[Legends of the North] The OOC Thread

Ok, the house rules thread is at worst a complete first draft and at best the final rules. Consider it finalized unless you have some change you wish for me to consider (which you should of course mention...).

Before characters go up in full I would like a short summary of your character including a bit of backstory, concept, and motivation. Making sure that fits to the game and the game fits to that will be more important than mechanics at the moment.

Go ahead and post that here, nothing is binding yet, but this will let me see something of the thought process and let your fellow players have an inkling as to what will be out there. As this is predominantly a solo game don't worry about overlap or anything like that.

I have now read 1k actions. Posting the short character concept before full sheet as requested soon.

Some questions to think about for Zyers:

What house is Zyers from?

Is he from the isle or from Cherak?

If he is from Cherak does his motivation refer to the Realm's version of DB society or Cherak's?

I'm guessing you mean that he was sent to Realm academies? (if he is from one of the great houses this is no big, but be aware that if he is from House Ferem this likely means that either 1) his family paid a big chunk of money and some political favors to get him educated there or 2) he was recruited into a great house and effectively adopted out of House Ferem)

If he went to a military academy where did he learn sorcery? (multiple schools is totally fine, but maybe he learned somewhere else? or back home or some such)

and last but not least.. Is he part of the Realm forces in Cherak or is he part of Cherak's forces?

Demon hunting is cool, but I want to check do you mean that in the strict sense of the word or a perhaps broader sense? Cherak has a number of less than alive neighbors out there for example.

Fleshing out initial character ideas. I'm still interested in an archery themed solar, although after reading more fluff I'm Planning on killing off the Robinhood flavor for more of a scout/survivalist. Someone who just manages to survive amongst the frozen lands and provide some measure of protection/guardianship. I don't know if he'd have a set area, but I imagine staying mostly north of whitewall.

Very cool, any idea where he grew up? Is he trying to protect anything/one in particular or is this a lunar in a solar suit?

I'll read over the cities general descriptions again and see if anything strikes my fancy, but it could be close to the lunar persuasion. It's quite possible he'll develop intimacies with communities he's aided.

Some questions to think about for Zyers:
Thanks, answers below.

What house is Zyers from?
Ferem. I'm thinking for a full name Ferem Anulus Zyers, which he would insist on to avoid unnecessary political quarrels in mixed company.

Is he from the isle or from Cherak?
From Cherak proper.

If he is from Cherak does his motivation refer to the Realm's version of DB society or Cherak's?
Zyers follows the customs of Cherak, but is a follower of the Immaculate Philosophy insofar as most legionaries of the Realm are, not monklike. Zyers, were he on the Council (of which he knows nothing), would argue more for suing the Realm for more equal status than the more drastic measures on the table. He'd like to see ten thousand dragons fight as one - a Realm of twelve great houses, Ferem among the them. So a bit of both. He has great respect for the Realm and doesn't want to see it abolished. He thinks it is the center of culture and polite company, as well as great scholars and military might. Zyers simply wouldn't mind House Ferem having a more active hand at the stern of that great society. He doesn't go so far as to call himself Ferem Zyers, however, since he understands his opinion on the matter is unlikely to turn the tide of public opinion. As a sorcerer, he bears a social stigma that keeps him out of politics, which suits him just fine.

No, neither Zyers nor his feeble Cherak bloodline has the clout to attend the House of Bells. He trained to be part of Cherak's armed forces, most of which are naval. I haven't thought of a name of the academy, only that it's Cherak's most prominent one (not saying much compared to the Realm, but should be much stronger in Shogunate traditions than anywhere else in the Threshold outside of Lookshy. That would include the thousand correct actions of the upright soldier.)

If he went to a military academy where did he learn sorcery? (multiple schools is totally fine, but maybe he learned somewhere else? or back home or some such)
Being an air aspect interested in the Occult he self-initiated. I have yet to decide if it's from a stray copy of the white treatise or if he'd been the beneficiary of the Selenian working. I like to think about Sorcery as the Exalted version of hacking reality. So after some Thaumaturgy reached it's limits he asked for - and received! - more by completing the trials.

and last but not least.. Is he part of the Realm forces in Cherak or is he part of Cherak's forces?
He's part of Cherak's forces.

Demon hunting is cool, but I want to check do you mean that in the strict sense of the word or a perhaps broader sense? Cherak has a number of less than alive neighbors out there for example.
Not the strict sense. Zyers does have more experience and expertise with demons than other spirits, but he's been called on special assignment for other spirits in the line of duty as his best guess is more educated than most. Zyers is one of the few in Cherak that can really understand the differences between demons, undead, fair folk and darkbrood (lacking a Heptogram analogue to collate that knowledge, as they do). My understanding is that Cherak, between the Realm's occupying legion and the Cherak's navy, haven't been invaded by hostile spirits in centuries. The knowledge atrophies, but Zyers has taken an active interest in all things Occult, and that expertise is known to his superior officers.

Would you like some more fleshing out, or shall I go on to the crunchy stuff?

Oh, and what's the ruling on merits and flaws? I'm thinking of things like favor, obligation, ward, ect. to flesh out the social net Zyers finds himeself in with Dragon-Blooded society.

Looks good, I was mostly giving you those questions for yourself to think about, but thanks for the answers. :) I'm not a fan of merits and flaws in general, but I can look those over and let you know for sure. Generally I like just using RP and backgrounds. But yeah, go for it on the crunchy bits.

Alright, rough character concept plotted out.

Zenith, who was a gambler/swindler/petty thief who moved from town to town (probably in the Haslanti League territories mostly), and was eventually run out when he was caught. He received his Exaltation then, and headed for Whitewall for some rebuilding...

To answer Tikor's question for everyone. The question was if I am using elemental craft minimums for the advanced crafts, and the answer is yes. I hope to think that the craft houserules will allow for that with just enough pain to bring an understanding of how cool it is that your character knows spiffy things, but not so much as to cripple your character.

Well Hello, being the newb that I am, I'll be sticking to solars as I'm most familiar with that.

I'd appreciate some links to reading material :)

I will have to think for a bit on character concept.

Going to get started on creation..

Night Caste. Mid 20's. Spent some time as a mercenary (archer) ended up running out of funds in whitewall. Down on his luck he ended up getting blamed for a murder and winter exiled. His exaltation saved him from certain death. He's been using skills to try and improve life in the north, with a protective bent towards the downtrodden (be it small villages or impoverished in more settled areas) He's recently been west/northwest of whitewall but he ranges fairly broadly.

I will be mostly unavailable from January 9 - 13 with limited availability the weekends before and after.

I am returned! I haven't seen any new characters pop up. Feel free to poke me with questions and such. I'd like to get things going soonish.

So, a character:

Twilight caste, focused on crafting/big stompy robots. Slave from Dehenna, worked as a blacksmith, until an encounter with some Realm soldiers went badly. Exaltation occurred, smack was laid down, and now he finds himself on the run.

Char gen folks, how are things going? Can we aim to get characters finished by the end of this weekend?

I should be done by this weekend. I have some good ideas to run by you I think.

All of char gen rules are up correct?
