them into a strange sort of unhappiness. For, winter will leave soon enough and take these new found wonders away. Thus they endeavor to burn the candle as bright as can be for the holidays, and hide the ring that was soon to ruin their coming year again.
While another ring, belonging to a one who thought this winter they would become two. A happy, young, ready to be tied soul, found their holiday cheer sapped from them, when rejection followed the offered ring. What once was a joyful, wonderful time of year, now all at once seemed useless. Hiding the rings from sight, they try to regain their cheer, to forget about the lost love. They, much like the first, decided to burn bright in the dark night of winter, not wanting to stop for a moment and think about the coming year- about being alone in it.
But their meeting, on a night particularly dark and snow covered, might give them each a brighter new year. Or at the very least a brighter candle in the winter.
