cheers for spring; for life; for a growing soul
Fleurscent
Established in the early 1900s Fluorescent was a small farming village in its early years. The villagers raised cattle and grew crops, selling them to neighboring towns nearby for profit. The town came to be with the combined effort of a few like minded individuals. Eventually it began to grow and thrive as more people with the same ideologies began to join. The villagers were quick to take note of how fertile the land was, but it was Gabriel Bellerose who began to grow flowers for profit and decoration. Soon the rest of the town followed suit and it was then given its name, for no matter where one would travel within town the scent of flowers was in the air. To celebrate the profits earned from their flowers, the villagers came up with Fête des fleurs.
Eventually some event caused the people of Fleurscent to stop accepting outsiders or at least stop welcoming them with open arms. They feared that their beloved town would be destroyed or turned to filth with the arrival of newcomers. So those who left vowed that they wouldn’t say a word about the town, but of course there were those who lied. People arrived yet they were usually shunned for a long while. It caused tension within the community of course.
For a long time the town remained under the radar, until a curious journalist wondered upon it. And to the displeasure of the citizens their beloved town became known by many. Tourist began to arrive in the hundreds, ignoring the traditions of the town and being disrespect to their environment. Eventually things changed and they were only allowed to visit during the festival, even then strict rules were put in place for them.
The Town
Fleurscent has been dubbed by tourist as the “Village Lost in Time” or “Belle’s Village” as it strongly resembles the fictional town. Fleurscent is rather not as developed as their neighboring towns or any other towns in France. There is electricity of course but it is used mostly for the essential. There are no advanced smartphones or gaming devices, rather the town mostly uses house phones or simple flip phones. The children can usually be seen playing outside by themselves or in groups, with old fashioned toys to entertain themselves with. Fleurscent is home to a beautiful old fashioned cathedral and a theatre that have been around since the town was built. It was only recently that they’ve decided to add a modern movie theater to their town, along with a few other things such as cafes and boutiques.
The citizens travel by bike, foot, or boat, but there are very few with cars. Though they’re mostly used for trips to other towns. Fleurscent is very eco-friendly, they are big on keeping they’re town beautiful and clean. Littering or any other hazardous behavior to the environment are punished harshly. Earth Day is celebrated throughout town, in fact the local schools and businesses are closed. People use the day to spend time with family and go outside to picnic.
Fête Des Fleurs
From the beginning of July and the beginning of September Fleurscent holds this festival. Every week is represented by a different flower of that townspeople’s choosing. Everything is decorated, from the houses, to the businesses, and the people. From the afternoon to well into the night there is food, games, music, and a variety of other attractions scattered across the city. It is the busiest time of year for the town, with tourist coming from all over to experience and see the beauty of it all. Outside of town is place for tourists to park their cars, from then on they can bike or walk the rest of the way.
