Forest Clearing

Maria walked out from under the cover of trees, and into a large clearing, in the middle of the forest.
‘Wow.’ The scene had always taken her breath away. How could there be such an expanse of nothing-ness, cradled at the heart of dense woods? 'Unbelievable.' The woman allowed herself a small smile, then glanced at the two men standing on either side of her. Johann and Ridley.

Maria looked forward, finally speaking.
“Are you two ready?” Walking forward now with blades drawn, a wary eye was cast around the surrounding area. Gingerly, she stepped forward deeper into the clearing, and the two men followed suit. “Eyes open. They said they would meet us here, but I wouldn't trust their lot for a second.”

A truce. A truce between man and monster. Maria couldn't believe it.
‘But things aren't up to me. Man! How can they be so stupid?’

Looking down that path leading to the clearing, the blonde sighed and steadied her shaking hands. If anything were to go wrong, five of the best fighters in the world, would be there in moments: James Heinrich, Donovan Hunt, Torrey Jennings, Janie Haruka, and Piper Greer. ‘Relax Maria. Shake it off. Focus.’ Minute after minute passed, and sweat dripped down to the floor, from the taut faces of those three present. Gradually, Maria began to ease into a peaceful trance. ‘Maybe it was all just a hoax to begin with..I don’t think they’re really coming. It’s been too long since the supposed start time. A few more minutes then and we’re out of here. Just a few more minutes.’

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

Snap!

The cover of the commander’s pocket-watch clicked shut, as the time to retreat came.
“It looks like they’re not showing up. Johann. Ridley. We’re going to take a well-deserved break. That was the last assignment of our month’s shift.” Turning to face Johann, she continued, “Now--…”

Crunch!

The woman knew, before it happened. The woman knew, while it happened. The woman knew, after it was all over. All Maria could do, was watch with bleary eyes, as if seemingly in slow motion, a leaping titan flew past, carrying Johann’s life-less body in its mouth.

Schwink!

“JOHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANN!”

But it was already too late to stop it. The monster was already bounding away, with her friend’s blood-soaked form, clenched tightly in its jaws. Now, three 7-meter titans were running in Maria and Ridley’s direction. Slowly, through a wave of rage and tears, the blonde pulled the smoke gun clasped onto her belt, and fired it up into the air.
Red.

“Get ready Ridley. We’re going to kill these things dead; and then kill them again,” she sobbed. Moaning while creaking into a ready position, the commander stared down the oncoming Titans. ‘We have some people of our own coming too, you vile, skinless, dogs. You're going to regret the day you crossed us.'

The red smoke bleached the sky above where Piper perched in a tree. She winced at the pop of gunfire. It make her heart beat hard out of rhythm. Piper gripped her bulwarks. Her knuckles tight around the gear. Clutching them gave her a sense of protection, it made her feel not helpless. She took a step forward on the tree limb. It wouldn't take long to make it to the clearing. Piper glanced around for the more experienced members of her squad. In hindsight, this entire mission was a horrible idea. Titans were monsters through and through and they probably always would be.

"Holy shiitake mushrooms. The signals red." Piper passingly recognized how childish she sounded given the situation but ignored it. "I hope the commander's okay." Johann and Ridley too. Her voice sounded pinched but she tried to keep a cool demeanor. Johann always seemed good under pressure. Piper tried to blank her expression and calm down like she imagined he would do.

Piper's gaze hardened. She flexed her fingers on her gear. "Please don't be dead by the time I get there." Piper muttered.

She used her bulwarks to get back on the ground. It took a second to reorient herself from so high up. Piper's horse startled when she landed beside him. She hadn't made a sound and Philip looked at her like that made her the devil. Its wide eyed expression faded after a moment. Piper gripped his reigns and climbed on. She immediately distrusted the clearing. There wasn't much to work with in the maneuvering gear department.

Piper tore out her blade--she was left-handed--a second before she saw the 7 meters corralling Maria and Ridley. Piper gritted her teeth as she took in the situation. Her eyes widened at Johann's broken body. A choked sob rattled through her. At that moment something in Piper turned to steel. She took a deep breath and plotted to take down one of the 7 meters while they were focused on Ridley and the commander. "Stay with me Philip." Piper muttered to her horse. "This is gonna suck."

His back was up against the rough bark of the tree trunk and his eyes closed when he heard the sound of the gun being fired. His left eye, a startling blue, flicked open. He had been focusing in–centering himself–to prepare for the upcoming fight; he had been sure things wouldn't go smoothly. James launched himself from his position on the branch. His jaw was clenched as he made his way towards the clearing. Maybe he should have tried harder to stop this from happening. There was no use to being optimistic, not in this world.

James flew through the trees in a way reminiscent of his true "wildfire" days. He had some awareness that he was using too much gas–should be conserving it instead–but adrenaline was pumping through his veins; he needed to get there. His position had been close to the clearing, very close, for a quick response time. He heard the cries of the titans before he saw them, and had blades in hand before he entered the clearing.

At the scene laid out before him, James' jaw clenched so hard he thought his bones might crack. His vision fell upon Johann's broken body, and blood on the ground. Johann was dead. He didn't cry like he would've in his early days; the gleam in his eye merely hardened. He knew now that there was no time for tears on the battlefield. Their priority, was to kill those titans. There were to be no attempts at truces from now on; they'd learned their lesson, hadn't they?

The wind whistled in his ears as he headed for the ground. His grip tightened as he landed and his left knee hit the earth a moment later; he was being careless. But there was no time for pause, and James was running towards the titans. He was dimly aware of the risk he was taking, but adrenaline was clouding his judgement, and it was his duty to protect the commander and to kill the 7 meters in front of him. While his strategical center had quieted, his senses and instinct were heightened. Though his sight was not what it had once been, he was observant and quick to react.

Even as he was running, his gaze darted around the edge of the clearing to check for the presence or appearance of more titans. Seeing none yet, he bounded forward with the sole aim of killing the 7 meter closest to him. James briefly registered that Piper, too, was headed towards the titans, and he was clearheaded enough to avoid a collision with her.

It was quite... no, a slight tapping sound could be heard by those that were near by. Then the sound of the flare and the titans stomping about filled the air, so much so that the sound of leaves rustling as the branch that they covered splintered into a couple pieces as something jumped from them. Then from the forest came flying a man. A slap and a slight vibration could be heard when a cord connected to the man sank deep into flesh. The man travelled at great speeds towards the behemoth the cord was attached to and did a spiral. He used the two swords he donned and the sound of flesh being shredded through could be heard as he made two horizontal cuts through the nape of the beasts neck which merged on either end, effectively killing the titan. The titan fell in a heap on the ground...

Flashback

Donovan Hunt stood up in a tree at the edge of the clearing. Some of his near by comrades were either standing in trees or on horses at ground level. He inhaled back again as he watched the ones at ground level move into the clearing. His eye's were scanning the environment for areas where it was easy or hard to use his gear. He looked to the person on his left, Janie Haruka. He couldn't help but smile a little. "Oi, Janie. I bet you I could kill more titans than you" he said smirking. He leaned against the tree and began to tap his fingers against the trunk of the tree. His horse stood at the tree below him. Then the events began to unfold.

End of Flashback

Donovan rose from the body of the 7 meter titan. His smoke was now bent and crocked but he puffed back on it any ways. He watched as the 5 meter readied to pounce at him. He shot his gear at a near by tree and blew a small whistle attached to his neck. He launched himself up into the air and his horse came running at the call of the whistle and he landed perfectly onto it just barely missing the attack made by the "happy-go-jumpy" titan. he rode over to Maria. He saw the blood of a human covering the ground. "What Happened Here?!?!" he shouted so her could be heard over all the noise.

@Kinesthetics

During the flashback

Janie looked over at her fellow friend as he betted he could kill more titans then she could. "This isnt a Game, Don. This is something serious. Something you shouldnt take lightly." she stated as she stood on a thick branch with great balance, waiting to see what would happen. Thoughts ran through her head as she waited silently. Time passed and she was getting anxious. She couldnt take the waiting. Waiting just irritated her but it was something she signed up for. She stood on her ground..

End Flashback...

Janie instantly grabbed her blades and shot out her grapples, watching as the 5 meter titan tried to kill one of her comrades. Instantly, she kicked into gear and went streight for it, preparing her blades and goign streight for the neck, slicing it as she went by. She then got her horse and got on it, running off after Donovan. Only to see him yelling at Maria, one of the soldiers on their group.

Eyes watched as the five meter titan rampaged about. Torrey had been perched up high upon a branch belonging to a rather old-looking tree, hidden out-of-sight by the various leaves which littered the top radius. The titan had jumped up to bite at Donovan, but missed - Janie then sprung into action as well, trying to slice the titan's neck as it rose higher into the air. Acknowledging that the slice hadn't gone deep enough and without any hesitation whatsoever, Torrey's feet would leave the branch he was standing on - his body busting through various leaves to expose himself before the grapple-hooks belonging to his maneuver gear shot out as wide and as far as they could. Ultimately, one missed; the other lodged itself through the branch of a tree which was across the clearing which the five-meter titan was currently present.

Gravity caused his body to drop, the wire allowing Torrey to swing down as far as he could toward the leaping titan, which was making it's way down toward the ground at this point as well. As he neared, the young man would apply his boosters, shooting toward the neck of the descending titan as another 7-meter titan's hand reached up in attempts to grab him out of the air. Turning his body gracefully, Torrey's back would slide along the thumb of the titan - who ultimately missed while he simultaneously removed both of his blades from the propellers. His back remained arched slightly as he passed the titan, before landing on the back of the leaping titan. He hadn't seen the other seven-meter come out to play at first, but he wasn't pleased that his environmental awareness had failed him in picking the image up. How the hell do he miss seeing something that's so abnormally large?

Spinning both of the swords above his head, Torrey would immediately plunge both blades into the neck of the leaping titan, killing it off as quickly as possible. Pulling the grips out, both blades remained within the neck of the dead titan as the young man turned around to face the advancing titan whom he had just danced with moments prior. It reached it's hand out to grab Torrey once more, but the young man was certainly not a push-over; nor did he fear death, so staring in awe wasn't an option to be considered.

Quickly shoving the grips into the sheaths provided by the propeller, blades would attach once more before Torrey ripped the swords from their positioning; crouching and hopping back slightly as a couple of fingers fell from the titan's hand and hit the flesh of the dead titan under him, which had since collapsed on the ground. Applying gas to the boosters once more, Torrey shot backwards while he was still slightly air bound, leaving smoke in the face of the seven-foot titan. He hadn't extended any hooks, so as his body ricocheted backwards at good four feet above the ground, it flipped vertically a couple of times.

In order to preserve his gas, Torrey hadn't kept the boosters on too long; maybe a second, or two at most to get his momentum moving backwards. As he descended toward the ground, the young man was able to slam his feet into the dirt, skidding to a stop beside both Ridley and Commander Wright. Fixing his positioning so that he was standing straight, he looked onward as the seven-meter titan continued its advance, obviously with a couple less fingers than it previously had.

The wind blew once more, providing a loud whistle as it went through the small clearing. Torrey remained as silent as usual, eyes not bothering to leave the titan to acknowledge the presence of the Commander and Ridley. He wasn't picked to be a part of the squad because he was friendly, after all - no, Torrey's predisposition as well as his downside was the loner which lingered at the helm of his personality.

Two down, two to go.

Forest Clearing
Off in the distance, the startled whinny of a horse could be heard. 'Philip.' The woman clicked her tongue, as a picture of its rider, waltzed into mind. Piper, was the last person, she wanted anywhere near the situation. Yes, she had excellent 3D-gear maneuvering skills; probably the best on the team, but it was her attitude and mindset that worried the blonde. On missions prior, there would be times Maria caught Piper day-dreaming in the middle of a lesson. While on brisk morning runs at the academy, she would also notice the girl lagging behind the other students, right around the passing of the 3-mile mark. She saw something in Ms. Greer. Something that told her this girl didn't quite understand the scope of what was going on. Yet despite, all of the Commander's pleading to the Captain of the school not to pass her, it was to no avail.

"Her mobility is off the charts Maria. We need people like her, whether they're ready or not. That's why we have people like you to lead them." Ms. Greer became a soldier. @kirito1337

Yet, it was Janie Haruka she admired the most. Watching the woman give a glancing blow, the the backside of the Leaping Titan's neck, Maria's eyes narrowed as driven by a subtle longing for what she had. Her skills might not be top-tier, but she had the mind of a soldier. Haruka followed her orders, and pushed on without fear. Even now, Maria was hesitant about her own instructions, but knew, if their places were switched, Janie would have carried things out, with no hesitation. The girl wanted to make a difference, even if it was small.
'Yup. She is definitely someone we need. The willingness to follow the issues of those in charge, without looking back. Even if it takes you to the ends of the world; even if it means you're not coming back. Janie, you are undoubtedly a better person, than I ever will be. If only you knew how much I meant it. I really do envy you.' @Britt-21

'Sometimes, I wonder what you would have done... ' Commander Wright then closed her thoughts, as Donovan Hunt came running up her. "What Happened Here?!?!" Smiling the woman replied, "Well hello to you too. And to answer your question, the deal went sour. It looks like it was all one big trick to get us out here. Though," she breathed, as Torrey sprung into action, "They may have got it wrong." Torrey Jennings was an enigma. All she knew for certain, was that there was no stopping this man, unless both arms and legs were torn from his body; even then, he would crawl and push on moving his torso alone.

"Loyalty. Respect. Honor. Live with meaning, Stand for something, or die for nothing."

"The human spirit is impenetrable. Nothing can stop us if we take what we want."

"If you rode in expecting to die, that's exactly how you're going to end up."

A few of his words echoed through ears, as Torrey dodged the blow of a 7-meter titan, and shot towards the 5-meter.

"Distraction is inevitable. Question is, will you bounce back, or bounce backwards?"

Two blades were sunk into its neck.

"Why do I fight? Same reason as everyone else. The only difference is, I have nothing to lose."

Again the 7-meter titan came towards the boy, trying to swipe at him again. When its hand came back up, it had a few less digits than before it went down. 'Amazing. The tactical mind...attention to his gear and positioning. Wonderful.' Jennings was who pushed Maria to aspire for more. Whenever she watched him in battle, words of his sprung to life; drawing her to believe in winning. Drawing her to believe that one day, humans would defeat the Titans. It was an outlandish thought, but this boy's visage allayed her fears, even if just for a brief moment. @Braxnond

'Okay. Time to go. Thank you Torrey.'

"JAMES! CLEAR THE WAY!" She then swung right. "Ridley, you're with me. Momentum. Let's go." The man obeyed, running forward towards one of the two remaining titans. As it set eyes on and began to follow him, Maria darted towards the giant. Moving closer and closer towards the beast, Ridley stopped and goaded the thing into swinging. Staying true to its animal instincts, the monster swung with all its might, hoping to swat the tiny human into oblivion. The commander grinned, readying her hooks as the Titan's arm came down. 'Good Job Ridley. I can always depend on you.'

Swoosh!

Maria launched a hook into the being's hand, as Ridley dived to the side, ducking under it's speeding blow. The motion of the Titan's swing, flung the blonde through the air, as it dragged her right along its course. Once the hand reached the opposite shoulder and stopped, Maria released the hooks and curled her body into a ball with blades spinning. Through nothingness she tore, spinning like a serrated top, towards the back of the Titan's. In a few seconds, she would hit her mark, and there would be just one more left. The nightmare would finally end. At least for now.

C-c-c-crack...

'No...'

Maria had missed. Straightening herself out, still ripping through the air, the horizon filled her sight.

She could see everything..

She could see everything...

Agitation and tension tore through her soaring body, while Maria looked down to see what had happened.
'Oh my God. The clearing.'

Web_Pics_0411.jpg

It was crumbling to pieces. The Titan had fell through the earth, just as the blades were set to make contact with its neck. All around, the ground was sinking down into a bottomless pit. For the first time ever, Maria felt fear in its purest. Janie, Torrey, Donovan, Piper, James, Ridley; they were all sinking down, deeper and deeper, into the depths of the darkness.
'What have we gotten ourselves into...'

Those were the last thoughts on the woman's mind, as she followed her team, and fell down on her descent, into the bottomless pit. Turning around to look up at the fading sunlight, Maria's eyes widened at what she saw leaping in right after her:

There was no way they were getting back out.

*The next phase, will take place in the air, as everyone falls through the gaping hole. Remember, there are still two Titans alive.*

James didn't break stride even as he heard his commander call. Spurred on by the command, he dashed past Ridley and the commander to the 7-meter behind them. He was told to clear the way, and clear the way he would–he would have even without the direct command. His eye focused on the titan. At the moment, it wasn't paying attention to him, and he could take advantage of that

His hands clenched tightly around the grips of his blades. Using the momentum he had from running, though not much, he hooked onto a spot near the nape of the titan's neck and swung towards it. James flipped in midair as he flew towards his target. When almost there, he pulled his arms in spinning himself as he sliced at the nape–once, twice, three times. The familiar sound of air whipping past met his ears, and he felt the brief resistance as each time he made a cut. James released the hook from the nape, and was swinging away from the titan when he heard the ominous crack.

He froze. Instead of slamming into the ground, he was falling–falling below the surface. His heartbeat seemed to stop as he fell. He had always hated heights–hated the fear of falling into the unknown. And here, he was met with his worst fear. The hole below him looked like a gaping maw; he had always imagined dying falling into a titan's mouth. He had lived his life with that fear, and maybe that's why he had always been scared of falling. The muscles in his body felt stiff, frozen. Falling into this pit, he had no idea how to react. He had trained to fight titans and even humans, but not simply dropping into the earth.

The light from the opening was suddenly obscured. It took a moment for James to understand why he was automatically aiming his hooks towards the shadow: it was a titan. With the presence of a titan, his body regained mobility and his mind cleared. He was almost thankful for its presence, because it cleared his mind of everything else. His objective was to kill titans, and that was all that mattered now.

[Cavern Descent] Maria Wright + Female Titan
Still frozen in terror, Maria heard the familiar, metallic spring of hooks being launched. Head flipping left, she saw as James fired straight at the incoming creature. Yet, she knew it was of no use. Here, up in the air, they only had the titan's body to rappel around; which would undoubtedly lead to an untimely death. The commander could only watch, as the monster twisted to the side, letting the anchors blow past with an audible woosh. The commander could only watch, as the lines connected to James' gear, were gripped in a skinless-fist. The commander could only watch, as he was jerked up, with the pull of an arm, straight into a set of waiting jaws. They closed with a sickening crunch, just above his knees. Maria couldn't move. She didn't know what to do. There were no buildings, no back-up, no safe havens; it was all over. Sheathing her swords, and laying flat in the air, the blonde watched as the upper half of James' body spun, dropping along with the rest of the team. 'Losing legs..not fatal...but what does it matter...? We'll all be dead soon anyways..' @kirito1337

Ridley
"Commander!" He feared this day would come. Yes, she had led many teams through countless precarious situations, but he could tell that each and every encounter, had taken away a piece of her. It would only be a matter of time, before she cracked under the strain....and it seemed as if that time, had finally came. She had done nothing for James. Now her most cherished, Donovan, was going to share a similar fate. 'Commander..I'm doing this for you. I will save him.' Launching his own hooks into the passing Titan, Ridley, was subsequently dragged, into a whipping spiral.

'Must.'

The swords flew from his hands.

'Save.'

Blood began to rush to his head.

'Her.'

He started losing consciousness.

'On..ly.'

His neck snapped, as vomit struggled to leak out of his throat.

As everything below his chin, ceased functioning, Ridley's last word, could only be thought, before passing out from the pressure. Light.

Maria
Complete anguish wracked the air, as the Commander watched the death of two of her team, simultaneously. Just as the zenith, of the swirling Titan tore through Donovan's chest, Ridley's body soared out of the maneuver gear, smashing into the rock, of a far-off, cavern wall.

As both the commander and Ridley moved to take on the titan whom Torrey had slowed for a brief moment, he set his hooks into a tree branch high above the Titan and used his boosters to thrust himself high up into the air. Maybe at about seventeen to twenty feet in the air, Torrey watched as the clearing ultimately fell through; leading a couple of his teammates to fall as a result - along with the Titan whom the commander and Ridley had both been facing off against prior to. The high gusts of wind made both his hair and clothing rustle wildly as gravity began to pull his form downward at the peak of his ascending momentum. Something had to be done about that Titan, immediately. Luckily enough, James had been able to take on the seven-meter Titan with relative ease... Or so it seemed.

The only problem was the fact that this one Titan had been in an enclosed space with a seemingly endless bottom. It had a much easier chance of murdering more than half of the team given it's current positioning along with theirs. Shifting the weight of his body forward, Torrey's feet extended into the air as he free-fell toward the hole. Twenty feet passed quickly as his body zoomed down into the abyss, arms tucked in at his side so that he would maintain or gradually increase in speed as he fell. His eyes took a moment to adjust, but he made out the frames of James and the Commander just fine. The Titan, who had originally leaped in after his team mates who had fallen, hadn't had the best time maneuvering in the air to get her food. Torrey wasn't interested in taking the Titan out as much as he was seeing the leader survive, though.

As Torrey neared the Titan, it extended it's arm out in an action which could only be described as perfect timing for the Titan. The young man had to completely arch his back so that his body missed being stopped by the large appendage. Had he not done something to move out of the way, the force of his momentum falling from over thirty feet into the air being immediately stopped would probably break more bones in his body than he would care to count... Or witness. At first, Torrey didn't think he would be able to dodge the Titan's arm, but a stroke of luck had seemed to carry him past the obstacle in his way. He had to slow himself down - there was nothing he could do from here, especially given his positioning. So, he fixed his positioning and extended all four of his limbs while straightening himself out in the air.

He was too late. Expressionless, Torrey watched as the man's legs were bit off. Donovan was murdered after, plummeted by the female titan's obnoxious offensive assault and ripped into pieces. Even Ridley fell suit to the Titan's will, having crashed off into a cavern wall with his body practically exploding like a squished bug. Luckily enough, the Titan had been taken out during the fight; Torrey watched the head separate from its torso. As the group neared the ground, the young man would extend his lines out into the darkness - both didn't hook immediately, however, so Torrey continued to fall, nearing the ground. When they did, his body was jerked slightly due to his weight forcing pressure onto the maneuver gear.

One of the lines snapped, causing Torrey's body to dangle haphazardly. Then, that one snapped appropriately. Flipping down from a height of ten feet in the air, the agile soldier was able to turn his body so that he landed on his feet, with one hand placed on the ground to hold his balance up. Well, this definitely did not fall out of character regarding Torrey's athletic nature; much like cat, he was always at least able to land on his feet from close enough distances regardless of his positioning. As he rose back to an upright positioning with his feet planted firmly on the ground, Torrey noticed the head of the female titan lying only a couple of paces away. Its face was horrifyingly contorted into a twisted expression, with its eyes rolled upward toward the ceiling of the... Where the hell were they, exactly? A cave? It was definitely not what the young man had been expecting after falling through the ground of a forest.

There was nothing to say. Torrey didn't look up to gauge the reactions of his teammates who had survived, nor did he watch how they landed. He was intent on listening to his surroundings - loud sounds easily echo in cavernous areas, so if there had been another Titan alive, surely he would be able to hear it with ease - along with the rest of the group. His lines needed to be replaced, so he was a bit of a sitting duck at the moment. He could fix them and create makeshift hooks out, but he wasn't quite sure he had the materials to do so. The young man lifted one of his hands to his forehead, cupping it as he shook his head from side to side in slight frustration. Had he not sprung into action so quickly, he could have stayed in the forest and had a more significant chance of surviving than he had at the moment. He wanted to help, though... Could he really blame himself for that?

Janie did not expect all this to happen before her eyes. Before she knew it, she was falling through a floor-Back First- and going full speed towards the ground. Thing is, she didnt realize that the female titan died and its body was laying on the floor and she landed on the body. Air racing out of her lungs, causing her to gasp some air back into her lungs. Coughing, she sat up. Only to feel dizzy, but that didnt stop her from getting up to her feet. D-Damn it. Dont give up, push yourself. she thought to herself, gritting her teeth as she took her hand and lifted her necklace, kissing the cross before letting it hang on her neck again.

Looking around, she noticed dead bodies-One was Dons..but she did not try to cry. It made her heart ache-, but she tried not to let it bug her as she grabbed her swords from her gear and watched as the last titan fell down with the rest of them. She wasnt going down without a fight and she sure wasnt letting her comrades get killed by one last titan. "I will not let you all die on me!" she yelled towards the comrades who could hear her. Instantly, she used the walls to her advantage to get the titan that landed with them.

The oxygen plummeted from Piper's lungs. She landed moments after Janie--on the slope of the female's titans side. Her adrenaline redoubled. She retreated out of grabbing distance from massive hands and cannibal teeth. Even if, on on closer inspection, the female titan wasn't a threat anymore. Wine dark hair spilled into her eyes, giving Piper a more lethal look. Her breathing was frantic, but soft enough not to be heard. She tore out her blades (managing just barely not to slice off her own shaky fingers). It was hard to make out shapes. Piper needed a moment for her eyes to adjust to the light contrast. The floating dust motes.

Piper gaped at the carnage of her comrades. Donovan. Ridley. James without his legs. Her horse--Phillip--had crashed into a puddle somewhere in the distance. It sounded like he dislocated his legs from the fall (the screams). Piper found herself fiendishly glad that maybe the last titan might go after her horse instead of them. "Captain" The word was breathy at first. Piper tried again, "Captain, what do we do?"

Janie moving snapped Piper back to herself. If she could think anything else, Piper could remember that she was scout regiment. And how come no one else ever seemed to hesitate? "I've got you covered Janie." Piper promised maybe a beat behind her. She zeroed in on the last 7 meter's ankles. "No one else is going to die." She echoed. And even then it didn't feel true.

[Cavern Floor] Maria Wright
'How could they...' She thought, descending through the air. 'My Donovan..' The 7-meter titan James had maimed before the floor caved in, came roaring towards the ground. Slamming into it shoulder-first, its chest caved in, but moments later it reformed its torso, in a haze of steam. Yet, all was not right, James' cuts had indeed struck the titan in the neck, but they were inches away from being fatal.

"I will not let you all die on me!"

Turning it's head towards the noise, the skin on its neck began falling off, exposing the torn veins underneath. @Britt-21

Now rotating once more to catch a glimpse of Piper, running to Janie's rear, it keeled over with a thud; finally succumbing to its prior wounds through the neck. @kirito1337
[/i]

Tears began streaming down her face, as the Female Titan's corpse drew closer and closer. There was only one way they'd get out of this. This she knew, but at the same time, they were humans; no matter what was said, or what deals were made, the titans could go to hell. Removing the blade at her throat,

Scchhink!

Maria pulled out her other, throwing it straight at the Female Titan's head. There was no way in hell, they were going down without a fight. 'Over our dead bodies, we'll ever bow our heads to you freaks.' Two hooks shot out of her gear, sinking into the belly the female titan. Swinging the lines till she met the cavern floor, the hooks released, but Maria did not stop to land. The woman kept the momentum, running towards the creatures face.

"Captain." Maria steamed with rage, chopping off think chunks of meat from the titan's life-less face. "I'll pay you back ten-fold!" She continued to hack away in anger and regret for not lifting a finger, and giving up so easily before. "When I see them again, we're going to laugh about how I shredded you into tiny pieces!"

"Captain, what do we do?" Giving the monster one last hate-filled slash, Maria gazed at Piper, with a new look. Not one of serenity, kindness, or sorrow, but one burning of resolve. "We don't die," she cooly replied. "Is that good enough for you Piper? Let me tell you something. This is not a game. It's not sexy. It's not cool. This is very real. We fight knowing our lives could be gone at any second. You better shape up and start seeing this for what it is." @Cross_Rhodes

"And you Janie!" She yelled. "Are you really willing to die for man-kind?" Maria laughed and shook her it was such a silly question. This was what Janie signed up for; of course she was. @Britt-21

Torrey. What could she tell the boy? Absolutely nothing. He knew what he was there to do. He had learned in half the years, what she had just come to terms with herself. He would make an amazing general. When they made it out of here, she was going straight to HQ to recommend the man to the higher-ups for promotion.
'When we make it out..' @Braxnond

Dum-Dum-Dum-Dum-Dum. One, two, three pairs of heavy feet could be heard off in the distance. Four, five six, seven. They stormed closer. Eight, nine, ten, eleven. It was thunderous. When the source of the noise crested into view, there were titans, stretching as far as the eye could see. Closing her lids, only to re-open them seconds later, the commander, with voice resonant and sure, issued a command, "Strike them all down, and don't you dare die. Swear it to me, yourself, family, friends, and everyone else you love, and hold dear."

Striding over to James, laying leg-less on the ground, the Commander's face, returned to it's natural radiance of peace and tender care. Taking James' hand in hers, she squeezed it hard. "It will all be over soon, James," she whispered. Letting go, the blonde stood, turning to the onslaught of Titans, she would protect his maimed body with everything she had. @ambrosia

He didn't register the bite until he was falling. Freefall. His thoughts were scattered, disorganized, but there was still one clear message in his mind: don't die. He'd always survived, and never given up. James felt his consciousness slipping as he fell. The pain. The pain. Of course he'd been in pain–been injured–before, but this was different. It wasn't the sharp pain like he'd experienced with the loss of his eye. That had been agonizing, but he'd managed to get back to his horse and ride back to the wall. This pain was numbing. He felt like he was sinking into a deep ocean and the light was getting farther and farther away.

His mind drifted into the past. They say your life flashes before your eyes when you die, and James could see his life sprawled out before his eyes. His first memories were blurry and full of sunlight. Happiness. His mother's face floated into view. How long had it been since he'd thought about his family? James felt his heart clench. He had come from a loving home, long, long ago. Then he saw the streets. They were dirty and full of sadness. There was a thickness to the air, and no sunlight in the alley's of the outer walls.

Even as a young boy, he had dropped the memories of his family–discarded the thoughts of his life before. It was easier to ignore his past than to accept it; so he had crushed his beginnings, and moved forward. He remembered the first fight he'd gotten into. It happened only a few days after his parent's death and his own banishment to the streets. He had hardly been used to living outside, never mind living alone and hunting for himself. But there was another boy carrying a loaf of bread, and he hadn't eaten in three days.

James was shocked out of his trance-like state as he landed. He felt his body crash into something, and he thought his bones would all break. Maybe it would be easier if he had just died. James landed on top of the female titan, which broke his fall a small bit. The wind was knocked out of him. And he struggled to recover oxygen. His legs were bleeding, he knew, and the pain was clouding his thoughts. Stop the bleeding. He would slowly bleed to death if he failed.

Stop the bleeding. His mind echoed. Please... but his consciousness was fading again. He felt a slight pressure on his hand, and just barely heard his captain's assurance. I want to fight... His thoughts dispersed, but he struggled to hold onto consciousness. As he was, he knew he would get in the way of the fight. James struggled to open his eyes, and his stomach plummeted. There was a sea of titans.

[Cavern Floor] Maria Wright
*Huff.

Huff.

Huff.*

Sweat dripped from the side of her cheek to the reddened cavern floor below. Her arms were getting limp, her thighs ached, her legs burned. Moving was getting difficult. There wasn't even enough gas left in the tank to get around. Maria's eyes darted from the pile of Titans laying around her, to James slowly fading away into death.
'........'

No thoughts were formed. She had to watch him die. 'All he needed was for someone to stop the bleeding.' Maria closed her eyes at the thought. 'That was all he needed. Yet these damn monsters..' Their endless onslaught didn't even give the woman a chance to glance at the boy.

'How many..?' Twenty? Twenty-five? Thirty?' It was 35. Thirty-five bodies laid around her and James in a bloody ring. Giving another glance towards the one in her care, she clicked her tongue. The last finger had finally slipped from the boy's grasp on a fading life. James was dead. @Braxnond [/b]

rock_1_lg.gif

Running around the perimeter of the rubble, Maria didn't flinch. She couldn't. Not now. She kept legs moving and eyes forward.

Just under an hour earlier

Titans rushed forward in a wave of mindless blood-lust. Over the cries of Piper's screaming horse, Maria yelled out formation, and more encouraging words.
"Janie and Piper. You two are our spear. Cut straight down the middle as they come on towards you both. If it's too much, hold your position until you get your bearings! Torrey! Come in on the flood from the left! Cut in and use Greer and Haruka as support if things get a bit dicey! Don't worry about me. I'll anchor here, protecting James! If I see any getting through on the right side, I'll move up and cut em' down! Are we clear all? Let's move it!"

A half-smile spread across the commander's face. Unfamiliar territory, a sea of enemies, three dead, one injured. Yet, it was still possible to win. They could still win. This was still one of the best teams humanity could have possibly assembled. If everything went just right, they would have been the ones to come into the lion's den, and survive. They would have been the ones to surmount the insurmountable.

Half-smile, turned into full, at the thought of going down in history as vanguards of the human race. Though, the bliss was short-lived, and would be the last one experienced in her life. A whooshing sound filled the air, but she could see nothing.
'What is it? What is that? Another abnormal? Are we falling again??' Yet she was wrong in every conjecture. Maria couldn't have possibly imagined what happened next. Through the air soared a rock 100 feet wide, 100 feet long. It was headed straight for Piper and Janie. "JANIE! MOVE! PIPER! GET OUT OF THERE! LOOK UP! LOOK UP!" The blonde screeched, already feeling the sting of their deaths. It was too large, and coming in too fast. Maria watched is it crashed down on the pair, sending shock-waves through the cavern, and sending a plume of azure dust into the air.

'..........'

No thoughts could be formed. She had to watch them die. @Britt-21

'So, this is it.'

When the Titans had first made their appearance known, Torrey took the gear belonging to the deceased Ridley. It took him out of the picture momentarily, but he had made his way back to the group with ease. The large number of titans did not slow him down, nor did he hesitate in action - Torrey sprung into the fray as soon as possible, swinging away at the nape of the necks belonging to each Titan who happened to be in a close enough proximity. He did not notice James passed away, though Torrey considered the man dead as soon as his legs were bit off anyway. Hopping from Titan to Titan, Torrey would occasionally dodge a flailing limb or the chomp of some rather large pearly whites before hitting his targets. The young man had taken out quite a number of them, but they seemed to be pursuing the group relentlessly.

Torrey was on his way toward another Titan with a loud yell escaping the pits of his stomach, when he zoomed past the boulder which had been flung - barely dodging it with his boosters. This same rock killed both Janie and Piper; so with that, only he and the commander had been left. Missing the Titan which he had originally aimed for, Torrey would descend down toward the ground before heading toward the described 'rock's head' in the middle of the area which the group had originally fell into. Boosting up toward the top, he stood side-by-side with his commander, the last two left.

"Our story won't be told. They won't find our bodies."

There was a short pause, complete silence aside from the disgusting groans from the grotesque creatures which had been advancing. His light-colored iris, which had been fixated on a sea of slow-moving titans heading for their direction prior to and during his statement, would turn along with his head to find Maria's visage. One of his arms found their way around her midriff, firmly holding the female before his other slammed on the boosters of his maneuver gear. They fired up quickly, hooks aimed up toward the collapsed clearing - and the two would be rocketed up into the air. He looked up at the large gap in the clearing which they had all fallen through mere moments prior, before releasing his commander's body about half-way up. The young man hit the woman's boosters at the peak of his vertical ascension, allowing her to safely clear through the top of the large, gaping abyss which the group had originally fallen out of. Just as the woman shot away, Torrey's own gas gave way. Ridley had used too much gas while he had been alive for Torrey to make it out alive, and the man knew that upon grabbing his gear. If Torrey had continued holding on to Maria, his weight would have held her down and they wouldn't have made it to the top anyway.

"Take care of yourself."

Gravity pulled the entirety of his weight downward, toward a sea of titans which had been waiting. Extending his arms out fully while falling with his back faced toward the group, Torrey's eyes watched as the woman made her escape. She had barely kept her life in the process, but planned to give it up just for a group which she selected? No. She was a good leader. The woman needed to continue her life, especially to teach other soldiers how to become good fighters for mankind. Torrey was never much of anything. He was a loner, narcissistic at times and certainly not a team player. However, the man understood his role and his strengths, which was what made him a fighter in the first place.

As he neared the ground, he felt a calm wave of satisfaction rush over him, effectively eliminating the anxiety which he had been born into such a horrible world with. It gave him a high unlike he had ever experienced before in his life. Eyelids closed, relaxing with every other muscle in his body. Finally, he would be rid of such a despair-ridden life and absolved from anguish. The corners of his mouth lifted upwards into a smirk, with his lips remaining closed. There was one thing that he would miss, though. Someone that was irreplaceable, who had provided Torrey absolutely nothing in his life but unconditional love despite the fact that he knew not of who she was.

I did the best I could, ma.

Forest Clearing - Maria Wright

09471d76.jpg

Out she popped from the cavern's top; arms and legs flailing as her body reached peak trajectory.

"PPPPPPPPPPP!!!! What the!!!"

The latter half of her flight concluded with a plummet into solid earth and several body rolls, before finally coming to a stop. With vision fading, the blonde tilted her head up to get a glimpse of who had spoken. Not much could be seen. However, with best guess, there were two standing directly in front of her.

"Wow-wow. Well what do we have here?" The voice was dripping with astonishment.

"Caleb! I told you we should have worn something to cover our faces! Now she could ruin everything! We have to kill her now!" The commander moaned, trying to speak. 'A woman..and a man..Caleb...but who..?'

"Excellent, Candace. Now she knows both our names."

A sword could be heard being drawn.

"No. Put that way."

"But Cal-"

"Who's in charge here!?" The man roared. There was no response. "Thank you. Now let me go speak to the woman."

The noise of grass crunching got closer and closer, until the deafening clamor was right up against her ear. Then it stopped. 'Ow..' Moments later, the woman's torso sat straight in the air; made possible by a fist grabbing a thick lock of sweat-drenched hair. "Maria Wright," an unknown male mused. "Amazing. Simply amazing. You humans are something else. You people have my regards. We took so much time setting this up. It was so elaborate, yet still, someone, somehow, survived. Incredible." The man took a moment to sigh in muted elation, then continued on. "Did you not meet Gunther then? Our muscle man? He has an odd attraction...to throwing rocks...I don't ask."

'Throwing rocks..? '

The woman hacked a raspy cough, finally finding remnants of a haggard voice. "You're worse than dirt. You double-crossed us," she spat. "Nonsense," was the quick and cool reply. "We were just having a little fun with you folks. Everything is all in good order, Miss Wright. I just hope your commanders keep their part of the deal."

"You...what do you mean..it's all in..good...order..," she choked. Tears welled up, spurred on by the return of sealed emotions, breaking free of their shackles, to once more whirl inside her. "Where are they?"

"Hell if I know. They could be anywhere. Though I'm sure you won't have to go looking for them. I'm pretty sure they'll be the ones looking for you." Caleb then released his hold, sending the commander's body crashing into the ground. "When you get back, tell them to release Xeno. We don't want him to miss the "Welcome Home" party that's being thrown. Now Maria, I certainly enjoyed the talk, but we really must get going. See you around."

Epilogue

Open Plains Just Outside Walls
green_mountain_grasslands_1280x800.jpg

Five bodies laid in a tidy circle, somewhere in the middle of a vast, temperate grassland. Though, these bodies were markedly different from the inhabitants living behind the walls of humanity far-off in the distance. These bodies were large, they were muscled, and they were skinless. They were those of Titans. Despite the figures differing from one to another, each with their own distinct set of physical characteristics, they all had one special thing in common: a conscious.

That's it for the RP. I thank all who have participated from the bottom of my heart! Though there was short pause, everybody came back, and it was able to pull through. For that, I give my thanks again. It was truly a pleasure having, working, and writing with you all!

Now, onto the ending. Everyone who died is now a Titan. Though that was the last scene, if you so choose, feel free to make one final post about your character and their thoughts on what happened; as well as their views on this new-found power.

Tip: Titans' bodies usually reflect that of their owner's (Tall, Thick, Flexible), so feel free to make it how you envision the form to be.

That's it! Thank you! Fin.
