The Black Snake

He hates humans more than the other gods. He was married to the Tortoise, she was his world. The two of them could control the element of water. When he has full access to his powers, not only can he control water, he can shape ice and even manipulate some aspects of the weather. He is the ruler of the north and winter. When his vessel permits it he can take the shape of a giant, black snake.

The Vermilion Bird

She is often confused for a Fenghuang because when she changes her shape, she looks very similar to the symbol of the Empress. But she loathes when people compare her to the Fenghuang. She is often described as the elegant and noble ruler of the south. It is only fitting that the Queen of Summer can control fire. With her full power she can level nations with her flames and can even absorb fire to heal herself.

The Azure Dragon

A powerful general of the East who can take the shape of a dragon, when his vessel allows it. He is the calmest of the four gods and people have always kind of assumed that he was the leader. Seeing as though he used to be one of the Dragon gods. Not only can he control spring, but he can also control the air. This control can range from the breeze to full-on tornados. But his power is limited like all the others.

The White Tiger

She is a powerful warrior, representing not only the “King” of animals but also power. It pissed her off when humans tried to manipulate her image into that of a man to fit their desires. She can control the Earth and deserves to be represented correctly. Seeing as though she has all of her power, she is capable of splitting cities with earthquakes. She misses that she can’t show off all her power or run around as a giant white tiger without a human's permission.

The North Vessel

(Female) As the North’s vessel, they contain the power of the Black Tortoise, or more accurately the Black Snake. Because they have the water god’s power in them they can do things like breathe underwater. They do not know everything they are capable of, but they have noticed that they are basically immune to feeling cold.

The South Vessel

(Female) Because of the Vermilion Bird’s power, they are protected from all things fire and heat. Though figuring that out comes out with quite the story. It comes in handy because they can’t get burnt. They also have never minded the warmer temperatures and humidity in the summer.

The East Vessel

(Female) They are not sure what to do with their gift. It is hard to explain, but it always seemed like the wind moved around them. Protecting them and keeping them safe. Another gift of theirs they don’t know of is that they have breath just fine in even the most oxygen-low situations.

(Male) They have always felt at home in nature. Because of the power that resides in them, their gift manifests in them being able to heal, both plants and people. No one is quite sure why their gift manifests like that. They also have a way of calming both animals and people.

The Awakened

Spirits who had gone dormant either by inhabiting the soul of the human or pretending to be one, had long since forgotten what they really are. Faded with both time and the rest of the mystical energy of the earthly realm, they had in many ways, become an average human themselves.

However, as the Golden Dragon released the Four Guardian Gods from their divine punishment, so too was their godly energy; A spark which jumpstarted the stalled chi of the Earth, ushering in a new era of gods and myths.

Those spirits who'd survived the demon wars and hid amongst humans, who had become mortals themselves, could feel change in balance. Sparking memories, abilities and forms they'd long forgotten, even if they conflict with their new Human identity. They know who they are.

INTUITIVE

Su-Jin is a very chill individual. You will hardly ever see her truly mad, frustrated sure, but she only has a handful of times where she actually raised her voice at someone. She doesn’t really like getting mad, she feels it clouds her judgment. Su-Jin in general is just happy to go where the winds take her. Pun intended. She doesn’t really live life with a strict schedule, which works well for her. She has found that not having a set path makes it easier to accept the bumps and kinks in the road. Su-Jin has never had a hard time finding solutions to the troubles that pop up unexpectedly and she has tried not to let them weigh her down. It certainly helps that she is not the type to dwell on decisions for a long time. If she knows what she wants, then she is going to go for it. She didn’t like how her family couldn’t choose between ignoring the Azure Dragon or worshiping him, and how this indecisiveness seemed to rule their life. Su-Jin vowed to never let this happen to her. She would not let herself get hung up on the choices in life. And while she may come across as a person who can’t stick to one thing, that is simply not true at all.

When she makes her choice, she puts her best foot forward every step of the way. Or at least she tries to. She knows that not everything is gonna end up perfect, but she loves watching her progress as time goes on. It was why she loved learning to play the guitar and write music. She can look back at what she has done and be proud of how far she has done. It makes her feel good, so she brings the same energy to everything she does. And Su-Jin is pretty confident in herself. She is really happy with where she is right now. She is proud that it was her efforts that made her reality a thing. It may not be a whole lot, but she has come far compared to her home on Jeju island. The east vessel is a total softy when it comes to that kind of stuff. She wants to be able to help others and give them support to also help them improve their lives. Even if someone really hurts Su-Jin, she wants to give people a second chance. This has led to some painful relationships, but at the end of the day, she usually picks herself back up again.

She hates to admit it but she can be a bit naive. She is not completely innocent-minded, but she grew up on an island surrounded by her family her entire life. She is still shaping her views of the world and learning about as ridiculous as it sounds. Su-Jin doesn’t want to be made fun of for letting herself get fooled by people who look nice, so she tends to keep most of her horrible encounters to herself. Is that a worse idea, maybe. She is not the type of person to really cause a fuss anyway. She is not a big fan of fighting, and it doesn’t really help that she is not the best at being able to tell when things are going south. She just kind of does her thing and hopes for the best. She doesn’t have any major life goals right now and she is kind of waiting for something to happen. Though she doesn’t know what she is waiting for. Others like to point out that she is not a person with a lot of drive. And it hurts her a little. Because it makes her feel like she needs to make strides toward something. And she is not. It certainly doesn’t help that sometimes Su-Jin’s focus is easily snatched by things. Whether it is by a new idea or something around her. Not a great combination, but she is trying.

Childhood.

Su-Jin does not have many memories of her mom and dad actually raising her. Not because they were dead or abandoned her. It was just that her mom was still a teenager when she had Su-Jin. Her mom was a fresh-faced nineteen-year-old who got pregnant because of a tourist fling. Because of her young age, she was not ready to raise a kid. But she also didn’t want to get rid of Su-Jin. Luckily her family was really supportive of her. There were no plans to have another family member adopt the baby, but there was a silent agreement that Su-Jin would be the family's kid. Su-Jin’s mother alone didn’t raise her, it was a combination of everyone she lived within their little home/shrine on the island. And while it was confusing to outsiders, Su-Jin didn’t really mind at all.

Teenage years.

It was in her teenage years that she became more involved in the shrine. She had at that point had memorized all the tales they had to tell about the Azure Dragon they worshiped. It was also then that they revealed that she may be the gods' next vessel. Which threw her in for quite the loop. She has no idea why her family was saying this kind of stuff. She couldn’t turn to her mom for advice because she had moved away with her new husband, Su-Jin chose to stay because everything she knew was on Jeju Island. And while it was her home, she did not know how she suddenly felt to be flooded with all this vessel business. Su-Jin was looking for a way to escape the madness, and it came to her in the form of her aunt. It was not an aunt she had seen often, but when she promised to help Su-Jin get away from the Azure Dragon shrine if Su-Jin could gather the funds. It was like a dream come true. Su-Jin did whatever work she could to make the money to finally forge a life of her own.

Adulthood.

At first, it was hard getting used to leaving a life away from her family. But eventually, she found the friends she has now and the guitar. Learning to play the guitar helped distract her whenever she missed her family or thought about moving back home. Su-Jin doesn’t regret moving away from the shrine and has worked to get her little apartment. She no longer looks to her aunt for help because she has a pretty stable income with her music lessons and helping her friends when they need a model for something. Su-Jin generally is now just trying to find something new to do in life.

  Gun-Bi is an incredibly kind and thoughtful Goddess, she feels strongly for others despite her lack of social awareness. Always hoping for the best and unabashedly cheering on those around her. She always steps up to help those in need when the situation arrives. This behavior can sometimes be quite conflicting as Gun-Bi will not hesitate to aid her enemies even in the midst of battle. She fights valiantly for whichever side of the conflict she is aligned with for whatever reason, but it is otherwise neutral; likening herself to a combat medic. She stands firm and will never hesitate to take action with her powerful convictions; she never lacks courage even in the face of the unfathomable.
  
  Still the betrayal of both the Humans she fought to protect and the Gods she fought beside deeply affected Gun-Bi. A clash of inner turmoil that seemed never-ending; and yet for Gun-Bi the guilt, the spite, the pain, and grief caused by the actions she was forced to take were eventually turned into that of inner peace as she meditated stoutly after being fully sealed. She came to believe the other gods would welcome her back into the heavens and once again head her mansions; Gun-Bi also came to understand that Humans were creatures with infinite potential for both good and evil.   Gun-Bi often stayed in the heavens where she would spend her time preparing the transition from summer to winter alongside the Black Tortoise and the Yellow Dragon. She only ever came down to visit the Earth to accept the offerings of those who worshiped her with hearts of true virtue; or in times of war, giving her allegiance and aid to the Kings and Emperors who were pure of heart.

  Gu-Bi fought with an unwitnessed ferocity, commanding massive armies of humans and lesser gods alike. Stories of her heroics were told through the ages, of how the demons would turn and flee when seeing her brilliant white fur as the animals of the land would cry out "The King in White! Behold her beauty, bow to her mercy! Our King has returned! Our King has returned! Demons run when a Good King goes to war!" Unlike the humans who were creatures of balance, Demons did not receive any aid or consideration except for the few who pleaded fealty to the Heavens and sought true balance.
  
  However, because of human's ever-shifting balance in the cosmos, there were many who aligned with the Demons just as there were those who aligned themselves with the Gods. They sought the destruction of the world's balance, of the heavens. They lead many to their death, by her own hand. Too late did Gun-Bi realize she was being used as a tool for destruction and that the humans who betrayed them were themselves being used by the demons. When the Black Tortoise was killed the White Tiger was thrown into a vicious rage; the loss of her best friend, of her elder Yin. It was all too much and she snapped. The King in White roared loud enough to crack mountains, the pain and anger she felt reverberating through the earth many times over. The soldiers wealthy and unlucky enough to afford metal armor in her immediate presence found themselves crushed into a rancid paste. All the animals stopped their singing, channeling their King's emotions, and became savage beasts alongside her, tearing into any human soldier they came across.

  After her rampage had ended and she was eventually subdued by the Yellow Dragon, sealed with that of a pure-hearted human Gun-Bi began to finally calm down and searched for her own inner peace. She was the least comfortable of the four Auspicious Beasts with what they had planned to do, and had done; though it hurt her just as much to be such an unruly danger to the balance she sought to protect that the Gods she saw as her closest friends decided that she needed to be contained and controlled.
  
  Gun-Bi still never gave up on helping those she was bound to protect though it seemed they were needed less and less. Only ever being released for smaller trivial matters as the other Gods finished off the last legions of the Demon armies on earth. When the humans found peace and Emperors became commoners, she was called on less and less. Until fully sealed away along the other Four Guardians to prevent them from breaking their seals and enacting revenge upon the Earth and Heavens. Gun-Bi sat beside herself for hundreds of years, meditating while the world moved on and her vessels continued their worship though dwindling as well. As the heavens lost their direct connections to the Earth over time, Gun-Bi was devising a plan to make amends. Inspired by the adventures of Sun Wukong whom she'd used to listen to go on about his rise to Heaven in his Journey to the West, the White Tiger decided to make her own journey west if she were ever freed.     Gun-Bi misses the Black Tortoise (Eun-Ha) dearly; the two had been very close since the beginning of the universe and the creation of Earth. The Tortoise was an Elder Yin whom Gun-Bi looked up to as a mentor.     Jimin at first glance seems like your typical delinquent. Unabashedly blunt and crude, with a mouth that fit for a sailor. She's often rather quiet when she doesn't have to speak to anyone for any reason and generally keeps to herself. Some would assume she's quietly people watching which is true on occasion but usually she elects to simply block everything and everyone out if they don't concern her.
    
    Despite that, she is a rather kind and caring person, but she's not always very good at showing it. She takes a lot of pride in herself and doesn't back down from anything, even if it gets her in trouble. Her anger and anxiousness take the forefront of her mind despite hating feeling that way, so she 'tries' her best not to feel anything at all. Jimin's cold exterior is difficult to crack to anyone who's not a cat; if someone manages to gain her hard to earn trust, the bond is guaranteed to be strong and Jimin will open up.
    
    Passionate and stubborn, there's very little to stop Jimin once she's set her mind on something; no matter what she had to do to get it.

    Jimin was born on the hottest day in a century in her small remote town. Her mother was left rather ill after giving birth to her second daughter. The difficult labour and the swealtering heat had left Jimin's mother relatively weak. The child herself was perfectly fine and healthy however.
    
    Jimin's father was often too drunk to properly care for his family, leaving it to her older siblings to take care if her while their mother could barely manage walking beyond their small property on the worst days. Jimin herself seems rather oblivious to the hardships everyone had around her and they were more than happy to put on a smile for her to protect the young girl's apparent innocent view on life. In truth however Jimin was fully aware, she simply tried her best to smile back so they wouldn't have to worry about her on top of everything that went on.
    
    

    teenage years

    By the time she was fifteen it had been two years since her mother passed despite the woman's deceptively improving condition. Her father was barely around anymore, and though he'd been trying to sober up since his wife died the man hadn't been the same, she suspected he was hooking up with her homeschool tutor who whom he unofficially moved in with; until tutor lesson's stopped after a pregenancy scare and her father sunk back into alchoholism.
    
    Jimin started going to public school but was finding it hard to fit in, often turning to her big brother for help who could only do so much while away at law school. Eventually, her older sister left for college as well, accepted into the prestigious Ewha Woman's University with a scholarship to study psychology. When her brother found out, he immediately came back after his graduation and the two older siblings started fighting for the entire week he was there. Jimin wasn't surprised and did her best to mediate or stay out of it, most of it was over her; now seventeen years old, and their inability to take care of her anymore while they moved on with their lives, something they'd argued about many times before. Though she was surprised when the topic turned to how she'd stopped praying to the Vermilion Bird. Their mother was devout to the Goddess, and at one point they all would pray and give their offerings regularly but after her passing, it was just Jimin and her sister. As they grew distant from each other and Jimin became closer with her older brother despite him living across the country, she gave up on believing too. Leaving the middle child to carry on their ancestral tradition alone, but that was the last she heard of the subject from either of them.
    
    Her brother couldn't stay, however, flying back to Seoul to start his budding career at the prominent law firm. He promised to come back after the summer to take her back to Seoul with him.
    
    Things at school weren't too bad academically. Jimin was exceptionally bright just like her siblings before her, but socially it was a nightmare and often much worse than home where she at least had some semblance of privacy. At home, she could spend time with the local wild cats in relative peace; at school, there wasn't much she could do but try to endure. There was one boy, however, who was a lot nicer than most of the other kids and while he hung out with the bully crowd he'd stand in her defense surprisingly. She grew really attached to him and had wanted to confess her feelings for a long time, but that one last summer everything went up in flames.
    
    One hot sweltering summer day she had once again reluctantly agreed to hang out with the crowd of delinquents despite having tried to keep her distance for some time. Jimin wanted to finally tell her crush that she liked him before she moved away to the big city. The group often hiked around the mountains and forests looking for abandoned buildings, something she actually liked to do, often revisiting on by herself to explore in tranquility; this time it was a pretty big find, a large old wooden mansion hidden behind a big hill. Jimin and her crush were sent in by themselves to check it out, a customary hazing they did often, sending in one or two into a new building alone to make sure it was safe. For Jimin, it was her one chance, but before she could get around to it they smelled smoke and ran out of the building to the sickening glee of the crowd of bullies; they had set the building ablaze as a 'joke' but the small fire had rapidly evolved into an all-consuming inferno. The sadistic leader of the group glared at Jimin and explained that he had trapped one of the stay neighborhood cats in the burning building. The girl didn't think twice before she dashed back in, her crush was shocked and looked ready to go toe to toe with the rest of his 'friends' but looking back at the blaze with no sight of Jimin, he cursed and ran in after her.
    
    When the dust settled and the last embers were extinguished by the afternoon storm there was nothing left but Jimin.
    Terrified and alone.

    Jimin lives mostly alone in her brothers high rise apartment with a few cats she's rescued off the streets. Her older brother visits on occasion between cases from across the peninsula but it often just her. She volunteers at Seoul Fire Services quite often, mostly just to keep her occupied. Though of course, after the incident back in her home town Jimin learned of her immunity to heat and fire; she makes a good living as a freelance interogator, debt collector, and extortionist for hire. She never takes jobs that involve harming people she consideres 'good' by her own intuition and investigation, otherwise, she has a perfect record. Handcuffing herself to the target and holding both their hands over a hot plate or open flame, locking herself with them in a sauna until they give the information, and more.

    Jae-Won is Jimin's older brother and the two are rather close despite Jae-Won being busy with her job as a high profile lawyer. He does what he can to take care of her and often leaves presents and hidden clues around the apartment for her before he leaves, a way to interact and connect with her even if he's not around for very long.
    
    KYU-RI Unnie
    Kyu-Ri and Jimin have a rather strained relationship. They were close when they were young but drifted apart as they got older. Jimin tends to ignore Kyu-Ri who continues to try and reach out to their little sister and feels uncomfortable talking to her. While Kyu-Ri realized she had neglected her younger sister in her pursuit to get her education and certification for being a therapist and desperately wants to reconnect but doesn't know-how, and Jae-Won is often too busy to be much help. She knows that she tends to butt heads with her older and younger siblings but tries anyway; Hoping to get through eventually.

  Nari grew up in a small village by the sea. Her parents had trouble conceiving in the past and they were worried they would never have a child of their own, so when Nari was born they believed it was a blessing from the Gods.
  
  From the moment she came into this world, her parents had her whole life planned out. They wanted her to grow up to be a wife and have children; they said it was her duty to the Gods for allowing her to be born. But even at a young age Nari knew that this wasn't what she wanted to do with her life.
  
  As a child Nari recognized that the ocean called to her in ways that she couldn't begin to understand. One day Nari and some other children snuck onto a boat and rowed it out to sea. The day had been bright and sunny, but on the ocean storms can be upon you before you are even aware of it.
  
  The air turned cold, though Nari didn't notice until one of the other children complained about the sudden bite to the air. Worried eyes turned to the quickly darkening sky and the children began their journey back to shore.
  
  But such a small craft could not withstand the might of the ocean. The boat over-turned, dumping the children into the cold, dark abyss. Nari later washed up onto the shore of her village, the only survivor from their adventure out to open sea. This reaffirmed her parents beliefs that she was blessed by the Gods and they became even stricter with what she could and could not do.
  
  Distraught by what happened and unable to find comfort and solace with her parents, Nari turned to drawing and painting. The white canvas accepted all of her pain and emotions with open arms. She knew her parents would disapprove and tried to hide her artwork from them over the years.
  
  But they eventually discovered her secret. They were furious she had went behind their backs as she did and in their rage they destroyed all of her artwork right in front of her eyes.
  
  Nari was sent to Seoul to a private academy with her parents hopes that she would learn to accept the path they have paved for her. But sending her away from them was their worst mistake.

Eunsoo is often driven by his high ideals and a deep desire to be compassionate to the people that he loves. He is a natural empath, an inspiring and encouraging individual who loves his friends and family wholeheartedly. He reciprocates loyalty, displaying acts of kindness even to those that doubt his character.

With the way he presents himself, first impressions tend to dictate that people see him as cold or indifferent. He tries his best to negate these stereotypes; although, his kindness is rarely extended to people who are cruel to anyone besides himself.

As a flawed introvert, Eunsoo finds himself at home in his own mind. Although he has never given anyone doubt about his emotions, his signs of affection are guarded and secretive even to those close to him. Physical touch is something he craves; but, he's too shy to ask anyone to fulfill that side of his love language.

Eunsoo Choi was born as the first son in a long lineage of female-born heirs. For generations, the vessel had inhabited women and the divine feminine energy that stemmed from the white tiger. When Eunsoo was born, he was considered a blessing. His family line was even more static after discovering he was the one to have been assigned to be the vessel of this generation. Their place of residence was a sprawling estate in the countryside that focused on the essence of preserving the white tiger shrine. His youth was spent frolicking through the estate gardens, learning how to care for the creatures on their land and to give praise to their god.

While his family would gather in the mornings, he would watch with wide eyes as they gave praise and offerings in the shrine. The devotion he saw was exhausting -- seeing how fervently the older generation prayed, completely engulfed even as the sun came up and the morning hours passed. Their compulsive rituals made him wary; and although he couldn't voice it, a little fearful of the role he played. The only person he could turn to about his lack of enthusiasm was his cousin, Moonsik. The other boy was uninterested in the conditions their family came with.

Praising and worshipping were beneath him, his cousin would tease him, whenever they had already found the next vessel anyway.

Eunsoo was a very sheltered child. He was homeschooled and the only companions he had were the other family members around his age. It wasn't until he was in high school that he was given permission to attend in person. It was easy to see the scrutiny he would be under. His family was well-known in their hometown for their isolation and how odd their children were. When Eunsoo first began school, the bullying wasn't bad. His accent was made fun of, his clothes were judged for being too stiff, and his vocabulary was mocked for being too formal.

His cousin, Moonsik, and his half-sister, Siyun, were valiant defenders. They were both popular due to their wealth and status amongst the students and they would attempt to defend him. However, they were unable to shield him completely. The most rampant student was one of the boys on the soccer team who grew physically violent. It was a strange situation -- to be revered amongst his family and look into the eyes of someone who held so much disdain for him.

The first bruise was noticed by his mother. Her questioning had been brushed aside. Two weeks later, a bruised cheek. Another week later, it was a busted lip and a bruised eye. His father had sat him down and told him to just give him a name. Any name and the situation would be dealt with. So, he confessed to his father who the perpetrator of his after-school torment was. It was two days later, as he was walking into school, that he caught sight of his bully. He wore the same bruised as Eunsoo -- and even more than he had received. The boy had given him a hateful look -- a begrudging, defeated sort of look -- and that had been that. Eunsoo was never bullied in his high school by anyone again.

  a rather calm and collected god, junho is not one who tends to act out irrationally. emotions are something he tries to keep into check since he believes always acting upon them leads to disaster. he is a planner, a strategist, and that was what often made him successful in the battlefield. he needs to know every piece of information he can get and listen from every perspective before he can make a proper decision for a plan of action. that being said, this does not mean he never lashes out when emotions are running too high, which was the case with the death of the black tortoise. the wrath of the azure dragon is not one to be trifled with.
  
  despite his immense power, junho is one of the more approachable gods. when relationships between humans and the gods were amicable, he would often visit the humans and help them in any way he can, whether it was for a battle, dispute, etc. after the death of the black tortoise, he became distrustful and developed a form of bitterness towards them. not only did he feel betrayed by what they did, but he felt that his efforts as well as the other gods' to help the humans was all in vain. with time this bitterness has died down a bit as he got to know his vessels, showing him that there was still good among humans. he does still view them with slight disdain and will scoff at their mortality. but eventually he does grow to care for his vessels and will do what he can to protect them, even beyond the fact that in doing so he is protecting himself.

Iseul is a light-hearted man who is often regarded as possessing a heart of gold. Despite the title he carries, he is anything but conceited. He's a genuinely nice guy who enjoys the life he's been given; a product of love that inspired a god to grant him favor. The people in his life have always been devoted to him and made sure he was taken care of. Within the present, he tries his best to give that energy back to the universe.

Not one to take things too personally, Iseul is comfortable putting himself out there and risking rejection if it means potentially connecting with others. If he has an idea or wants to go on an adventure, he'll invite others along for the ride. If they say they're uninterested, he'll still extend the offer for next time because maybe they'll change their mind. Sometimes he can be pushy in his insistence on including others; but, there's no ill intent behind his invitations.

In social interactions, he's more of a listener and is fully engaged in uncovering the character of other people. He communicates more in group social settings and has a dry, almost-teasing sense of humor. He prefers to turn the conversation toward whatever the other person wants to talk about, not interested in divulging too much about himself with those he's not close with. THE MOON RABBIT.

The legend of the moon rabbit is a striking one. It is said there once was a village where there lived a rabbit, a fox, and a monkey who often played together. One day, the Great Emperor in the Heavens decided to test the animals’ loyalty to him. He came down from the sky disguised as a beggar and asked the animals each to bring him something to eat. The three generous animals instantly set out to honor the poor man’s request. The fox returned to the beggar with a fish; likewise, the monkey with some fruit. The rabbit, being a small and more limited animal, unfortunately, was only able to bring back the grass he could gather. Ashamed at his feeble offering, the rabbit, in an act of self-sacrifice, proceeded to ignite the grass he’d gathered and threw himself into the flames to be eaten by the beggar as a meal. The action of the rabbit so touched the beggar/emperor that he placed the rabbit on the moon to become its guardian and surrounded him with smoke as a reminder to all of the rabbit’s noble death. Thus was born the Legend of the Moon Rabbit to be told for centuries to come.

Iseul Won was a naive spirit who found himself cast outside of his domain right after the war.

Iseul's friend. Although Eunsoo isn't aware of his origins, the pair have been close since after the mortal man finished high school. Iseul has always served as a semi-guardian to the Choi family and whatever relative serves as the White Tiger's vessel. However, he doesn't see his role as unfriendly; quite the opposite. He would honestly go to the ends of the Earth to ensure Eunsoo is content for the rest of his life.

  The Beginning

  Hyori was born in Shanghai China as a middle child in a family of seven. She had two older sisters and two younger, and for most of her early life she spent her time playing with them as their family was incredibly close. Though at some point she left with her mother to Korea, while the other girls stayed in China. She didn't learn until later that two of the remaining four had gone to Japan. The family was split with almost no explanation, and things were only just beginning.
  
  

  The Middle

  In Korea Hyori felt rather lonely without her sisters to bug and annoy her... Or play with and hangout. She didn't have any friends and the language was hard and it was overwhelming. After another long day at school she had snapped for the first time while arguing with her mother, lashing out in anger with her unusually sharp nails, leaving a deep claw like gash on her mother's face.
  
  Even though the wound faded mostly and her Mother had long since forgiven her daughter, Hyori had never been able to shake the look of terror in her Mother's eyes. The feeling of blood under her fingernails. It was all too much for the girl to handle, so she started avoiding being at home whenever possible. She started taking part in tons of afterschool clubs and activities. Archery, baseball, basketball, tennis, just to name a few. Sports was something she'd always excelled and at some point one of her friends had told her that she'd make a great idol. Hyori's friend wasn't wrong, not only was she athletic, but she was also extremely attractive, at least it seemed so. Boys were drooling over her up and down the school halls the moment she'd hit puberty. Turning down confessions of love had become an almost weekly occurrence, eventually even that was overwhelming. So she took her friend's suggestion seriously and decided to join a Idol trainee program, partly just to get away from both home and school.

Yoora was once a positive creature who allowed grace to inspire her influence. Before the war, she was not guided by her powers. Most expected a woman defined by her nature; a turbulent, destructive monster who scorched any being in her path. But, she was the exact opposite. She loved the Earth; the flawed nature of mortals, and the brief lifetimes of animals old and new. What a time it was to exist -- to kindle fires, to help the sun pass over the Earth and foster life with each new dawn. Perhaps she was a little naive before the war. The devastation of it inspired a change in her attitude. It made her feel vulnerable to experience the anger the other gods possessed toward the demons. She was expected to feel the same derision -- but, for a being so afraid of her nature, she couldn't allow it.

When the elders decided to lock the four elements away, Yoora was unprepared for the isolation. A flawed, jagged sense of bitterness has filled her throughout the years she has been locked away. Her ability to destroy was harnessed during the war. Yet, the set of despair that came along with the war had not filled her before now.

Where once a naive being stood, a fearsome god now sits upon her throne. Fierce, reckless, destructive -- the descriptors of a flame that all resemble the goddess that wields these same talents. Her heart is closed-off to most things and her goodwill is not as lenient as it once was. She refuses to let people see her as weak; but, her emotions are unregulated and hard to restrain. The same can now be said about her temper. Rage has become a welcomed ally during her time away from the Earth and she is not one to shy away from displaying her powers upon any who burden her.

THE VERMILLION BIRD.

As a god, one bears witness to the rising and falling of nations. Mortals exist, cultures come and go, and generations are born and then die. Yoora was a revered god; some legends would describe her as lifting the sun into the sky within her original form before she would circle the Earth to lower the sun into the hands of the moon rabbit. It was an unending cycle. Each morning, she would watch the people as she crossed through the skies. She'd re-kindle fires in the winter to keep mortals warm and keep the sky bright in the warmer months to allow more time for people to bask in the warmth of the summer season. An unending dance that stemmed from responsibility and her hidden fondness for the life she watched bloom under her guide.

However, like time will always do, it brought change. The war was imminent -- and amidst the advice of her fellow gods, she used her fire to bring destruction upon their enemies. Bloodshed became common; and each morning as she would bring the sun around the earth, she would bear witness to the ravaged plains she had once devoted her protection to. Mortals, entire generations she had watched develop throughout her endless loop, would be burnt outside their homes. Fire, her fire and others was non-discriminating in its brutality.

The demon conflict brought suffering not only to the mortals; but, to the gods as well. Loss became a heavy burden to Yoora. The worst had yet to come, it seemed. The loss of the Black Tortoise was felt amongst each god, small or well-renowned. That death felt like a turning point; a bitter loss that fueled the grief and rage of each of them. Destruction at that time grew exponentially and most lost themselves to violence. Yoora held herself back; she couldn't conceive of unleashing her full power even with the whirlwind of grief that filled her and her fellow gods.

Her binding to a human only softened her weak-willed resolve. When the war finally began to come to a close, Yoora was grateful. However, the decision that was made to seal away the gods had struck a deep form of fear within her. She had spent so many years running from herself that to be stuck with nothing but her own company frightened her. The other gods managed to seal her away and even though she had once thought carrying the sun was important, that too was stolen from her. She felt time changing, could feel the heat of the Earth and the flicker of flame beneath her fingertips. It all felt like a bad dream; to feel fragments of herself slipping away from her control. Years went by and the god began to grow jaded. Her once-positive disposition faded alongside her goodwill.

Bitterness became her companion throughout her containment. Even the devotion from mortals she had once cherished did nothing for her now. It wasn't like she could recognize it now; there are so few people who recognize her divinity in this century. Her wish to escape this imprisonment is very much present in her life. She misses the sun, the smell of jasmine during the warm season, the steady pulse of her heart as she flies around the Earth with the wind whipping through her feathers. She wishes to return to what she once was; a free spirit not jaded by her peers and the violence of a war that overshadowed her once-kind disposition.

Shia Gwan was barely two weeks old when she was left on the doorsteps of a shrine just outside Seoul. The old couple who lived there decided to take her in despite not having much to provide. As she grew older, so did her new 'grand parents' and Shia began to take on more responsibility at home. Her guardians were more than caring, and taught her many things about the ancient gods and mythologies from a time long past. She loved those stories more than anything, and would often fantasize about them often despite being chastised in school for day dreaming all the time.

Shia was bullied and taken advantage of constantly; but the girl always smiled and bared through it anyway. She didn't want to hurt anyone, not really. Shia had dark thoughts that would build up, a desire for revenge but those were pushed down and buried under a litany of fake smiles and unnecessary apology. It was all worth it too, as she eventually started to believe she was happy.

Shia for lack of words was a spineless wimp. The young Woman didn't have much direction in life after her grandparents passed. She took care of the Shrine and attended a local community college, and while she was bright the scholarships that she certainly qualified for were always full before her application was even considered half the time. Eventually she had given up on higher college education, not even knowing what she wanted to really do. While at the same time, less and less people came to the Shrine, leaving the girl all alone.

Cracks started to appear in the shell she had hid herself under for so long. Shia closed the shrine to the public, not like it really mattered and managed to get an apartment in the city with her then boyfriend before he kicked her out a week later without much explanation. It was in the middle of a very harsh Winter and the now homeless girl was sure she was going to freeze to death, at least until a very expensive looking car pulled up. The man in the back claiming to be the CEO of some massive tech company that had hands in every industry in Korea. He had gotten her an apartment of her own and even paid off the first three months of rent; but only on the condition that Shia were to work as a secretary at Black Aurora Industries HQ under him at a secretary. A position that would pay enough for the apartment and her living expenses, even if just barely.

Shia was terrified, but she accepted. She didn't want to die on the street and disappoint her grandparents. Ever since, she'd been working there with a grateful smile but still not everything was as it seemed. The office culture was incredibly harsh on Shia; the Men harassed her and constantly while the other woman would belittle and gosip as a defense to avoid from behind the butt of the jokes themselves. Often many would dump their extra work on her to do even if she wasn't qualified to do it. Shia feared losing the one job that could pay her bills, so she worked extra hard at home to study and do her best to complete her new assignments in order to not be blamed for not finishing assignments that she wasn't even supposed to do.

Worst of all; her boss, the Man who'd 'rescued' her was always nagging her for dates, dinners, and other things with promises of higher pay. Offers she reluctantly accpeted, often ending up at his apartment drunk or worse. He never stayed around after however, much to her relief, and on such occassions Shia would often take comfort in talking to his silver spoon fed daughter who ironically her opposite, being incredibly confident in her ability while having absolutely none at all. Shia pitied the girl who certainly seemed troubled, making her breakfast and having a nice chat before she called a cab to go back to work on her own.

Everything changed when she met Eun-Jeong, or rather The Black Tortoise. An alluring and rather intense Woman who had approached her for some reason or another, offering an escape from her nightmares. A proposal too temptatious to refuse; all she had to do was become Eun-Jeong's Vessel, a human housing a greater spirit in order to contain their true strength while on Earth. Eun-Jeong confessed to being worried about losing herself to corruption; a Goddess turned Demon after being betrayed by both Humans' while the Gods turned their back on her plight for some reason. None of it was fully explained to Shia but the Secretary understood that the Deity needed to limit their own power in order to slow down their descent into world destroying beast.

Shia accepted and in turn she received her own divine abilities as a part of their deal, but most importantly Eun-Jeong herself. The Goddess helped her break the ice she'd been drowning under for so long. Revenge served cold; just like the lifeless body of the CEO she'd manipulated into marriage before ruthlessly murdering. Freeing herself from the curse that was her life and begining anew. The Widow took the position of CEO at the company and to everyone's surprise, managed it much better than their previous boss. With the one caveat that while kind, the Woman was absolutely vicious and not to be messed with at any cost. Now with Eun-Jeong, her company, and a step-daughter to care for Shia finally felt like she had a purpose.

Business

Shia is a shrewd business woman with a powerful presence. Whenever she's attending a conference, most are rightfully cautious to never disrespect her. In turn, she runs things fairly and as smoothly as possible for everyone. After many of the Men had been fired or most likely sued on accounts of harassment or whatever dirt she had dug up, the company mainly hired Women who were experts in their fields of study as well as starting a internship program with Ewha Womans University; of which Shia was ceremoniously awarded an honorary Doctorate.

Ice Cold

As the Winter Vessel of The Black Tortoise of the North Shia received an affinity towards both water and ice, though mainly ice in her case. Her natural body temperature is slightly lower than average and on particularly hot humid days, if one looks carefully enough they could see a slight fog of water vapor forming around her. Shia is also essentially immune to the cold and oddly enough can't slip on ice. She's learned to harness her abilities with training from Eun-Jeong, making them a very dangerous duo.

The Tortoise

Shia having lived at a Shrine dedicated to the Four Auspicious Beasts most her life, she was more than familiar with the stories of the Black Tortoise. Now under their protection Shia eventually returned to her old home and revamped in reverence of the Black Tortoise, much like that families with praised the other Beasts and still visits from time to time. The Shrine now promoting and spreading the lost history to the public, as well as being a place of refuge for when she needs to get away. Shia even adopted a baby tortoise to take care of in; their name is Bingsu (빙수 - 수빙 backwards, which means ice that covers trees in Winter)

Deep Water

Along with her affinity for the cold, Shia has a connection to water. She can hold her breath for twice as long as the average Human and is an excellent swimmer, the colder the water the better. She had been attempting to control and manipulate water for some time, but it always ends up freezing; at best becoming a slurry of slush and rather sharp shards of ice.

Corrupted

After making a pact with Eun-Jeong and becoming the Demoness' Vessel, the darkness that had built inside Shia had begun to leak out, slowly shifting the Woman from a cute, clumsy, and harmless background character into a frigid, imposing, and very dangerous main villain. An antagonist to not be crossed, though she still retains much of her cute and caring attitude, Shia fears she may one day lose it. That both she and Eun-Jeong could end up diving in too deep and nerver resurface.

Her Winter

Shia's relationship with Eun-Jeong is one with many flowing parts that may seem rather confusing to an observer. Eun-Jeong had taken Shia's former secretary position, though with many more perks, as well as more control over operations of BAI. The Vessel on the other hands worships The Black Tortoise despite other Woman allowing and often encouraging Shia to take the lead in many aspects. The pair eventually officially began dating at some point and are currently engaged.
