Nari Mochizuki

Nari found it suspect that the girl was asking how long they’d been residing in the school. She didn’t doubt she felt suspicious of all the new people arriving as of late; mostly because of how hostile their environment had become with a host of new people who openly disliked them for just existing. She wanted to hush Xander as he answered the girl's question without thinking.

She knew the world outside of their paradise was terror and hardship and the last thing she wanted was to bring it crashing down onto their own heads. She could plainly see where Xander was wearing his heart, on his sleeve, The girls reminded him, and her, about the students that had once been in their charge. Students they didn’t know the fate of but could certainly assume.

Nari helped the girl into the nurse’s office, helping her up to sit on an exam table across from her sister as they waited for the doctor to be ready and look them both over. “I’ll go get some food and water.” She said aloud, not really to anyone in particular but stating her intentions.

Xander, Nari, Pandora

"A couple weeks?" Haewon responded, still holding onto Nari, "I never even knew this school was here, we went to Riverbank, across town," She explained, "That place sucked."

She winced as Nari helped her up onto the table, remaining seated. She probably should lay down, god did she want to, but that made her feel vulnerable. These guys seemed nice, but what if they weren't? What if this was some sort of trick to lure the two of them inside, then as soon as she let her guard down, they'd strike. She watched as Xander laid her sister down on the opposite table, barely conscious.

As Xander called out, a young lady poked her head out from behind a privacy curtain, pulling her poofy hair back into a bun. She rarely got new patients! Although boring was good when you were a medic in the apocalypse, it was, well, boring.
"Oh, hello!" She smiled, disappearing behind the curtain once more. She returned with her stethoscope, pulling the curtains back. She wanted to go through her regular checklist, check on the unconscious patient first, make sure she was breathing, her heart was beating, check her wounds... but she had been given a much more important checklist to follow first.
"I'm Pandora," She smiled, "Before I can treat you... I need to check you for bites, is that okay?" She asked, though if it wasn't okay, they'd probably get kicked out...
"Alright," Haewon replied, though was a little hesitant. She hadn't been bit, she was sure Minnie hadn't been bit, either, but she wasn't looking forward to getting strip-searched for teeth marks. She headed behind the privacy curtain, followed by Pandora.

There was a few minutes of silence as Pandora fully checked her over, lifting up bandages as she went.
"Alright, she's clean!" She called out to Xander, handing her clothes back to Haewon, "I'll need to check your friend, too, if you don't mind helping me," She told Haewon, keeping her voice down. Haewon nodded and the two got to work, drawing the curtains and checking Minnie for bites.

Once Pandora was done, she opened the curtains once more so Xander could see again and got to work with Minnie. Her breathing was good but her heart rate was fast, her skin clammy. She went straight to the wound above her knee, slowly rolling up the leg to her dungarees. She was lucky they were so baggy or she'd have to cut them and they couldn't really waste clothing anymore. Despite the fact that Minnie was drifting in and out of consciousness, Pandora explained everything she was doing.
"Sharp scratch..." She told her as she inserted the IV into the back of her hand, though Minnie still jumped and whimpered at the pain. She held her arm still as she taped the tube to her skin and began administering the antibiotics. Next was to patch up the wound. Sadly, it was too late to stitch it, the risk of further infection was too high, so she simply cleaned it and bandaged it up again. She cleaned up the smaller wounds Minnie had sustained; Defensive wounds to her hands, a gash to her forehead, a bit of a black eye... Once she was done, she left Minnie to sleep it off.

She turned to Haewon with a smile. She had her lie down and went through a similar routine with her, cleaning out her wounds and patching her up. It was much easier when they were awake, she could ask where it hurt the most and start from there... but at least the sleepy ones didn't complain as much.

"I'll let you two rest while I clean up... tell me if you're in any pain, okay?" Pandora smiled, beginning to clear away her tools. By the time she was done with Haewon, Minnie was starting to come around, slowly rolling onto her side and curling up. Why were nurses rooms always so cold? Haewon sat back up, still on edge.
"Thanks, guys..." She told them, glancing over at Xander.

Xander said nothing as Haewon seemed to question the answer he provided before mentioning the place she and her sister had come from across town -- apparently one they hadn't had particularly positive experiences with. Their own scouting parties -- the rare ones who went that far -- had shared a similar sentiment. He laid Minnie down on the nearest table as gently as he could, not sure whether it was a good or bad thing that she barely seemed to stir while Nari dismissed herself to fetch food and water.

Xander glanced up at the sound of a new voice as Pandora stepped out from behind the nearby curtain to address them. She quite the asset here in their makeshift infirmary -- a surgical resident at a nearby hospital prior to the outbreak -- which, as far as Font was concerned, made her a godsend. He was relieved that she took on the brunt of having to tell the two newcomers about the mandatory "bite-check". He hadn't been looking forward to broaching that particular subject with them. Luckily, Haewon agreed to it with only the slightest bit of recalcitrance in her voice (which he imagined was primarily on behalf of her sister). He did his best to give her a reassuring smile as she headed for the curtain, turning away out of respect even though the gesture was entirely unnecessary.

Xander let out a breath of relief he didn't even know he'd been holding upon hearing both girls were clear of bites, allowing Pandora to begin her exam and treatment proper. Soon Nari returned with some bottled water and basic snacks he placed a hand on her arm in greeting, the two of them leaning by the wall as Pandora finished up her routine. "Thanks, doc," he murmured as the woman packed up her tools. Turning his attention back to Haewon, he gave her a smile and a small nod. "Don't mention it. Just get some rest and then we'll take things from there. And here: for when you and your sis feel up to it."

Font grabbed a small folding table for each of them where they were stacked by the door, unfolding them before setting them next to where each of them lay with a bottled water, a fruit cup, and some crackers.

Kurt swallowed as best he could, mouth and throat having gone dry. The situation was a disaster and to be honest he wasn't sure what to do next. Self-Preservation screamed for him to take off, but that wasn't something he could do in good conscious. Especially with Howie in a vulnerable state and the kid terrified in the stairwell behind him. The same kid that he had a hand in being the reason he was out here in the first place. And if Kurt did somehow make it back, and Tyler got hurt or worse. Well their chief security officer would assuredly put a bullet in him. It was then that he saw the movement over the aggressor's shoulder, Sandra. She had choices, take the supplies and run or stay to help them. There wasn't much time to think, especially with Tyler's questions ringing out. It was that moment Howie spat and Kurt saw his opening, the momentary distraction. With no time to hesitate Kurt reached behind him and under the loose shirt to pull the gun from his waistband.

Sandra saw this as the sign, the moment she spotted Kurt's gun coming out from behind the councilman's back she took her shot. Silently praying she didn't hurt Howie in the process, even if he was an idiot.

"Stay back there!" He'd called out to Tyler just as the gunshot rang out. Meanwhile Kurt began aiming his own weapon at Howie's captor, already on the move in hopes of disarming the man should be injured. All the while staying alongside the pews, fully planning to dive behind some should this man or the other two attempt to fire at him before Kurt could close the distance.

GREG BUSTER

Greg chuckled. "Whatever y'say, bossman." Fucking Xander and his happy bunch. Weak men behind the helm of their post-Knox, now Font-Knox shipwreck. So comforting. Buster knew there would be a different call if Harry was still in charge. But that dude was old news, eh. Cox was doing another boring sweep out there, babysitting a group of pansies and missing all this party. The party that the two strangers led straight to the High School's reinforced doors.

But honestly, Greg wasn't complaining. He had the best view after all.

"WOO!!" The man howled when taking his aim along with the other guards and Stan, who were already shredding the first row of the undead creatures. Trying to give the young girls a chance. To buy some time for Xander too, who run to open the gates and save the two new souls. That guy and his hero complex, right? Almost as big as Buster's balls.

"Y'seen how it pop, Grandpa?!" The big guy guffawed, watching another biter drop after he drove a big boys bullet straight through the swollen head. "Like a fucking watermelon!" But as they stopped shooting and the time passed, he recognized the situation was getting more and more out of control. Sure they were guarded but this wasn't some small horde either. So despite his carefree nature Buster came over the radio to speak to the decision-maker again. "Looks to me like you just traded our asses for those two chinx, chief. Gotta send a shark bait from the flank or something. Gates ain't gonna hold forever." Greg's accent became thicker each time he was hanging out with the old timer redneck.

If big guy's leg wasn't all fucked up and wrapped in a cast, (and if his back wasn't low-key killing him) Buster would help draw the zombie away from the building himself. But he was stuck, just like Stan who was literally too old for that shit.

Nari Mochizuki

Nari felt more than guilty about she suspicions about the girls as she left to their food stores and returned with food and water for both. She still couldn't help her suspicions, and maybe she needed to rely more on Xander for this one. She stepped outside the nurses office to let the doctor do what she needed to do and give them a little more privacy while she waited for Xander. Unfortunately she couldn't wait for Xander to be free when she heard the radio squawk again, Greg announcing that there were too many to handle at the gates.

It wasn't the first time they'd attracted a horde and she knew how to deal with them.

Nari jogged down the hall back the way they'd come with the girls, slipping through the doors of the school into the 'no man zone' between the doors and the chain-link fence that surrounded the school. She lifted her radio to her lips. "Just keep them off of me, asshole." She responded to the dicks on the roof with the rifles. With her heart in her throat she wandered closer to the fence, the horde's groans growing louder - maybe it was her imagination but it certainly felt that way. She pinched two fingers between her lips and whistled, drawing the attention of the dead as she slowly backed down the fence line, slowly, thinning out the herd.

She moved down, thirty, forty feet, watching the markers on the fence line before turning around. She leaned down and pulled back a tarp, revealing a series of yacht batteries connected together; they were hooked up to a small solar panel to continuously trickle in a charge. Ideally they would use them for living but after it became clear the hordes of zombie would be an ever growing problem, they'd re-designated their priorities. She clipped the positive and negative clamps to the end of the first battery in the chain, and clamped the other ends to the chain link. The effect was immediate - the zombies that touched the metal were electrified, with just enough remaining to their nervous system to remain stunned and still.

From the stash she collected 'the pick' a sharpened piece of plastic and donned a pair of rubber gloves - less she accidently touch the fence and become one of the dead.

Nari hated this job above all others at the high school and for every two of three she killed by stabbing The Pick into their skulls she'd turn and wretch and dry heave.

Xander was just backing away from Minnie and Haewon's tray tables when his radio squawked to life with the sound of Buster's voice -- gunfire audible in the background. "Looks to me like you just traded our asses for those two chinx, chief. Gotta send a shark bait from the flank or something. Gates ain't gonna hold forever."

Font closed his eyes, jaw clenching for a moment as he reminded himself to throw Buster down the nearest flight of stairs once their current crisis was averted. He hadn't forgotten about the horde outside, but clearly he had underestimated it. His brief vantage point throwing open the doors to let in the two girls hadn't allowed him the best estimation of its size, though it had was obviously far bigger their defenses were equipped to handle. That, at least, he trusted Buster's assessment of.

One look at their new visitors confirmed that Haewon had heard the transmission. Well, no time to worry about that now. He had to deal with the undead incursion. Xander pointed at Haewon, narrowing his eyes and giving her the same imperious tone he'd used on his JROTC students once upon a time. "Stay here, don't move. Doc, secure this door until you hear the all-clear."

With that, he turned on his heel to march out into the corridor, shutting the infirmary door behind him. Xander didn't make it far before he heard Nari's voice over the radio, addressing Buster. "No, goddamnit," Xander hissed under his breath as he staggered down the halls and toward the exit. His knees were going to lucky if the proverbial bubblegum and shoestring holding them together managed after today's events. Xander knew better than to try and talk his friend down when she got an idea in her head. He threw the door open -- the cross-bar and chain already lifted from where Nari had passed through -- and exited, closing the door behind him before drawing his pistol from the holster at his hip.

He scanned the fence line, balking at first as he saw the forms of corpses contorting against it as thousands of volts coursed through their undead musculature. Steam rose from a few of them and faint scent of burnt flesh wafted to his nostrils. Font turned away from the sight, continuing his search... though he didn't have to look for long. He spotted Nari's petite form jabbing a narrow plastic spike through the gaps in the chain link to penetrate the temple of a stunned ghoul, which slumped further against the fence -- its body rhythmically jerking all the way down. Xander dashed over. "Nari! What are you--" he paused as she turned and retched in his direction just he arrived, spattering the asphalt with a fresh pile of vomit, narrowly avoiding his boots.

His concerned anger gave way to sympathy as he sidestepped the filth to lay a gentle hand on her back, holding a hand out for the pick in her hand as he holstered the .45. "I'll take care of this. Get back inside."

Xander, Nari, Pandora

Haewon was relieved to see a plate of food, no matter how bland.
"Oh, thank you!" She replied eagerly, reaching out for a handful of crackers. Pandora hesitated before speaking up.
"Just take it easy, okay? You could make yourself sick if you eat too much too fast," She warned, to which Haewon nodded. She was disappointed, however, fully ready to gorge herself on crackers. She instead took one, quietly nibbling on it.

She sat up straighter as she heard the radio go off, frowning. She would be concerned about the growing horde if the voice over the radio hadn't just called her a slur.
"That's a joke, right?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Ah, that's... that's Buster," Pandora chimed in as she tidied, lowering her voice a little, "Don't worry, he's said much worse to me, too."

"Oh-- well I can help with the horde, we brought it here anyway--" She began but Xander gave her a mighty stern look. She put her hands up defensively as she sat back down.
"Alright, alright," She replied, getting comfy as Xander rushed off.

Pandora got to work barricading the door. They had worked on a plan if something like this happened, she would move one of the heavy medicine cabinets in front of the door and leave it in place until Xander returned with good news. Though, the scraping of the cabinet across the linoleum floor seemed to wake Minnie, now slightly more lucid with antibiotics in her system.

She slowly pushed herself up with her arm, squinting into the light. She'd been out of it for a few days now, she didn't know how she'd gotten here, who this strange lady was, why she was barricading them into the room... She looked down at her hand, her eyes widening.
"There's a needle in my hand..." She muttered. Haewon looked up, surprised to hear her speaking.
"Minnie, how are you--" She began, but Minnie began to panic.
"There's a needle--" She whimpered. Haewon got down from the table, heading over to try and calm her.
"It's okay... We're safe, Doctor Pandora put it in, it's giving you..." Haewon began, though suddenly seemed to forget what word she was looking for... "Drugs"
"Drugs?!" Minnie yelped.
"No, no-- Good drugs-- Medicine!" Haewon reassured her, wrapping her arms around her.

Pandora awkwardly headed over. She hadn't had much practice with her bedside manner, it had been a while since she had worked in a proper hospital. She leaned over a little as Minnie huddled against her sister.
"Hi... My name is Pandora. The needle in your arm is giving you special medication to help with your knee... It's not very nice but it will make you feel a lot better. Just give me... thirty minutes, okay?" She told her with a smile. Minnie was hesitant but nodded, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

Sam & Jose

"Potato, potahto." The man muttered, scratching his rust-colored beard.

"No, I'm serious." His lanky companion in a fishing hat tried to convince him. "Tomato is a fruit, man."

"Then why we don't eat it in a fruit salad?"
Sam scoffed. "Did you think about that?" He shook his head until it froze and his face screwed at the sight. "And who the hell are you..." He watched the stranger making a wild dive under the van.

Sam kept the shotgun lowered even though his arms twitched. His fellow had only a pistol held in sweaty hands. This wasn't the first time they encountered "them". Those from the other group that apparently resided in the area. But it was the first time they were interacting. Interacting… What a dumb word. Sam saw Harry's look before they split. Maybe the redhead was a backwoods hillbilly but he knew Harry meant some bloody business here.

And now he knew something else too. The guy under the van? He wasn't with "them".

"Should I call Cox?" Jose questioned his bearded friend, squinting at the new guy, ready to whip out his walkie talkie. He felt all wired and jittery today, especially with the task they were given by that damn racist.

"Shit-" Sam swore and pulled up his shotgun, taking aim at the back of a now hurrying woman… who headed straight for the church's entrance. His heart hammered in his chest and ears. Should he shoot? He was this close to pulling the trigger but….she was too far now. Yeah. That's why he didn't shoot...

"Holy cow-" Jose pointed his pistol at the stranger when the guy bounced from under the vehicle. But he also didn't shoot even after the guy was to enter the van. "What the hell is happe-" That's when both of them heard gun fire inside the Church. Jose's eyes went big but his companion didn't freeze this time. Sam bolted from cover and ran for the church without another word. Jose didn't know what to do but he stepped out from cover as well. "What about the guy in the van?!" He stood there out in the open, clutching his pistol and looking around. But his main focus was on the car when he yelled. "Get out man! I know you're in there!" His expression a pretty honest reflection of what he felt at the time. Mainly that he had to go to the bathroom! His stupid gut was always twisting and cramping when the situation got heated.

A Sparkling Zombie A Sparkling Zombie

Harry Cox

Cox was very much aware of the kid on the stairs, wondering how many other strangers cowered there. Did his fellows outside keep an eye on that woman by the van? They better not try and run off with that stuff in the car. No, they wouldn't. They were safer with the ex-Knox group than on their own and they knew it. Harry was going to bring all that loot back to High School base and have a little chat with Font. About shifts in authority. Right on.

But, apparently, all it took was a little distraction and his walking-on-stitches plan crumbled like old Knox - the community he tried to build with Andrews and Patterson. But...deep down Cox knew, it wasn't this little distraction that marked the point of no return. It was a while back. It was when Knox had fallen and his dog, his loyal bitch kicked the bucket. It was then when Cox started to lose control over his life yet again. The worst was, he felt like there was no one else behind the wheel.

Sandra's gun was aimed at his right shoulder, to render his pistol-wielding hand useless. But her friend, leashed in Harry's grasp, swung his head back. Like a rabid animal fighting its captor, he stumbled them both. The big man staggered back half a step and spread his legs like a patrol cop to regain some balance. The white, searing pain knocked the breath out of him, followed by a sound of a firing weapon. Deafening in the auditory space.

It felt like back in the good old days, in the parking lot before the liquor store. He and two other local kids standing up to the newcomers who visited their little town for the Autumn festivities. He could barely walk for a month after getting hit to the back with a baseball bat.

Now, it was exactly like back then. Except much worse.

Jason froze, shocked. "Harry!" Then he moved forward on an urge of heart, even though he got punched by a wave of heat watching the red stain bloom across the back of older man's shirt. Boy's once tall and attractive frame for months seemed awkwardly crooked and flimsy. Yet, no matter the coward he turned out to be against the undead, he now leaped to the wounded leader.

"Agh- Ff-uckers-" Cox gritted out when whipping his pistol at the enemy on pure act of vengeance. Or was it an honest attempt to eliminate the threat when Kurt drew out his own firearm? However wobbly on his feet, the big man seemed ready to take aim at Kurt, ready to pull the trigger.

Howie was finally free and Sandra had a clear shot. For the next two seconds.

Ten seconds.

Dom got like a whole ten seconds before the first gunshot. He gasped and nearly dropped the can of peas in his hand, but a breathy chuckle followed on its heels. That was his cue to high-tail out of here. He zipped up his bag and shouldered it. Tossing himself over the back seat would have been more impressive if he wasn't a six-foot man wearing a backpack full of gear. Still, an honest soul who knew him would agree he was great with tight spaces.

"Get out man! I know you're in there!"

His heart skipped a beat. The voice didn't come from the church. It came from somewhere to the right of the van.

And if he thought about it more, the guy sounded terrified. Dom laughed to himself.

At least he knew which side not to exit from. He turned himself so his feet were closest to the left-side rear door. Slowly, so as to try and be as quiet as a mouse, he opened it, just enough so he could squeeze through and crouch-walk to the front tire. His heart thundered. A smirk played at his lips.

One, two...

He darted for the next closest vehicle, and because he couldn't resist, he tossed haplessly over his shoulder: "See ya!" As soon as he thought himself close enough, he dived for cover.

Hopefully he didn't take a bullet from point A to B.

"Socks can stay. Now turn around and walk backwards towards me. Slowly."

Fire flashed inside Dustin. It seared across his collarbone and over his vision. If it wasn't for the intruder's continued hold on Miyu, he might've chucked a shoe at his face. There were only feet between them. The distance might as well have been point-blank. Somehow, the risk of getting shot appealed more than walking out of here almost naked.

Instead, Dustin's fingers let go of the shoes and they clattered to the floor. He turned around slowly. He backed up until he felt the bare palm against his bare back. At last, Miyu was released. With her and Matthew sentenced to the room from which the intruder stole, they were able to leave, Dustin controlled by the neck as if he were a misbehaved mutt. It came with another warning. He hummed his acknowledgement, but in the back of his mind, he was becoming reminded of a chihuahua.

The fact that no one noticed them slipping through the breach in the wall left Dustin feeling torn. He thought the men and women under his command were better at their roles. That would have to be a discussion for later. He obeyed the intruder's commands silently as they escaped from the hospital and out onto the streets of the town. His eyes scanned the ground just as much as their surroundings. Getting a nail or glass in his foot wasn't exactly the way he wanted to top off this day.

"Are you sure you and your injured friend are safe where you are?" Dustin asked in a low voice once they were out of earshot from the rest of the hospital. No, he didn't know how many were in the intruder's group. He figured he might get an answer one way or another. "One of us saw a herd blowing through the other day. Nobody says we have to enemies. It's not too late for help."

Farther up the street, a few zombies shambled along. They hadn't noticed them yet.

Nari Mochizuki

"I can do it." Nari spoke - nearly needing yell - over the noise of the ghouls as they moaned and reached towards the fence. She kept the pick out of reach of Xander, twisting away. She didn't meet eye contact with him, knowing very well she would give in to his demand because of the look of pittance in his face. She'd seen it before, really any time she had to deal with the dead; he felt sorry for her because the entire idea of killing them, even if they were already dead, was so far against her ideals and religious beliefs it made her physically sick to complete the task.

She knew he had to complete the task - it was a matter of survival and while her spiritual and religious belief didn't align with her current reality, they also drove her to survive; suicide, even by death of being consumed by the dead, was abhorrent. "Stop them from using up the ammo." She turned back to the fence, driving the Pick through another skull, the brain matter spattering out, fizzing against the electrified fence. She gagged again but thankfully didn't throw up this time. "They're just drawing more in and we'll need the ammo if worse trouble comes."

Xander clenched his jaw as Nari turned away from him, snatching the spike out of reach like a stubborn younger sibling attempting to keep hold of a much-desired toy. He considered persisting and doing his best to talk her down. He knew how much it killed Nari down to have to engage in this task: dispatching the undead went against everything she had once believed in and to some extent still did. The two of them had talked about it before and if he had his way, she would have never been placed in this position. But he also heard the determination in her voice now, saw it etched in her features even as she turned away from him.

Reluctantly, Xander acquiesced with a stiff nod. There was some logic to what she had said -- the horde was thinning and was no longer an existential threat to their colony, so any further gunfire was self-defeating. The man keyed the radio, barking into it to be heard, "Cease fire, everyone. But keep watch. We'll finish mopping up down here."

With that, he reached down to unclip and slide the heavy knife from the scabbard on his hip, flipping it around into a reverse grip in his fist before taking up a position at the fence. Nari had prevented him from sending her back inside... but she hadn't said anything about him helping her. He quickly found his first target: a woman in her 30s, once upon a time. Now wearing what remained of a hoodie and jeans, thrashing at the fence. His first downward stab was deflected, glancing off the skull harmlessly and doing little more than gouging a nasty, oozing wound along her hairline. The movies always made it seem easier. Xander huffed, loading his hips up before again bringing his hand and the blade it held down like a hammer, feeling the impact reverberate through to his core as flesh parted obediently before the knife's edge before bone cracked and split -- finally meeting something soft and forgiving beyond as the ghoul went limp.

Only about a dozen more to go.

There were two gunshots. The second followed immediately behind the first.

Tyler's bullet struck the wall and sprayed plaster. It would have been more embarrassing if his brain wasn't running at the speed of light. Fear trumped humiliation. Their leader's command was nearly drowned out by the thundering pulse in his ears. His leg twitched in an attempt to obey, but he stayed frozen on the spot. Only his mind took action. It fled up the stairs. It took cover and waited out the violence.

No. No no no. He couldn't do that. His group needed him and he had to keep their medic safe.

He breathed through pursed lips as he bolted down the stairs. A single stride crossed the distance between them and the doorway. He quieted then, as best he could. His hands trembled and the sweat beaded on his forehead as he braved a peek out into the main room.

Sandra took notice of the stance their assailant took. Not a second thought crossed her mind as she too took aim and fired. The bullet didn't find its target. She had hardly been aware of the boy until the last second, and by then he spilled to the floor. A curse slipped from her mouth, but her eyes stayed honed on the enemy's apparent leader. She began to squeeze the trigger.

She was only vaguely aware of the shouting from behind.

GREG BUSTER

"Look at her, Pops. What an eager beaver. Swinging that pick like a miner." Buster commented with a chuckle, pulling the scope away from his face to grab the walkie-talkie and speak over the radio again. "You look like you're made for this, sweetheart. Keep going, ohh yesss, don't stop, ahhgggg…." He was about to continue the antagonizing talk but Stan's tone cutting through the jokes suggested he was really done with Greg's frat bro behavior. "That's enough."

Instead of responding to the man, Buster burst out laughing, seeing the girl throw up. "Now that's a turn-off." He flashed a toothy grin. "Unless you're into that shit."

He slung his weapon and grabbed the mostly empty can to gulp down its remaining contents. He burped again when their leader came over the radio, ordering the guards to cease fire since some of them still tried to help clean that mess. Stan wasn't one of them, his crosshairs dancing nearby the girl. To make sure he'd react on time whenever she's directly in harm's way. Greg wasn't wrong, he really liked her. Cared for her. But not in that vulgar way the nasty brat was talking of.

"Incoming!" Greg hollered over the drone of remaining zombies crowding at the fence. His empty, crushed can flew in their direction, rather pathetically hitting one to the head and making it slowly turn to look up. It could strike a person as a nearly human behavior, shade of curiosity and annoyance in the way its body motioned? Just an illusion. And Greg wasn't even watching, his eyes screwed shut as he touched the side of his ribs, hissing through bared teeth.

"Yeh' should be more careful with that back." Stan remarked calmly without looking over. But Greg didn't reflect on that. Still squinting through the pain when he balanced on one leg to try and grab his crutches. Almost clattering to the floor before he managed to snatch them and straightened up as best he could.

"Where are you going now?" The elderly male questioned, still refusing to peel his eye off the optic, making sure the two young people downstairs were covered by his rifle and keen reflex.

"Gonna check on the fresh meat." Buster hobbled toward the exit with a smirk. His crutches and heavy one-foot steps could have been heard from the hallway as he approached the medbay.

INTERACTIONS

Pandora, Greg

Minyoung sniffled softly, quickly wiping her eyes. She had to keep her cool... Come on, she was fourteen! She was practically an adult.
"Are you in pain? That cut is pretty deep..." Pandora asked gently, "I can give you something to help if you'd like... I can even give you something to help you sleep--"
"No!" Minnie snapped, clutching onto the table she was sat on.
"Minnie!" Haewon scolded, "I'm sorry," She apologised to Pandora. Minnie never really talked back, she was always relatively quiet.
"That's fine, honestly," Pandora responded with a gentle smile, "Just tell me if you change your mind... okay?"

As Pandora turned to give the two some privacy, she heard a familiar click-clacking approaching the old nurse's office.
"Ugh... Greg," She muttered, heading to the door.
"Oh, that prick," Haewon responded, to which Pandora chuckled a little.
"We can't let you in, Greg! Xander said we can't open the door until he gives the all-clear!" She called out with a smirk. Maybe a zombie invasion wasn't so bad if it meant she had a solid metal medicine cabinet between her and Buster.

Watching as the large injured man took aim with his gun, and just as Kurt tried to get himself in-between the pews he fucking slipped with the gunshot ringing out. As much as he would like to believe there was some good reason to it like the floor being wet, he had little doubt it was because of the fear starting to really sink in. The slip and stumble wasn't too bad, but in the course of trying not to end up on the ground and exposed in the open he'd lost the grip on the gun that slid somewhere underneath the pews. In that moment he'd looked towards the crowd in the middle of the church, it was then that he saw that Sandra was gone from her position, but the two beside Cox were a different story. The taller one was moving towards where Sandra had been with his gun ready, the smaller one who seemed less interested in this confrontation was nowhere to be seen, likely having hidden behind the nearby pews or debris.

But Howie was struggling with the man still standing, trying to wrench the gun free. Kurt didn't have time to look for his own weapon, he recovered what dignity he had and dashed towards the pair. Watching as Howie took a blow that sent him sprawling backwards, just before Kurt arrived. He and Cox locked eyes just as Kurt collided with the man carrying all of the momentum he could from hurling himself at the larger man. The impact had knocked the air out of him, and the collision sent them both ass-over-teakettle in a fit of grappling with one another. Kurt was trying to wrench the weapon free of Harry's hand, banking on the fact that he could overpower the man since he was now injured.

Sandra found herself confronted by Jordan after shooting, with the armed man's attention now on her she had moved to the opposite side of the entryway to avoid any retaliation. However the woman found herself distractedly looking over her shoulder towards the outside as Jordan half-jogged in her direction after Harry had been shot. The distraction came from the shouting outside, some of which was getting closer. Wrestling with which direction to point her weapon she started to momentarily panic over the fact that she found herself surrounded.

Harry Cox

Left side. The bullet penetrated his back on the left side of the midsection. Blood speedily devoured the fabric, coloring the back of his shirt and jeans. But man's right arm didn't budge, he pulled the trigger with passion, missing the target on the stupid, bad luck. And then Kurt was off sight.

"Fuckers-" Cox repeated, body gripped by adrenaline, running on pure strong will when attacked by the man he previously held captive. Guttural sound accompanied the action as he didn't hesitate to counter. Right when he was gaining advantage with a well aimed hook to Howie's jaw, another hard body slammed at him and the two tumbled. Legs and arms and the gun still clenched in Harry's hand, clashing and twisting and tugging.

Red trail of smears traced their path before Cox pinned his opponent under the superior weight. The wounded man shook from exertion, pressing his thick boned hand to Kurt's neck and digging the barrel of the gun into his cheek. "You should have…" Ragged breathing stealing his words. Eye to eye now with the man beneath him. Intimate, like an executioner and his victim. "..done what I said….idiot."

Sam was running up the stairs but slowed down on an entry, first peeking in then slipping through the half open door. He could see the younger guy with a gun sneaking towards the spot where the woman was hiding. The same woman that entered the church not too long ago. Right before the gunfire. Was it Sam's fault? That there was now blood by the altar… Should have he stopped that woman? Where was Harry? Was Jordan hurt? Oh Lord, was it all Sam's fault...

"You, right there! Don't move!" He yelled when aiming at the female with the shotgun, proximity granted she wouldn't come unscratched. But he really didn't want to pull the trigger…

Chaos. It was the only word Tyler's brain could summon to describe the scene before him. Bodies moved in different directions and he chose to focus on his leader tumbling with an other across the floor. Merely watching them almost seemed to slow their actions, but time still seemed to pass so quickly, because the seconds blurred together and suddenly the Other gained the upper hand, his gun pressed into Kurt's cheek.

Move. Tyler's limbs reacted to the internal command: feet carried him a single pace forward and his trembling hands held his gun in front of him, the safety disengaged. "I'll shoot!" The pounding in his ears nearly drowned out his voice. Even still he could hear the terror that filled it.

He didn't want to shoot. Oh god he didn't want to.

But he saw the Other's gun arc in his direction and something inside him took over. He pulled the trigger.

He didn't really know if the bullet hit. Vaguely he was aware of Kurt reacting. What registered most of all was the sharp pain in his gut. His head swiveled to the source. A crimson blossom stained his hoodie.

He had stepped out of cover. Everyone knew to stay in cover.

His legs wobbled as he tried to return to the doorway he came from and he fell to the floor. He scrambled behind the wall.

Nari Mochizuki

Nari persisted through the task, sending the end of the pick through the links of the chain fence into the skull of the dead with sickening noise. As much as she wanted to stop, wanted to give in and let Xander take over the task she resisted. It also didn’t stop her from occasionally gagging and coughing and turning away from the sight of it until she could compose herself enough to return to finish.

It felt like it took an eternity, like there was an endless stream of shambling bodies groaning and reaching for them through the fence only to jerk and convulse as the electricity burned through them. When the final fell as Xander dispatched them. She sighed in relief and immediately turned to shut off the power, dropping the pick back into its home next to the linked batteries.

She tucked the tarp back over them to protect them from the rain and double checked the lines to the solar panel that kept them charged. Everything looked to be in order for the next use but she made a note to come back out later to test the battery strength; she knew she would need to rotate them soon.

Nari followed Xander back into the building, waiting for him to secure the door behind them. The moment he turned to face her she burst into tears, stepping towards him to bury her face on his chest. She hated killing the dead, she hated that it was necessary, she hated how she felt about it and that she felt like she needed to - not just for her own survival but also because of the new additions to their small group.

Before she hadn’t needed to do these tasks, Xander or someone else would do them letting her live in her quiet and peaceful fantasy that none of this had ever happened. With the new people, some that particularly did not like herself and Xander and their way of doing things, she felt compelled to be seen as useful.

Xander was more exhausted than he cared to admit as he dispatched the ghouls alongside Nari, having fallen into an almost mindless rhythm. Once they were finished, glanced down at his knife -- coated in a thick layer of dark red-black grime -- doing his best to clean it before sliding it into its scabbard. When he glanced back up, he saw Nari tending to the batteries, deactivating the lethal electric barrier between them and the dead. He gave her a nod, peeling off the rubber gloves before setting them on the crate nearby for future use.

They headed inside, Zane securing the doors behind them with the crossbar and chains -- finally managing to get control of his breathing (though his muscles still ached something fierce and he knew he'd be paying for the exertion of this day for some time to come). As soon as he turned, he was shocked to see Nari in tears, approaching him to press her head against his chest. His heart twisted as he felt her tears soaking through his shirt and he didn't hesitate in lifting his arms to wrap them around her protectively, leaning down to rest his chin atop her head. "Shh, it's all right," Xander murmured. "You're okay."

He hated the fact that not only had Nari had gone out to "deal with" the zombies, but that she had felt it necessary to be in that position in the first place. He knew she was always trying to prove her worth to the colony, despite the mental and emotional strife it caused her to put even one of the dead down -- much less a dozen at a time. Even the air rifle project had been a source of initial conflict for her despite the fact that she wouldn't be the one employing the weapons (in theory). If Xander had his way, Nari would be able to stay safe, protected, and have her beliefs honored... but that wasn't the world they lived in. He would keep her safe (even from herself) when and where he could, but her skills and her contributions were too valuable to ignore in the meantime.

Kurt struggled with the larger man, the two fighting for control of the situation. He'd banked on the fact that the other was shot and injured, to be the reason he'd come out on top. Eventually he ended up with his back on the ground and a hand around his throat, this combined with the barrel of the gun was pressed his cheek, Kurt realized he'd been wrong. Kurt glared angrily up at the other man, his attempts to resist waning simply due to not wanting to give Cox a reason to shoot immediately. "Go tov hvell!" He slushed out, impeded by the pressure on his throat and cheek.

"I'll shoot!"

Kurt heard Tyler's voice, eyes turning to look in the direction it came from while his face was held in it's position. He wanted to tell the kid to shoot, that their lives might depend on it, and that apologize later. The movement drew him back to Harry in front of him, the sudden lack of a muzzle against his face. Kurt's right hand searched the nearby area frantically for something solid to use, watching as Cox aimed at the kid. Just as his hand closed over something wooden, the shots rang out. And with what force he could muster from the position, Kurt swung the wooden object to his left to collide with Cox's head. There was nearly instant relief that allowed him to breathe easily, as the other man slumped over half on top of him.

Kurt had seen Tyler fall out of his peripheral's, and didn't waste time in shoving the other man off. Kurt gave a momentary hoarse cough as he stood and rushed over to where Tyler had been, the teenagers leg partially in view as he rounded the corner. Tyler was sat, pressing against his abdomen, in what Kurt suspected might be shock. "Yeah, keep pressure on it!" Kurt said in a frantic moment as he crouched down, trying not to panic and scare Tyler anymore than he possibly was. Instinctively using his own hand to help apply more pressure while also making sure Tyler was pressing hard enough. It was the gist of what he knew what to do in this situation, but there was no way to know how bad it was. Still, Tyler was conscious so that was a good sign right? "Amara!" Kurt yelled, turning his head to look towards the stairs. "Get down here!" The yell caused Kurt to cough again, briefly he glanced back towards the main room to gauge what was going on.

People were milling about, some he didn't even recognize immediately. But none seemed interested in shooting each other, he saw that Sandra had been disarmed and that Howie had gotten back up, now standing over the unconscious Cox whilst the youngest of their group was checking on him. Without immediate danger he turned his attention back to Tyler. "Hey, you're gonna be fine. Got it?" That wasn't something he could promise and Kurt knew that too well, still he tried to believe his own words.

Nari Mochizuki

Nari wanted to pull away the second Xander started to comfort her; she knew she should have. He was already taking on everything else their group threw at him the last thing he needed was yet another problem was felt the need to solve. Yet she didn't pull away. She lingered in his strong arms, breathing calming and her thoughts clearing enough that she could feel thoroughly embarrassed for acting the way she did. She sniffed and leaned back, letting him release her, reaching up to wipe the stray tears from her cheeks and noting that she had wetted the front of his shirt with her childish theatrics.

"Thanks ... and sorry. You don't need this." She said quietly, cautious about anyone over listening to their conversation. The halls here were once a sanctuary but now she knew she couldn't trust everyone within them. "I - I have some work to do on the water purifiers on the roof, but then I'll get back to refitting the fence line and draw up plans to power the whole thing." She shook her head at the idea of having to go back out and do that task again. "I think I have some plans for a few traps to keep them off the fence too, I've just been procrastinating on those."

Nari didn't meet his gaze as she spoke, eyes focused on his shirt, more specifically the tears she'd left behind. "But thank you... Again for helping me out there."

Carson Pierce

His heart leaped despite the calm facade as they navigated through the back of the compound and out into the streets. His hand was sticky and wet against the pistol grip that he now held half lowered when walking behind the other.

Safe? It's been a while since Carson felt truly safe… Nowhere was secure enough these days. Did he make it that obvious that he was alone? Just with another person. Who Carson didn't really consider a friend.

"Just keep walking," he said, feeling a lump in his throat. The other's attempts didn't help to ease Carson's mind. Maybe he made a mistake. Maybe he should have tried to bring the injured man to that community in the first place. What if he didn't make it, died alone with not a soul to witness his pain. Carson didn't know him very well but well enough to recognize he was a good man and didn't deserve such fate.

"Stop." He finally said after a long time of silence. Keeping the undead in the corner of his eye to make sure they didn't spot them he moved over to face the man. He kept some distance and the muzzle aimed down around man's knees. "I don't trust you." His eyes appeared coal dark in the shade of his hood, and so honest. Like a puppy dog gazing at a human. "And I'm sure my actions didn't earn your trust either. So just stop." His throat bobbed before he glanced at the few shamblers that just now seemed to notice the two, wobbling over. "You're free now." His gaze back on the man. "They won't follow you." Then it dipped lower, down the exposed body to briefly look at Dustin's feet. "But I'd hurry if I were you."
