Hi all. If you find any and all of the below cool, I want to talk to you. Basically, I'm into the late 80s - mid 90s range for anime style, particularly for OVAs such as Patlabor, Bubblegum Crisis, Tank Police, and Dirty Pair with episodic stories set within a larger backstory that need not ever be resolved because the characters are mostly trying to live their lives as opposed to effecting a large change in the world. Using Patlabor as a case in point, the characters are civil servants even if they are sometimes called upon to defuse situations above their usual duties like preventing terrorism, stopping a coup, and rooting out a giant monster. But it could also be like in Bubblegum Crisis where the characters are vigilantes confronting horror monster like bio-mechanical androids prone to going out of control and the world spanning corporation that creates them. The characters may live in what we consider a dystopia, but they do their best to fit into that world while doing what they can for good rather than trying to destroy everything for an utopian ideal. It's a style of thinking from a more conservative, less ideologically militant, time perhaps.
Any and all of the GGO canons are welcome as are recognizable crossovers who could fit into a retro anime urban setting.
