Fantasy Let's Kill The Demon King!

Gossip

Not Afraid of God; Afraid of Man
OOC Thread

Demon King Online, a new virtual reality multiplayer game that has grown sharply in popularity since its release a little more than a month ago. Praised for its depth and incredibly realistic NPCs, the game has been sold nearly two billion copies and now enjoy a playerbase from all over the world. As a clever foresight from the team, a top notch translating program has made it possible for all these players to interact without worry for culture or language, furthering the game’s appeal to its audience.

For your own reasons, you decided to try DKO out today and bought the necessary equipment and software, eager to start. Laying down on your bed for the night as was the usual for such game, your put your game helmet upon your head and started your virtual adventure.

Silence and pitch black darkness met you for a moment, before a soft light started to shine down at your feet. While a peaceful looking moonlit scene formed around you, a soft voice reached your ears; that voice seemed to emanate from nowhere at all and, while soft, spoke with a strange monotone:

“Welcome to Demon King Online. Please stay still while scanning procedures occurs.”

As soon as the words reached your ears did a soft wind ruffle your clothes, the breeze twirling around you for a moment before leaving you alone. A clear chime sounded then, and the voice was back with the same tone as before.

“Scan complete. Please state your name, desired age, and gender. All other status will be earned through your adventure.”

Silence again, but forms materialized before you; they all looked quite like you, but some were younger, some stockier or taller, and even a few were of the opposite gender - wait, one didn’t seem to have any gender at all!

There you can adjust your avatar to be slightly different from your character - this is mainly for aesthetics.

Koizumi Sora/Nyx
Sora took a deep breath, passively enjoying the ambiance of the moonlit scene that seemed to be the equivalent of a menu screen. So, it does allow you to change gender... Great, I can take on the character I really wanted to. Although, acting like Mizuki would likely be just as fun. Ah, skin color might be an issue, but fine tuning is something that takes time after all. I'll worry about that when I can.

"Name: Nyx, Age: 22, Gender: Female." He stated the data with certainty the moment he was done enjoying the scene - it was a character he had lovingly created after all, he knew all of his creations deeply without need to stir his memory. Hours thinking of how to perfect each piece into the most imperfect beauty, such a thing is not easily forgotten as an artist. Income? Money? That's something that's irrelevant as long as it's there and he can continue his passions.

Atticus Janvier.

Atticus gazed upon the varying figures with a bored gaze. There was no need for these silly games of pretend with himself. Personal integrity, after all, was the fastest way to a strong argument and an honest interaction with others. Dishonesty was the path to crime. There would be no need to change himself. Not today, in any case - or, he suspected, any other day, until the changes became more practical rather than just a case of changing identity - something he wasn't interested in. "Janvier. Twenty-one years of age. Male." His words came out in a bit of a slur as he tiredly stared - perhaps gesturing slightly - toward the avatar that looked most like himself. Atticus frowned somewhat at the older and younger versions. An easy way for all sorts of crimes to occur. Troublesome. He shook his head - no use worrying too much about criminal activity in this world of make-believe. Not now, in any case.

Marcus stared at all the different customizations available before him. He had bought the game out of curiosity and didn't exactly how far he wanted his customization to go, before deciding to just stick to his normal appearance. Being mute had it's occasional hiccups in terms of ease of access but Marcus was used to it, manually tapping his customization choice and keying in his name and age.

He didn't have much of an idea what he really wanted to do in the game, apart from just following the storyline written for it. He hoped to at least be able to interact with other players but there were definitely going to be complications and misunderstandings. At the worst case, he could always try to be a solo player like many others he read before.

Mira materialized into the virtual area and immediately scrutinized the surrounding scenery, her lips curling downward into a slight frown. The graphics were more than acceptable, they were superb, but she was expecting something more riveting than a moonlit night. Perhaps she had set her expectations too high. Oh well.

She observed her doppelgangers with an inquisitive look. At least the multiple options for her appearance was somewhat amusing, although the stockier version of herself caused her frown to deepen. "The name's Mira. The age is..." Her voice trailed off as she considered her options. The mystical voice asked for desired age, not actual age. She didn't want to appear too young or else other player's might not take her seriously, and she certainly didn't want to appear old. "Age is 19. And I'm a female, duh." She said finally, choosing the avatar that looked exactly like herself. The original was always the best.

emilia aokiEXVIUS
Emilia slammed the door to her room shut, practically jumping up and down as she tore the packaging away from the game that had come in the mail today. If any of her friends from school saw her now they'd probably be shocked. She never got this excited about anything they showed her. They'd probably say, "but it's just a game." They just didn't understand. But who cared about them, right now it was time. to. PLAY!

She jumped onto her bed with the VR headset already on her head, and as soon as her body stopped bouncing up and down and she made herself comfortable, she pressed the button. Everything faded as the game loaded up for the first time. She'd familiarized herself with the hardware before her game had come in, so she didn't panic at the momentary lack of sensory information. Panic? The only thing she was feeling just then was giddy. The first moments of loading up a brand new game. It was just the best feeling!

The darkness receded as a shining moon appeared high up above, followed by the night sky and stars, and all around the game's world rendered as the moonlight fell upon it. As far as first impressions went, DKO was not disappointing. "If that's how this game does a loading screen, I can't wait to see the actual gameplay," Emilia spoke to no one.

As if in response, a soft monotone voice spoke, “Welcome to Demon King Online. Please stay still while scanning procedures occurs.”

Was that the voice of the interface? It didn't sound quite human, but that might have been intended. If the game had something to say while players were talking they'd want to be able to tell the interface from their party members.

“Scan complete. Please state your name, desired age, and gender. All other status will be earned through your adventure.”

Emilia's excitement had to have her smiling like a fool beneath her headset. And then the avatar presets loaded in. "Oh ho ho! What do we have here?" She inspected the one immediately in front of her. It was, well... her. Ew. Did she really look like that? She was so pale! And short! And her hair and eyes were such boring colors! Emilia quickly moved on to the next avatar. It was nearly the same as the last, but it looked like it had been aged up by a few years. There was still nothing there... That was just depressing. Insulted by a game interface. She moved on to the next. Aged down version. It was just her but an inch shorter. "Alright game, I get it. You don't need to keep trying to tell me I look like a kid!"

She skipped the next few avatars, just subtle variations of the default. An extra kilo or so added or taken away, some added muscle, and then finally what she'd been hoping for. There was the option for her to choose a male avatar. He was beautiful. Basically identical to Emilia in every way, the only way she was able to tell it was supposed to be the male version was because it had shorter hair. Where her hair hell all the way down her back, his stopped around the neck, with a few longer strands falling down across his chest. She'd have to be careful not to fall in love with her male self.

Oh right, she still had to give the game her answers. "My name is Exvius. I am sixteen years old, and I am male." Exvius. It took the E from Emilia, the XVI from her age, and the US to make it sound cooler. She was glad the game was apparently going to allow her to play as a male. She hated having to play a girl. It made people think she might be a girl IRL, and if she let slip that she actually was... it annoyed her just remembering it. She'd ended up leaving more than one game just because of guys harassing her online. Playing as a guy was so much better, and there was the added benefit of getting to spend hours staring at a really nice looking boy. Not that she'd ever admit to that though.

The interface let out that chime sound again, which she supposed meant it had accepted her answers, and her excitement about starting a new game came rushing back to her.

Stefan H. Morin/Nocuous

The first thing he'd noticed about the game was the moonlit scene that had formed around him. It was very simple, but looked beautiful with the extremely high-end graphics this game possessed. Stefan liked it a lot. From what he could tell, this game he'd be playing would be having some very amazing scenery to look at. Which would make it perfect for him to get some new inspiration from for the art he would be making soon enough, if he didn't get addicted to playing this one game that is.

He did what the monotone voice told him to, staying still until it spoke once again. Multiple variations of himself then appeared before him, each with different builds, some were even the opposite gender and one of them looked to be androgynous. Though if there was something similar between all of them, it was his messy hair and black, expressionless eyes. Stefan looked through the many different versions, the skinnier, the taller, stockier, and just at everything. Even finding a version of him that he considered adorable.

After a bit of browsing, he just then remembered that he needed to tell the voice what his desired name, age and gender is. The name was fairly obvious, that being his usual user name, Nocuous. Age however, was something he had to ponder on for a bit. Whether or not to use his true age, or something that was much older. Ultimately deciding he should use his real age. Now for the gender, the easiest of the three. He went with male. "Name, Nocuous. Age, 16. Gender, Male." And now, it was time for him to wait.

Azure Creek:

Azure materialized into the virtual world, looking around at the landscape. It seemed to be quite peaceful to be in the space. An entire space of night, A cool midnight breeze flowing through her white clothing as she had yet to customize anything. She looked up at the models in front of her as she customized. As she was getting near the end of her customization, she saw a tattoo section. She saw A dragon tattoo that went down the right arm and curve down onto her chest. She chose that one and confirmed her customization. "Name; Azure. Gender; Female. Age; 17." She said as she clicked confirm and her body changed to her avatar she had created.

Raiyan Faine

Raiyan sat at the end of his bed holding the vr helmet in his hands as he stared at the blank visor. This was his chance, his chance to say screw you to his fear and finally begin to stick up for himself and others. After all if he could slay monsters in a game that was suppose to feel like real life then he could stand up form himself in the real world... Right? Oh man this was a bad idea.

Shaking his head to clear it of worries he sighed and turned the helmet around. "Here we go." Murmured Raiyan as he raised the helmet to his head and slowly placed it on. Keeping up his temporarily confidence he switched it on and began the game.

“Welcome to Demon King Online. Please stay still while scanning procedures occurs.”

Alright so far so good...

“Scan complete. Please state your name, desired age, and gender. All other status will be earned through your adventure.”

As soon as the voice stopped talking a selections of avatars who all resembled him in different ways appeared before him. There was even a female one, weird. Focusing on the first one to appear he nodded his head, Rolling with hi default appearance would do. "Name is Axious, age is 19, and gender is male" He told the computer. There was a slight pause and then his clothes changed, guess the his clothes are the only thing that needed changing if he went with his normal body.

Ian Dimare

As Ian placed the helmet on his head, he wasn't expecting much. He had never used anything like this before in his life; all previous games of his had been at least one console generation behind. To think he would be diving into a complete virtual world. To put it lightly, he didn't know what to expect. Snapping the helmet into place, he stretched out on his queen sized bed, lying down in the most comfortable way possible.

As soon as the game began, Ian's jaw dropped. This was more than he ever could have possibly imagined. Rows of dopplegangers stood before him, each with minute differences to his actual self. Some taller, some shorted, some more brawny, and one that was... A girl? He couldn't help but admire for a moment. He had never thought about what his real self would look like as a woman. Can't say I'm disappointed, he thought.

In the end, he chose a body identical to his own. After all, he had no reason to hide himself. Though, it would be awkward if someone recognized him in the crowd. Before he confirmed his choice, he took some more time to stare into the scenery. It was simple, yes, but it was beautiful. Nothing like this in the city., that's for sure.

With a light grin, he finally spoke to the narrator. "My name is Ian. Age 18, gender male." As light began to consume him, he couldn't help but feel his adrenaline rush throughout his body. Let's get this show started!

No sooner did you make your choice that a long shiver ran through your spine. As your skin broke down in goosebumps, any change decided were made and roughly spun clothes along with simple leather sandals covered your body and feet.

Gradually, your nose caught the scent of burning wood, your surrounding blurring from their peaceful beginnings. The voice made itself know one last time before all turned black again, your chosen name whispered along with the simple explanation of what would be a tutorial for the game proper.

“You will be enrolled in the militia of a small village named Rushen. This village is on the outskirts of the kingdom of Ferdinam, one of the main human sieges of power in the world of Heim. Through your stay there, you will learn the basics of survival, combat and exploring in DKO. Please be aware that DKO is a combat-heavy game, and that the world you will enter will be harsh. Please be careful and kindly follow the lessons given to you during this tutorial. Good luck.”

The voice faded completely then, and as if coming out of a daydream you found yourself in a busy square in what did appear to be a modest village. Half a dozen straw-roofed houses surrounded you as you stood near a crudely made well. The moon was still shining down on you from overhead, but you could see dawn peeking the horizon behind the distant mountains. Smelling the burning wood you noticed earlier, you noticed a few braziers placed in the few areas where nothing was in danger of bursting into flames. With those in place, the resulting lighting provided in the square and the adjacent street was brighter than simple moonlight. From the square, four earth roads lead to the outskirts of the village and you guessed that there was no more than twenty buildings overall in the whole settlement.

Around you, various forms appeared out of thin air; fellow player, most likely. While this appearing from thin air business should be strange, some seemed not to notice it at all, showing themselves as probable NPCs. One such NPC was a sturdy looking guard with sharp blue eyes and a severe scowl on his rugged face. As if knowing when he was spotted, he suddenly yelled orders in a deep voice that spoke of a good acquaintance with hard liquor.

“You there, recruits! Come over there and gather up!”

Waiting for his orders to be followed, the guardsman stood near the well while an old woman and a young man pushing a cart full of basic equipment made their way to his side. After a while, a fairly sizable crowd had gathered around the trio and, soon, the guard was speaking again.

“Good! From now on you are part of Rushen’s militia. Be proud of your choice, but never forget that we’re protecting the village against savage monsters and foul demons. We must be prepared, and we must stick together! I want you to gear up, form groups of four to six soldiers, and line up before Elder Gelena for your assigned patrol area and guard shift. Be sharp, and keep an eye out!”

These words seemed to announce the reappearance of the voice from earlier, for no sooner did the man finish his speech did you hear the first of what seemed to be tutorial hints.

“DKO is a realistic game, but you are allowed some privileges not found in a normal life. First would be the Inventory, a space of your own where you can stock up to twenty different items without burdening yourself. Please do not abuse this system, and do enjoy these privileges as they are meant to be; a gift. To see and interact with your inventory, simply think or say ‘Inventory’ and put any object you possess into one of the available spaces shown to you.”

As if summoned as an example, the young man showed his wares to the crowd; there were basic leather armor, unlit torches, knives, staves, short swords, bows , arrows and even what seemed to be medicinal herbs could be found in the cart. Nearby, who you guessed to be Elder Gelena, the old woman from earlier, looked on impassively.

“Your current objective is:
  • Gather your starting equipment.
  • Form your first party.
  • Get assigned a post by Elder Gelena.”
Well, it seemed the voice would not leave you, after all...

Raiyan Faine- Axious
Raiyan was caught of guard when his vision began to blurr. Whoa whats going on! is that smoke I smell?! he tired to move around bu the magic voice caught his attention. So the tutorial is going to be serving in a militia? I guess you might rank up in the military after words or something like that. Did that voice just say harsh? wait a minute what have I gotten my self into?! He didn't have time to finish his internal protest as his vision cleared.

When he could finally see again he noted that he was in the middle of a fantasy style village. To his left and right more people appeared out of thin air, most likely other players. When the guard called out to him Axious followed the group over to the guard and listened to the man. Suddenly the voice spoke up again and he listened carefully, so they did have access to an inventory, that would come in handy.

He looked around at the other recruits and waited for someone to step forwards but no one did. Deciding to be the first one to get his stuff Raiyans stepped up to the cart. From the cart he took some leather armor, A short sword, a knife, unlit torch, and some medical herbs. Deciding it was best to ignore the bow and staff he stepped out of the way of the cart and the other recruits.
Alright here we go. Inventory. A small arrays of empty squares appeared before him and Raiyan looked at them. Slowly he put the torch and herbs inside the inventory then closed it. Quickly he equipped his armor and the short sword along with hanging the dagger on his waist in case he needed it. Now he had to find a group.

Stefan H. Morin/Nocuous

The scent of burning wood, Nocuous' first thoughts of what might be happening would simply be a house burning down. Another guess would be a fireplace or furnace, or even some kind of camp. And once again, the voice had returned. Now stating the current setting, a small village named Rushen around the outskirts of the world. He was to be enrolling into the militia of this village, and Nocuous' stay here would be the tutorial, and that it would be including the basics of survival, the combat, which is something he'd been looking forward to, and exploring.

Greeted by the sights of this village, all he could think was how realistic everything looked. The attention to detail everything had was amazing in his eyes. The moon could be seen overhead, and a faint hint of dawn could be seen coming from over the horizon and peeking through tall mountains. Once again, he smelled the burning wood from earlier. Noticing now where it had come from, those being the braziers placed around the village.

Soon after, multiple other players had began to appear out of thin air. Nobody had seemed to notice, making him presume they were just NPCs. One of them appeared to be a blue-eyed guard, who started to shout at them to come to where he is. "Must be the start of this tutorial," he muttered to himself as he made his way to the spot the guard had indicated along with multiple other people. The guard once again began to speak, saying that we should be proud of our choice to join the military of this place. Then were told to get geared up and line up to Elder Gelena.

The voice had come out of nowhere once again, now telling him about the inventory, how to bring it up and to not abuse it, however it is one actually abuses such a thing. Now, new objectives have appeared, voiced by the unknown voice. "Gather equipment, form party and get assigned a post... alright," he muttered to himself. Nocuous looked onto the cart with a look clearly expressing contemplation. What he should pick as a weapon, and what he should be bringing to this.

As he continued to think, one of the other players had decided to be the first to take pieces of equipment when no one else did. Stefan, or Nocuous now, still thought of what he should choose. A stave would have great range, but not as much power as the shortsword. And with the shortsword, there was cutting power but it sacrifices range. Then there was the bow, a ranged weapon. Where he could pick enemies off one by one from a distance, but have no real way of fending off when near them or when running out of arrows. And the knives, of course. Short but can cut and be useful, plus easy to carry.

After a bit of thinking, Stefan had decided to take two weapons. One for melee and ranged. The bow and arrow, and the knife. As well as the basic leather armor, an unlit torch and medicinal herbs. "First task done... Inventory." Grey boxes popped up in front of him, and Nocuous placed the unlit torch and medicinal herbs inside. Then he put on the leather armor. Hi put his bow onto a holster, and knife into a pocket just in case he ran out of arrows. His arrows were in his quiver. Closing off the inventory, now he needs to do the second task.

"Now to form a party... Who to pick?" Nocuous muttered to himself, looking to where the other people are. Noticing that most still haven't gotten the equipment, actually, it was only him and that one other guy now that he thought about it. So, considering how he knows only one other person with equipment, the pick was easy. That one guy. Looking around the see where he was, eventually spotting the guy. Usually he'd be a solo kind of player, but with the quest requesting a party, he couldn't ignore other people this time around.

Nocuous approached the other player with equipment, then asked if whether or not they wished to be part of his party. "Hey there, guy. You wanna make a party?" He asked rather casually.

Raiyan Faine- Axious

Axious waited and watched as other people for their equipment, of course it was only one other person who stepped up and grabbed anything. Considering that he still needed a teamate he was going to ask the other gay when suprisingly enough the gay came to him. No greeting or anything, this was a straight forward guy. Axious smiled at the man and held out his hand to the guy. "Sure. My name is Axious, its a pleasure to meet you."

Koizumi Sora/Nyx

A tutorial, huh... I hope the game isn't too combat heavy, that would delay crafting... Nyx's nose breathed in the smell of wood smoke, at first wondering if this was the type of game to drop you straight into the fray, but it didn't seem to be. It did, however, seem to be a cooperative tutorial - there were multiple people appearing out of nowhere that went ignored by some and others stared in wonder at. They were joining a militia of a small village, something that was a typical tutorial setup. By that process of events, the village gets destroyed, and the players are the only survivors aside from a few significant NPCs... It should be.

Nyx took one step forward, intending to go to the cart and pick a weapon as she had been told to by the voice, but that one step was all she took. Her face was one of appall, and something that was obvious right from the get go for a game that was praised for 'high levels of realism' was revealed to her.

My son... Is gone... And there's something else there...

In that instant, Koizumi Sora's dignity as a Japanese male was completely burned to ash and then dust by a possibility he had kept on pushing away - his gender, just as he had told the game, had actually turned female.

Nobody needs to know. Nobody will.

With that solid resolution in heart, Nyx continued on towards the cart, opening her inventory to store the items she grabbed. Three heavy knives that she had checked the balance of, four quivers, a bow, some leather armor, two torches, and several herbs. Unlike what normal people would, the only things Nyx put in her inventory were two quivers, the torches, and the herbs. Everything else went straight onto her body. The quivers were strapped to her left side, the knives looped through her belt, and of course the armor was equipped. The bow stayed in her hands, with no place to store it other than the inventory she was hesitant to use. I would've liked to take a staff, but I don't want to burden myself too much. The new body composition could make taking too many things awkward...

Instead of immediately searching for a party, Nyx went a bit away from the cart, hoping nobody would bother her. She took out a knife while looking at a specific spot in the dirt ground, wound back her right hand that was holding the knife, and threw it.

Nope. As I thought, it's going to take a bit to get used to.

She picked up the knife that hadn't gone blade first into the ground and tried again.

And again.

She kept on trying, until she could get all three knives to go blade first and sink into the ground. Meanwhile, she thought hard about what she should do for a party. Being in a group of males would be too embarrassing for her due to her circumstances, but it seemed unavoidable with the lack of girl characters and the size requirement for a party.

"Axious ey? Sounds similar to my name. The name's Nocuous, by the way. And it is a pleasure it ya as well," he said to his new party member, shaking Axious' hand as he held out his. Now, to find at least four more other players that are willing to join the two of them as a party for this one quest. There are many people to choose from in this crowd, but most haven't even gotten their equipment yet for whatever reason. Nocuous only guessed that mist were just too afraid despite all of this clearly not being real, or are just thinking of which to get. By the looks of it, someone else had finally gotten equipment as well. But Nocuous' mind was drifting to something else.

On the subject of the game's ability to make everything feel like real life, it was nesr exactly the same. It was like being in a lucid dream, except that they can't be the god of the world. Nocuous had never had a lucid dream before, only ever reading about them through articles on the internet, but just assumed that this is what it would feel like if he did have one. Everything was just so very real to him, especially the addition of smell. Unlike any other game he's played, he has never ever smelled anything coming from it whatsoever.

And regarding the different senses this game is capable of projecting, the one he was most looking forward to would be pain. Despite how strange that thought is, Nocuous wished to feel what it would be like to be hit in this game. Whether or not it would give a simulation of pain, or just drain our health bars like other MMORPG games he had played in the past. And if there is pain in this game, he would wna to feel it. Especially the feeling of dying, that is something that is needed for the pain experimentation he wishes to do now.

But getting back onto the original topic and not letting his thoughts get astray anymore, Nocuous now was just thinking of how to get more people to join them. There was the most obvious choice, which was to talk to the other players. Which was probably the most effective choice. Or wait until everyone else had finally gotten into their own littke parties and look for those that don't have one. Nocuous leaned to the former choice, as he felt it would make everything a bit easier. Or ask the only other member if he knew anyone here, which is what Nocuous shall do now because it's a viable choice.

There was that girl that just got equipment too, but it appears he lost her whilst he got lost in his thoughts about how pain was to be simulated. Turning from the crowd to Axious, he asked him, "Hey, Axious. Would there be a chance you know anybody from this crowd?"

Azure grabbed her starting gear and started to equip it. 'I thought this was a game where you could do things you wished... must be after the tutorial...' she thought. As she finished putting her equipment. She knew she would be more o use in a supporting field but that would have to wait for later. Until then, she would play along with the tutorial, then maybe go on her own. 'I can't fight by myself though... at least I don't believe so..' She thought before she headed towards the elder to see if anyone else was coming that wanted to be in a party. Although the way she was looking she seemed to be an NPC herself, which was sort of funny.

Ian cracked his neck and approached the selection of weapons. After thoroughly examining the contents, he as saddened to see that his weapon of choice, a greatsword, was not yet available. Oh well, he thought. Grabbing a short sword, a dagger, an unlit torch, and a few medicinal herbs, he equipped the gear and sighed. Glancing around the area, he decided to look for someone to fill a supporting role first, as he was planning on covering the majority of damage.

As with any online game, warriors were not at all uncommon. He'd have to move quick to find a supporting class if he wanted a good one. Approaching the elder, he spotted a girl who seemed to blend into the crowd. Wait, is that an NPC? No, that's a player... I think? Might as well find out.

As he approached the girl, he once again marveled at the realism of the fictional world around him. A gentle breeze blew past as the sounds of night time wildlife could be heard. Truly, this was more than he had ever dreamed of.

Finally reaching the girl, he could tell for certain that she was a player. Raising his hand at her, he tried his best to give her a friendly smile. Of course, growing up in New York, approaching people at random wasn't always the best idea. It wasn't something he did very often, to say the least. "Hey, I'm Ian. I was planning on playing a warrior class and need someone who could do support. Would you be interested? I won't let you down, I can promise that."

Party composition 101: always have a support character. Should she say yes, his next goal would be to find a rogue, and then possibly a mage. That would at least give him the basic four, but he wasn't opposed to having two extra for flexibility's sake. Strength in numbers, as they say.

Mira inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of burning wood. She looked around in puzzlement, eyes searching for the source of the smell. There was no fire in sight. In fact, there was nothing in sight; she had somehow found herself within a realm of darkness. Lovely. The mystical voice was her company within the gloom, informing her about the setting of the game. She only half listened. Something about a militia and a harsh world. Tutorials are usually a cakewalk anyway. Why should this game be any different?

The voice ceased speaking and she suddenly found herself back in reality, or virtual reality in this case. Her eyes darted from one ramshackle house to another, and she soon realized she was in the center of some town. It seems she wasn't alone as someone suddenly appeared to her left, then another to her right. So these must be the other players. More players seemed to appear from nothingness, and she quickly found herself in the center of a thick crowd.

A gruff-voiced man who she could only assume was an NPC ordered the crowd to gather around him. Mira groaned. Being bossed around by an NPC was the last thing she was wanted; nevertheless she followed the crowd to his position. She tapped her foot impatiently while the man lectured on. Once he finally finished the voice spoke up, giving her some more advice.

She pushed her way through the crowd and headed toward the cart just as a few others had done. Inventory. She thought to herself. Sure enough her blank inventory appeared before her, and she placed a handful a medicinal herbs into it. The leather armor was a definite must have, and she fitted it on herself before shifting her attention to a potential weapon.

Her hand hovered over the short sword and the daggers, but her eyes shifted from the bow and arrows to the various staves. Did she want to be an elusive assassin? Perhaps a ranger? I know! She took one of the staves in hand, admiring its light weight. She'd challenge herself by becoming something she had never been before, a mage. Now she had to do the most difficult part of the tutorial: finding a party.

Koizumi Sora/Nyx

"Finally..." Nyx looked at the three knives lined up neatly, letting out a mutter in relief. It took her a full two minutes to finally master the three knives that definitely weren't meant for throwing, two minutes she spent embarrassed of how rusty she was. Well, I did learn only to have knowledge behind what my characters were doing... That monster Takahashi really crushes the competitive spirit, after all... Nyx placed the knives back in her belt, finally looking up and around at all the groups that were slowly forming. After a few seconds her eyes singled out one of the few fellow female avatars in the area, carrying a staff. I hope she knows how to use that if she's equipped it. Nyx spread her lips in a natural smile, walking towards the girl that had amber irises.

"Yo!" Nyx waved to the girl, trying to get her attention as she got closer to her. "Need a hybrid? I'm still looking for a party to join."

"Hmm?" she said as the boy came up to her. He introduced himself as Ian and seemed nice and all. She was shy in real life but was usually confident in games. This was different. It felt so real that she became nervous. "I... I'm Azure..." She said as she blushed out embarrassment and sighed. "S-sure... I can be y-your support... I w-was planning on being a Beast tamer... but I can work w-with herbs.." She said. She held her hand out to signal she wanted to shake on it. "I... I promise I will do my best" She said with a stuttery laugh.

The Beast Tamer class was a hard support role to even comprehend doing. It would require her to care for an egg after the tutorial. once the egg hatched she would be able to have her first beast tamed. The beast that hatches from the egg would be her main form of attacks. Although the beast relies on the tamer as much as the tamer relies on the beast. The Beast tamer have specific stats they must focus on. They also have supporting abilities.

Raiyan Faine- Axious

Axious shook his head when Nocuous asked him if he knew anyone.
"Sorry, I don't know any one here." said Axious as his eyes observed more and more people getting their gear. It looked like a guy had gone over to introduce himself to a girl with a staff. If they were a team of two then they could team up with him and Nocuous. Then they would only need two more. "Follow me" he told Nocuous before walking over to the pair.

As he got closer he decided to yell out to them,
"Hey you two! Wanna join up with us?" Hopefully they would agree to joining up. That would make this selection thing so much easier.

With a wide grin, Ian took Azure's hand in his and gave her a firm hand shake. Despite his usual sense of apathy, he couldn't help but feel giddy. Perhaps it was the vast landscape around him; it was truly amazing. "A beast tamer, huh? That's a bit of an odd choice. I'd say we make a good match then. I was planning on trying some weird new tactics as a warrior. I just gotta find a greatsword, and a dagger stronger than this dinky thing." Holding up the dagger he had grabbed, he examined the metal once more, this time looking a bit closer. "I need something that can crack stone. If this works, we'll have a real advantage."

Ian placed the dagger back in his inventory. Both the short sword and the dagger hung from his belt, hinting that he was planning on dual wielding them. Unusual for a warrior, to say the least. His plan was to not only put points into strength to effectively wield the greatsword, but enough agility to use the dagger as a fulcrum and quickly grind his sword across the ground. It would take practice, but should his plan succeed, it would be incredibly hard to counter efficiently.

Once again facing the crowd, he looked for any rogues or mages that caught his eye. While he would like to have one or two more heavy hitters, the essentials needed to come first.

Suddenly, he noticed someone calling out to him and Azure. Two men, from the looks of it. Ian turned his gaze to Azure when he asked about joining up. "I don't mind it, but we're gonna need a mage, and probably a rogue, too. If you're okay with being in a party of mostly men, that guy looks like a rogue to me. I'm gonna go ahead and assume he isn't gonna want to part with his pal there. We go with them, we're just gonna have to find a mage somewhere. I'll leave the final choice up to you, partner."

Atticus Janvier.

Janvier dutifully approached the cart, taking the standard-issue armor and quickly putting it on - alas, not quite glamorous, but surely better things would come in due time. He also took a set of torches and herbs, smoothly - after quickly getting used to the system - depositing them into his inventory. Only one weapon, probably - it's just as well to take a generic short sword when you're unsure of yourself, and he did so. Objective out of the way. Next one: form a party. Not so easy.

He took this opportunity to take his first real look around - a rare break from his strict adherence to quickly and efficiently carrying out his duties. The village wasn't a pretty one, not to him at least - it seemed crude, hectic, unstructured. Janvier found it ugly, in fact. Certainly, he would have preferred to be serving, perhaps, a city with more order or infrastructure than this, but this was the path set before him and thus shall he carry out his duty, or his name wasn't Atticus Janvier. A few other players were gathering their gear, of course. Forming parties. Interaction didn't come naturally to him - the only interaction he was comfortable with was the receipt of orders, the delegation of duties to others, and of course, conducting debates and arguments. Perhaps he'd simply approach the first group he saw that didn't seem to meet the maximum population - surveying the crowd - ah, there. A young man, seemingly a few inches taller than Janvier - this reminded him to fix his posture, he was slouching just the smallest bit, likely unnoticeable - calling out to a pair. He seemed to have another young man with him. That would be four, of course, leaving room for at least one more.

Quickly, he checked that his hair was quite neat and tidy - it was, it always was - and approached the young man. Knowing this would be somewhat of an interruption but figuring it wouldn't be too unwelcome, he spoke quickly, the other pair seeming to be conversing. "I am also in need of a group, if you have the room."

"I'm.... I'm not th-that good at... approaching people...." She said with a slight blush. She still seemed to by shy even though she was in a video game. "I... I don't mind others coming into the group..." She said as she rubbed her arm with the dragon tattoo. it was a sort of dark blue mixed with light blue. She seemed to like to blend into the crowd so it was hard to even tell if she was a player or an NPC even though people already knew her. "G-go ahead and make the decision.." She said with a sigh.
