The Imperial Palace
The Kelaran Imperium was an institution that had been around since its founding after the events of the Great Demon War thousands of years before. It stretched for thousands of miles from the heavy and hot sands of the Cinbar Desert in the South west, to it's frozen tundras in the North, to it's tropical islands to the south. But now, the times of long rule are being to show the cracks that have been forming for a long time. Having to govern such large stretches of land has allowed corruption to seep into those cracks and create divides. Bandits, warlords and monsters have taken root to carve out sections of the Empire as parts of their own. And even their hostile neighbor, The Red Goblin Empire, has begun to prepare, using the excuse of fighting the resurgence of The League of Pirates and kingdoms to the far East. But anyone with any knowledge of the Empire knows that it is a flimsy pretense and that they are truly preparing to strike at The Kelaran Imperium.Emperor Titus Secundus Corvus was beginning to feel every bit of the sixty years of his life. It was not that he was in poor physical shape. In fact, far from it. He was still in peak physical condition and a mighty warrior who had lead the battles on the front line against the last incursion by the Empire some 40 years ago. With the full might of the Imperium behind him, he had made sure that the Empire had not made it past the Border castles. But he knew that the Empire was not resting on it's laurels and there has been word of the new machines that are being created for war and tested out on lesser countries.
He was feeling the weight from the darkness that had been seeping into his lands. Ones that snuck up on him while he governed the capital, making decisions for the whole Imperium but leaving day to day dealings with elected officials and other nobles. That in some cases had been a mistake as evidenced by the rise in banditry and those that call themselves warlords.
The time had come to do something. He would gather up those that wished to help the Empire, those that had the might to succeed and those that merely wanted money and power. He would take all kinds as long as the Imperium could be saved and brought back to full strength before the inevitable war broke out. The Emperor issued a proclamation on that day asking for the aid of heroes in the Imperium's time of need in exchange for riches beyond compare along with titles and land including the power that comes with it.
Those that wished to come, would arrive soon enough in front of the Imperial Palace for processing and instruction where soldiers would help direct the crowds and prevent fights from breaking out.
Gilgamesh Tower was a place of learning for those that could afford it. Teaching from both magical and martial went on under it's tall roof. The elite were groomed for their lot in life and the powerful gained more power and skill. Those that could afford it were taught by the best such as Sildar Evans. A handsome teacher and having the luxury of working there for twenty two years, he is among one of the most popular teachers.
Inside Sildar's classroom, two girls towards the back were whispering, trying to be as discreet as possible. Both of them wore the normal school outfits of gold and silver, but one of the girls had a red ribbon in her hair and the other wore multiple fancy rings on her fingers. The red ribbon girl spoke up first, "Isn't Sildar so dreamy?"
"Definitely, even more so than Rikon." Rickon being one of the newer and younger teachers that had recently started within Gilgamesh Tower. He taught martial studies, particularly of the sword and bow variety.
"I love that way that is body moves when he flourishes as he teaches from the board." The other girl giggled lightly.
Two boys towards the middle left of the class were also having a whispered conversation, "Did you hear that the Emperor is promising massive riches and lands to anyone that can fight off a few bandits."
"Yeah, I think that we could do that. And then we'll get super famous too."

The slums of the The Grand City of Telaran were larger than some cities that existed within the Imperium. When you had a large bastion of civilization, it was inevitable that the dregs of society would end up somewhere. And they tended to end up here. But within that section, society flourished in its own way, living by their own rules. The soldiers rarely patrolled this section unless major trouble was stirred up that they needed to either investigate or put down.
Around the center of the slums was a major well that was where any sort of major proclamations were given and considering all the buzz that was being generated, it must be a good one. A squirrelly looking man in brown robes with a shaved head was flanked by two heavily armed men with sharp blades. The bald man spoke up in a loud voice, "To all those that wish to partake, his Imperial Emperorship is offering full pardons to those that wish it as well as massive riches and land to those that can solve the Imperium's issues with the rise in bandits, warlords and monsters. Report to the castle gates for further instructions."
With that, he stepped down and left a stunned crowd that began to speak loudly amongst themselves. Was this true? Could this be the break that they were looking for? The way out of this poverty striken lifestyle?
The marketplace was all a hustle and bustle from the middle of the day with people needing to always buy things from the heart of the Empire. Even people that lived within the large city, they always needed something. Especially since the city was one that rarely fully slept and there was always something to do. Here in the marketplace near the front gates of the city, there was much traffic coming and going. No one questioned any of the various monstrous races that came and went. All were welcome within the Imperium. Even if not everyone was always welcoming. It was long ago decreed that all could find a place within the Imperium, a shelter from the harsher lands and people that existed elsewhere within the world.
Horses and carts were being pulled on by with various types of goods and even goblins and bugbears seemed to find places to exist side by side with humans and elves.
Conversations could be overheard throughout the hustle and bustle as town criers spouted the news that many people were interested in. The Emperor was offering large amounts of riches and land to those that could rid the Imperium of the growing number of bandits, warlords and great powerful beasts that lurk around. It seemed many people were interested and some already began to funnel towards the Imperial Palace to find out more.
There were many boats of varying sizes located in the docks. Large merchant boats with big crews that loaded and unloaded merchandise, smaller shops for pleasure outing and medium sized ships that transported people to the nearby Aesir Islands to visit the city of Terminus and it's beaches. It was a hustle and bustle among the docks with people going this way and that, trying to get the days work done as quickly as possible.
The water was calm and the winds were light and breezy, feeling good on anyone's face. People talked amongst themselves until the weather took a turn for the colder. They began to look towards the open waters and a recognizable visage could be seen.
The Blackwater, one of the most feared pirate ships on the open ocean. Everyone was soon quick to finish up what they were doing and find someplace else to be. No one wanted to be there when that ship pulled into dock.
Some papers from a nearby newsboy detailing the Emperor's proclamations were scattered on the docks in the hurried rush to leave.
The barracks was a hustle and bustle of activity. With the proclamation that the Emperor had ordered, they were all very busy getting ready to maintain order. And with all the soon to be groups of adventurers, members of the military are going to be assigned to assist.
While Auric had been waiting on a nearby bench for assignment, a large Kainar in full plate walked up to him . Her grizzled snout betrayed her canine features, but she wore a kind, but stern face.
"I am Seargent Linore. I will be assigning you to an experienced soldier for this upcoming detail. Follow me recruit." She began to walk deeper into the barracks where others were training in preparation for the major event that is going to be happening. Her full plate clanked and clashed as she walked and stopped short of Olivia Friar.
"Olivia, this young recruit shall be your charge during this assignment." She stepped aside to show her Auric. "You'll educate him on the ropes while you report to the Imperial Palace for your group assignment." She smiled a toothy grin. "You're going to finally be able to help the Imperium like you always wanted kiddo."
