"Growf!"
In the end it wasn’t really war, global warming, resource depletion, or cataclysmic events that got the better of us. Oh those happened too, just not as bad as they might have been. It was a pandemic, or rather a number of them all at once. Some think they might even have been the result of war.
Does it really matter? Here we are, the last of us.
The Earth that Was lasted until the mid 21st century. It is the year 2084. Today mankind can be classified into three groups.
Wildlings - remnants of human society, often nomadic. Usually illiterate, ruled by strength. Savage.
Survivalist - mostly the descendants of bunker survivors. Literacy is common, but of the homeschooling sort. Often parents died off before education was completed. But some have better technology in caches. Most of these survivors are destined for inbreeding unless they bring in new blood or join an Enclave.
Enclaves - These are small communities that have sprung up similar to those toward the end of Walking Dead. They have a strong Us/Them attitude. But every now and then they will attempt to open trade with other enclaves. Strangers are usually distrusted.
Technology
By the end, progress was made in solid state batteries that made electric cars more practical. But the knowledge of how to make them is lost. There are historical mentions of breakthroughs in solar and an understanding of gravity that might have led to interstellar travel, but those may have about as much truth as cold fusion.
Characters
I am planning to run a lone male survivalist. I am looking for someone to run a female enclave member.
They will learn of one another from a distance. A small scouting party from the Enclave came under attack by Wildlings. The survivalist witnesses the event. The scouts are surrounded and outnumbered. But the Survivalist intervened with a high powered rifle. After the Wildlings give up and flee, he rides off on an electric motorcycle. There is no way to catch him. But every now and then he is spotted following them back home.
I also welcome NPC's. Other members of the Enclave will be needed.
His one act is enough to start a discussion back at the Enclave about attempting to make contact with him. The debate is that he might be hostile and scouting the Enclave as a prelude to attack. The argument for contact is that he could have just let the Wildlings win or weaken the Enclave. Or he could have waited and finished off whoever was left.
