Biography
The elder sister to two massive twin brothers, Judyth would've been heir to the Last Hearth if not for her brothers being born. Her mother wasn't the healthiest of women and, after giving birth to Judyth, another child wasn't really expect. Female or not, Judyth was raised as the the future heir to the Umber House. From fighting to court intricacies, from reading to riding, Judyth learned it all. Then when she was she was 6, her role changed from potential heir to teaching the potential heirs. Judith didn't mind as it gave her much more freedom and she loved her brothers. An only child's life was a dull one, after all.
As the eldest child, Judyth Umber had a strong sense of responsibility. Much of her childhood was spent helping their nanny take care of her brothers. Then, when they were old enough, playful spars between sibblings were common. Children born to the Last Hearth had to be strong enough to defend against wildling invaders and any other enemies that came from beyond the wall after all. Judyth's wins became less and less as the boys grew bigger and stronger, though she was still faster and more skillful. By the time they were 10, they were already bigger than her and started to learn how to hunt. By then, Judyth was 16 and of marriageable age and her parents tried to find a suitable spouse for her, though-- much to their chagrin--all the Stark boys of fitting age were either married or betrothed. A suitable situation for Judyth since she had already become infatuated with a young member of the Night's watch by then.
16 year old Clovis Flint, the youngest son of House Flint, had managed to piss his parents off so bad they'd sent him off to the Night's Watch. As the only boy her age to have beaten her in a fight, they became best friends. Often went on adventures together. Judyth would've followed Clovis to the night's watch if she could, but, alas, being a woman, she had to settle for bringing in snacks and gifts every so often. Due to Last Hearth being one of the more northernmost houses, just short of the Night Watch castles, the Umber family were frequent donators to the Night's Watch. Her father was also friends with the Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, so she got a lot of leeway for visiting, though he he called her a vile temptress every time she showed up. A horrible beguiler for his men. Indeed, Judyth's arrival generally heralded a bit of chaos as horny, lonely men flocked to impress. Eventually some clued in that she only had an interest for Clovis. Others still tried. However, one day, Clovis was sent on reconnaissance mission with some of his Brothers of he Watch and hadn't been heard from since. Months passed until, eventually, his body was found and ravens carrying the news of his death spread.
Devastated, Judyth lost interest in boys, and began to focus on a future without Clovis, who was the only boy she'd intended to marry. When she wasn't hunting with her father, or answering the call against wildling raids, she interacted with those who worked their family's lands and learned how to manage a household. She tended to the sheep, shoveled snow, and helped out where she could. Out in the colds of the North, rich or poor, everyone had to help out against the coming Winter if they wanted to survive. Not that the Umbers were an especially rich noble house to begin with. Yet her mother was adamant in finding her a husband. From the Maester her mother hired, Judyth learned music, art, history, law, philosophy, without much protest. Anything to keep her mind from wandering to dangerous places. Even if she wasn't especially good at any of the subjects, a lady ought know the basics, or so her mother insisted. How else was she supposed to find a good man?
Granted, she was certain her father and brothers played a large part in scaring many suitors away.
Judyth found her greatest joy in interacting with the merchants that arrived along the bay of Seals. She liked listening to their stories and dreamed of have an adventure all on her own. At 22, when her brothers (Jon and Jarl) were old enough to take charge of the Last Hearth on their own, she went with a family friend, Dalton Reed, on his excursion to Essos. It was the the most enriching experience of her life. She ended staying a little longer than intended to work in the Iron Bank of Braavos, learning more about finance, and discovering her knack for numbers. Perhaps it was because her family had never been especially rich, but Judyth found the concept of using money to make money very thrilling. At 24, she moved back to the North, bought her own ship (The Giant's Lover), hired a hardy crew of Norhernmen, and started to trade wares. Mostly furs and jewlery, though she sometimes deals in weapons and livestock.
Other
She won't marry someone unless they beat her in a fight (more in memory of Clovis than caring about the physical strength of her partner). Even then, they'd probably have to go through her brothers and her father to become welcomed in the Umber house. So most men keep away.
Her talents lie in finance, military strategy, riding, and swordsmanship.
She stands 5'9'' tall and can hold her liquor fairly well.
She knows many merchants in White Harbor and has an amiable relationship with with Manderly house, in addition to connections in Essos and the Iron Bank.
A good portion of her funds go to the Umber House and the Night's Watch.
Umber motto: Unfettered we rise
Biscuit
Gingerbread...it takes a culmination of spices to bring out her flavor.
