Malibu
Unicorn Princess
It's been a little over a year since I first joined RPN and introduced myself. But during that time, my life was in a constant state of flux and in so much upheaval and I didn't really have the time to dedicate myself to roleplaying on this site like I wanted to. So, now that my life is (hopefully) more settled, I thought it only fitting to reintroduce myself, especially after all the changes to the site and the sparkly new things! Some things have changed in my life and others haven't, so I figured it was probably a good time to reintroduce myself. So welcome to part two of my introduction, and I look forward to getting to know more people here!
For starters, hi! My name is Malea or Malibu on here. As an explanation on the username, when I was around nine or ten years old, I insisted on having everyone call me Mallie. My dad then started calling me Mallie-boo, which eventually just got shorthanded into Malibu. I am not nor have I ever been from California and, unless I find a job in San Francisco, I really have no desire to live there (no offense to all you wonderful Californians!). Anyways, you can call me Lea or Mali or whatever else strikes your fancy; I answer to pretty much anything.
At the time of writing this, I am a month away from turning twenty-five and I am not prepared to be a quarter of a century old. Even though I'm in my twenties, I still feel like I have the mentality of a six-year-old girl, the body of a ninety-year-old, and the maturity of a twelve-year-old boy. I'm a mess of contradictions, I know. I'm also a non-identical twin. I grew up in Washington state in a small city just a few minutes south of the Canadian border on a farm of sorts. I spent the better part of my undergrad years in Seattle and I love that city and the state of Washington more than most things in this world. I'm pale-skinned, green-eyed, and naturally a blonde but I like to hide that fact beneath hair dye.
I finished my B.A. in December of last year and have subsequently relocated to Colorado and attended a master's program and received my Master's certificate in Publishing. My dream career is one in the publishing industry, ideally in editing. While I'm loving living in this beautiful state, I'm also very excited to begin looking for jobs in my field in New York and starting a new life there (though the actual when of that is a bit dubious at this point). I love learning and if I could afford to be a full-time student, I would so do it. I just love being around academia!
I am obsessed with (in no particular order) unicorns, glitter, cream cheese, candles, fairies, tea, nail polish, wine, otters, poppies, Christmas lights, mermaids, cute socks, peanut butter, dolphins, eyeliner, books, superhero movies, dogs, blankets, scarves, cake, pineapples, stuffed animals, lipstick, owls, fuzzy socks, coloring books, tights, forget-me-nots, roller coasters, rainbows, crime documentaries, pasta, American football, hiking, opals, and boots (among other things, of course). I don't like chocolate, coffee (ironic, given I'm from Seattle), wearing pants, feet, and spiders. I'm a Christian, lactose intolerant, and, yes, I do use a neti pot for seasonal allergies.
I love listening to music and attending concerts, though I've been able to do the latter less and less as I've had more bills to pay. I don't necessarily have a preferred genre, but I do have genres that I listen to more than others (mainly alternative rock, alternative pop, indie rock, classic rock, Top 40, and rock). I'm always open to hearing some music recommendations since I like to be diverse in my tastes! Some of my favorite bands/artists include, but are not limited to: Relient K, Cartel, The Cab, Paramore, Ellie Goulding, Starset, Owl City, Breathe Carolina, Hawk Nelson, All Time Low, SafetySuit, MercyMe, Forever the Sickest Kids, 30 Seconds to Mars, A Skylit Drive, Demi Lovato, Justin Nozuka, Lifehouse, We Are The In Crowd, The Spill Canvas, The Summer Set, Parachute, RED, Kelly Clarkson, The Eagles, Backstreet Boys, Imogen Heap, Blackmill, Mutemath, Fall Out Boy, Ingrid Michaelson, Flyleaf, Anberlin, Fiona Apple, He is We, Justin Timberlake, Lady Antebellum, Lindsey Stirling, Jessie J, Panic! at the Disco, and Skillet (again, among others).
Animals are one of my favorite things in the world. When I was younger, I lived with five dogs, three cats, a turtle, two love birds, two hamsters, a handful of fish, five horses, three cows, two goats, a pig, a handful of chickens, and four siblings (those count, right?). Now that I've moved out, I don't have any animals of my own, but I love pet sitting and loving on other people's animals.
I absolutely love to read and about ninety-five percent of my free time is spent reading. I'm a bit of a YA junkie, but I also love reading biographies and memoirs and have branched out in the past few years to some adult fiction and fantasy. I do have quite an extensive list of books that I count among my favorites, but I'll try to keep it briefer than my music list. I absolutely love The Great Gatsby, The Mortal Instruments and all subsequent prequels and sequels, the Spellcaster series by Claudia Gray (and almost anything she writes, really), the Graceling series, To Kill a Mockingbird, basically anything by Meg Cabot, and Atlas Shrugged. There are so many more I could list here, but I'll try not to bore you!
I enjoy television, but I'd rather spend my downtime reading rather than watching TV. I have a giant list of things to watch on Netflix that I may never actually get around to watching, but I'm trying! I do love medical dramas as well as crime documentaries and I'm also super obsessed with Say Yes to the Dress if that tells you anything about my taste in television. I also love cartoons and kid's shows and have really loved My Little Pony and Gravity Falls in recent years.
The boy in my life is kind of a big deal. His name is Adam and we've been friends since the first grade, dating since 2008, and engaged since 2012 (no, you aren't reading that wrong). Unfortunately, our academic pursuits have forced us to be long-distance for the past seven years or so of our relationship, but I still think he is the most incredible, generous, patient, and loving person and I cherish the time we do actually get to spend together. He's studying to be a doctor and working so hard to achieve his dreams and goals and I honestly could not be more proud of him. I just really like this kid, okay?
So now that you've gotten through that massive block of boring, insignificant text all about me as a person (bless you for sticking around so long), let me tell you a little about my roleplaying background and interests!
I'm not new to roleplaying necessarily, though this particular form of thread roleplaying is something I'm still getting used to. I started writing in a roleplaying aspect when I was probably ten or eleven on Neopets back before the rules and advertisements became absolutely ridiculous (and if that doesn't date me, I don't know what else will). After that, I did e-mail roleplays for a while before there was a large chunk of time where I didn't do any sort of roleplaying. I bounced back and forth between a few sites dedicated to roleplaying and some sites that just had the option of roleplaying, but I never really got into them. I've found a few sites since then that I've enjoyed and I'm hoping to count RPN among them now that I'm able to actually dedicate some time to roleplaying. I really want to grow as a writer and I'm hoping that this site will help me in that.
As for what I play, I tend to favor ideas with some sort of supernatural or fantasy edge. I love low fantasy and urban fantasy. I also don't mind slice-of-life, modern, or even school roleplays, though those particular genres are harder to sell me on or keep me interested. I love romance in any way, shape, or form, but also love roleplays where you really explore a character's motivations and psyche. I've never been able to get into sci-fi as a genre, but I'm not opposed to giving it a try if there's a plot or idea that really excites me. I don't know anything about Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder or any of those sort of roleplaying methods and neither am I super into fandom roleplays (though I'm not opposed to roleplays inspired by or based on fandoms). Hopefully that gives y'all a taste of what I do and don't like. All that being said, if you've got an idea and you think you'd like to write with me, don't hesitate to approach me! I'm always open to at least hearing your idea, even if it's not something I think I'm up for.
Thank you for sticking around to listen to me babble on endlessly about myself. I hope you feel much more enlightened and I look forward to meeting you!
In short, you're a cool person, and I guess I'm sort of a cool person, so we should be friends!
Any questions? Ask away!
