The Ferryman
For an orphan, life at Lockheed Orphanage for the Supernaturally Gifted was quite pleasant. You are well fed, well-taught, and if you needed anything, anything at all, you need only write a note. Your caretaker would bring it to the Owner and subsequently grant you your wish so long as it was within her reach. Outside of the orphanage, a statue of the Owner stood tall and proud, commemorating her opening of the orphanage during the war for children's whose were lost as a result of it. When the British Crown discovered those among their ranks with strange abilities and 'oddities' as it was said, Lockheed Orphanage was more than happy to take them in. There, they would be trained and taught in both the use of their powers and in how to make the world a better place for it.
During Christmas, you were allowed to ask for new toys and clothes. Some orphans would ask for radios to listen to premiere league matches between England's finest football clubs, others for footballs of their own, and still others for hats, dolls, makeup, and so on. Life was nice. The grass was green during the summers with pleasant breezes rustling through the trees and during the winters, a fireplace was always kept and the caretakers would treat them to a cup of tea or hot chocolate if asked. Their beds were warm and clean, their food was well-prepared and delicious, and when they wondered about the outside world, field trips were organized. A couple of cars would drive up to the orphanage thanks to the government's agreement with the Owner and alongside your drivers and some Caretakers as chaperones, the orphans would drive into Durham and spend a day shopping, exploring, and meeting new people. The only lament was that new friends never got a chance to visit. As it stands, the government takes great care in ensuring that none discover the oddities that lie within the orphans. In the interest of living out a normal life, the Owner was obligated to ensure that nothing drastic occurred regarding the abilities many held to be supernatural or otherworldly. A small price to pay. Those caught sneaking about or causing mischief were given a slap on the wrist and sent back to their rooms.
The Orphanage itself, was quite nice:
Entrance/Foyer: When you walk into Lockheed, you are met by this room. It is also central to all the other rooms on the first floor. Simple enough yeah? Not quite.
There’s a staircase here. The only one in the orphanage in fact. If you tried to run the stairs and reach the second floor, you just… can’t. The stairs end abruptly by a wall, a ceiling, or don’t end at all, spiraling infinitely upwards and when you turn around, you find yourself back at the bottom of the stairs.
The Library: Ok so I lied. There is one other staircase in the first floor but the library has no doors on its second floor. Only more books on bookshelves. Here you can enjoy all sorts of stories collected from centuries past. There are some new books though! The Great Gatsby was recently published by an American author and it’s been critically acclaimed by many papers. It should prove an interested read at least.
The Dining Hall: This is for supper. Gather here when dinner has been prepared or risk losing your chance to eat!
The Breakfast Hall: Located on the opposite wing of the orphanage and closer to the bedrooms, the Breakfast Hall is a more comfortable setting for both the morning and afternoon meals. It’s more casual setting is far less strict than the Dining Hall. While you risk missing dinner if you aren’t on time, you can generally come here to eat at any point in the day so long as one of the caretakers happen to be operating in the kitchen.
The Kitchen: Self-explanatory! All food is provided by the kitchen and a weekly delivery (every Sunday) is made with all sorts of ingredients to last the orphanage for quite some time! There is bountiful extra space for proper storage and preservation of meats, vegetables, and other goods!
The Hall: This hallway connects the two wings of the orphanage beyond the Foyer. Here, bother the Caretakers and the Orphans will reside. The Caretakers being at the end of the hall with their individual rooms like below:
And the Orphans in rooms of 4 with two bunk beads available to them! You are free to group yourselves into 4 groups however you like!
