The Land
Myvernia is the kingdom of men and spans across most of the mainland's regions, seemingly being in a state of prosperity and peace for the past century. Allowing human civilization to no longer constantly fight for their lives and wellbeing but rather dedicate more time to the study of the arcane, medicine and the high arts. Most of Myvernia's land has thus been covered in vast human cities with the southern ocean access being home to some of the greatest trading hubs and the academy of scholars and magi.
The middle land is cultivated by prosperous farms where golden fields of wheat span across the horizon while the east and west are lined with lush forests that serve as great hunting grounds.
The northern border is where Myvernia lies in constant conflict with the northern realms.
Lands that have yet to be named and explored, being host to primal human tribes that do not seem to value prosperity and progress like the mainland's population but rather live a barbaric lifestyle of hunting and infighting within those nomadic tribes.
The lands to the north are mostly infertile, covered with thorny, dense forests and untamed nature, filled with creatures unknown to southerners.
Deep in the heart of the north countless ruins of a bygone empire lie, forming the only city-like structures in these frontier lands. Inhabited by the strongest war bands or even more wicked creatures.
Nobody has seen what truly lies beyond that, rumors of an ancient citadel of evil being talked of in hushed whispers.
The people
Humans make up most of Myvernia's population, forming smaller government-like structures that divide the land into smaller kingdoms that govern themselves, with the second smaller unit being the various guilds.Ranging from simple artisan guilds to the various scholar and mage guilds, ranger regiments and even some mercenary and knightly guilds that make up the backbone of Myvernia's military.
There are other races beyond humans inhabiting Myvernia, remnants of ancient fae folk that were the ancestors of these now mortal races.
They share characteristics with their ancestors but lack their mystic nature, usually of similar appearance to humans with added quirks that point to their heritage.
The northern realms' inhabitants are not known to many people, with human savages being the only confirmed race to inhabit the harsh northern lands.
But there are tall tales of other creatures, beings of pure ice, beings of malice, beings of ancient blood that has not been diluted by human society and comfort.
The Threat
Prophecies foretold the Harvester of Sorrow's coming. A malevolent entity of unknown origin that would conjure a wave of destruction and pain to wash over all the known word, to plant seeds of sorrow and to reap the rewards of its conquest. Destruction and torment that would feed its never-ending hunger only for it to hibernate once again.
And repeat this cycle of endless setback for progress and prosperity.
To put an end to the threat is to finally allow mortal life to breathe easy and flourish, pushing its limit and finally overcoming this vicious cycle.
